  3. Prince David opens his mouth, but closes it swiftly upon seeing that the Warrior Priest will speak. "These Nords attacked two servants of Ennoc. The Lord of Light provided for his servants. I was able to defend us." The heroes look around. There is a shocking amount of bodies, but only two belong to Red Lizard soldiers - the rest are Nords. It appears that the Warrior Priest is able to handle himself in combat. "Where were you, heroes, at the time of the attack? Nerwen? Did you not hear the Lord of Light call out to you?" "Looks like you were able to handle yourself, he he. Maybe he told her to piss off and then forgot to strike down the foe." Heweyrt shoots Gocklo a dirty look and shakes his head.

King Speros bows to Cheif Byrne, and then bows to the heroes before stalking off through the smoldering city. Iorek starts to gnaw on the arm of one of the fallen Nords. Chief Byrne growls at him before turning to the heroes. The polar bear stops. "You have my respect, heroes. I told you, yesterday, upon your arrival, that I would not respect those who did not fight for their ideals. You have fought a good fight, and you slaughtered my men. I fought for what I thought was right, and you fought for what you thought was right. I will be true to my word when I say I will not attack the bridge. But I demand that you remain true to your word as well. We have been asked to respect the bridge. You must defend it. If Grishnod will not be our honor, the bridge will be. King Speros is a man we respect. The bridge is his pride, and so it is ours." The Chief turns to Tesni. "Daughter of the North. You have proven yourself honorable during your time here. We trust that you will do what is right. You understand our ways. Do not be swayed from your honor. You heroes now speak for our honor as well. You have bested us. You must not be defeated." Heweyrt clears our throat. "Yeah, yeah, we get it. Honor and all that. We'll hold it dearly." Heweyrt laughs, but his expression softens slightly. "Really. Thank you. We must go speak to Prince David." "Off with you, then. We will burn our dead here - Nords and High Kingdom soldiers alike. It is our funeral. They have earned it." Heweyrt nods and leads the heroes towards the Temple of Ennoc. The doors hang off their hinges and are seared. Inside are scattered dead bodies. The heroes approach two figures, who raise their blades, then lower them again upon seeing who it is. "Heroes," says the Warrior Priest coldly. There is dead silence. What will the heroes say?

  6. Sometimes it is too late in the quest. I've actually never booted a player, but I did in the previous battle threaten to not give them experience, and that seemed to work well, actually. It is certainly the "warning" method I will use from now on! And, of course, I understand life getting in the way - if a player gives control of a character to the PL with an explanation, that should never be penalized!

  8. I guess that's true - I've tried to create some cool drops for the advanced classes now that we're starting to see them, but there aren't that many of them yet in all honesty. I think we have two necromancers, one beast warrior, and one regulator, but that's it. I'd love to see how some of the other ones work out, and who goes down those roads. There are some cool necromancer and minstrel stuff out there, but not much else yet. Maybe if we gave some canoneer/chi monk perks, we'd see more of them!

At first there appears that there is not much to say. The chief glances at the heroes, and then back to the King. There is fire in his eyes, but no bloodlust. "I know why this happened," begins King Speros. "We are aware that an Orc has been freed from your prisons. But we had no hand in it. He is being transported now, as we speak, to be exchanged for King Valentino. The heroes allowed him to pass. General Mint died attempting to return him to you. And you have razed Carn as punishment to the Red Lizard." King Speros looks Byrne in the eye. "I request that this is the end of the blood shed. Your men have fought valiantly and slain many. They have regained whatever honor was lost. Let that be the end of it." Chief Byrne snorts. He looks out at the bodies - Nords and soldiers lying in blood. "I trust your word," growls the Chief. "But what about the young prince?" "Even if it were him, hasn't he paid the price?" "Grishnod was a spoil of war. The boy asked me to free him in exchange for his father. I told him I would not. But today, he and his heroes have bested me." The Chief looks at the heroes. "You have won a spoil of war. This is the price." The Chief gestures to the bodies. "You may keep your reward." "Then the peace between us is restored?" "It is. The Fire Nords are not foolish, and dying in this square fighting a man who has not wronged us would be a foolish act. You have our word, King Speros, that as long as you honor our treaty, we will honor it as well. But we will not deal with the young prince. He was fuel to our flame.   18. I had a lot of worries with this quest, but I was over-all very happy with how it turned out, so I'm glad to hear you had a good time too! I felt a hit a bit of rut with 68 and 72, and I've been very happy with 84, 88, and 92, so it feels good to be back on a track I'm happy with as a QM. So, before I address anything that's been said, I'll offer some of my thoughts. I wanted to do a kind of happy quest. We have so many dark quests. Which I'm sure everyone knows I love, but I wanted to show some good in the world of Eubric too. Ella is far from an innocent character, but she is optimistic, and so is Tarn, so I thought a quest featuring the both of them that somewhat validated their opinion would be a lot of fun. There's evil in the world, but also certainly good. I took lots of steps to try to display this: -I tried to paint as many houses as possible in a good light, though not be unrealistic. The Hinckwells get a lot of hate, so I gave them paying a debt, something I'm sure an honorable family like their's would do. We've seen their pride be bad, I wanted to paint it as good. Grady was still a snob about it, to even things out. Doc Daneeka is a Guffington employee, but I like to use him as my stand-in for the Ji Pei. So he too was willing to go experiment, something I imagine the Ji Pei would be interested in. Captain Lane was a stoic man of the sea - bad when he didn't trust Daneeka and bad when he called to the opposing ship, but he was kind and knew how to keep his head as only a Captain would. I actually had a huge debate about him going down with the ship. I didn't even think about while writing the outline - it was I was writing the heroes fleeing I was like "oh Sh*t, he'd probably go down with the ship" but it seemed unnecessary. I don't know what the ruling is for old ships when you successfully get everyone off board. It's the only sort of not honest character moment I felt, but it was not needed that he drown either. -The quest itself was really just what Ella presented it as. It was for fairytales. That alone, I think, is a lighter quest than many. History is important and dark, but sometimes it is wonderful too, and I thought it'd be nice if the heroes grabbed a piece of beautiful history. -Finally, I tried to make the enemies kind of fun or justified. The street thugs were an easy battle, but then the Order Imperial were pretty noble in my eyes. I'll discuss the final fight in just a tiny bit. The Order Imperial was originally going to be Crimson Crown (to tie in with Tarn's first quest), but they've gotten a lot of love recently. Just real quick, before I forget - I'm glad that you both had fun, Flipz and Pala. I marketed this as a Tarn quest, but I was careful to give you stuff to do as well. Hopefully you both knew what you were getting yourselves into, but also hopefully you felt you had moments to shine. I had a lot of fun playing with both of you, but I'll save that for another day. Two things I was very careful about/worried about: -The Final Battle: The enemies kind of came out of no where and weren't explained. It's a similar ending to 72, which I (fairly) received criticism for. BUT, in this case, I felt safe because a) the other two encounters were also "random" and therefore didn't lead to a destination that wasn't delivered upon and b) this quest was focused on Ella, so her journey was the story we were focusing on, and her conclusion was fitting. But yes, the ship and its occupants will be focused on in further quests, and I'm sorry for the random encounter boss fight, but hopefully it wasn't too distracting and the pay off down the road will be worth it. Besides, a particularly attention Zepher-quest-fan can probably figure out who those enemies were - this is not their first appearance. -Tarn and Ella: Rumble, you said that Ella and Tarn rode off into the sunset, which is true in the long run, but I was careful to not make the story too lovey-dovey. Ella is smart and practical and independent - I believe she loves Tarn, but this is only their second encounter. I was very careful to never have her ever say that she loved him or even was attracted to him. Right now, he holds her most affection, and I think she wants to see where it leads them, but I don't know if she'd be willing to admit she's in love because I think she knows love has to be tested a little first. It was a step forward for them, but I wanted to be careful and not have it be an impractically huge step forward. Now, on your thoughts: I'm glad you were happy with the ending! I am genuinely honored you allowed me to QM your final quest. I hate writing too much text for the game - I fear no one will read huge chunks - so I'm glad you liked the book passages. I tried to keep them short but still with a punch.I'm glad you liked Lane - I like him too, and he'll be back (he has a cameo in 84 as well). That's a good suggestion for the ship battle! Thanks for letting me test it on you. And as I said, - I think more "small" quests will make the world happier, though I do have epics in the works once more! I am also working on shorter and easier battles - heavy hitting low-health opponents. More jeopardy, less time. Glad you liked them! I will work harder on it! But the Golden Automaton simply couldn't be swayed in any way shape or form. I usually allow some things to work out (like Hoke asking for help in 88 right now is because of a job trait) but some enemies simply can't be swayed. Hestia Bonaparte, they said, had once graced the Hall before going her way, and even the Oracle of Eubric had once been a hero, some said. Tarn was leaving the city, but he would be, always, a hero.
