  1. I've got a lot to learn.
  2. OoC: I will run the round later tonight (~6 hours), to allow time for restructuring of plans if need be with my responses: I believe it would be most fair to consider the SP value BEFORE the reinforcement. Apologies, I can see how that would be unclear. Sneezy will attack the hero once and the hero next in the battle order once. It will not affect Special Damage, but will affect Free Hits.
  3. Awesome! Transit is done, so I will get to work transferring over the NPC index, and I'm back in the saddle for 102!
  4. Sandy doesn't do those after his quests. Every QM is different!
  5. I don't have as much of a dissertation as the others. I liked 93 well enough, and some of the issues above I shared with it, and some I didn't, but I wasn't on it so their perspective counts more than mine (especially as far as battles go). I thought it dragged a bit, sure, but at least there were 13 battles, so even with the drag you still got loot and experience, which isn't always the case with a dragging quest. I think that, like the others said, this could have just used a little revision. I used to not revise quests very much, but now I do - cut this part, add this part, etc. I'm not suggesting you didn't do this, obviously I have no way of knowing, but it looks like it could have used a bit more. The characters were, as always, beautiful looking. I felt that a few of them were nice and complex, but mostly they boiled down to quirks (Noel is angst-ridden, Sorsha is loud, Carrot is from a bad part of town, etc.) It's a question of how you view characters, though, and I think we view them slightly differently. I think you like to build more archetypal mythic characters, which is awesome in its own way! And most of the time I think you strike a good balance of subverting the archetype enough that they become a CHARACTER instead of a MYTH, while still letting us see the golden knight. In the age of the complex anti-hero, it's actually cool to see some classic "good guy" and "bad guy" archetypes. The only issue this round was that there were SO MANY we didn't get to dig. We didn't always get to the subversion, and the quirk wasn't fleshed out enough to feel mythic, just to feel weak (sometimes, not always). That being said, I loved Drucuilla (and Heckz's interaction with her). I really liked Hawkes too, it really was a shame when he died. I liked Sorsha, and I don't think it's only because of Kinto's work (though it helped). Noel was decent if relegated to the back near the end of the quest. Syrio was an awesome design and seemed so so cool, I wanted him to talk more. The two characters I felt the most issue with, actually, are Nuitan and Lyren. I don't really know what this quest progressed for them. We've had three or four quests focused on them, and the only thing we've really established is that they care deeply about each other. That's cool... but that's just one thing that's already established. They are, unlike a lot of your other characters, not as archetypal, but they also lack the complexity that should substitute for that. We know Nuitan is snivels and is smart, Lyren a rascal. So, what else? I am a big believer in actions speaking louder than words, and they haven't really done anything yet. This quest could have (with it's six months) shown us how they act in a myriad of situations (how does a peers death REALLY affect them - maybe one of them liked a peer, and one of them hated him, and theres some conflict, or maybe they both hated him and their hatred, though grotesque to the viewer, draws them together, or maybe they have an argument about their families, or maybe they don't want to go back to Eubric and are willing to risk the void to be together, or maybe only one of them is). My point is, they don't get to do much, and the structure of this quest made it imperative that the heroes send them back immediately upon discovering them, stealing away the chance for them to do anything. That goes for ALL the characters. I wish they had taken more ACTION. I wish they'd been more ACTIVE. BUT, it is extremely tough with that many characters, and I recognize that. You built yourself into a corner once, but it caused more than one problem - the crime did not fit the punishment. The battles seemed cool. Obviously the two impossible ones weren't alright, but all the others were cool. I liked the darkness battle and the knight battle and the enemies buffing each other was cool if not properly thought out there. Another note on the players: Cutcobra, Heckz was a huge reason for me to continue to follow the quest. Do be careful about spot light stealing, but not too much more careful, I thought you did a wonderful job. Karie and Sorrow - THESE are the characters who bothered me this quest. I like both of them normally, and Kinto actually seemed aware of their folly, and tried to refrain (sorry, not the pick on you Endgame) but dear god I would have punched them. Sorrow is dying, we get that. But I heard about it so so so much. And are Karie and Masson getting married?! Because boy did we hear about that a lot too. It seems even worse when we know Endgame plays Masson - it's bringing one of his plot points into a quest it has no business being in, and then pushing it over and over again. I'd imagine that's why some of the NPCs and PCs were quiet... what does it have to do with them, or with the school? Did we ever see anyone else respond to this plot point? I doubt it. I don't mean don't mention it, but it was just too much, too often. I still love Kinto and Endgame, and the characters as well, but it was overwhelming. Overall, I enjoyed following it, but echo a lot of the things about characters and pacing. But we're all learning, Sandy! Speaking of least enjoyable experiences so far in Heroica, I don't know if I'm supposed to review 96 yet or not... EDIT: Also, I've argued loudly against rebalancing battles mid-battle in the past. The Saga move has already been talked about - I think it was extremely extremely unfair. However, rebalancing an impossible battle makes me eat my words - that was (obviously) the right move, so bravo! Also, that final battle was a-okay in my book. Heroes whine a lot. Sometimes you should listen. Sometimes you should say "stuff it" and keep doing things you know you are doing right.
  6. Well, with a wiki, we'd transfer things over there. I've already spoken to the troubles of the NPC index. It's just too ungainly, and I've tried reorganizing it a few times. I can't figure out a way to make it easy to surf/edit while still fitting everyone in. A wiki would be easy - the names could be alphabetized, but it would a) not crash the server b) be extremely easy to update and c) anyone could update it.
  7. The benefit of a Wiki would be that we could ALL update it! I don't know how to start one, but I do know how to update one, so if someone would want to take that first step, I am leaving for vacation today, so will have some extra time to burn!
  8. I also think a wiki would be incredibly useful, but Sandy has stated that he wants everything on one site (that site being Eurobricks, considering this is a game based on that). The NPC index would be infinitely easier to update with a Wiki as well, but I understand why Sandy has taken the stance he has.
  9. Boomingham ambles forward to see what his friends were talking about. He scans the quest board, but before he can even get to 107 his eyes stop and glower at 105. He signs up before quietly returning to his seat and ordering another drink. He glances over at two others at the bar - the undead Sorrow and his old ally Em. He had been avoiding talking to Em... but it seems the time has come. "Em," rings out Boomingham's voice. "Almost didn't see you there. How are things in great big Olegia? And what about with you, Sorrow?"
  10. "Well screw you too," grumbles Bors. Justin cries out wildly before hiding behind the counter. "Guards! Guards!" Bors grabs a few bottles off the counter and throws them to Sneezy. 11. Sorry 102ers, I'm pooped. I hate responding in the Hall and not updating for you guys - bad form, I know - but its 3 AM here. When I wake up tomorrow you're my first priority, promise!
  12. "Yes," says Boomingham definitively. "And different kind of Masson. More sinister, uglier too." Boomingham, having made his crack at Masson, sips on his drink, but coughs most of it back out at Ellaria's statement. The reason is unknown: laughing? shock? something else? "I wouldn't mind a princess right about now," commiserates Boomingham. Hybros, apparently off to bigger and badder things, gets up with a tip of the hat. Boomingham salutes, but realizes once the imp is gone that he is back with his Strivvian quest mates. He clears his throat. It seems Ellaria and Atramor are alright with how things ended, or at least willing to make an attempt to cheer up. Boomingham keeps his eyes on the bar.
  13. "Sounds infinitely better than what we've been through, if only because it sounds like you got something done. Can't even remember the last time I got something worth doing done - killing Steerpike, I guess. Been a year and half since then… or maybe its two years." Boomingham squashes himself further down onto his chair uncomfortably. "After that it's just been errands and failures. Masson, Strivvi… I guess we helped R'Klif some, at least."
  14. Sorry 102! I am starting my vacation a day early with a day in the city and a concert (Flume, so anyone who is in to that sort of thing can be jealous, I guess?). Anyway, I should hopefully have time to update tomorrow before I disappear into the lovely world of planes trains and automobiles, but if not, thank you for your patience.
  15. OoC: Apologies for the poor writing. I've been pretty spent, recently. I'm very excited for vacation - it turns out part time jobs unexpectedly turned full time jobs and I do not agree. The ranger's quip sparks a snort of amusement from the pig, and a indiscernible glance from Russel. Samuel and Midge both accept the weapons. "This is one Hel of an axe," rumbles Midge severely, testing it out a few times. "Very good for cutting up Orcs." Bors narrows his eyes at Midge, but then shakes his head, dismissing whatever vulgar thought he had in favor of a retreat. "How do these heroes know you?!" whimpers the dwarf. "You told me we'd just be making some quick money flipping that artifact." "I said stuff it, Sneezy. These heroes and me know each other because we're both tangled up in the same mess. Never deal with wizards. Should have stuck to that. One bribes you one way, one bribes you the other, they both play with your mind." Bors spits. "Quit passing around weapons." "What mess?!" "Shut it, Sneezy." Another appreciative snort from Pigley. "What happened to the morality of heroes, huh?" sneers XX. "Bors had just as much a hand in Aventine's kidnapping as the Werewolf or the Nord. But he gets to go free?" "But I told you. Chauncey and me, we don't get along now." "Yeah, after you took someone hostage, sure." "Listen, I don't have to prove jack to you. Fine, I'm not good, but neither are you. What makes Aventine better than Chauncey? They're both stuck up pricks." "What about this artifact you're trying to flip," accuses Samuel. "That does not sound righteous to me. Where did you get it from." "Hey, that's no fair, someone gave it to me." "A transparent lie." Samuel turns to Nerwen. "Are we to let this villain go? Surely he has committed many crimes. He reeks of evil."
  16. "Stay safe out there!" hollers Boomingham with a smile and a wave. He is already feeling a little better. "Aye, and that time we had to deal with wacky inventors and the Vibrataphone," Boomingham says with a smile. "Believe it or not, Atramor and I have only been on one adventure since then." But then, suddenly, Boomingham grows silent, and watches his fellow quest mate to see how he behaves. He clears his throat. "What of you, Hybros? How many errands have you run since we left - seems errands are the only sort of quests I ever get around to finishing."
  17. That was a nice chunk of text in the Marketplace, Flipz. Not too long, only ruminating on a few things, but still great character work. A heads up to all: I will be on vacation from this Friday to next Sunday. I have been assured there will be wi-fi, but as everyone knows, we can't always be certain about those things. BUT what will most likely happen is that I will be MIA Friday/Saturday for transit purposes. So, just a heads up.
  18. "Went as well as it could. We pick up a Phoenix Essence we owe Lady Nerwen." Sameul goes over to the bar and buys Nerwen an Ambrosia, that she swiftly downs. He makes his way towards the door, but is stopped when Alexis runs into someone she recognizes on the rickety staircase. Against all odds, walking down the stairs, is Strong-Chested Bors. He sneers at Alexis when he sees her shock... but then he has his own recognition, and glances around the room, his eyes narrowed and fierce. "What's going on?!" cries the dwarf with him. "Heroes," growls Bors. "But you said we wouldn't be running into any of them! I'm just here to make some quick gold, damn it, Bors! I knew I shouldn't have trusted you after Grumpy never came back!" "Stuff it, Sneezey." Bors glowers at the heroes. "Look, Chauncey and I are done. We've got no quarrel, alright? I don't know where the Hel he's taking Aventine. He doesn't tell me jack, and he doesn't let me loot at all, so I took what I could and left. I'm just gonna make a quick bit of gold in town, and be out of your hair. He's heading towards R'Klif, by the way. There, some information for you. So, let's go our different ways amicably." He stumbles over the last word, and even as he says it, he waves his sword around. Sensing some danger, Samuel wanders back to Nerwen's side, and Midge whips a dagger out from some unseen pocket. 19. Boomingham beams at one of his friends stepping out from the crowd to greet him. "I feel like you could say that about me more often than not," he sighs. "How are you, Hoke? Off to the next big adventure already, I suppose. It seems you and I never end up on a quest together. A damn shame. Could use a righteous sword like yours." Boomingham sips at his drink.
  20. Boomingham drags himself into the Hall. He looks worse for wear than in a long time. Bags under his eyes, his swords strapped carefully to his side (but his cloths are rumpled). Barty flickers in and out of existence next to him. He takes in the Hall, unsure entirely of when he last saw it. He knows it was some time ago, in colder months - traipsing around the city with that Ji Pei device was the last time he was in Eubric, his memory serving. He sighs. There was snow on the ground then, and it is impossibly hot and muggy now. Which means, of course, he is another year older as well. He makes a mental note - 47 years old. Not old, but not young. He shakes his head. A sweep of the Hall reveals that things are much the same. He spies his small friend Hybros at the bar and starts to lumber towards him, a grin plastered on his face, before he spots his companion - the boy wizard Arthur. Boomingham growls gutturally. There is only so much of the boy he can stomach - and though he has been away for a long time, and though the boy proved himself in R'Klif... the memory of Masson was too much - a reminder of a past failure coming too fast at the heels of a recent one. Boomingham pivots, searching for someone else to pass the time with, catch up with. Atramor sits at the bar opposite a horrifying creature. Another boy. And what would the two have to discuss? Unpleasant memories only, no doubt. Boomingham reels again, and spies the quiet Em, eyes glazed over, sitting in a chair in a corner. Another enigma from that some failure - a man he had trusted, a man who had betrayed him in a moment of truth. Boomingham stares at him wordlessly. He exhales. This is not the time for him either. Behind the bar, far from Atramor and his monstrosity, stands an old Orcish woman. She is the first foe Boomingham made in Heroica, and that somehow is what makes him feel most at home. He waddles confidently towards her. "A Flaming Gumball for this old goat," he sneers at her, his eyes tired, red, and moist. She sets about her business quietly, returning the sneer.
  21. Hey all! I'm happy to announce that my next quest pitch, going up (hopefully, if Sandy is pleased with it ) in a day or two will be a Hybros Quest, just like 92 served as a Tarn Quest. I think it's gonna be a fun one, and will be short and sweet in the same way (though maybe more lore packed). Just wanted to give a heads up, like I did for the Tarn one, so that no one is surprised with what they get into. If you want to go on the Hybros Quest but are afraid that you will be pushed to the side, ask Flipz or Pala what it was like, I'm sure they'll be honest with you (and hopefully me if there are things I need to improve!).
  22. "Justin! A brandy for my lady friend here!" Keith drops some gold on the counter. "Sam is right, as always, however, and I think you'll have to drink that with only your fellow heroes for company. I've got to hit the old dusty trail." "Don't have to tell me twice." Matthias shuffles over to a table. He does not see any other patrons, save the ones the party has already engaged in conversation. The only entrances/exits are the stairs, leading upwards to the rooms for the night no doubt, and the front door. "Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore Keith. I couldn't do a thing I do without him." She beams. "But really, we must be going." Sam and Keith stand up, wave a thank you to the heroes, and walk out the door into the night. Only seconds later, Pigley and Russel walk in. They glance around, unsure who to go sit near. "Prince David. My brother in the light - nurtured by the same man. Perhaps one day I will find him." Samuel smiles. "You have been most gracious, Lady Calmcacil. I do not doubt it was difficult for you to recall the death of such a noble man, such a warrior of the light. But you have given me some names. Tra-Serral. Prince David." He rises. "I have other matters to attend to shortly. I myself have never been one to drink, but if you are, I would like to buy you something as a thank you. Even a meal of some sort. You have been generous with your time."
  23. This looks like an awesome set, Masked! Thanks for the detailed review! Those pictures make the LEGO look so shiny and sleek. The reddit excerpt was extremely insightful as well Faefrost. I buy only one or two sets a year for money/space conservation, but this is likely to be one of them.
  24. "Oh no, oh no," cries the poor fellow. "Two times in one day. Please don't hurt me. This isn't my bar - the were hounds who run it are *sniffle* on a vacation while it gets renovated *sniffle* wish I could go on a vacation *sniffle* and have asked me to watch it in the mean time. I can't give drinks away for less than they'd charge or they'll *sniffle* skin me when they return." Ambrosia - Causes the reinforced-effect, double the target's defense for the duration of one battle. Costs 43 gold. Flame-distilled Brandy - Causes the encouraged- and the immune to ice-effects for the duration of one battle. Costs 23 gold. Mulled Wine - Causes the inspired-effect, doubling the target's current and maximum health for the duration of one battle. Costs 48 gold. Rum - The favorite drink of any common pirate, giving it to them makes them your friend. Does not work on pirate leaders, though. Costs 7 gold. "Pick your poison!" he says open hearing Justin list the drinks. Samantha smiles charmingly, her words caustic. "I'm sure her friends can afford to buy their own drinks." "Purpearl and I are pals already! She knows she only need ask for a drink and I'll buy it for her! I am forever in her debt." "Think of us as the Heroica of Odd Jobs. We're both from the Hovels, so we do what we can to keep afloat. You'd be surprised how willing people are willing to pay to get silly little tasks done." "We sailed recently on a merchant ship, loading and unloading wares in various cities. I finally convinced Sam to quit with me - turns out I have no stomach for the ocean." "As I told Alexis, our most recent job is transporting a body for burial. He wants to be married at point A, but he died at point B, and his family is to lazy to take him there, so we got stuck with it. Which reminds me, we actually do need to get going tonight. Keith, finish your drink, buy one for Alexis, and we'll hit the road!" "He has the right to my life, yes. I have sworn it to him, and Raguel swore it to him as well. I ask only how a just god can throw away a life of a servant? If he is powerful beyond means, if he is able to bend the wills of men and orc and all mortals, why does he allow his own servants to die?" "You say that Raguel's death will bring peace, will allow children to live and join the order, or go do other production and righteous things with their lives. I do not doubt that. I do not doubt that Ennoc brought good in what he does, I only wonder why it cost what it cost. You have presented me with many positive products of Raguel's death, and I do not doubt them, m'lady, but you have yet to tell me why he had to die to achieve them. That is my question. Why must the light be extinguished for others to shine more brightly? Why could Raguel have not lived as a champion? Would there be no peace then? And why? If Ennoc can bend the wills of mortal, why then did he bend them to kill Raguel to bring peace, as opposed to using Raguel as a champion of peace?" "As for my doubly blessed..." the boy blushes, "I fear now that you will think I do not deserve the honor. In all truth I don't know what I did to garner it myself." In answer, two angels shimmer into existence for a mere second, flanking Samuel on either side. He smiles sheepishly.
  25. Keith's face plunges to crimson. He wiggles his hands around a little, not sure what to do with them. "Would the lovely lady like a drink?" he asks. "Now, Keith, don't forget your lovely wife." "Oh Sam, I'm just being polite. I bought you a drink as well, didn't it?" "Aye, though peashooter is unfortunately the accurate name for it." XX hands a small hand gun, "Peashooter". "Even though it's a piece of crap I had to make a 50 gold deposit for it. Bull. Anyway, if I don't get it back to the fellow by the end of the week he'll make me double that amount - and the issue, of course, with being Everyman's pal is that he will track me down to make sure I pay, if another one of his pals wants him to. So, either get me 100 gold by the end of the week and keep the thing, or return it to me. Now, let's say you and me celebrate this new present with our pal Midge, and see if your least favorite bar tender won't give me and you a drink. I'll buy." Peashooter (Handcannon, WP: 2, deals the burning by 2 effect on a successful hit) OoC: It would take time - if that's a risk you're willing to take, yes. So, no "nipping out" but a trip to the market would be allowed! I would just be the one timing it. Or you could go the Boomingham route and ask your quest mates for a loan. "She's too polite. I served as the discouragement as she did all the work!" "Keith couldn't hurt a fly, much less a rat! It's a pleasure to meet you, Purpearl. You'll find that in our duo, I serve as both the brains and the brawn. Keith is mostly... the encouragement." She giggles. "I do not believe that Raguel wavered from the light. I do not pretend to understand the minds and ways of the Gods. I only wonder... we are all, the Warrior Priests, prepared to give our lives for Ennoc - but shouldn't anyone willing to give their life be good enough to keep their life. You say also that we can achieve more in death, but I don't understand how. How can the death of someone doing something righteous cause peace? If the good are killed, aren't they killed by those who do evil? I do not wish to oppose you and your wisdom, only to understand." OoC: I love long speeches when they're thought out and peppered in at the appropriate times! Nerwen's a talker, you don't have to apologize for it. Play her the way she wants to be played!
