  6. OoC: Just because Kinto is QMing doesn't mean I won't be dropping by to help out a bit as well! Just think of XX, Russel and Pigley as fellow party members instead of NPCs for the time being. Ether is not returned when sleeping - though health is! XX also shambles over to the bar and orders a Flame-Distilled Brandy. He glances over to see if anyone responds to Matthias.

It is the Second of the Week. They pack up their things, and begin the long trek back to Eubric. Russel and Pigley get exhausted every once in a while, but while the party would love to speed things along, Pigley proves too heavy to carry. As the sun flies through the sky the party's stomaches begin to growl something fierce. "Man cannot live on will alone," cries Pigley. "I need some food. We forgot dinner and we forgot breakfast." And the sun is proving hot. The heroes sweat. Up ahead, in the forest, they see some smoke billowing over the trees - even in the summer, Inns don't turn off their fires, it would seem. XX looks at the others. "Look, I'm all for the heat and what not, Hel, I think I've spoken more than enough about how much I love fire and all that, but Hel's tits I need to get inside and out of this sun and get some food in my belly. You with me?" The heroes make a small detour and come across an inn...

After a brief little farce of opening doors into incorrect rooms, they do eventually find the kitchen, crawl back through the drainage pipe, past the charred remains of a snake, and make their way down to the Tavern. It is the dead of night. The place is closed up tight. XX tries knocking, but there is no response. "I guess it's a good old fashioned camp out." "We 'animals' were built for the elements, unlike the rest of you. So no skin off my back," says the pig a little too smugly. The party collects some twigs and stuff, and XX does the honor of lighting the pile with a huge explosion fueled by a spark and some gun powder he sprinkled generously among the dry wood. The heroes settle down for a nap until sunrise. "So, who else do we have to track down?" asks XX sleepily. "We had that Mopag, the pale lady with wings, Armored Reaper, Strong-Chested Bors..." he grins. "What are the chances that any of them will go peacefully, do you think? And then we've got Chauncey to deal with. Damn wizards and their damn duels. How do I always get caught up in this sh*t?" But he laughs, letting everyone know that he wouldn't have it any other way. "Ain't that the way - we come all the way here just to hear we've got someone else we gotta go visit and rough up in R'Klif. Just goes to show." "Matthias, sorry," says the crab, murmuring in his near-sleep state, "but could you... could you just remind me why we killed that snake again? It was going to attack us, right?"
  11. Boomingham laughs in the two mens faces as the second one finally speaks up. "I don't suppose you can let us in? No? Too lazy." Boomingham shrugs. "We were told to come by around noon. Macros said he needed security, as it was lacking. Don't know why, it seems to me that the security is air-tight. No one's going through those gates with Phoebus here standing guard. I already told you why you were wrong - he invited us, and you're acting like he didn't, ergo, you're wrong. Specifically, that is why you're wrong."
  12. "Should we go walk around the block until night time, then?" Boomingham asks his compatriots, bothered by the unnecessary road-bump.
  13. "What he said. We don't have any proof, but we don't really need any because he is expecting us. So, you know, just go ask him." Boomingham checks that he has all his weapons as well and then shrugs.
  14. Boomingham takes the lead, walking towards the guards. "The names Blackhood. Macros is expecting both myself and my party."

  16. I agree that it should stay with the limitation! It lets you dodge some specials, and it can be added to hastened (there's no way to be doubly lucky/encouraged) so I think it needs something to make it a little less perfect.
  17. OoC: I have changed the description of the "Smaller Axe" so that it is only usable by classes that can wield axes. Hopefully that makes sense and does not seem like an unfair addition to the item. Matthias looks around the room, and finds that it is in fact the Dining Room, evidenced by the chairs pushed to the corner and a long wide table beside them. The room has clearly not been used for a while. The stairs the women walked down actually leads, also, to the room, but a short stretch away is a door. Matthias opens it, and finds a storage closet, clearly not where the women went. He closes the door, and reopens it, and it is now a bedroom (though again one that has been abandoned for a while, with only a dusty bed and dusty nightstand). The house, it appears, can and does change its floor plan, a surprise to everyone except Alexis, who has already encountered a magical house with similar properties. Nerwen too is used to spaces that are bigger or smaller or not quite what you'd expect on the inside. The only "clue" this offers them is that they are dealing with a wizard who is not only talk. "Heroes," says Pigley after the heroes finish their sort of kind of investigation of the house. "I hate to be the one to point it out, but we are well into the night. I know you heroes can't die so easily, but exhaustion figures into Russel and my lives, and I'm sure XX is tired as well, though I doubt he'll admit it. We've fought more than one battle today, and we are tired. It will also take three days to reach R'Klif. The duel is on the Seventh of the Week, this is the First of the Week - one night will not make the difference. I am willing to continue, but I'd rather sleep - if we continue without sleeping, I am sure we will all experience exhaustion." "Russel Ruffers never tires!" proclaims the crab between yawns.

Magnar - Shield (([16*3]+17)*2*2=260, KO) Alexis regain 3 health from blessed Purpearl finally lands a blow, and a powerful one at that. Russel, perhaps inspired by her, slices up Magnar with so much power you'd have to see it to believe it (he is a crab, after all, not too well known for their damage output). The Battle is Victorious! Unlike some foes that Heroica faces, Magnar does not stick around after the fatal blows are dealt, but rather succumbs to them immediately. He offers no explanation of why the three mercenaries returned to the Mansion, or why he hates heroes so darn much. He just keels over, bloody and dead.   19. Regarding 96 - this is exactly what makes Heroica a story worth following, for me, at least. We are so far into the game already, and Skrall and Nyx have already had a discussion many times... but just seeing them sit there and talk after being split up, with new things on their minds, you know something new and fresh is going to happen. It's the web of dynamics that makes things work so beautifully, and the way that when one changes they all slightly change, and that they are always changing as the heroes continue to grow.
  20. Boomingham, having trouble falling to sleep (glancing as often as he does at the statue) rolls over and spies Skrall and Nyx talking, Nyx with a book open on her lap. He catches the name Maxis and grits his teeth. He glares sleepily at the Ogre, certain that he is the reason the party is siding with the "book smart man" who wishes to close the gates to the city and rule from the safety and distance of the palace. Noting the book on Nyx's lap again, he thinks briefly of offering her the book he is reading and also revising (scribbling notes in). The Tome of Affluence, at his side even now... it was for her, one day, her and Ellaria and Atramor, and Hybros too if the imp wanted to take a look at it, and maybe Nerwen if she was willing to read it, and Mr. Marvelo and Arnulf, if Boomingham ever found them again. Boomingham blinks a few times, and sighs, and closes his eyes, hoping to sleep.

  22. Boomingham glances at the terrifying statue. It represents the thing he has closest to a god... a set of ideals, at least. He wonders what the creature things of all this. "I'm ready for bed," says Boomingham. "We'll find the ship," he tells Ellaria as he lays down on the ground.

"I owe you, but I'm not like Zane with it, always mumbling on and on about who he owes what and why, so if I forget to repay you... well, that's that, isn't it?" XX turns to the others.
