I dunno. If a rat were to join Guts' party and then PvP began, it'd probably survive longer than if it was in the enemy force. Maybe he just also gets a bit better at fighting when someone else is controlling his actions. Besides, we can't balance the whole game around Guts. Most players could survive a blow from a fellow hero, and it's only a 1/2 chance anyway, and only if you neglect to remedy them. In 105, which is a pretty advanced party, I could survive a blow from every single one of my companions if they were to be confused.
-
They cannot. That was a cheat that people tried very early in the game. You can be undead, but will be treated the same as any other hero. Look at Sorrow.
-
Isn't that not so much cheating the system as using it cleverly?
-
I like the change to confused, Sandy! Of course, ANOTHER hero could still just remedy them, but it is a least a little bit better. I agree it needs to be more potent, and if it means that if Guts gets confused he'd KO his whole team, then he better go get immunity to confused in my opinion - I don't think we need to figure out anything about PvP. Maybe we could simplify it though and say they have a 1/2 chance to deal a normal hit of damage (WP+Lvl) to a random ally, so as to knock out any confusion with shields and what not.

Heroica RPG - Quest#123: A Present for Doc Daneeka

"Come on!" exclaims Shawe. "If you're having a drink, have a drink. Tell you what, Everyman can pay for your hot chocolate, and I'll pay for something stronger." And then, under his breath to Karl: "chances are high I'll be stuck with the whole bill anyway, and whatever else Everyman has had to drink over the last few days." Avery looks balefully at the vampire, but doesn't say anything about his dig. "Doesn't do much for your looks, huh? If'n it wasn't for that, I might have ya bite me here and now. You ain't gonna find no myrrh in a place like this, but I can fix you up nice and easy with that gin and tonic, ma amigos." -

"Yo man, I think we just gotta keep chipping away at them right now, yo. At least until one of them goes down." Bobby repeats with the same battle order. -
Yes, but I believe Vind now gets benefits from being poisoned. It's a good question, actually.

The heroes continue on their way through the Hovels until they come to... perhaps to no one's surprise at this point... a bar. "Leave your weapons at the door," grunts the Ogre, and with a nod from Everstien the heroes agree. "Welcome to Lady Luck's Locale." The place is called Lady Luck's Locale, and it's crawling with low-lifes, thieves and smugglers. Everstien navigates it deftly, not bothering to glance at any of the scum, leading the party to a table near the back. Soon the heroes are able to make out a man and woman talking in the low lighting. The man laughs. "No, no, don't you worry about it, ma cherie. You don't look a day past dead at all. Besides, who are we to judge others for looks, right? Olegaia has got all sorts of freaky looking folks scattered all around it and I think they're all beautiful but not half as beautiful as you are." She shuffles, and then notices the heroes. Her skin is a little... pale. Her eyes flicker for a second, looking as if they're about to turn to aggression, but then they return to their neutral stare. "You have guests." "Ta-da." "Howdy there, Shawe!" exclaims Johnny. "And my word, you brought friends. Is that Everstien I see? And Elba. Hola, Elba. How's it going. And a vampire! Ho-ho-ho. Don't see nearly enough of those round this city if you ask me. I've thought about being one myself, don't you know? What do you think of it?" "You megablocks! You're late." Johnny looks around. "Well crap in a hat! I've been here all night and all morning, that means. Damn place never closes! Sorry, I got wrapped up chatting with this lovely gal right here. Red Assassin, don't you know? But she survived death or something of that sort, and now she doesn't have to worry about all the silly strings attached to that red oath of theirs. Not a bad friend to have, wouldn't you say?" He gives Shawe a meaningful look. "She's just having a bit of trouble adjusting to being undead and all that. Sure you understand. Apparently it muddles some things up." "Everything feels like a never ending dream. Before my death, the present, even the future." "Yeah, see, she's full of stuff like that. Avery is her name. I don't think she can feel time much anymore either." "You had me worried. Had to have these heroes and Everstien help me track you down. I owe Elba a bottle of Charisian Wine now." "It happens! Tell you what, I feel bad. First drink is on me. For everyone. Elba, I know you could use a glass of something." He looks at the heroes. "Well, don't stand around, sit down! What would you like? I'll get it. They've got Mead, Mulled Wine, Ale, the works." "We don't have a lot of time..." "We'll stay for one drink." Elba leans over to U'Or and the heroes. "This is still the quest for my present, and I think we deserve a reward. Tell him what you'd like, heroes. And it'll be quick, U'Or. I promise. If it takes too long you can drag me out of here by my ear." U'Or sighs, but nods. -
The list of Inns and Taverns is continuing to grow on the Wiki! Everyone should go check it out, we've drank in a lot of places throughout the course of the game. EDIT: You couldn't announce your departure a few days earlier when Bobby was still in the Hall to receive a gift or two from his mentor, Flare.

Bobby grins at the arbormancer. "Yeah dude, no worries." Bobby turns to Leofwein. "I think we should give it another go, my dude. I'll take that leader bro if you want to pin down the dude with the brown beard. Hang back, yo!" Bobby attacks Crafty from the back row. Battle Order Bobby Leofwein -
Flare, sorry to see you go, hope you can come back when it's a good time for you! I really enjoy Benji and playing with you too! Sandy, looks like a good party.

"There are of course troubles in Dastan, but they either come to a head or they don't in Dastan. That is my understanding. The U'Kin were once oppressed, now they are not." He sighs. "A stronger guard would at least allow the honest people in the Hovels to have a chance. It is difficult enough to put bread on the table without worrying if it might be stolen." "Dr. Everstien is a friend of the Guffington estate. He helped to protect Guffington a year or so ago - perhaps more now - when an attempt was made on his life. I will forever be thankful to him for that. He is a crude were-raven on occasion, but he is shrewd and intelligent, and I can tell that Guffington likes him, and that is enough for me that Guffington likes him." Everstien snickers. "Honor." He shrieks. "Give this city a week or two and it will beat that out of you. The naivety." But then the were-raven's eyes soften... barely, but surely. "My father came here from Terra Chima. He sought work, and he found it. But barely. I too would be living in squalor if I had not thought to skimp on meals and buy books instead. This is his." He bangs on the armor he wears. "He was a warrior in Terra Chima. His honor did him little good here. But, regardless, he was a good man until the end. That is nothing to laugh at, I suspect." "What have you done to offend our Karl?" asks Elba with an equally amused grin as Shawe. "I was trying to see if he was willing to bet me, but he's too clever." "Never bet with this man," Elba advises. "He has a very specific technique to get your gold away from you. First he makes you believe that there will be one outcome - one he himself doesn't believe in - and then he pretends to be generous and let you bet on that outcome, saying:" "I'm a betting man with gold to spare. I'll take the bad odds. What the Hel," they quote in unison. "What was your plan this time around?" "I wanted to see if he'd be willing to bet that Everstien couldn't find Everyman. But I'd bet he will." "But our hero was too smart for you." Elba claps Karl on the back. "Good on you, Karl." -

"Ah," cackles the were-raven. "Everyman, of course." His eyes scan their companions. "Not to kill him, I hope. U'Or, Elba... no, not even you would stoop that low, Shawe." "Don't know." The were-raven cackles again. "Trying to find someone who knows Everyman is like finding hay in a hay stack. Finding someone who knows his current location is more difficult. It is generally the assumption that he will find you." The were-raven pauses dramatically. "Of course, I am up to the task. Follow me." U'Or falls into step next to Boris again. "That is exactly the danger of this city," says U'Or. "How can there be a brawl on the streets? Where is the guard? I am told that in Dastan the Empire is either at war or at peace in Dastan I'm told. Not so here." "What has brought you here?" Everstien asks Keliim. "The vampire must seek asylum in this city or few others, and this one," he stretches out a talon to indicate Karl, "is from the city itself - I can smell it on him - but you are not. Why have you come so far to be a hero?" "He's a bit pompous, isn't he?" hisses Shawe into Karl's ear with a smug grin plastered across his face. "You think that he'll actually be able to find Everyman?" -
Not to get too far into the global warming sort of debate, but really any large land mass sinking into the water would be bad. All continents have coastlines, and even if Uland isn't too bit we know it's just the tip. I don't think it was a whole continent, but it was certainly big enough... Not that any of this matters. Guessing at sizes of imaginary islands.
-
EDIT: Yeah, but WBD's point is that if a whole continent sunk into the ocean ocean levels would have to rise across the board. But this universe is magic! Maybe Baba sank Mercution and quickly drank up all the water that would have been displaced. We don't know the full extent of her powers yet.

Yeah, love the design for them. And I'm telling you, Eubric is going to tumble into the earth. That will be it's downfall!

"Yo man, I don't love fighting and what not but you can't go around digging up other dudes flower patches. And sounds to me like someone is planning on digging into the Hinckwell Villa. That ain't right, dude. Missus Hinckwell already got enough shiz stolen from her, you can't go stealing more. Not cool, dudes. And you can't go waving axes all around, dude, you dig? So, yo, this is how this is gonna go down I think, tell me what's up though Darkstan. You dudes can go home and not bother the flowers or Hinckwells, or we can send you home, you know?" -

Oh, not kind enough. You have always been prickly. Where have your manners ever got you?" He takes out a strange foul smelling liquid and sips at it, pocketing it just as swiftly as he produced it. "You're right. I will pay the heroes in my own way." He looks at the heroes. "You took time off from your task to assist me. Let me expedite the process. You're looking for a contact, perhaps? You wouldn't have stopped if there was immediate danger. Besides, young heroes such as yourselves are best for errand running. I am an expert problem solver. Let me help you." -
Hey! A Present for Doc Daneeka has some winter scenes of Eubric too... though I didn't know we got THAT much snow. But on a less selfish note, yes Sandy, as always a lovely build from you!
-
I agree, actually. My suggestion was a bad fix, and the benefit of the old system that you high light was one of my favorite parts of the game. I stand by the problem, though. I also like the idea of a trickster card, though I imagine that anyone would always play it as their first move if they've picked low level cards for their hand, and screw over the other person. It would also always switch owners at the end of a match.
-
Yeah, I agree it has to remain at least somewhat random. Buy cards you want off of other people. I thought the tournament was alright, but agree game mechanics need tweaking a bit. Going first was indeed a severe dis-advantage. We all figured it out too, anyone who played a card first always threw it away. Maybe if people revealed their hand before the match and then played cards simultaneously? I don't know, might be more fun guessing the order that the opponent may play in, especially as they narrow down. But I know that'd be more work, and I know it was dismissed beforehand. What's more, I think card acquisition was maybe too easy (Pie, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this). Pie came out of the tournament with a plethora of 8s and 9s. I think he played smart, and I know he put gold into it, and I think he deserves a good deck, but he has an absurdly strong deck at this point, and a very versatile one. When he swept someone, particularly a strong opponent, his deck grew by leaps and bounds. It also made the final battle more of a crap shoot, since the decks were so large at that point that no one knew what might happen. What if when you beat someone you only got to pick one of the cards you won against to keep? It'd be more fair to both the winner and the loser, in my opinion, and would make it harder to be impossibly good so quickly. I mean, what does Pie have to do at this point but cross his fingers to out-element a level 10?
