  1. So, no new input on this build? Sorry to revive this thread but, still curious about this.
  2. Sounds like it's your lucky day, with so much expertise around. I'll add my 0.02. The picture you're showing (is it a Case IH tractor?) shows what appears to be an articulated tractor. Articulated Tractors (and wheel-loaders) steer by rotating the front-half of the machine relative to the rear-half. The chassis itslef is made-up of two large sections, that are articulated in the middle. Strictly speaking, such large tractors have NO steerable wheels. The wheels' position is always fixed relative to the chassis (or half-chassis in this case). Such configuration is VERY different from the so-called 4WS (4 wheel steer). In 4WS vehicles, the chassis is a single bulky piece, and both rear and front tires can pivot about vertical axes. In some even older machines, the wheels do not rotate relative to their axles, but both axles pivot about their center vertical lines ... If you are after an articulated chassis design, then look up the instructions for 8265, you can easily get them in PDF from the lego site. Hope this helps, else, ask away. Edit: Also, I do not recall the name of the user but, someone sometime back mad a Case Steiger 4WD tractor with lego ... might be worthwhile looking it up.
  3. Nicely done ... but ... 3rd or 4th? I see only three functions going through the turntable. besides the turntable itself, of course.
  4. I got my second 8455 (while they were still being sold) for $60.00 (list was $100.00) from TRU ... simply because the box was open and store was not sure it was complete ... All I cared for were the pneumatics and they were all there, all 10 of them. This goes like .. humm ... 8-9 years ago though.
  5. Yes ... having the same issue with the 8480 shuttle parts ...:(
  6. You built that (so quickly) just to answer the OP's question ... or had it build for a while? Either way, impressive!
  7. You need to look-up how the tri-star (developed by GM for some military vehicles) works. Because there are only 3 wheels, it is easy to go over obstacles and ditches. If you put 4 wheels however (or even more), such 'off-terrain' capability would strongly diminish ... especially if there is a hole/ditch and one of the wheels needs to take a dice. With 4 wheels, the 2 neighbors would prevent the center wheel from going very low in a pothole.
  8. While nice, (and your perseverance commendable) it would not work very well as a tristar wheel (assuming it is what OP wants to build)
  9. I do not apply stickers and store them away from light. This makes it easier to wash the display sets ... warm/hot water takes care of the dust. All the plastic seems fine. However, I have a large box full of tires and some of them are 'blooming'. No, those are not flowers. The rubber used for tires often has some mineral oils added for processing. After a while, the oils migrate to the outer surface of the rubber and give it a whitsh/residue look. Theis is what is referred to as 'blooming' in the rubber/tire industry. Typically though, it is easy to clean with some alcohol. Now, you mentioned that your sets are left to dry next to an aquarium light ... Can you tell a bit more about the aquarium, size, type, and inhabitants? I got a 72G reef, with softies, LPS, and a well behaved chateodon collare ...
  10. How about this one http://www.bricklink.com/PL/4274.jpg?0 , in white?
  11. There was a remote-controlled 'blimp' sometime back, where the builders used the NXT as a remote control, driven by two motors as joysticks. I think they used the motors as 'angle sensors' only. I can't think of the name, but they used the large/white propeller blades to move/steer the blimp. It was showcased at one large lego event in Denmark/Copenhagen(?)
  12. Thank You ... O Noble Sire. Yes, the old thread was about unique parts. I was actually going through my sorted parts yesterday and noticed I had only one color of each of the parts in my original post ... Hence the motivation.
  13. D3K's swingloader ... you'll LOVE! You should also try some of mahjqa vehicles ... real nice.
  14. Seller won't ship to the US so .. here it is, if you're in Europe and looking for an 8450, try the auction below. Good Luck http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=161203384018
  15. Correct ... but the OP has not confirmed yet he's building a TriStar wheel, or is he?
  16. lol .... Looks like I need to 'think up' another interesting thread ... hmmm
  17. I can guess already what some are thinking ... "Oh no, he's back with another 'lounge' type discussion" ... fair enough. So, what parts can you think of, that were released in one single color only? Here are 2, to get started: 6628 - only available in black 2736 - only available in gray Edit: I take that back. Both parts were actually released in both gray/black, though colors above are most common. PS: This should be fairly easy to do with the 'rebrickable' database made available to us sometime back ... but that is not the point.
  18. Nice collection that you have ... I should put some effort and inventory mine ... All I have is a list from Peeron. I wonder if one can import that into Rebrickable ...
  19. Great job!!! But, from my recollection, the X-29 was white (or maybe light beige) and blue. The upcoming cargo plane should provide the necessary parts.
  20. You're absolutely Correct, I was going for 'extremes/nominal'. The ultimate test is really to try and build the actual contraption, and if you're using relatively new parts with the 3L friction pins, the contraption is difficult to snap together. One option to relieve the stress a bit would be to try the 3L smooth pins instead ... but those are rather rare in modern technic sets ... We're getting really creative here (and using 'rare' Y parts) ... nice!!! I tried LDD (on a separate monitor) on my lunch break, but somehow whenever I do that the color palette gets totally messed up on the other 2 monitors ... and I can't see anything ... I wonder if part 64566 provides the correct spacing .... though it is not 100% technic, but nonetheless can attach to straight liftarms and rather 'strong'.
  21. I started a 'related' thread a while back, and the question I was asking was: "Sets you have bought, but not opened yet". There are many 'opinions' on here but ultimately, the question YOU need to ask yourself is: Does the amount of joy you get from building the set equate to the 'devaluation' ? It is a hard question to answer ...
  22. Sounds like the OP is doing a tristar wheel ... Look up Lego Tristar and you'll see few interesting designs.
  23. This does not seem right. In fact, I tried building it, but could not. Looking at each of the vertices of the triangle, you cannot fit one liftarm in between two others, such that the angle between them is 30 degrees. For the middle liftarm to fit between the neighboring two, the spacing/gap must be equal to 1M. However here, we have 1.732 (=sqrt(3)) minus 1 = 0.732M ... So, the above photo is NOT possible without dramatically stressing the parts. Anyone else sees the dilemma?
  24. I got an email notification that a new thread got started with the following info: summer 2014 sets Three sets to be released in the summer: a bulldozer, a 4WD pickup truck and a Volvo-licensed remote-controlled trench digger. However, when I click the link, I get anerror message from EB saying the following. What exactly is happening here? Broken link, or junk mail? __________________________ Sorry, we couldn't find that!
