  1. I think the Dwarves wanting to reclaim their homeland is actually a better story for a film rather than focussing mainly on Bilbo - there is definitely more action in it, and having more heroes is a good thing. I found the barrel escape scene quite exciting.
  2. Much worse. I think mainly as the studs (or stud holders) shrink on drying out. Also the parts have a real bad quality feel compared to normal lego, not as dense feeling. Also if you bend them, they take a while to bend back, unlike the genuine rubber parts. But then, I guess they are bad quality parts, so it is not surprising they feel that way.
  3. Very nice sets. I like the robin, although it is a shame that they did not use the new black pneumatic T part for the foot, and also dark orange for the "red breast" parts, they would have been a little better than the red. PS The Green Violetear is a hummingbird. Hummingbird is a generic name that covers many different genera / families.
  4. Peter Jackson is a film maker and is interested in making films that will be of interest to current day viewers, based on the original stories. If you want the story of the book, read the book. If you want Peter Jackson's retelling of the story, watch the films. I think it makes sense to connect the Hobbit films to the LOTR films. They are PJ's two trilogies of Middle Earth. It is a bit like making Episode III of Star Wars fit the storyline for Episode IV.
  5. What if the fight took place by a river? What if Treebeard had Gandalf on his side? "Never, ever happen" is a rather strong statement.
  6. The second statement is not quite true, mathematically speaking. The odds of winning on any given day only go up as time goes on if you haven't already won. If you have already been drawn, then your odds drop on the day after and then flatline at zero. It's all about conditional probability - you need the "haven't already won" statement for it to be true.
  7. Yes, I know overall the figure costs will balance out, it is just that you wrote "parts assortment is average" - when it is a very cool new part, then existing plain legs and torso, with a new but fairly non-descript head. For this minifig, it is all about that one hot dog part! Not that it matters too much, as everyone can see the nice clear photos and make up their own minds.
  8. Really? The Tumbler exclusive Batman is a pretty cool prize. And there's always room for Jawas and droids.
  9. OK, he looks pretty cool, and easy enough to make myself. I wondered if a store somewhere had commissioned a Santa Flash.
  10. Do you need to widen your browser window? Quarryman was winner for prize G.
  11. There are some fantastic prizes there, congrats to the first winners. And double congrats to MadAboutLego for getting chosen as the advent window picture! That "The Flash" figure - is he a custom or is there an advent style calendar available with that one in?
  12. I'm also a little disappointed at the lack of printing on the Galaxy Troopers torso. They did it with Galaxy Patrol, even though it is covered up. I'd put the accessories for the hot dog guy as poor, not average. Average would be one accessory. Having nothing is poor. They could have at least included a sausage or a 1x1 round tile and two plates to make a burger. Or a 2x2 tile with a menu on.
  13. It is strange that Lego posted lots of high res images this time, before the reviewers get their complimentary sets and their reviews published. I wonder if they are trying out whether people will use theur own Facebook page and so on in place of initial reviews.
  14. I've done it in the past. The cast parts were not brittle. Quite the opposite, way too flexible and soft. Also use as little acetone as you can. It is surprising how little you need. Add a few drips at a time, and give the parts time to dissolve. If you use too much, the parts shrink and deform when the acetone evaporates.
  15. I can see a fight between rival fast food outlets, mascots fighting - chicken man vs hot dog, bashing each other with cooking pots.
  16. ^^ In LOTR when Gimli is talking about dwarven culture, Aragorn makes the joke that men often think all dwarves are male, because of the female's beards. Also I think I read somewhere that females wore beards and dressed like males when they left the mountains.
  17. The rules say 10pm GMT. That's two hours. Although I've already entered, so it doesn't matter to me! :-)
  18. Sure they could stick lipstick on a dwarf, but you wouldn't see it under her beard. I'm not too bothered by the lipstick on the Cyclops. I think it looks stupid, but I'll still get two. Pull of the hands, the heads will make good eyes for larger monsters, mixel style, the body and legs will get reused somewhere and the headpiece will either get sold or wiped and again used as eyes for a monster.
  19. When we play war games, we often use CMF plates joined together with 2x1 plates on the two outermost studs of the CMF stand, with the minifig on the central two studs. It's quick and easy to remove a dead warrior. It's fairly easy to move lines of 6-8 of them.
  20. It's not a unicorn though, it is a girl in a unicorn suit. It may be that curves aren't depicted since it is meant to be a young girl in the suit, a bit like the little red riding hood / grandma visitor.
  21. She doesn't seem to have the usual curves of a female minifig. Maybe they are very faint. The unicorn also doesn't but then they did that with bumblebee girl. Otherwise females tend to have the exaggerated curves and hips printed.
  22. While I think the female Cyclops is plain stupid, I just see sand blue hands. So she is top of the list for me :-)
  23. Is the King's cape a new shape? It seems to be tucked under his beard, and I assume a hole for the head / neck.
  24. He seems to be based on Ming the Merciless ...
  25. We don't know that Treebeard was a guarantee in a wave 3, if there ever was plans for wave 3. You can assume all you like, but you don't actually know.
