It would be funny if lego signed a completely new agreement with Shell to start when the current one ends, without telling Greenpeace. It would be like Greenpeace execs flying short haul for years without telling anyone instead of using the train, even though they officially oppose short haul flights.

The brand consultant (Mark Borkowski) that "wondered why Lego with such a strong brand and such dominance would get into bed with Shell" and thought that "Greenpeace have done an outstanding job, to apply the pressure" just happens to be employed by Greenpeace. Although it seems The Guardian forgot to mention that.

Simpsons Series 2 CMF is coming ...

You do have to watch out a bit. They will often ship the rest anyway if you don't cancel the order after being told about rare parts not being ready to ship, then they cancel the rare parts later as they cannot supply them. It is a right pain if it turns out they ship you parts worth a few dollars / pounds and cancel the rest as they will charge postage at full rate. I know it is only £2 for postage, but if they send parts worth £2 (after cancelling rare parts worth £50) and you end up paying £4 for them, it doesn't look as good. They had the MF rigging a few days ago showing as in stock. Of course, it wasn't really.

Has anyone combined 10237 Tower of Orthanc and 9476 Orc Forge?
MAB replied to Remus_Lupin's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Get a glass shelf and display Orthanc on that, with the forge below. -
It is because if that makes it to 10000 (unlikely any time soon) and it passes review (even more unlikely) then lego will make something that looks like that. Sure they will redesign a few bits here and there but the finalised set will have the same spirit. They won't throw the original design away and build just the gates, or just the citadel, for example.

The problem with it is that it is about as big as 4-5x Mines of Moria sets. So that is $400 right there. Plus it is a gate with extended side walls but no Minas Tirith inside. Would large numbers of people (especially people not into LOTR) really pay $400 for a gate, lots of figures (with many repeats) and nothing inside? It is nothing like a normal lego set. Lego sets tend to have small number of figures to get to a cheap price point, but allow the user to combine multiples together. Now that Minas Tirith might have worked as a gate, with the fell beast and a few minifigs, and 4x Uruk-hai Army style add on wall sets with a troll in each. I reckon that is how lego would have approached this as a set, in the same style as Helm's Deep.

I don't think it came out of nowhere. There were the pictures of it on the shelf (Autumn 2012) and very grainy images of the side box art months before it was released.

Bart has already come with #1 Radioactive Man comic, so I hope they don't do it again.

Or alternatively buy multiple sets and sell off the other minifigs that are not wanted on BL. And maybe the bricks too.
-
That is not true when discussing CMF. The reason CMF sets get so many new molds is that they sell in very high quantities compared to regular / large sets. So, in the case of CMFs, small sets can afford to have new molds more than large sets.

Some people have armies of soldiers of the dead, 3 in a $100 set. Sure it is still expensive to buy an army but having the possibility gives it more practicality than not having the possibility (without taking a dremel to the helmets).
-
Not all new parts need new molds. Many new parts are just existing parts in a new colour. For example, the common old 2x2 (part number 3003) was introduced in medium nougat for The Simpsons house. The designer probably could have got away with using two 1x2 bricks instead, that already existed in medium nougat but they got a new part which is currently exclusive to that set. The AFOL wouldn't have had that choice - they would either have to glue two 1x2 together, use a different colour, or cut down a larger brick (if it existed).
-
Having an active license also means they can keep selling any stock they have remaining, which they are doing.

A removable plume was perfectly practical for the CMF Roman Commander. Part collectors / sellers could well be interested in spending that much on sets to get an army. Selling off the excess minifigs to people that don't want to buy the set, and the bricks to people that don't want the minifigs. It happened with Helm's Deep, Dol Guldur battle, Weathertop, Mines of Moria, ...
-
A separate plume would also have an advantage that the colours wouldn't be painted on. The painting looks pretty bad. There is gold leaching onto the top of the helmet, and a red splodge corner on the gold.

I'd also like the thread to remain open. If it is unpinned that is fine. If it is closed, the same discussion will just shift to the Hobbit thread.

Virtual Lego and Renders should be stated on MOCs?
MAB replied to PaddyBricksplitter's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Maybe they should be called MODs - My Own Design. When I have lego time, I prefer to use bricks, rather than do it virtually. I also like to know if a model is actually viable, for which real bricks must be used. -
Lego designers don't have to though. There are plenty of new parts made every year - no doubt part of this is due to there not being the right part available.
-
Packages. No doubt there will be multiple theatrical and extended versions to milk the fans. :-)

^ It's a nice MOC, but would it sell? It contains the whole Fellowship (already done, so rehashed minifigs) and mainly grey bricks. Even if LOTR hadn't been done yet, why would they produce a set with the whole Fellowship in? It would kill sales of the other sets in the series.
-
That is simply not true. Most designer videos (at least the ones aimed at adults) are for non-UCS sets: Many modulars (Town Hall, Pet Shop, etc) Mini-modulars Camper van Maersk train Winter Village Post Office Even little SW models get the treatment (eg. 10215 Obi-wan's Jedi Starfighter) They do them for UCS sets, but not exclusively for UCS sets. There are also numerous designer videos aimed at kids for sets more aimed at kids ... http://www.lego.com/en-gb/videos/categories/designer-videos I agree wave 1 of LOTR got a whole load of designer videos aimed at adults (ie. not cartoony) - presumably they were trying to aim the range at adults back then. Now most of the videos for the Hobbit are much more cartoony, presumably aimed at kids instead.

Even with that there would still be complaints: Where is the Prancing Pony? Where is the Green Dragon and more Hobbits? Where are Smeagol and Deagol? : : : Lego will never release such commercially sensitive information.
