REVIEW: 71008 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13
MAB replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm also a little disappointed at the lack of printing on the Galaxy Troopers torso. They did it with Galaxy Patrol, even though it is covered up. I'd put the accessories for the hot dog guy as poor, not average. Average would be one accessory. Having nothing is poor. They could have at least included a sausage or a 1x1 round tile and two plates to make a burger. Or a 2x2 tile with a menu on.- 104 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
MAB replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It is strange that Lego posted lots of high res images this time, before the reviewers get their complimentary sets and their reviews published. I wonder if they are trying out whether people will use theur own Facebook page and so on in place of initial reviews. -
I've done it in the past. The cast parts were not brittle. Quite the opposite, way too flexible and soft. Also use as little acetone as you can. It is surprising how little you need. Add a few drips at a time, and give the parts time to dissolve. If you use too much, the parts shrink and deform when the acetone evaporates.

I can see a fight between rival fast food outlets, mascots fighting - chicken man vs hot dog, bashing each other with cooking pots.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion

^^ In LOTR when Gimli is talking about dwarven culture, Aragorn makes the joke that men often think all dwarves are male, because of the female's beards. Also I think I read somewhere that females wore beards and dressed like males when they left the mountains. -

The rules say 10pm GMT. That's two hours. Although I've already entered, so it doesn't matter to me! :-) -

Sure they could stick lipstick on a dwarf, but you wouldn't see it under her beard. I'm not too bothered by the lipstick on the Cyclops. I think it looks stupid, but I'll still get two. Pull of the hands, the heads will make good eyes for larger monsters, mixel style, the body and legs will get reused somewhere and the headpiece will either get sold or wiped and again used as eyes for a monster. -
Calling all LEGO Army Builders... (BATTLE TRAYS)
MAB replied to nine09nueve's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
When we play war games, we often use CMF plates joined together with 2x1 plates on the two outermost studs of the CMF stand, with the minifig on the central two studs. It's quick and easy to remove a dead warrior. It's fairly easy to move lines of 6-8 of them. -

It's not a unicorn though, it is a girl in a unicorn suit. It may be that curves aren't depicted since it is meant to be a young girl in the suit, a bit like the little red riding hood / grandma visitor. -

She doesn't seem to have the usual curves of a female minifig. Maybe they are very faint. The unicorn also doesn't but then they did that with bumblebee girl. Otherwise females tend to have the exaggerated curves and hips printed. -

While I think the female Cyclops is plain stupid, I just see sand blue hands. So she is top of the list for me :-) -

Is the King's cape a new shape? It seems to be tucked under his beard, and I assume a hole for the head / neck. -

He seems to be based on Ming the Merciless ... -
We don't know that Treebeard was a guarantee in a wave 3, if there ever was plans for wave 3. You can assume all you like, but you don't actually know.

I'm hoping for a grey order from bricklink, to extend my roman fort. Santa can help too if he wants. I'm currently on the road, so can only build with my microscale kit. -
At least someone understands :-)

I found the Simpsons CMFs were great for parts for MOCing other city characters. The Simpsons' skins are the same yellow as lego-folk, so the parts are easily changable, they gave us some nice new colour torsos, new dual colour arms and short legs, the new torso shape for Maggie, which is great for a small child in lego city ... there's plenty of integration in my book. -
Yes, I know. I also know the Lego customer rep confirmed it was not three beard.
-
Official confirmation that it is not three beard. Dr Who will probably be big competition for the next ideas round.
-
People that buy the set that don't have others will complain about the lack of eagles. Plus added expense for two or three new molds - wings and torso. Maybe, although it would probably be a reprint normal head, rather than a new molded head like Azog - unless they reuse Azog's headpiece and call him Bolg. But where is Legolas for people that buy one set? He's a key character ... Dain Ironfoot is a dwarf, in armour. And again a named character that people will want. If they put an Ent in a set and don't call him Treebeard, people complain that there is no Treebeard. Sure you can downsize a build and replace with minifigs / animals, but lego is meant to be a construction toy.

He'd get better focussed and bigger pictures by using a larger container such as a biscuit tin. Sure, you can use lego to do many things - but is it actually better (or at least as good as) the current alternatives. You can make a wonky table steady by using a few stacked plates under one of the legs - but is it any better than using a few beer mats? -
I'd buy at those prices, but they are rather low. Your Gondor Army set at $35 - 6 minifigs plus a troll plus a wall. Their Uruk-hai army set $30 a few years ago - six minifigs plus a horse plus a wall. Although they seem similar, the bigfigs add a lot to the cost and they do not come in small boxes / sets. Think about Hulk(s), Green Goblin, Goblin King, Mines of Moria troll, ... all bigger sets. Maybe $35 if you remove the troll. Set 3: 5 minifigs, plus a larger fig (Balrog - presumably brick built) and a collapsing bridge of Kazad Dum - that is going to need to be at least as big as the $60 a few years ago Weathertop set, if not bigger.
-
Unfortunately, your plan fails at step 1.
-
9475 is also missing in the number sequence for LOTR, although this is the same number as a much older set. Same with the poly bags, 30214. I doubt we will ever see them filled.
-
Did it? I seem to recall quite a few "meh" comments on multiple forums about both Weathertop and Mines of Moria at the time. Then only looking back after what came later did these sets turn out to be better than they were originally.
