  1. Hi there, I'm new here and... well ok, not so new. I've been on EB for exactly 2 years, and I think it's time to introduce myself So I'm Bob (no that's not my real name), I'm 34 and I live in Toulouse, France. I'm a project manager in software development (specialized in PHP and Javascript). When I first came on EB, I haven't touched a lego brick for the last 18 years. I was looking for informations as I wanted to build a Super Star Destroyer. I built my own design on LDD, discovered Bricklink, and started the construction on autumn 2012. It is 1,57m long and should have 5000 bricks, but I never ordered the 2500 bricks needed for the upper city... In the meantime I designed smaller models in LDD, improving my use of the "new" bricks and building techniques. I'm very proud of some of my smallest designs: In early 2013 I started working on a new big project, but LDD started crashing when in reached the 40 000 bricks. The Astradea will remain unfinished, but I learned a lot while building it, and after the Super Star Destroyer's flat surfaces and angles, it proved to myself that I could build curves with Lego, and that became an obsession... With the Summer, my "EB life" started to change... It started with a Friend week, during which I designed 3 little sets. Pandora was kind enough to give me a friend's tag The same week, Si-MOCs gave me a sci-fi tag and my first title for my implication in the "WIP feaback thread" . Later that month I started working on some Alien Conquest sets, as I found the original theme quite nice. In the first weeks of August I started playing Star Wars: The Old Republic, even if I promised myself years ago that I wouldn't play at a MMORPG again! I was inspired by the designs of the ships, the colors and the curves, and I started working on a new big project. In 3 weeks I designed the Zenith. I spent the next month pondering if I should build it or not. I even developed my own tool to help me with Bricklink, keeping track of stores and prices. And in October I decided to pass the orders. At the last of November, the Zenith was standing on my desk, with almost no modifications of the LDD design. But given it's size, I just couldn't take good pictures of it, so I waited to find solutions for a "studio" and I bought a new camera, and in the firsts days of February I got enough sunlight to take good pictures, and posted them on EB. I designed some other models during the 2013/2014 winter. one of them was even brickbuilt by a fellow member of EB, and that made me very proud that someone I don't even know bought bricks to build my model. In February I also posted a serie of MOCs, based on space ninjas... I imagined a short story, and designed 6 spaceships, each with it's own colors and design features. One of them was already designed, and another needed only some updates. The white one was named after EB's root admin Whitefang, and I knew since it's first design back in december that I would build it. The needs to build with real bricks was getting stronger every day, but I continued to design some models in LDD. In May everything changed. I bought my first Lego set in 20 years, not counting the smaller ones I bought in the last couple of years ,Star Wars planets sets mostly. I jumped on the micro GARC bandwagon thanks to Si-MOCs, and at the end of the month, I built the Whitefang and the RZ-2b prototype, one Sci-Fi MOC and one Star Wars MOC. After building these two, and especially Whitefang (I beat you gravity!), I know I won't be using LDD anymore, and try to build with the bricks I own, even if it limits me a lot as I still have some nice designs in mind... But I still have one LDD MOC to finish, one I'e been working on for the a few months, and I'm very attached to. I don't know when I'll finish it, but I wil. On EB I've not just posted MOCs. I've meet great people, and a community. In life I'm shy, reserved, and I don't go toward people easily. Here I'm all that, plus I'm not confident with my english, so I don't talk/write much. In two years I've taken more and more part in the community. I started with helping people in the Sci-Fi forum, then participated getting SoNE to start, I was nominated as Regulator of the Sci-Fi forum and hosted a contest, and now, as a Moderator, I try to help the staff as best as I can. Thanks Eurobricks for the last two years.
  2. Everything is proceeding
  3. Welcome on EB And that's a nice first post !
  4. I know... Maybe you could do a complete presentation of your project in your first post, and I'm pretty sure someone will frontpage it And great project by the way.
  5. Ice planet turtle often relax themselves by doing some skiing after a long journey of work...
  6. I understand. I did some more shoots and got a nice result
  7. Is the white background mandatory? My turtle is mostly white, and I can get a good picture of it against a white background
  8. Poor Ewoks... Some nice tree techniques, and the AT-ST cutting trees is great.
  9. Thanks Markus. That was a challenge, as I wanted to have a complete cockpit, with a seat and controls, and most of the canopies I own are big for that contest. Here is a view of the cockpit: Thanks Monty
  10. Thanks, and yes it is wider than 14x14, but it folds nicely to fit in the box
  11. It looks powerful! Very nice details all over.
  12. My entry for the 14x14x6 small starfighter contest on flickr. Decided to make a little story behind the build. Hope you like it. "Makoban was a powerful sith inquisitor during the Old Republic era. She wielded a lightsaber, which blade was altered by her Force lightning abilities." "She piloted an unknown fighter, agile and small, it was also equipped with many weapons that made her a dreadful opponent both on land and in space." And it fits in a 14x14x5 studs box
  13. Do the merchants really need a different flag? I think kids can understand that a "military" faction have a flag, but I'm not sure about merchants. Anyway, my preference goes to these flags:
  14. We had to remove the review of the Exo Suit, but it will be back soon.
  15. After discussion with the staff, the topic has been blocked because promotion of other website/blog is forbidden on EB.
  16. Thanks for the video. Too bad I couldn't attend this year So much great builds. I really liked the small diorama at 5:30 about the J.J. Goldman famous concert scene in 2007, something everyone should see (here, at 3:50 ).
  17. I don't have confirmed info for the moment, but considering the number of parts (321) it should be around 35 usd/euro
  18. Rules and FAQ Introduction Andomeda's Gates is a role playing game that takes place in a distant galaxy where 3 corporations struggle to gain control of planets to exploit their resources. Members can join one corporation and start building it's supremacy. Each build rewards players with credits and their corporation with resources. Challenges will be held to earn even more rewards, and even prizes. Getting started Create your character, choose a corporation and a job .It's preferable that your character has the same name as you do on EB, but it's not mandatory. A customized sig-fig is fine, but all your other minifigs and builds should be purist. Make a picture of your character (100 pixels by 100 pixels) or choose one of the generic avatars provided in your corporation thread. Introduce yourself in the Introduction and Discussion topic. A staff member will add your details to the Players and Planet index shortly, but you can start building right away. Where to Post What All your builds should be posted in a new thread in this subforum. there is no need for any prefix tags for freebuilds but challenge builds will need one, This Rules and FAQ topic contains the rules that apply to every builds. Players should introduce characters in the Introduction and Discussion topic, and staff will add them to the Players and Planets index. All posts in the Introduction and Discussion topic should be Out of Character. The three corporations' topics are used to discuss and roleplay In Character with your teammates. Announce your builds in your faction topic. Challenges will be announced in their own topics, and you will be able to use those topics to ask questions about and discuss the specific challenge. Building for your corporation This is how you make your character progress. You can build anything in link with your corporation's activities:Mining, harvesting resources, Constructing offensive or defensive building or vehicle, Constructing civilian or research buildings, Conducting spying acts on other corporation, Conducting piracy acts against other corporation, Dealing with local flora and/or fauna ... Your entry must be located on a planet of the system no farther away than one travel from your corporation's domination area. You cannot build on the home planet of other corporations. Your build must specify on which planet it takes place. Each planet has it's own environnement and provide one of the three resources, so check the Players and Planets Index or the Dynamic Galaxy Map for more informations. You must also choose one or more tags from the list below that describe your build: Military Civil Building Vehicle Spaceship / Airplane / Submarine Land/Water vehicle Spying, Piracy Exploration Science Updated Tagging Rules are in the spoiler tags are after the link: Your build will be judged and scored on a scale from 1 to 7 (1 being a minifig on a plate, and 6 being a great build... 7 is for awesome builds). This score will determine what you and your corporation will earn. For example, if your build on a planet rewarding Awesomnium is scored 3, you will gain: 30 Credits for you, 30 Awesomnium for your corporation, 3 Domination points for your corporation on this planet. You can submit only one build per week, from Monday to Sunday (Monday 10:00UTC/GMT). The judge will post the scores as soon as they are available, but no later than Wednesday. Building style and colors There is no constraint on building style, but you should respect the colors of your corporation: For Octan Corp, the primary color is white, with red and green accents. For Kawashita Group, the primary color is dark bluish grey, with red and dark red accents. For M.A.N.T.I.S., the primary color is black, with green and lime green accents. Bluish grey, dark bluish grey and black can be freely used for greebles and details. Gaining control of planets When a corporation has 30 more Domination points on a planet than the two other corporation, it gains control over the planet and receive a reward defined for each planet. Controlled areas can be viewed on the Dynamic Galaxy Map. Buildings for the Alien's Civilizations In addition to building for their corporation, players can also build for the alien's civilizations. Alien builds must represent the point of view of an alien, not your corporation character (if you have any). Every planets are open for alien builds without restrictions, except for the 3 home planets. Your build must specify on which planet it takes place. If your build depict an encounter with one of the corporations, it must be a corporation that has at least one Domination point on the planet. Your build will be judged and scored on a scale from 1 to 7. This score will determine what you will earn and what the corporations will loose. For example, if your build is scored 3, you will gain 30 Credits, and all the corporations will loose 3 Domination points on the planet. Remember you can submit only one build per week. Fleet system The Corporation Fleets: Each corporation have a fleet on the map, starting at the home planets. Each week the CEO (or one designated officer) can move the fleet to an adjacent planet. The CEO or designated officer, must inform AG staff of the movement at latest Monday 9 AM GMT. If no move was announced by then, the fleet stays at the planet it was the week before. The move will occur after the weekly builds are judged. Only "buildable" planets can be protected by the fleet (Controlled planets and adjacents). A fleet cannot move from a non-friendly planet to another non-friendly planet There can be multiple fleets at a single planet. Alien fleets 3 alien fleets are be on the map, starting at C06, F04 and F08. Each week, the alien fleets will move randomly to an adjacent planet or stay on the same planet. Rewards and restrictions: An alien build on a planet where an alien fleet is present will cause a loss of -2 domination points for the corporations. Corporations can't build on a planet where an alien fleet is present, unless their own fleet is also present. Building on a planet with your own fleet on it grants a bonus of +1 domination point. Other corporations cannot build on a protected planet, unless their own fleet is also present. When the corporation fleet is at the same planet as the alien fleet, both benefits are reduced by 1. Homeworld Bonus Building at the home world now gives a 100% resource bonus! This double the amount of awesomnium you get for your score but do not effect items or tech bonuses. Hopefully we will see more builds on our home worlds now as they have been a bit ignored for tactical reasons so far. Building in challenges From time to time, challenges will be held. During a challenge, players will compete with each-other to gain reward for themselves, their corporation or both by completing one or more objective. Each challenge's specific rules will be posted in their own thread, explaining what to build, and how to enter. All building rules apply as for any build outside challenges. You will be given an objective in the challenge, and you must build your character attempting to complete that objective. Further details will be given in the episode topic itself. (Including any size limitations or guidelines for what the build should look like.) All your entries are considered Works In Progress until the deadline. You may ask for critiques from other members and update your entry up until that time. Your build will be scored from 1 to 10 Players and corporations will receive credits and resources in the same maner as any other build. Each challenge's rules define how the winning corporation is chosen and what prize(s) will be awarded. There is no bonuses from corporations' technologies or players' jobs and equipments during challenges. Read carrefully the challenge's rules as they may differ from the general rules above. Governance of the corporations Each corporation is led by a CEO. He/she can take decisions for the corporation, like trading resources with other corporations or researching new technologies. The CEO of a corporation is the player that has earned the most Credits. AG's staff will follow whatever decision he takes and post in it's corporation discussion thread. Jobs When joining a corporation, a player will have to choose a job in the list: Pilot - Specialists of flying machines, pilots are at ease both in atmosphere and in space. (Build a spacecrafts or aircrafts) Driver - Moving on planet surfaces require skillfull drivers. (Build a land vehicles) Explorer - Making the first steps on unknown planets, explorers are able to deal with flora, fauna or inhabitant of all kinds. (Build must feature flora, fauna, or an alien first encounter) Engineer - Able to build anything with limited resources, engineers are vital to space exploration. (Build buildings or structures) Scientist - Experimenting or testing prototypes is the daily routine of scientists. (Build experiments or researches) Special force - When a dirty job needs to be done, call the special forces. (Build piracy or spying actions) A player's job doesn't limit what he can build, but it will grant him a bonus of 3 Credits when his/her build meets its job's requirements. A pilot can build a land vehicle, he'll just not get its job bonus. Using credits and resources Each player can use its Credits to buy Personal Skills for himself. These Personal Skills offer various bonuses when a player post a build (outside of challenges). A corporation can use its resources to advance in a Technology Tree. Some of the technologies will give bonuses to all that corporation's members. See the Tech tree and Personal Skills topic for more informations. To research a technology, the CEO of a corporation has to post which technology he wants to research in it's corporation discussion thread, and one of the corporation's members has to do a build representing that technology, the technology will be considered learnt when the build is posted. The build isn't considered as the builder's weekly build, won't be scored, and won't reward the builder with credits or resources. To progress in the tech tree, a corporation must start at one (or more) of the three starting technologies at the center of the tree. Then it can research any technology linked to a known technology, or one of the starting technology. The links on the tech tree are only links, not requirements. Trading Trading of credits between players of any corporation is allowed. The player that give the credits has to post the amount and the name of the receiving player in it's corporation discussion thread. Trading of resources between corporation is allowed. The CEO of the giving corporation has to post the amount and the name of the receiving corporation in it's corporation discussion thread. 19. I built this promo-set yesterday and wondered too why use that 3L bar... It's clearly not necessary... But tonight I built Benny's spaceship, and two little droid at the back are loosing their arms at the slightest touch... And guess what, a 3L bar in there could help keep them tigthly in place
  20. Next LEGO Ideas' product has been revealed today. We have not much informations for now, but if you like space and green, head over to the Sci-Fi subforum.
  21. I'm sure you can convey the ideas in your post with more decent language. Please keep the discussion on Paul B's MOC
  22. Thanks, I was actually looking for a software like that And I support Calabar's request
  23. Yes the stand looks great! Maybe we could get instructions for them
  24. Hothbricks indicate 321 pieces and a US price at 34.99$... To be confirmed... the barrels do feel out of place, and I don't see why they could have used Peter's solution for the arms...
