  1. Honestly, I wouldn't even accept the set for free, let alone pay for it even at a discount. I do remember @legoleaker posting now. The image they posted was already removed by the time I saw their post so I'm not sure if it was exactly the same as what was leaked today but having now seen the leaked image of the set, it looks so abysmal that I can understand why other posters assumed it was a bad mock-up and a fake. I can't think about one redeeming quality for the set. The King Triton hairpiece would work for an animated version but there still isn't a tailpiece that would match Ariel's while simultaneously be true to Triton's look. Between the Peter Pan microdoll set and now this, I'm having little faith in these Disney sets. Hopefully that will change once we get a look at the $400 castle especially with this implication that we will get a proper Ariel figure there and in human form to boot. Hopefully Eric can be expected as well. As for what dress Ariel will be in, I'm guessing her blue kingdom tour dress with the bow or her pink dinner gown. Her wedding gown doesn't seem feasible considering how her bulky sleeves wouldn't be able to be adapted. Besides the already confirmed Cinderella, I do hope Belle is included along with a blue dress Aurora (or Briar Rose Aurora) and a purple dress Jasmine. I'd want Snow White as well but I'm guessing she'll be exclusive to the cottage set (praying to anyone who can hear that it'll be based off of the animated movie and not a crummy remake) so perhaps Rapunzel in lieu of her in the castle set. Or a Frozen II version of Elsa in the white gown with long, flowing hair.
  2. Exactly, I expect to see this 40% off very soon. These remakes do not have lasting power. On Disney+ and the TV channels, it's the animated movies that have the highest streaming ranks or get aired all the time. It's the animated movies that we still see in the parks or in stores for merchandise. Bringing up the live-action Beauty and the Beast as an example, it's not like you can still find merchandise for that movie today anywhere. People didn't even want the Belle dress back then from that movie let alone now. These remakes sell merchandise right when they're first released and that's it. I wouldn't expect anyone will be buying merchandise for this remake of Mermaid by this December, yet there's a D2C set that's going to sit on store shelves for likely 2 years? I must have missed your initial post. Is this your way of confirming that Ariel will be in the $400 Disney Castle? And do you have any more information on that set, like other characters who will be included as well as in what outfits?
  3. Some people are speculating online that the reason JKR approved of this reboot is because she wants to sever ties with the majority of the young cast of HP who denounced her. Honestly, she's been petty enough that I can believe it after she refused to attend the HP Reunion Special to meet the cast and after she refused Emma Watson's request for a sit-down discussion on transgender people. Is this perhaps her way of punishing Dan, Emma, Rupert, and company by erasing their legacy and picking new actors who won't disagree with her?
  4. I think I preferred when they made minidolls lol. My guess is that this was Disney's mandate especially since we know they have control over what sets get made. This movie in particular they have been pushing very hard to try and get accepted by the public. The biggest indicator of that was at the Oscars a few weeks ago. It's one thing to show a trailer during the program but Disney (since they own ABC which airs the Oscars) went as far as making the trailer actually a part of the show. This was a move that was lambasted all over the Internet as the most desperate and tacky moment of an otherwise refined night. If that is the intention for the Snow White set, it would be especially tone-deaf of Disney/Lego considering we've never had a minifigure of Snow White or any of the Seven Dwarfs and this is probably our first and last chance. I'm worried the Peter Pan set will also be based on the remake now, which means it'll be the third wasted opportunity this year alone to get a proper Wendy minifigure.
  5. If the show only got officially confirmed today, I doubt they would have anything ready to showcase like concept art or designs for a new castle, let alone theme music.
  6. I think another issue which may have led to a HP reboot is the fact that the theme park rights are owned by Universal, not WB. With Disney, there's no danger of a SW reboot because so much of the Disney theme parks have attractions or lands invested in the series. I have no idea if WB gets anything from all the HP merchandise sold at Universal, but especially if they don't, they wouldn't feel beholden to the originals being present there. Personally, I don't see this remake working at all. Harry Potter is very much a product of the 90s/2000s. Kids today don't have that same connection unless they grew up watching the movies through their parents. They'd have to heavily change the series to adapt it more for the Gen Z crowd and that's only going to further distance older fans from this reboot. Most older fans will already feel outraged that the originals are being phased out for a blatant cash grab. And while people are justifying the existence of this new reboot by claiming it'll be closer to the books, there's no guarantee of that either. For as much as they link back to the books, there's probably going to be just as much if not more that they change. His Dark Materials fans thought the HBO series would be an improvement on the movie and more book accurate, but very little of the book fandom enjoys the show and it didn't catch on with general audiences at all. Cursed Child starts off where the HP epilogue ends so it would be 19 years later. Deathly Hallows Part 2 came out in 2011 so 2030 would be the most accurate age-wise for Cursed Child to become a movie. However, Daniel Radcliffe has basically said he's not interested in returning anytime soon and he would only consider the idea after a 30-40 year gap like the original Star Wars cast took decades to reunite. And from what I've read online, Emma Watson wants nothing to do with JK Rowling anymore and would never return. I'm not sure Daniel would return with JKR's involvement either since he's been very vocal lately about supporting trans youth and other marginalized groups and how people need to listen to them. Another issue with Cursed Child is that because of all the time travel, the play involves younger versions of the characters and Dan, Emma, Rupert, and all the other actors playing the Hogwarts students couldn't pass off as, say their Goblet of Fire selves, now let alone in years to come. And what will they do about characters whose actors have passed away like Alan Rickman as Snape? The only thing that would work is going the Star Wars route and using CGI to de-age the actors and reconstruct the deceased actors. Rings of Power and LOTR are a separate situation because two different companies have the rights to those two properties. Apparently Amazon and Jeff Bezos were very angry when they heard the news that WB was making more LOTR movies, so the dueling franchises exist there because the rights are divided. With HP, WB owns it entirely so it would be very bizarre to make a reboot show while continuing to make movies based on the originals. That would confuse casual audiences and cannibalize the franchise, and it's a reason why Disney didn't continue the EU for Star Wars while starting their own movies.
  7. Which is a total cash-grab especially since I doubt the first one will even do well enough to justify a sequel.
  8. They have a very small role in the movie but one of the opening songs, Daughters of Triton, introduces them all. A few of the sisters have increased parts in the 90s TV show and they were also more pivotal characters in the Marvel comics and kids books from that decade. Disney intended to launch a Mermaids franchise featuring Ariel and her six sisters in the 2000s but their merchandise didn't sell well enough to justify giving them their own franchise.
  9. Rowling also said no to a movie. She was worried it would hurt the play financially because why would anyone pay to see it if there's a movie. For the same reason most musicals don't get film adaptations until they've been around for a long time.
  10. Not interested at all if it's not the classic movie. Not sure why they would make a D2C set on a remake when they have no longevity.
  11. Thanks for sharing! A YouTuber already bought two sets and combined them into one as seen in the video below. The back of the house is just the front of the house flipped though. However, I thought the video might be of some interest to people on here because it shows how the house looks if you add more balloons to it as well as instructions on how to add them. With all the stickers, it's a shame they couldn't come up with one more for the mailbox with Carl and Ellie's handprints but I guess the mailbox is so small that it would be almost impossible to apply a sticker to it. I'm thinking of the Harry Potter line where we're getting a new playline Hogwarts Express train after the last one just retired a few months ago while a D2C train is still more or less newly available. Then we're getting a playline Weasley's Wizard Wheezes set even though the D2C Diagon Alley already features that. And then there's also the survey leak of a new D2C Burrow when there was one on shelves not too long ago. Disney is a separate IP obviously, but considering how the Up house has already been labeled a bestseller, I could see Lego capitalizing on its popularity by making a larger version in the future. I know some people have been speculating about the airship being the next Up set that could release but I feel the airship doesn't really have the same level of recognition or pop culture relevance like the house does.
  12. Hope you're enjoying the sets. I think they've done a good job with the exterior of the house, but there are a few missing things that bother me like the lack of Ellie's armchair, no handprints on the mailbox, and no stairlift with stairs. I wonder if there will perhaps be a D2C Up set in the future with a much larger house that could include Kevin and potentially Ellie as well. Maybe even a young Carl and Ellie as newlyweds.
  13. She definitely should have had dual molded legs or a fabric skirt piece to portray her skirt and legs.
  14. For the Agrabah set, I'm very curious if besides a minifigure, they might also include one of the animal companions. Like an Abu or Iago. Lego is much better now about including the animal sidekicks than before and both were snubbed for the first two Disney CMF waves.
  15. That's Aurora in her pink dress though. And not a very movie accurate version anyway since it's got gold accents, gold glitter, and a new design for her back torso. A microscale Sleeping Beauty castle (and I'd be very curious to see if they use the movie version or the Disneyland version) could feature Aurora in a different look, either in her blue dress or her as Briar Rose. Prince Phillip is included in the Maleficent dragon set if that ever does become an official set and not just a planned one. Personally I do think we will get it and the Snow White cottage set because the CMF series seemed design to complement these sets by including the popular characters who wouldn't really fit in the sets. Aurora doesn't feature in the battle against Maleficent and the Evil Queen is only at the cottage in her witch form. If there's no actual Snow White set, it would be bizarre that they didn't include Snow White in the CMF series especially when they did include the Evil Queen. However, Prince Phillip has two looks in his movies. His forest outfit with red hat and cape and then his formal ballroom outfit from the end of the film when Aurora's return is announced and the couple dances. Since the Maleficent set is using his forest outfit, they could include Phillip in a Sleeping Beauty microscale castle set in his formal ballroom outfit by the end. Another option would be to use the forest outfit but include his red hat since he doesn't wear it in the battle against Maleficent.
  16. Then maybe that's why they chose the Clock Tower for the set if it really is that and not the Great Hall entrance.
  17. I would prefer a full-scale Agrabah palace but perhaps we'll get that in the future one day, especially since we still don't have a full-scale Haunted Mansion and that's heavily requested. I also wouldn't mind getting more of these micro builds if this is the only way to get some of the classic castles and palaces from the movies. Maybe the Snow White castle could get us a minifigure of her prince if he doesn't show up in the cottage set (and there are technically two castles in Snow White so either one could work for him). For Agrabah, my best guess is Aladdin as Prince Ali. If not him then Jasmine in one of her other dresses or the Sultan.
  18. Good thinking. Let's hope that's the case. It could give us the courtyard where Voldemort and Harry duel as well which would make more sense than the clock tower which I don't remember being featured in any pivotal scenes in Deathly Hallows.
  19. Luna's a lot more popular with the fandom and casual audiences, both with book fans and movie fans. When it comes to Harry Potter merchandise, she's one of the first characters to get her own unique merchandise whereas I very rarely see Ginny get that attention. Even Ron doesn't get a lot of merchandise anymore compared to the early days of the movies. I remember reading once that the best-selling character wands belong to Harry, Hermione, Dumbledore, Snape, Voldemort, Luna and maybe Draco as well. Another factor is that Ginny's only distinguishing trait, besides being Harry's canon love interest and a Weasley, is her red hair. In contrast Luna has her trademark blonde hair, butterbeer cork necklace, radish earrings, spectrespecs, Gryffindor lion hat, connection to Thestrals, and the Quibbler. She also has an identifiable patronus with the rabbit and her pink outfit from HBP (the one with the spectrespecs) is an iconic look that isn't just the generic Hogwarts uniform. Luna was also designed as the anti-Hermione so most fans can relate to either Hermione or Luna whereas Ginny never had much of a personality.
  20. Just to clarify, the Agrabah set isn't going to be a full-scale palace like the Mermaid or Frozen palaces. It's supposed to be like the mini Disney Castle that came with the vintage Mickey minifigure or the mini Haunted Mansion. So the Agrabah one is more than likely going to feature a minifigure, not a minidoll.
  21. It'll be nice to see Molly in a set that isn't the Burrow or Diagon Alley. McGonagall's inclusion makes me hope the statues that come to life are included as well. I'm a little confused as to why they're remaking the Clock Tower especially since the Hospital Wing already featured the clock. If they're meant to combine so the clock from the Hospital Wing can stack onto this tower portion, that's great, and I'd like to see a pendulum as well, but I can't imagine the Battle of Hogwarts set would only feature the lower portion of the Clock Tower minus the actual clock. I guess we'll have two clocks now in the modular build. And of course, they only included 3 Quidditch posts in the Quidditch trunk so that you'll feel obligated to pick up two trunks to make a full Quidditch pitch. I just hope they retained the white legs for the Quidditch uniforms and include matching capes, since the Cho polybag had different color legs and no cape.
  22. The Agrabah set though is more in the vein of the mini Disney Castle and Haunted Mansion sets. The Little Mermaid set seems to be more like the Frozen D2C set which was minidolls.
  23. A pity. The Little Mermaid is my favorite movie, but it's going to be hard to justify purchasing the palace set if they give us minidolls instead. Also after the Peter Pan storybook set debacle, I wonder if there's not a chance the set is based on the remake instead of the original movie. BTW do you know if the new Peter Pan set with Wendy and Tinker Bell was also confirmed to be minifigures or minidolls? You're right that King Triton is easy enough to customize. This video also shows how to make a custom King Triton.
  24. I had been predicting we would get an Agrabah Palace but I always assumed it would be a full-scale size like the Frozen Castle. Maybe one day in the future. I'm very curious what minifigure we'll get with it. My guess is the Prince Ali version of Aladdin, since that look is popular enough that I expected we would see it in the $400 Disney castle with all the princes and princesses. If we get that version of Aladdin with the Agrabah Palace, then I'm assuming Aladdin and Jasmine probably won't be in the $400 castle set. If the minifigure isn't Aladdin in his Prince Ali outfit, then it'll either be Jasmine in one of her purple dresses or perhaps even the Sultan. He's the only major human character left from the movie not to get a minifigure. For The Little Mermaid palace set, has it been confirmed if it's minidolls or minifigures? I'm guessing minidolls like the Frozen set although I hope not. I'd love to see a minifigure set including King Triton and all his seven daughters.
  25. Is there a release date given for the $400 castle?
