Have you tried capacitors to filter the noise? I hear that's a good solution for some filtering problems.

I'd say go for it - but only because it's way too expensive to get second copies for later sale or building as a student, personally. I would save the boxes, instructions, and sticker sheets if at all possible... I have a large bag with all the sticker sheets from the sets I've gotten over the past two or three years. Pretty sure some of them will be worth something someday!

LEGO Pink LED Neon style Advertising Light
Phoxtane replied to ozipete's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Edge-lit signs are great, you can recreate neon effects without the cost! -
Maybe go with grooves that are a plate deep and a stud wide that the wheel passes over, aligned with the tracks - stop at the right time and the wheel sits on the gap without moving side to side.

I agree with more frontpaging for Technic models in general, but not with only frontpaging the 'best' MOC for that month. There's too many good ones - and what are the criterion for what constitutes a good MOC? I don't, for example, have the ability to throw eight massive tires and eight XL motors into a truck and tow a car with the result like some people can (no offense Zblj!), so does that automatically exclude my MOC because I can't possibly build something comparable? Please note that this is not meant to attack anybody - but parts available does make a huge difference on ability.

2014 Fox 8x8x8
Phoxtane replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not to hijack this thread, but what's being said is that I could theoretically pull my car, if the motors are geared down enough? I only have two XLmotors, but I will have to try this now! -
I think that shortening the axles that the propellers are attached to would buy you a hair more height and/or flight time. Are there any propellers that Lego makes that are inverted? You may even be able to get away with one propeller, and use all four pullbacks geared up to spin the one axle. Then you get even more RPMs and less weight on the flying thing, and don't have to worry about counter-rotation.

Sounds like Rebrickable is what you want. I'm up to 11k bricks and it hasn't given me problems.

The thought came to me today as I was pulling away from a stop sign and my tires were spinning on ice... if a limited-slip differential is desirable in some situations, and a standard differential is useful in others, why not combine the functionality of the two? Is it even feasible, or even useful?

I am aware that banked curves are employed by the French group that likes to set the Lego train speed records, but I haven't seen any used in a more conventional set-up. I know that my Horizon Express likes to tip over in curves given the opportunity (and a long enough straight section to build up the speed...). Banked curves should solve this issue - one plate's height ought to give something like ten degrees, working from memory. Has anybody used these in their layout?

It's interesting to see how Lego train layouts grow organically into the space around them, whereas more conventional model trains are very much planned out with great precision.

LEGO special edition set - Show Off Your Design Skills!
Phoxtane replied to johnma1943's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The book is also relatively easy to find for free download on the internet, if it's not on the Lego website... so if there aren't any pieces unique to that set, a fairly average collection should be able to support it.- 8 replies

Concept Car Hubless Wheels
Phoxtane replied to raus's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Agreed, this car is extremely snazzy. I think it could be made to go faster if the medium-size or large pulley wheels were used? -

Executron reminds me of Agent Smith from the Matrix - especially with those sunglasses!

I do agree though - there's blue pins on the ends of the rotor arms in the second picture that I don't see in the first. Maybe the blue friction pins are being used as a way to pin the fishing line to the model? -

Not only that, I don't think that quadrotor setup pictured there is stable. The ones that RC hobbyists use, with the special frames and LiPo batteries and whatnot need a flight computer to keep them stable, otherwise they'd crash. There's no way for each prop to adjust its speed on that one. -

Well, I finally got rendering again! I had a bit of free time and figured it out. Hopefully, I'll get some pictures up soon And here it is! I discovered a while back it goes much faster if I add the outlines... and I get a nice effect as well [in my opinion, at least]. -
One of the members of my LUG who has more personal experience with this than I do told me that it's due to the fact that it is easier to sort into the bags a lot of 1x4 plates instead of a mix of 1x4 and 1x8 plates. What's interesting is that if you pay attention whilst building a set, you'll start to notice that this pops up more frequently than you'd think - I bet it's also part of the reason why the insides of a lot of sets have oddly colored pieces in places where you'd never see the colors!

I only got a small Star Wars set and 6177 Builders of Tomorrow set. Not much Lego this year... but I did get a Raspberry Pi!
