Hey, Ubutu is good as an OS, however comes with disadvantages as your well aware, i had an issue with Vista and Infran view, (a great batch image resize program...) i am guessing you have a bit of computer knowledge as your running Ubuntu, after seeing your predicumant i thouht back to mine... this site helped me, i did a quick search for you on their forum, success... follow this link and hopefully these guys can help you install and run Infranview (free download) on ubuntu! hope that helps

okay so this is just a sneek peek at the ships... minus one... the best is yet to come... before anybody says anything about the quality of the photo i must say this... it took it literally as i was walking out the door and it was on my phone... i think it looks good for a sneek peek, kind of like boats emerging from the mist... so, with out further ado i present to you the Amarda Billund minus the Meander (flagship)... we have from left to right A fishing/war vessel, (troops have gotta eat right?) - Jylland Then we have Wagrien, and in the middle Saelen, and Holsteen, then mirroring out to the right is Nyborg, and Fischer... Will post better pictures soon, along with the crew and officers.

Wow Legomilk said maybe 2009, if not mistaken he has contacts in high places... and has previously revealed that was to be two new themes in 2009... i think we may just get new pirates in 2009... we have had the return of sharks, crocs and the cutlass all we need now is a shako and a couple of hulls!!!! SlyOwl great to see your support for the idea! i am very excited to know that someone of your skill is interested! Captain Green Hair can i take it thats some interest shown?... raised base plates that i posted were to spark imaginations... i am well aware our members are capable of making much nicer scenery... When refering to previous MOC's of lego standard i had a few of your creations in mind... like those beauties in the comic... if your in, this idea might just work also please note i am well aware of the ambitious nature of the project, but the way i see it we are just doing what we normally do, with a different and united purpose, who cares really if Lego chooses our designs, we had fun making them... and just them looking at them would be reward enough in mt mind. Also we have done half the work for our selves... i am going to put poll results into excel spread sheets and post what data we have if and when enough interest is shown. EDIT: could an Admin please change the secondary title to "why wait for lego... 2009???" then delete this...

Okay, so we are all hoping Lego will release a Pirate range, even if it is just a release of all the old... however why must we sit around and wait for Lego to come up with the new sets, why don't we give them a helping hand and design some for them, our completion is a great starting point and some past MOC's are surely great great examples of what our members are capable of making... Some are so good we would expect them to be released by Lego What i am proposing will require great co-ordination and effort from all those who are interested in doing it, Mister Phes may well read this rolling his eyes at the sheer size of the project... then again he may just get behind it... but just imagine if what we create becomes the new sets, we have seen with other sets, a.k.a space skulls etc that Lego is open to the idea of fan made sets... and maybe the new Ambassador could take them to Lego... there is a great many resources out there for a new range to be created, very playable, very profitable... to get your brains ticking over here are a few things i have seen that get me exited of our prospects... highly optional suggestion but we could vote on creations and if we include them in the new theme, or vote on aspects like factions already through the polls we have a basis on what should and should not be created... and speaking of basis, here are some base plates that hold great potential. This could be a cavern like setting where pirates go to hide their treasure, yes i know your all thinking what i am thinking, thats too POTC 1... and yes it is a little but hey they don't have a license on caves with water access! Next is... Perfect for a harbor similar to the likes of what BlueBard has been producing, there is another base in Mclad but i can not find it on bricklink... Great for a jungle like river adventure, pirates on a raft battling against the islanders/ soldiers camp raided by islanders A sea side village with a lighthouse, for the pirates to plunder these sets are obviously just the large or medium sets... and that is with out any boats!!! All ready i have blown the myth out of the water that there is no more that Lego can do with pirates! as has Phred with his revolutionaries... check out his entries in competition if you missed them... not to mention the A-Z creation list we created... So there is the starting point to a great chance to create the new pirate world and some inspiration for thoughts and creativity... let the discussion and debate begin New Pirates Theme by US! ON!!!

144c Okay as i said in a post a little while ago i was MIA due to a wedding, being sick and then four, yes FOUR university assignments, and i will soon again go MIA for my Exams, but then holidays will hit and you can enjoy more of my cat loving antics then... personal message aside, here is the surprise i have been working on... Now we know why the pirates risk being eaten!!! treasure, blah treasure there going there for the women! This also explains why in SlyOwls mocs the pirates are always faced with EXTREME islander force... Come to get our women have ya, well we know how to use a spear or two our selves! ARGHHHHH.... lol don't quite yet know how to explain the cannibalism... maybe pirates just taste good, salty maybe...

I have mine facing backwards, i like to think of my ships as mored of the coast sitting out at sea, if the wind is blowing my sails would be up and the boat would move with the tides pulling against the anchor, which is at the front, i realize that wind does not always go the same direction as tide, DUH, but in my Lego world the weather SYSTEM is simple... i apologize for that horrible pun... i think you cant answer "which way the wind is blowing" as when you put you lego flags on did you go out side to check what way it was blowing? or did you just put it on facing the front or back... btw, if your ship is moving with the wind and your going the speed of the wind in its sails there is no wind! its like hot air ballooning, as the wind is moving you move with it (true, this is rare for a boat to do but can be done), also consider this, as you are moving along and sea spray comes over the side does it not get picked up by the wind and blown back towards you on the deck... just some thoughts, i am not an experienced sailor and just going on a few sailing trips i am no expert... Backwards for me as i consider it more aesthetic

Ahh top job, just what i needed to see after my little holiday from forum land... my hint is to add a little salt and pepper, those islanders can be a bit tasteless. I much prefer to grill them myself, brings out all sought of wondrous flavors, ohh and watch that necklace its a bit hard to chew threw.

I must say i have not, but one fell from a TV it was displayed on due to vibrations... And another was on the floor and my dog used it as a scratching post... you can imagine the grief of putting them back together. so is any one interested in an online game, i have holidays coming up and could work on some rules!

I was unsure so went and checked my thought were confirmed... The Lego BSB like the red sailed ship had a cannon to each hole aka four, while the SES had four cannons that could move to either side of the boat and had 8 holes. hope that answers your question

Yes that is something i had not considered in my review! the KIDS... AFOL would probably get hung up, (as shown by previous posts) on the fact it is not Lego, it may be considered immoral, and the colour slightly off... However for kids this product is a winner, although i cant remember any age warnings for small parts, kids that missed out on the pirate range first round (fingers crossed there is a second ;-)) would love these ships! i know i have enjoyed them and so far the only real complaint i can put passed it by product standards not branding or moral is the fact i cant use them for the contests!

I may have a somewhat useful suggestion, when taking photos of your work have a back ground that clearly identifies you, like a logo of sought, then also before uploading the picture put your logo digitally on the photo! Sure if they like they could spend hours trying to re edit your pictures to claim their own, but most likely it some little kid that knows little about it. I am not saying it fool proof but it may act as a deterrent to those that want to simply copy your pics. just my thoughts, and btw i think stealing MOCs is low and if any of our users are behind this kind of thing please stop it!

Quick sting him up from the rafters! ;-) nah i must admit if there was a both option i may have considered it over pirates, but i think that was the point, polarize the opinion... i loved those old castle sets, *thinks back to the days he dreamed of them*, hm as for the old dragon i mean this one so i thinkk it is the dragon flame one... i like it due to it being a kin to the croc and shark as well as other lego animals... oh btw i played wow for a good 6 months... i still think its more LOTR than WOW
