Heroica RPG - Quest#15: Hoisting Down the Jolly Roger
Khorne replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Eric's eyes widened and madly he looked at the grim and bloody scene unraveling. He grinned as he felt reinvigorated by Maurice's miracle, granted by the power of this Ennoc deity. The Barbarian took a deep breath and loudly shouted: "Well done everybody, keep it up! Let's trash these pirates and their furry companions!" He turned to Maurice and said: "Looks like Sol can be a worthy ally after all, but I'd still put my money on Wartan to takes us through this battle!" Eric took up position and raised Godricsleif the greatsword once more to strike at the Pirate Chef, who was already showing severe wounds inflicted with ice-cold signs of frostbite. Godricsleif revelled in the carnage and urged Eric to continue this bloodfeast. Battle order: Eric Erdathcath Ad-Hoh Christopher Hybros Maurice Eric will attack Pirate Chef from the front row. -

@Ecclesiastes: Wow, nice temple! I reminds me of the Borgund stave church in Norway. Immediatly recognizable as a Mitgardian building . -
I really like reading all of the character building that's being done. It's great to watch the characters grow. I especially like Haldor's story. He's so the opposite of Eric. Both are Nords, but Haldor doesn't quite appreciate the conservative (violent) Norse culture/habits while Eric understand no other culture or way of life than that of his own people. Unlike Haldor, who fled his homeland to escape the battle-dominated life there, Eric will try anything to be able to return there. I love it !

You don't have to quote the entire first post just to say you like it, MikeyB .I agree with Mikey, though, it does look nice. Perhaps a bit more mottling would've made the tower more interesting, but I can live with how it is now. Looks like one of those lone watchtowers you might see in Assassins Creed.

That's one awesome looking map! Did you hand-draw the entire thing yourself? It looks really good and must've taken you a lot of time. I second other people's opinions about the fact it looks somewhat like those Tolkien maps. Again, great stuff! Can't wait to se it coloured or finished. As for a font, maybe Elric could be a good one? I use the font for Nordic stuff. It not Westernized runes or actual runes, but it still has a Nordic feel, IMO. -

Recoiling from the previous hit Eric received, he missed out in his second attack, too. Not backing down, Eric swung Godricsleif at his enemy once more, hoping to inflict some serious injury. Eric will attack Pirate Chef from the front row. The battle order remains the same: Battle order: Eric Ad-Hoh Christopher Hybros Erdathcath Maurice OoC: Sorry for not posting during the previous round. I was in Germany for a Rammstein concert and I thought I'd be back sooner. -

Eric grins as he unsheaths Godricsleif, his mighty greatsword. A cold aura surrounded the blade. Eric shouted the battle order as he prepared to charge the enemy head-on. "Everyone, pick a single target so they don't get any free hits on us!" Battle order: Eric Ad-Hoh Christopher Hybros Erdathcath Maurice Eric will attack the Pirate Chef from the first row. -

"Looks like the Hinckwell crate mystery is solved after all. I had a hunch the Shadeaux hadn't taken them!" Eric divides the loot amongst the party members. All of them receive 2 bottles of rum. One mead goes to Ad-Hoh and one to Maurice. Eric decides to keep the last bottle of sweet mead for himself (unless someone else wants it badly). The party prepares itself to head into the kitchen, ready for possible trouble. -

"Hmmm, Hinckwell crates in a pirate hideout. Hahaha, Hybros, maybe these are the stolen crates we had to find during our Quest to the Shadeaux warehouse? Most likely not, though. Still, I'll have a peek at them." Eric said as his eyes adjusted to the dimness of the room. Eric will investigate the Hinckwell crates. -
Okay, thanks for the fast reply . As for the Quests, take your time. Real life is more important than an internet game. No need to apologize .

@Sandy: I have a question about this, too. Do advanced classes need to buy the extra equipment they can use, or do they receive it when training for a new class? E.g.: do Berserkers (or any other mixed class with a knight) get a shield? Do non-mages who advance to an ether-based class get their gem for free or do they need to acquire it somewhere else first?
-
Nice MOC! The SNOT build and various details such as the crane and offset stones look great. It reminds me of the Egypt's Siege Workshop in Age of Mythology .
-
The advanced classes look awesome! Can't wait to chose one. I'm seriously doubting between Battle-Mage, Raider or Berserker. Luckily, I still have some time left before I will be able to go the the training room and make the decision. Still, great work !

"Apparently the forest isn't such a waste of time after all. I think we can use a pickaxe to cut open the hole again. Hopefully, we won't make too much noise and disturb those pirates in their cabin." -

"Let's sneak towards the forest then" Eric whispered as he motioned towards the thick forest. -

"Everybody, be silent!" Eric said in a hushed voice and gestured the others to be quiet. Hopefully, the pirates would attribute the noise to their drunken imagination running wild. "Since all of you are so eager to check out the forst, maybe we should try creeping towards it. Still, I think we should head to the cave entrance right away. Raise your hand if you want to silently sneak towards the forest as soon as the pirate's gone." -

As Eric's companions voiced their ideas, memories flashed before Eric's eyes. Visions of burning villages and hapless defenders falling to the vicious blades of the furious Northmen. Setting buildings ablaze broke the moral of the enemy: they lost everything belonging to them. This mission wasn't a mere raid, however and required more finesse. Putting cabins on fire would only alert the pirates of their presence. Stealth was required, even though it wasn't the Barbarian's preferred approach. Godricsleif longed for blood and Eric was eager to test the strength of these "pirates". It would have to wait. "As you have pointed out, setting fire to the shack would only alert the others. Maybe we could bar the door with a wooden log or the likes? It would keep the pirates busy for a while, in case they want out." -

Eric smiled. Apparently, luck was on his side for once. He pocketed his winnings as he saw the Grotto loom at the horizon. Keeping in mind Attina's orders, Eric voiced his opinion. "I agree, we should check the shack first. Who knows, maybe we'll find something of use in there. I wouldn't go through the forest, however. Since we only have limited time, I think it's best to use the back entrance through the cave instead of wandering through a thick forest. In my opinion, that would only cost us time." -

OoC: Whoops, looks like I really am bad at gambling. Thanks for pointing out my mistake, everybody . "Another 5 on water! It's bound to turn up sometime. Or no, wait, I'm feeling lucky. Make that bet 7 gold!" Eric grinned and hoped water would turn up this time. -

Eric decided to join in on the fun. "5 gold on water, fire and earth each" He hoped he'd at least win some money or that a lot of would would be gained during the quests because his finances were melting like ice for the sun. -

Eric was glad to be at sea again. The Bonaparte vessel they were sailing with was a fine vessel, nevertheless, Eric longed to sail a Norse drakkar once more. The proximity of the sailor to the, often icy, water made the travelling via longboat a thrilling experience. Boat, crew and ocean were one, wind and water uniting them. The tall Nord was leaning against the railing of the Sunflower, arms crossed over his chest. He eyed the scene on the deck attentively and saw how some of his partymembers were going to try their hand at some gambling game. Eric would sit out the first round, maybe he could join in later. Gambling wasn't his forte, but he enjoyed the tension the games brought with them. He had tried his hand at such games several times but Luko never seemed to be on his side. Still, an easy chance for money is as good as any. -

Pleased with the answers he had gotten, Eric was ready to leave and go search this wanton pirate. He turned to his companions and asked if they had anymore questions to pose. If not, the party was ready to head for the ships. Eric assured Nemo he had picked the right people for the job. -

O, how good it had felt to be at sea agian once more, even though the boat trip had been relatively short. Eric couldn't wait to see the rag-tag band of outlaws the party would be up against. He longed to test his improved Godricsleif, bringing icy death to those who stood between the Nord, his companions and their goals. Eric had only one inquiry to make before departing towards Jolly Roger's hideout. "Do you have any maps available of the hideout? Or are there any important terrain features we're ought to know?" The Barbarian felt ready. He was happy to have been picked on this Quest. He'd have the head of the pirate whose silly nom de guerre defiled the pirating trade for any normal sea raider. OOC: I think my health should be 20 (12+8), not 19. I know I put 19 in my signature, but I forgot to correct it when reaching a new level. I corrected my mistake now .
