Eric raised an eyebrow, his smirk sinking away. His pale face was again devoid of emotion. "I don't take kindly to insults, dumbom. Beware, Rogue..." Eric angrily stared at Atramor, refusing to blink. Had his cold blue eyes been able to shoot lightning, they would've certainly roasted Atramor. Suddenly, the semi-angry, but definitely greatly annoyed look on Eric's face cleared up and a smile once again started to circle his mouth. He chuckled and murmured something Norse again: "Jag gillar dig, Rogue. Feisty and fighting fit. Mitt namn är Eric. What's your name?"
-
Eric read the names of the other Adventurers that signed up to help Mack Donauld. One was a one-eyed archer, while the other was a posh knight, who had a great affinity for dogs. The very thought of him teaming up with a cripple and a dog-lover displeased him greatly. "I thought this was a guild for warriors seeking renown, not some foster home for the sick or a shelter for lost dogs and their equally lost owners," Eric thought, being his utterly angered self again. "I need a drink if I ever want to get through this." He turned around and walked to the bar. Not really wanting to spend his time talking to the others, nor being interested in the woes and stories of the people there, Eric sought himself a solitary chair. It was to no avail, however, as the bar had become ever more crowdier, new Adventurers coming in at a steady pace. He picked himself a stool next to some lunatic wearing a gigantic stupid hat. To make matters worse, Eric found out he had a pet-chicken. It upset him even greater when he noticed the guy talking to the chicken. Eric rolled his eyes and gestured the maid. He ordered a beer and listened in on the conversations of the others. "I hear this is the place to go for news. Or rumours. Or to find an eyeball in your stew, but that's another story. Could I have one of those? Preferably one of the former two?" his big-hatted, chicken-talking neighbour said to the Orc bartender. Eric turned around and bluntly replied, with a thick Nordic accent: "I don't know about the eyeball stew, but I hear the roasted chicken is great here" Satisfied, he grinned and drank the beer Scheherazede had brought him. EDIT OOC I don't want to sound rude to anybody, the "character-bashing" is merely done to reinforce the rude and arrogant image I want to create for Eric (though, he's more than that you'll find out )

Shoot! Didn't think it would be that apparent . Yeah, I based him on the True Blood character, but I thought the references I snuck in were more subtle than they apparently are. I'll give my Heroica Eric my own touch, off course . Just to clear things up, my character is not a vampire. I only described him as being paler than the others, because he comes from the North, which in my mind is a cliché version of Scandinavia with lots of snow, little sunlight and short days (I know Scandinavia is not really like that). The "warmblood" monniker he gives the others is not a reference to him being (Un)dead, rather he means to denote those whose blood is warm by living in a (more) sunny country/place.

Great job! The Vault door is INSTANTLY recognizable and those VaulTech Guards are spot on. Well done using only official LEGO parts ! Can't wait to see pictures of the entire build, instead of these teaser pics.

The doors leading to the Heroica hall opened with a creaky noise. Sunlight rolled in through the entrance, momentarily blinding those nearby. An unknown figure surged forward out of the light. The newcomer was rather tall, towering over most of the other Adventurers by at least half a head's length. His build was broad, though his facial features were rather sharp. His chin was covered with a short stubble, long blond-golden hair flowed beside his head, from underneath it his cold icy eyes scanned the hall, piercing the hearts of several bystanders who hurridly looked away. The tall man stepped forward, with slow but great and confident strides. His chainmail armour made a tinkling noise. The man's skin was relatively pale compared to that of the others guests. He was clad in thick furs, which were decorated with intricately detailed metal clasps. At his side hung an equally well-crafted greatsword and a heavy battle-axe was slung around his body. The newcomer had everything of a cliché Viking, a people living high up North and who were feared and loathed, infamous raiders and great warriors. "Varmblodar..." the newcomer murmured in his native tongue, nearly incomprehensible to the others. His demeanour was thought of by the other Adventurers to be as cold as the climate of the North from whence he came, as not a simple smile addorned his face. The newcomer's name was Eric, a barbarian warrior hailing from the North. It's not often one of the Norse-folk venture down South in peace, but the initial surprise that got to the other Adventurers quickly wore off and they continued on with their own business. Eric continued to walk down the hall, straight to the bar. He ordered a beer and downed it in one breath. He ordered another and strolled to the Quest board, his mouth turned to a smirk at the thought of the great fighting awaiting him. He would regain his honour or he would die trying. It did not matter, he could not fail. "Det här ser intressant." Eric said as he read the description to the Mack Donauld Quest. Eric would like to sign up for Quest #1: Harvest Time Eric, Level 1 Barbarian 30 year old Male Norse Human Power: 4 Health: 8/8 Gold: 10 Inventory: Potion; Godricsleif, a Great Sword (WP: 3); a bottle of Mead

I just love this part, really subtle . This looks really great, a lot of thought and effort have been visibly put into this. I think the accompanying MOCs are well done as well (gotta love the quest board ). Great job on this, Sandy! I already have a character in mind, I'll post it shortly in the corresponding thread. This'll hopefully be great fun !

As others have already stated, finding this set a $40 is a steal. Really good deal! I bought this set five or six years ago on Bricklink and paid $80 or $90 dollars for it, but unlike yours, it didn't include original instructions (they were copies, but I was informed about that, it wasn't a scam ) or box. Still, it was totally worth all the money. I still have it built and it's one of the most precious sets in my collection . Those classic knights are just to die for and the castle itself is a real beauty, one of the best ever made.

I hope this isn't considered necroing (the topic's only a month old ), but I just saw this creation and I think it's a pity I only got such limited response, because this MOC just oozes personality; it's like Deadwood's Al Swearengen 'Gem saloon' in space! The shape and colouring is great and I just love the robot playing the piano. The only thing bothering me, though, is that it kind of looks more like an underwater building or some bar in the dunes. I don't really know what could be changed to do away with this, maybe changing the colour of the baseplate? A really classy looking MOC .

Is the name of Baron Baloo influenced by Jungle Book, per chance (his insignia being a bear and all) ?

Sorry, my bad. I misread your post and thought you said you had already finished them over the weekend. I kind of like the Endless Waltz versions, though, but maybe they'd be a bit too difficult to make as LEGO models, because they're much bigger and more complex than their original counterparts? Can't wait to see the others you're making .

Ooooh, I really like this custom . Made me think of the movie 'True Grit' in some way, don't really know why ('cept the obvious Western connection, of course). The cigar and spurs are a nice touch! The decals are well done, they look real professional. They really make the guy look gritty and Western-like. Maybe a scar or two would've given more credibility to him having been in the Civil War and being a manhunter. I presume the decals are waterslides? My only critique is the roughness of the hat, it kinda takes away from the overall professionalism of the custom . But as I've said, terrific MOC and nice (short) background story.

A pity you couldn't finish this MOC . The shape of the towers alone already looks magnificent, I can only imagine how awesome the entire finished castle could've been.
-
Ah, okay, I admit I didn't know that . Your explanation makes the MOC more credible for me, thank you! Still, ramparts would look great, like blueandwhite said. I think they would add to the realism of the MOC, yet not destroy the "antique" look you were going for.

I used to love Gundam Wing when I was a kid! In fact, I loved the show that much I got all of the episodes, so I can watch it again any time I want to. I got to say, your minis are incredible. They are instantly recognizable (well, they are to those that know the show). Have you made them all yet? I can't seem to find any more pics in your photostream . I'd love to see you make a Deathscythe or Epyon one . Will you be making the Endless Waltz versions as well?
-
That's a great MOC you got there ! I really like the Asian architectural style you got going on, plus the fact that it's set in the snow makes this creation stand out. My favourite aspects are the detailed interiors (I'm a sucker for interiors ) and the icy river. There's not really much I can say to improve this MOC, as it's already a beauty to look at.
-
Lovely castle/manor! It's a great build packed full with details. I like the mottling you used on the walls and the fact that you kind of used the same colour scheme LEGO uses for their Lion Knights, so it fits right in with LEGO sets . My favourite detail of all is probably the Forestman winking at the towngirl . EDIT Aren't the arrow slits (that's what I presume they are) supposed to be higher? Doesn't really make a lot sense to me to have the slits that low .
-
That's a great MOC! I really like the wall you've built, but as blueandwhite pointed, maybe it would benefit from being reinforced or enlarged. Scone is supposed to be an important town, right, so surely they would've surrounded the town with a stone wall or a big, reinforced wooden wall. But that's my only gripe, overall I really like the MOC and all its details, such as the turtle and innovating roofing techniques . I bet you're eagerly awaiting the new 'Highlander' Collectible Minifig aren't you ?

A new parts shipment arrived today and I was able to build up the rear of the ship. Here's some pictures, more will come. I took these before leaving for work, so please ignore the background (i.e. my bed ). Rear curve, light bley slopes will be replaced by bricks in a matching colour. Image of the side. Holes are for the oars. Bird's eye view of the rear. As I said, I try to make some more pictures for you. I will lengthen the ship, but I still haven't received my new hull pieces yet . Stay tuned!
-
Will you be posting WIP shots of your Spanish galleon, too? I'd love to see how you build these .
-
Brickdoctor, thanks for the compliment. I really appreciate it . I quickly whipped up another sail design, this time based on the fictional AoM Atlantean "bireme". It's also an early WIP, so there's no shading or any details there. Behold: Mast configuration would be the same as in the game, i.e. 2 masts. What are your opinions, thoughts? Realistic "classic" sail design or fictional "Age of Mythology" sails?
-
Wow! I love the ship you've built. I already looked terrific in the WIP thread, but the added sails and rigging have really made it even more realistic and stand out. I'd love to make a galleon like yours myself one day, but right now I don't have the pieces nor money to do so . Can't wait for the detailed pictures! EDIT I just went through your flickr gallery and I find myself even more amazed at the amount of detail you put into this. You truly are a masterful builder .
-
I'll most likely just print the design out on paper. I wouldn't know how to make a transfer to iron it on cloth . Yep, the sail design is based on the one you posted. My design is not finished yet, though, still need to add details and shading. Thanks for the compliments . Yeah, I'll be making the ship longer. I've ordered some more hull parts, but it'll take a while for them to get here .
-
Thanks! The colours I used are based on the colours LEGO uses in their Atlantis sets (such as the Shark Castle), plus it also looks good .Also, I ordered the parts to make the ship longer, because as many of you have stated, it might end up looking really stubby otherwise. That's a great idea, actually. I checked BL and those Jabba's Sail Barge aren't that expensive, so I'll give it a try . To me, the tennisplayer legs just represent the long tunic the Roman soldiers wore, not necesarily the pteryges (although they'd work for that, too). About the boots, some early Roman troops wore ankle-high boots in an off-white-ish colour, so the boots aren't really that out of place (plus, it's fantasy; everything is possible! ).As for the Phrygian cap, it is indeed the Garden Gnome's cap as pointed out by HumanPackMule . EDIT Didn't want to double-post, so here is a preliminary design I made for the main sail: Cancer is Latin for 'crab', so I figured the Atlantean crab would look nice on the sail . NEW EDIT Should I go with the 'classic' trireme/bireme sail design, or give my boat sails like the Age of Mythology one (the double-masted, four-sailed boats)?
-
That's an amazing ship you got there! The fact that strikes me the most is that it's possible to build such a fine looking ship for only £80 . Does it have an interior? I'm guessing no, since CGH's method for building ships kinda restricts any possibility of detailed interiors.

Biremes didn't really have two tails or a split front in reality. The first picture I showed (which I'm basing my MOC on) comes from a PC game called 'Age of Mythology', it's a fantasy game and Atlantis is one of its factions. All of Atlantis' units are highly fantastical, for example the Heavy Bireme unit. My own Atlantis faction is also very fantasy-like as I try to blend real-life Romans and Greek in with LEGO's fantasy Castle line, so I wanted the ship to be a bit over the top as well, just like LEGO's ships . As for the oars, I'll be using the same set-up as the oars in 7018 Viking Ship, meaning I'll take one of these and add an oar, so I get really long oars . Yeah, I have been thinking about making the ship a bit longer, because now, it's width is too much compared to its length. The reason I only used 4 hull pieces is because I wanted it to be about the same size as the Viking longship and the Orc Warboat LEGO sets. As for the soldiers, I know these are Roman helmets and Roman-esque equipment. I based my Atlanteans on Romans, because I try to follow "offical" LEGO background as much as possible and on the Atlantis website, a Roman-looking soldier can be seen in the background: I have some of my own background history/stories about the Atlantean army. You can read it in my flickr stream. Thanks for the comments everybody !
