  1. What's not to like about his MOC here? Everywhere you look, there's something interesting to see. I love the way you made the waterfall, the use of plates placed like that gives an interesting texture to the rocks. I also really like your teepees. They're a great-looking brick-built alternative to the old cloth ones LEGO once produced. The way you built the totem is also amazing. Great use of the PQ wings! And lastly, the wagon also looks really good. You managed to capture the cloth look of the canvas really good in LEGO bricks . There's really nothing not to like here .
  2. Oooh, this looks interesting. I always love a good evolution MOC, especially one that medieval-inspired. This one here is one of my favourites, but I'm sure yours will pan out great, too. You can't really compare the two, since you're going for a city's evolution and he did a castle one. The build is simple, but all of the minifigs give it its something "special". It makes the MOC seem "alive" to me, like as if they're actually building themselves a new town . Can't wait for part two!!
  3. Great build! The scale of the Wall isn't really that realistic, I think (I'm not sure, but I always thought it was bigger when seeing pictures of it), but the way you built it really captures the spirit of the Wall. A long and winding construction following the varying topography of the hills. The army is nice, too . Is there a reason why Aang is holding a lollypop, though? Is it supposed to represent something Chinese from those days or is it really just that, a lollypop?
  4. That is simply amazing! The details are incredible and make this building look so real. The guild crests on the wall, opening wine cellar and closing shutters are a nice touches and certainly add to the realism too. The angled build is also something spectacular, something which I haven't seen done a lot before. It must've been really difficult to achieve that look. Truly fantastic work !
  5. I think it's the best thing to do if we want to sneak in the compound unnoticed. The Questgiver specifically ordered us to bring some Rogues to get us sneaking in. So, I also think one of you Rogues should pick the lock. And if that doesn't work, maybe we could look for some open window we could climb through?
  6. Eric read the announcements on the Quest board. He was glad he had chosen to sign up for the second Quest as well, since Mack Donauld apparently wasn't interested in his services. When he read the names he felt somewhat sad that he would not be fighting alongside Tesni or Jess, but at least there were some other familiar faces in his party. He smirked. "Looks like I'm with the kyckling-älskare and the gamla sothöna* on this Quest. Let's see if they live up to the expectations" Eric thought. He read the names again, this reading the descriptions too. "Det finns ett bra utbud av personer i min grupp. Rufindel kommer att bli en bra ledare.**" He turned around and made his way through the crowd, heading towards the inn, once more. A slight hint of happiness and relief could be noticed on his complexion. Some day, he would be able to return North. * kyckling-älskare: chicken-lover (Atramor Gibbins) gamla sothöna: old coot (Lord Boomingham) **There is a good range/variety of people in my group. Rufindel will be a good leader.
  7. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it ! Oooh, so that's why my hinges couldn't properly line up with the rest of the ship. Now I get it. I did look at your tutorial when building the rear section, but I didn't figure I had to build one stud out in order for the hinges to align/curve around the hull correctly. I used the regular width of the hull piece (without building one stud out) and the hinges just wouldn't line up, so I raised the whole hinges part with one plate. That left me with a gap, so I had to fill it with tiles, thus giving it the look it has now. I'll see if I'll go back and change it, or if I'll just leave it as it is. I'm not an expert in nautical terms, but what's a rudder with a whipstick? I tried to google it for pictures, but I couldn't really seemed to find a picture to enlighten me on this. Do you have a picture per chance, or the Dutch translation? I will give the ship rudders like those seen on this ship: One oar on each side of the ship.
  8. The heavy doors of the Heroica Hall opened once more, this time it was the Norse Barbarian Eric who came in. With big steps he carved a way through the gathered crowd of Adventurers, pushing aside the occasional bystander who wouldn't let him pass. Eric had left his heavy fur cloak, mail armour and leather belts at the inn, preferring a more comfortable outfit to come drink something. After all, the Quests weren't slated to begin before tommorow. On his back, the greatsword Godricsleif was slung. He would never leave his trusty companion alone. Today was the day the names of those chosen for a Quest would be announced. Eric was eager for adventure and bloodshed, sitting around was nothing for him. He wanted action and his sword craved blood. "Om Gudarna kommer det, kommer jag att väljas*," he thought to himself and ordered a meal. *If the Gods will it, I will be chosen
  9. 'Let It Ride' by Triggerfinger (a Belgian band. They are really, really good live performers) of them covering Duffy's 'Mercy' together with another great Belgian singer: Selah Sue. A great coupling IMO. At 6:10 another musical pairing plays, also Belgians, but I like them less, not my style of music. Here's another great Belgian band, one of my favourites. These guys are about my age and they're so talented. If I'm not mistaken, they're touring in the US right now.
  10. Nice little MOC you got there . The build, graphic elements and look of the Old Man have definitely improved over your last MOC. The story of the old guy, overwhelming and killing his opponents in a bloody combat reminds me of Zatoichi. Zatoichi is a fictional Japanese character, a blind masseur/retired samurai who travels around the country to help defenselss peasants. He kills all opposition with his blade, which is hidden in his walking cane. Here's a good movie about the character. It's the only movie I've seen about Zatoichi, but apparently there's hundreds of movies and stories out there about him. It also made me think of the 'Ninjai: the Little Ninja' flash series. You can view all chapters for free here. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out, maybe it might even inspire you !
  11. Here's a link to a thread about what I meant. This thread is about the PotC figures, but there's supposed to be one about the regular Pirates line figures too, but I can't seem to find it. There's no explanation given for teh colour issues in the thread I linked to, but there are some pictures to illustrate what I mean .
  12. As I've already said, it came out harsher than intended. Didn't these and these torsos made in China turn out pink? The white printing was of such poor quality, it seemed like it was pink instead of white. If I recall correctly, I think they were made in China (I could be mistaken, though).
  13. This is so good . Easily the best one you've made so far in this series. Although I don't feel like it's really a conclusion since everybody knows Vampires have to be staked throught the heart with a wooden stake in order for them to die (hmm, bad choice of words when it comes to Vampire ). Maybe we'll see how the Vampire rises again, slowly regaining power? Anyway, the castle looks really great. The colourscheme is simple, but it does the job. The use of only dark bley and light bley, while looking very monotonous in many MOCs, is well executed here. It really conveys the dark, gothic looks you probably strived for. The minifigs are once again perfectly positioned and parts well chosen. Really, there's not much to say except "job well done ". I truly hope this isn't the real end of this series. I love the combination of MOCs and good background stories. Or will you be starting a new series instead, focussed on other characters? EDIT I forgot: the "Monster In the Deep" is really awesome too!
  14. Wow, that's incredible . I can only imagine how great it is to build with so many parts ready at your disposal. Each time I ever want to build a big MOC, I either have to make a lot Bricklink Orders to complete it (and living in Belgium doesn't make things easier, I have to order my parts from all over the world, since we don't have those huge Bricklink stores like in the US or maybe even Germany), OR I simply have to take my MOC down again due to lack of parts or money to buy parts .
  15. Whoops, I blame my lack of knowledge of proper English terms for my mistake here. I wasn't even aware insourcing was a word . I was aware, however, that the lower wages are indeed largely the reason for TLG to go to China. But I also thought they had lower quality demands for their factories there, so things like the Collectible Minifigs could be made as cheap as possible (and stuff like the Battlepacks or Magnets, you know the stuff that's not really LEGO's core business). Apparently, I am wrong here as well. My apologies. My wording may have been a bit harsh admittedly, but IMO I feel a lot of products made in China are inferior to things made here. I do admit that they produce and make some very good stuff there, as well. In my statement I was merely referring to the LEGO produced there and I really believe that LEGO originating in China doesn't really stand up to the LEGO made in Europe, the US or whatever nation. Maybe it has got to do with those manufacturing laws you and Aanchir mentioned. I agree with you on all three points you made here . I also think the neck printing will be eventually discarded. I mean, what purpose does it serve anyway? It's only a waste of precious manufacturing to print the necks. So if they scrap it, it will save them time and money. I wouldn't really put the lack of neck printing in the category "low quality minifigs". I wasn't aware that major colour issues were known before LEGO put the Chinese factories to use. It's been a while since I last bought LEGO and I assumed it had to do with China. My apologies if my reaction come over as somewhat harsh or ignorant, I should've argumentated my position better .
  16. OOC: It's fantasy, there's no specific date. Let the man enjoy his chocolate if he wants to . It didn't exist in the real world in the middle ages, but this is Heroica, it's fantasy. Maybe in the world of Heroica, chocolate is made by the Elves, who knows? .
  17. I've been watching this thread for a while now and finally decided to post. All I can say is: WOW ! It's simply amazing! All the those tiny details you put in... Your creation really looks 'alive'. Can't wait to see this beast finished! I have a question (maybe it has been asked before): did you have all these bricks lying around or did you order them specifically for this?
  18. Great scene you got there! The use of different faces for each of the Forestmen really adds to the atmosphere, just like the overall attention to detail. My favourite part is the guy looking angrily at the drunk . The lamp made using an Islander headpiece looks real good, as well. I haven't seen that done before .
  19. Yep, the colour differences can be attributed to the fact that the Collectibles are mostly Chinese-made. LEGO intended this line to be as cheap as possible (understandable, of course) and thus outsourced to China to cut production costs. But as we all now, stuff made in China is crap, so that's why the plastic is duller. I had the same "problem" with my Series 1 Ninja. The colour issue is also noticeable with the normal LEGO bricks, especially Dark Red and Reddish Brown. You can clearly view differences between bricks that are supposedly the same colour. EDIT Nice gang of mobsters, btw .
  20. I second this statement . Well, you're not obliged to post in the Heroica Hall topic. It's just a thread where Adventurers can come and talk, getting to know each other. That's it, nothing more. It's just some fun in between Quests. I don't think it's a place to start posting other stories taking place outside the Hall (except referring to an Inn, or so). As I've said, it's just a thread for a bit of fun. If you don't want to share stories or don't know what to ask of the other charactes, you can also just sit and wait 'till a Quest starts . I hope I made my point clear. I don't want to criticize anybody, but that how I feel about the matter .
  21. Yeah, it's meant to be some sort of transport ship, transporting soldiers ready to attack some coastal village. The ship would sail in convoys with "normal" triremes to protect it. I'll give the ship some protection, too, though. I'm thinking about putting up some ballistas to scare off enemy vessels. Plus, the front (with the unloading doors and stuff) can come off pretty easy, so it's not a lot of work to put on a classic trireme bow if I ever wanted the ship to depict such a ship. I heavily based it on the Age of Mythology ship, indeed, but I really wanted it to look realistic, like something like this could've actually have existed. So in order to achieve that, I blended in some elements you can find on a real trireme. Thanks for the comments !
  22. "Ja, I can order a soup for you. But don't think I'll become your errand boy" Eric jokingly said and ordered some soup for the old fellow when Scheherazade brought them the beers Eric had ordered previously. "Skål" Eric said and raised his glass of beer in the air, proposing a toast. He was stalling time. He never did like to talk about himself and his past much, but on the other hand, he couldn't just leave the old chap waiting for a story that never came. Thought's were racing through Eric's mind. He took a sip of his beer and started to talk. "As you already know, I come from a place in the high North. You Southerners call it Nordland, I believe. In our language we call it Vårtland. It's a kingdom in name only, really, most of its power lies in the hands of the jarls and fogdar, people you know by the names of earls and sheriffs. They rule parts of Vårtland in name of the King. My land is very mountainous and most of us prefer to live by the sea, as it is our main source of income. There is little arable land, so it often comes to violent clashes between the different shires and marks of the earls and sheriffs. It's also one of the reasons we raid other people. We take that which we can't grow or obtain by ourselves. We always do love ourselves a good fight. Combat let's a man show his worth. The weak perish and the strong grow, all while pleasing our great gods." Eric said, glancing at his precious blade. "But what about you? What's your story?" Lord Boomingham inquired. He was paying so much attention he didn't even notice he was spilling his soup. "You have to have some story? Everybody has some background" "I come from the shire called Götarlän. My fogde is called Frodo. He is young and sometimes hot-headed, but he is a fine warrior and has proven his worth on the battlefield time and time again" Eric stopped. He felt tired. The Norse Barbarian stood up and slung his sword on his back. "You are leaving?" Lord Boomingham asked "But, but,..., you haven't finished your story yet!" Eric smiled. "You'll hear more of my story when I feel like telling it. Right now, I am too tired and in dire need of some sleep. We will meet again and then I might tell you more" Eric bid his companions goodbye and turned around, ready to leave. With sure steps he strode back to the inn.
  23. Oh, I'm sorry. It's been a while since I last saw the series. I did a quick google search, but I can't seem to find anything on Wing Zero . Which one was that again?
  24. Eric was surprised when Lord Boomingham suddenyl showed up at his table. Eric remembered the man as a boaster, telling nothing but tall tales desperately trying to impress the women, but now he appeared to be more serious. Eric changed his mind about the man and started to appreciate him. A man that loved the finer aspects of life, but who wasn't as hot-headed as most of the people here seemed to be. "Please, join us," Eric said, gesturing an empty chair, "sorry to dissapoint you, but I'm not much of a story-teller. Still, I can give you some information about my home if you'd like. Is there something in particular you wanted to know?" Eric asked. The Nord raised his arm and signalled Schehrazade to come. "More beer?" she asked. "Beer indeed. For me and my companions"
  25. OOC: If you're referring to Tesni, I don't think she ever left. According to me, she's still in the saloon.
