LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion
Dorayaki replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The character looks nice. A robot girl isn't a bad idea, but it seems that TLG is too lazy and makes her like the Clockwise Robot with lipstick, instead of a totally redesigned print and a long skirt piece. -
Minifigures Couples Female/Male Hero/Villain
Dorayaki replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Sorry I'm an Easterner so I'm not familiar with some Western words and tales. I mean Queen in that case. I don't know if female dwarf exists, like Entwives from LOTR. But since female dwarves are not in common folktales, thier chance to be in this series is little. For example, in Japanese history and folktales, female samurais are much less known and heard than female ninjas. Only modern original works can make such a character, like Nya. If TLG really make a Samurai Woman, she would be more like a cosplayer. I wanted to suggest some statue or famous artworks, but most suggestions are not available as you think. Maybe Lady Liberty is the only symbolic statue that can be a minifigure. -
Minifigures Couples Female/Male Hero/Villain
Dorayaki replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Not all minifigures need a counterpart I think (Plumber Villainess???). It's more important if the minifigures can be popular and much different from its predecessor, not just a clone with same pieces and different coloring. For example, a Zoo Chief instead of a male Zookeeper would be more clear, unless you just want to give the Zookeeper a different mini animal and it works. Others like Mrs Claus can't work much since she herself isn't notable enough or more than the Holiday Elf. My ideas: Series 1 Cheerleader - Cheer Guy : cheerleaders need some guys to work with. So for the red rival? Cowboy - Shepherd. What about the licensed one? Ninja - Ninja Girl: for those who wanted a heroine in Ninjago series / Japanese Princess: the princess should be diffrent from the Kimono Girl who doesn't come from Japanese royalty. However, there are already four members in Japanese line and these ideas wouldn't appear in a short time. Tribal Hunter - Tribal Princess Zombie - Ghost Lady, maybe a new long hair that covers one eye and looks like Sadako from Japanese novels. Series 3 Baseball Player - Catcher, Coach, Softball Girl, Umpire Race Car Driver - Race Queen, Driving Lady Series 4 Artist - Model Ice Skater - Ice-skating Man, a dancing partner for ladies. Kimono Girl - Kabuki Actor, but same as Ninja said. Punk Rocker - Keytar Player Sailor - Sailor Skirt Girl, maybe a Japanese student or another ship member. Series 5 Boxer - Boxing Girl Evil Dwarf - Villainess Dwarf: female dwarf are really rare in both license and original Lego themes. Ice Fisherman - Icelandic Girl Royal Guard - Royal Empress : the modern type empress of England. Series 6 Butcher - Chef Flamenco Dancer - Flamenco Guy, like the Ice-skating Man one. Lady Liberty - Mona Lisa, Vénus de Milo Series 7 Bride - Groom: don't make him look like the the Waiter or Gangster. A white tuxedo in the same style with Bride's would be better. Computer Programmer - Hacker Evil Knight - Evil Princess Grandma Visitor - Big Bad Wolf: but TLG would probably just call one wolf tribe member from the Chima story. Same for seven kids and three pigs. Jungle Boy - Jungle Girl: make her fresh and agile, or she'd be something like Cavewoman. Series 8 Businessman - Office Lady, Boss, Secretary Thespian - Soprano Series 9 Judge - Lawyer, Prosecutor Pirate Captain -Pirate Villianess, perhaps based on Anne Bonny and reused the Fortune Teller's hairpiece. Policeman - Policewoman Roman Emperor - Roman Princess, another love rival with Pharaoh and Egyptian Queen. Waiter - Hotel Maid, a traditional maid version diffrent from the American Waitress in series 11. Series 10 Warrior Woman - other historical female worriors based on Jehanne de Montfort or Hua Mulan. Paintball Player - Paintball Rival Girl: but maybe only if this career is popular enough among Lego fans. Mr. Gold - Ms. Silver : if CMF makes it to series 20, it's very likely to happen again. Toy Soldier - if using Nutcracker as its reference, other welcome choices are Sugarplum Fairy, Vivandière and Clara. Series 11 Jazz Musician - Saxophone, Trumplet, Drum Player -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion
Dorayaki replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think the whole series is outstanding even though there are reused counterpart. And many fairytale elements are nice. I'm not sure about Grandma. She doesn't look very good with Starlet's hair, since she should be a traditional woman that has a granddaughter with a red riding hood and a barcode-headed husband. If she's alone in a City set, I would be more willing to get her. Though the Jazz Player has a tribute, I worry that he would become one of the Gangsters without his jazz. The Diner Waitress is very cool, but I'd like to see a lady that works with the Waiter who seems to be from a luxury hotel. -
The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Dorayaki replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Well, yeah. Excluding TV cartoons which aren't original but based on existed themes, the original stories given by other Lego media (video game, direct-to-DVD) can only be known by consumers. The movie story can be more comprehensively known and used in commercial merchandise. I simply think since there would be 17 sets for this movie story (though no knowing if promotional minor sets count), other stories can at least get more than one set. Though offtopic, I think the City Undercover game code didn't play a good role in Lego City products. City sets mostly used generic minifigures and scenes, but maybe Undercover can be a subtheme and make 2~3 sets based on the story. The Lego Movie feels more like an independent new action theme.- 2,626 replies

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Dorayaki replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Honestly, I'm not fully pleased. I know it's a neat and commercial idea if an original media story provide good theme for actual bricks. However, we should have seen it in previous media including Clutch Powers and City Undercover. If TLC only begins to consider it for newer media, it's dissapointing.- 2,626 replies

Did I said a weird hair color? I hope it won't become a prediction to Evil Yeti and Girlish Yeti. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion
Dorayaki replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This pic is possibly true, or very close to the fact since we know TLC make similar minifigs to save money or help those who didn't get the original minifigs they wanted. This Scientist looks very like the Nurse in a far view. They should at least use other hair pieces like Will Tuner's or Stephenie's in dark olive. -
1.Lady Liberty 2.Aztec Warrior 3.Forest Maiden 4.Viking Woman 5.Spartan Warrior

I personally focus on how distinctive and original the theme of film is. In real-action films, I'm alittle concerned about PotC and LR since both are similar with Lego's past generic themes. I might agree with PotC since it already had three prequels before Disney's cooperation with TLC, but not LR which is a new film. I agree that John Carter can hardly give a theme that is visible and identifiable enough. Oz and Sorcerer's problem might be that the magical theme would cover HP and LOTR, but I'd like to see both especially that witches and heroines from Oz series give a totally different breath from LOTR. Merida : Well, I guess it wouldn't be the major point. 3D animated films is getting to be a new mainstream, and some of the films belong to Princess branch like I said.

Uh, if you count SW together, there will be no more original Disney/Pixar sets. These franchises seem independent since they can go on their own lines without new Disney films. Well yeah, still it depends on how an individual film works with Lego sets. We know that Disney have the advantages to target kids' market, which can easily bring success to toys. TMNT lies in how many consumers beside fans of the story would be, I personally think it's quite distinctive from Ninjago. And honestly, they must make research and produce the toys first, because they can't make a toy right after fans went to the movie and ask for it. What I'm curious about is if those decisions about "skipping" is appropriate or not.

After renting the Wreck-it Ralph video last week, I happened to notice that not all Disney major films have cooperation with Lego, who began their close business since 2010 The Sands of Time. I'm not a theater fan though I love movies, but most recent Disney sets we know are designed before release date of films, which is obviously aimed at theater fans who just watch them. And it means the latest Monsters University have almost no chance for Lego sets. Excluding some other Disney media (eg, Jake Pirates from Disney Channel, though as DUPLO sets), according to Wikipedia, the films we have are: Disney films from 2010 May to 2013 June: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time / May 28, 2010 (Achieved) Toy Story 3 / June 18, 2010 Pixar Animation Studios (Achieved) The Sorcerer's Apprentice / July 14, 2010 Secretariat / October 8, 2010 Do Dooni Chaar / October 8, 2010 Tangled / November 24, 2010 (Achieved)(Minidoll themed, one set so far) Tron: Legacy / December 17, 2010 Anaganaga O Dheerudu / January 21, 2011 Mars Needs Moms / March 11, 2011 Zokkomon / April 22, 2011 Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides / May 20, 2011 (Achieved) Cars 2 / June 24, 2011 Pixar Animation Studios (Achieved) Winnie the Pooh / July 15, 2011 Walt Disney Animation Studios (Duplo) The Muppets / November 23, 2011 John Carter / March 9, 2012 Brave / June 22, 2012 Pixar Animation Studios (Achieved)(Minidoll themed, one set so far) The Odd Life of Timothy Green / August 15, 2012 Frankenweenie / October 5, 2012 Wreck-It Ralph / November 2, 2012 Walt Disney Animation Studios Oz the Great and Powerful / March 8, 2013 Monsters University / June 21, 2013 Pixar Animation Studios The Lone Ranger / July 3, 2013 (Achieved) Planes / DisneyToon Studios, Pixar's Cars franchise (Duplo) Frozen / November 27, 2013 Walt Disney Animation Studios Saving Mr. Banks / December 20, 2013 The Muppets 2 /March 21, 2014 Million Dollar Arm / May 16, 2014 Maleficent / May 30, 2014 Disney films upcoming in 2014: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day / October 10, 2014 Big Hero 6 / November 7, 2014 Walt Disney Animation Studios McFarland / November 21, 2014 The first question is, is it possible the Lego give all future films sets, no matter many or few? I think we can still give one or two sets for each film under the theme of "Disney World". The only problem is Disney could monopolize Lego's production lines and leave few chances for other studios. The alternative second question is, even that Lego can only choose some of these films, are those chosen films the real ones fans want the most? Since the production line is determined before the film actually release, Disney and Lego can't ensure fans fulfill all expectations. But still the very major premise is, not all films give a theme fit in normal Lego sets. Hannah Montana and Secretariat look more like Mattel Barbie themes or Lego Friend themes. We happen to have another Disney historical line, Princess series. Though we don't know if they can appear in System sets, I'd like to see them apply to more recent stories like Tangled, Frog and Frozen.

Nice for people who lost their chance for collectible afro clown. The problem is the boy is a bit less distinctive. He/she should be at least look like a birthday child with a real print. Or if it's a circus member instead of the star, it should be a trapeze girl instead (but possibly happens in CMF first).

Something like it: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=71496 Really sad that the latters series didn't get too many sets. Unless Rowling suddenly comes up with a prequel or spinoff.

Best/Worst designed licenced minifigure ever?
Dorayaki replied to Santaduckz's topic in LEGO Licensed
It reminds me that there are more and more collectible minifigures having hair in hat. If Juno is made in 2013, would she have a better look? -
Next CUUSOO set: 21103 Back to the Future™ Time Machine
Dorayaki replied to Blakstone's topic in LEGO Licensed
I don't really know what's an ongoing project means. If LEGO would really like to do something with Western series renew, the rejection is not important in fact. -
I think it's for older people or make children interest in playing System in the future, not asking a 4-year-old child to play System. This is another point that even though some people love the theme, they don't want to play Duplo. I just thought that it's a pity these Duplo themes can't be compatible with normal sets, because most themes don't have Duplo as well.
-
I'm often concerned that LEGO just made part of the licensed themes in Duplo, which have actual potentials in large System sets and buildings: Winnie the Pooh: not really suitable for large building sets, but I'd love see some more realistic treehouses, other guys' home and other characters. Bob the Builder: originally cartoon for kids, so maybe LEGO didn't plan to make little vehicle characters like Pixar Cars do? If this is a System theme, it can be a good adddition to City construction sets. Thomas and Friends: If this is Takara Tomy in Japan, I believe that there are big potentials for LEGO to enlarge their train system with licensed systems. Or it's TT who dooesn't want LEGO to compete with them? Dora the Explorer: owned by Nickelodeon, but the only one except Spongebob and Avatar that don't appear as System. I think there could be some action bricks for this theme. Disney Princesses: the sets seem to simply aim at little girls learn to play with princesses characters while the sets don't actually contain the background stories (eg, evil queen's chase), and I'd love to see realistic castles in System. On the other hand, LEGO's original Castle sets mostly stress on wars, princess stories could be a nice addition to Castle sets. Toy Story/Cars: both are the Pixar franchises and made in both Duplo and System brands. Some of them give the examples to give simple and comlex scenes as bricks. I think while Duplo is a starter series for new brick players, the reason LEGO made licensed Duplo is mostly for market profits. But in Car and Toy story, I do think these can give young players interests in System LEGOS, while Duplo-only theme could make negative side effects.

It's a pity that Luna had no uniform, and only Cedric was a notable Hufflepuff but the Triwizard Tournament didn't have bricks

Speed Racer's original Japaneses anime was made in 1970 and remade in 1997. Though Speed Racer was indeed based on that movie, it's hardly to ask them to make cartoom set because of the time and Japan-only license. And actually LEGO almost never made themes that directly based on "games". The topic here is just about the completeness of a story.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures versus traditional themes?
Dorayaki replied to Dorayaki's topic in Special LEGO Themes
In Mosnter fighter and Ninjago's example, honestly their pieces and styles are mostly the same and LEGO might just make different torso prints. If it's for generic characters like a cheer member, it wouldn't be too obvious. -
Despite LEGO was originated from Denmark, it seems that LEGO concentrate more on famous works from America and Europe. I'm not sure if they want to ask Asian publisher or animation studio. There are two ways: one is that Asian comic/cartoon/movie/drama goes international and famous (eg, Nintendo games), the other is LEGO have established better rerelationships with Asia countries and LEGO would like to give regional licenses (that means you can only buy LEGO One Piece in Japan) or start their Japanese branch (eg, Megabloks Japan). On the other hand, Japanese cartoons mostly cooperate with their local toy factories (ex, Bandai), we don't know if that the comic publishers or cartoon studios would love to cooperate with foreign toy companies.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures versus traditional themes?
Dorayaki replied to Dorayaki's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Oh, I admit that it was a bad metaphor. I thought I'd mean the smililarity between hero themes. And if gangsters are more like early Shanghai style in Indiana series, I'm not sure if they can appear in normal City themes. -
Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
Dorayaki replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Hhmm... I'm confused with that with many minifigs including generic ones, we don't see some regulars such as Mary Jane or Green Goblin this time.
