  1. Caterham had serious design issues both in the user submitted version and the "refresh" by LEGO. I was really looking forward to buying this set based on submission but was appalled at the product LEGO released. Compare the original: With final product: I realize the original submission took a lot of liberties with the LEGO system but ooof. Hopefully TLG learned has a lot since then.
  2. What are people's expectations of the LEGO IDEAS Medieval Blacksmith set? Do you think the final design will remain faithful to the original or do you think it's going to get nerfed? Me personally, I have been disappointed in most IDEAS sets since the Old Fishing Store and therefore, I don't hold much hope for this. On the other hand, it is clear that this is an adult orientated set, that may not have any appeal to a younger audience if elements are dumbed down too much. I hope the final design choices are conscious of this.
  3. The age ratings were even mocked in the first The Lego Movie. I
  4. The problem is for licensed sets the creator is not a party to license agreement, so there is very little they can do those rights (and they are prohibited from selling even the instructions.).
  5. When you acquire a license like Sesame Street you should go all-in . Not sure how you can justify a bigger Old Fishing Store or Pirate Bay over something like this. The Elmo and Cookie Monster minifigs are not good.
  6. They actually get a couple of sets of TLG's choice.....unless policy has changed recently.
  7. Does anybody think LEGO will issue the Jabba's Palace set again after the Islamic controversy?
  8. 21326 is more likely to be Seinfeld, no? Their art line is more squarely directed at Pop Culture, as well as being vastly inferior.
  9. My horses for the next review are: Starry Night (I will chop my ear off if it does not happen!) Brickwest Studios
  10. Good catch. The same model was rejected twice!
  11. As opposed to Home Alone? Mary Poppins has much greater nostalgic appeal, enough for it to become an MCU meme. Also, backed by a much more recent film,
  12. But some of these were IDEAS projects from other designers. Also, I'm pretty sure the Monster Fighter's Haunted House (10228) was a CuuSoo project.
  13. The choice of Home Alone over Mary Poppins is a real head-scratcher. Mary Poppins figurines go for over $200 (and apparently are hard to find) so the market for a large-scale AFOL Mary Poppins set is they definitely there. Perhaps it was a matter of Disney not wanting third parties to benefit from their IP (Steamboat Willie being a one-off). Just out of interest how many IDEAS/CuuSoo sets have reached 10K votes, not passed review, but then released under another Theme? Monster Fighter's Haunted House Batmobile Tumbler Ghostbusters Firehouse (???) I am sure there have been others.
  14. The project looks deceptive bigger than the piece count. Only the Banks house has an interior. The minifgs are fantastic The biggest drawback is that LEGO IDEAS have two similar structures in the pipeline, Sesame Street and Home Alone. Why dismiss it so easily? It’s the most original contribution in the current wave.
  15. I get the impression that a Studio Ghibli license won’t come cheap. Also, there’s a Japanese company that makes paper construction models of their IP.
  16. So hard to predict this one. I’m going with Mary Poppins and Castle in the Forest
  17. In the words of Natalie Imbruglia "I'm torn",
  18. Looks like UCS Death Star, Millennium Falcon and Y-Wing are all retired.
  19. Bionicle seems like a no brainer, even though I have no immediate interest.
  20. So the second review period of 2020 Is shaping up as: — Seinfeld — Planet Express — Zelda — Bionicle (probably) ???
  21. I respect both your views. Firstly, I admit I am a poor MOC'er so I would struggle to re-create anything remotely resembling this without instructions, hence why my predominate concern is not minifigs. Secondly, I agree making your own minfigs is arduous task. The only saving grace is that there are so many minifig parts available these days that making unique Pirate minifigs is easier than ever.
  22. Two different Haunted House/Mansion projects have reached the review stage recently. I mean, if that's not a "Hello?" to TLG, I don't know what is. Somebody correct me if I am wrong, I believe the Monster Fighters Haunted House started as CuuSoo project.
