LEGO Star Wars 2013 Pictures and Rumors

"License conflict". -
This is the most esoteric diorama I've come across in a long time. Full marks for originality! Are sith crystals the Star Wars equivalent of frankincense?

LEGO Star Wars 2013 Pictures and Rumors
Another Brick In The Wall replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I don't get it...why can't you have 2 rebel snowspeeder pilots and 2 snowtroopers, with the 5th fig being Rieekan. This represents the most balanced distribution of 5 minifigs. -
People keeping bumping this thread giving me an expectation seeing pictures of the sets and each time i leave disappointed. Tonto is the narrator, and the film recounts the story of the Lone Ranger from his perspective but he's far from the central character. But Depp is sure to steal every scene.

LEGO Star Wars 2013 Pictures and Rumors

7666 had Luke + Dack as snowspeeder pilots. -
It's less valid, because it's not targeting Lego consumers. Let's say somebody asked you to vote for the production of a fashion label based on your family name or crest. You would probably vote for it because it would appease some of your family members, even though you may not purchase any of the clothes. Same logic applies here. My bias against non-physical builds is derived from my belief: (1) Projects based on physical builds should be rewarded more than projects without because they (a) involve more effort and(b) give me a better idea of what I'm voting for. (2) Projects based on a physical builds have a more realistic chance of being developed and marketed because they implicitly factor-in cost (to some degree). Although cost apparently didn't factor into the owner Mirage project's thinking!

You really believe that? My cousin is a Purdue grad. In her almuni newsletter there was an article asking their alumni to vote for it. You can bet there was a "on-campus" campaign too. How many other CUUSOO projects benefit from this sort of advertising? Linking votes to facebook or twitter is CUUSOO's biggest flaw. If somebody feels that compelled to vote for a project, they will take the time to register with CUUSOO or LEGO. There's also another Delorean set which has 3K-something votes which is arguably sleeker than to one that got 10K. But I still can't figure out why CUUSOO is allowing users to list multiple sets under the each project, in effect creating themes rather than models. The Zelda projects do this (with no physical builds!) the BTTF Delorean project does this. Wasn't CUUSOO suppose to be about one-off models? And while I appreciate that Western Modular Town may end-up a theme if it is accepted, this would be for marketing reasons and at least there's a physical build, as opposed to the promise of a "Hill Valley Clock Tower" set without even a CG model to back it up.

The Hoth set sounds suspiciously like 7666 + 7749 with the same minifigs collection as 7666 substituting Rieekan for K-3P0. The biggest disappointment is no Ion cannon. Actually 7666 had unique some white bricks injected with sky blue ink to simulate ice. They looked sh*t hot. . -

I'm assuming the minifig is of General Rieeken and sounds like the only thing new about this set. Mostly like 7749. -
Lets start with the premise that the last Zelda game sold < 4m worldwide. Nostalgia doesn't equate to popularity. The IP has been in decline since OoT. I think you have the causality inverted. Mario games are released more often because they sell more. Each Zelda game has sold less than the previous for the last 20 years. This is an argument that I may be persuaded in accepting. I'm not sure what you're getting at but Minecraft is significantly more popular than zelda atm, especially with adults. I'm sure TLG will make significant changes to the UCS Sandcrawler, if it does in fact come into fruition. For instance, the lighting will be omitted and probably most of the interiors. The part count will be somewhere in the vicinity of the SSD.

Please allow me to qualify: My particular issue is with obscure and niche licenses. Projects like Zelda, which will never have sufficient widespread appeal to support a license for more than a few sets (if that) yet garner enough support on CUUSOO because the entire market segment proliferates the Internet. Even BTTF is difficult to justify in 2012. It's not clear to me to whom TLG would market a BTTF theme to. As loved as these films are, they had nowhere near the same cultural impact as Star Wars. In short, obscure and niche licenses are not economically viable to produce (probably the real reason Serenity was rejected). 10,000 votes in no way guarantees 10,000 sales. Contemporary licenses like Minecraft are a different proposition. TLG should have the right to reject a project on the grounds the license is too niche. (I'd prefer if they are honest about this rather than making us endure convoluted reasons they gave for rejecting Firefly) In my view, CUUSOO should be more about projects like Western Modular Town, Space Marines, or even Mars Rover which fill a distinct void in TLG's current range and have widespread appeal. Or projects from existing themes like the UCS Sandcrawler which provides TLG an insight into what fans of current themes want to see. Please feel free to disagree

If I were in charge of CUUSOO, I'd disallow any model which requires a license that Lego doesn't currently own. It sort of goes against the spirit of the project, prolongs the review period and stifles creativity. Further any model that isnt physically built and/or doesn't involve substantial construction (e.g. Zelda) should also be excluded.

I think that you are conflating two different and distinct arguments: (1) The Lone Ranger license may be granted on the proviso TLG does not produce a competing Western range. (2) One Western theme is sufficient. (1) is arguable from the pov it may impinge brand recognition. But (2) lacks merit because it is unlikely they will both be directed at the same demographic. E.g. Lego City and Town Modulars are marketed to two different segments.

Is it due to be retired soon? (Has there been any official announcement?)

Your dream Lego theme

Here's a SNOT-astic Eagle on CUUSOO. The creator almost nails it (the cockpit was always gonna pose problems). Still great. Sadly, will never be produced. -

Thanks for the correction. I was under the impression that anio's fantastic tie figher MOC was minifig scale, which is slight larger than 9492. -
