  6. Sure, you can combine parts from any era. What matters most is whether you can mix parts and make the design look cohesive. Well, let's hope we can tempt you into further involvement.
  7. You're most certainly welcome to share your opinions, and it's great you're able to provide such detailed constructive criticism. However, when communicating via text, the tonality of what you're conveying can sometimes be misinterpreted and may seem more aggressive than you intend. Understandably you're passionate about LEGO Pirates and require freedom of expression, but it's best to avoid the name-calling, no matter how innocuous it may seem.
  8. Yes, you can use parts which became available after 2015 - the FAQ specifically mentions you may build Barracuda Bay style, which was released in 2020. There's no real restriction over the parts, just so long as the overall creation looks as though it could be an official LEGO Pirate set. For example: you might be able to incorporate a Bioncle part or two into your design, but if half your MOC is built from Bionicle, then it's not to resemble the classic-style we're aiming to achieve.
  9. Let's put this to the test... Who loves their colour theory? Using the eye dropper tool to extract the colour hexadecimal code from the original image (minifig's chest on our left), let's put that into a colour generator to determine complimentary colours: And sure enough it's determined a shade of green as a complementary colour. Now, using the eye dropper tool on the original image to extract the hexadecimal code of the green we get #00431B and #00310B So it's not an exact match, but to account for this discrepancy let us consider other factors which may cause the exact shade to fluctuate: The light source which creates shadows (darker areas) and highlights (lighter areas) Texture rendering - very smooth and shiny
  10. AWWWWWWWWWW! So much wub for Scally Wag pirate! Aye, they did well to find a pirate character concept they hadn't previously explored, being the first pirate without a hat or hairpiece and wearing shorts... or are those meant to resemble pantaloons?
  11. That's fair reasoning... but we have a very effective solution to newcomers commenting on other people's MOCs. That will be announced this weekend...
  12. Just out of curiosity... why won't you be participating? Is it because you're not in a position to build? Asking because there may be other opportunities to win prizes...
  13. This is Classic Pirates - there is no such thing as "too classic"
  14. That's subject to personal opinion, and while share this opinion, the House Exclusive Captain Redbeard cause a a noticeable spike in website traffic. So yes, even if the news is "as lousy as that terrible large pirate figure" it still attracts significantly more views and member engagement than the average MOC.
  15. I cannot give you a definite confirmation as I'm not the one orgainising the prizes. @Clone OPatra may be able to clarify further.
  16. Then the LEGO Group may not be able to deliver the Eldorado Fortress to you, should you win.
  17. Sure you can! Just ensure you understand the Terms & Conditions in the first post of this topic.
  18. You mean the "Pirate monkey" mould from 1989 since the mould debuted in the LEGO Pirates theme. But the reason is; it's more cost effective to produce a single moulded piece than a figure with posable limbs.
  19. If your entry is congruent with the design precedent of the LEGO Pirates theme and the parts available during 1998-99 that could work quite well. You've got more than 2 months to enter and your entry doesn't have to be large.
  20. We understand not everyone is a builder nor has the space or parts to participate in the contest's building category. But as the old saying goes, "Everyone's a critic" So here's another chance to WIN 10320 Eldorado Fortress by providing constructive feedback to contest entrants! Now you can participate from the comfort of your phone... anywhere... anytime... HURRY! ENTRIES CLOSE AUGUST 26 When the countdown reaches 00:00:00:00 New entries will no longer be accepted in the Main Building Category New entries will no longer be accepted in the Mini Set Building Category New Creative Critic registrations will not be accepted so register now if you're participating but have not yet registered. Those who have registered for Creative Critic but have not provided feedback to entries will automatically be disqualified. This is your LAST chance to enter! How to Enter First register in the Creative Critic registrations topic. After MOC entries have been posted in LEGO Pirates MOC Forum (commences June 28), reply in the entry topics and dazzle us with your creative writing skills. You have until August 27 to stimulate the discussion and provide the builders with suggestions for how they could make their entries even better! Then between August 28 and September 16 Creative Critics will have the opportunity to vote for their three preferred entries and leave their closing thoughts. Closing thoughts will also be used to determined the Creative Critic Winner. Feedback provided Creative Critics in Contest Management topics (like this one) will also be taken into consideration. How the Winners will be Determined Between September 17 and September 23 the Classic Pirates crew and Eurobrick staff will review registrant posts to assess: The helpfulness of your critiques and feedback Whether the builders consider or action your feedback Whether your engagement has stimulated the discussion Frequently Asked Questions Must I write in perfect English? No. We acknowledge English is not everyone's native language so we'll grant leniency if your spelling and grammar isn't perfect. However, your prose must be legible, so we must be able to understand what you're attempting to communicate. Also, if you create posts containing only emojis, write extremely short responses or post off-topic, you'll be disqualified. Critiquing should be quality over quantity! Do I need to register? Yes. Registrations provide us with a convenient summary of everyone participating Can I register after June 27? Yes. You can register as a Creative Critic any time before August 26. However, you have a higher probability of providing useful feedback and stimulating the discussion if you begin participating when entries are first submitted. Do I need a Eurobricks account? Yes. We don't have the capacity to scour social media for every comment you may write, so the Creative Critic contest will take place in the LEGO Pirates MOC Forum. You may register an Eurobricks account here. Can I Get Disqualified? Yes. You'll be removed from the contest if: Your posts are off-topic or considered to be spam Your posts plagiarise other entrants posts or material from other sources You demonstrate negative or disruptive behaviour. You cheat I.e. create fake accounts or use AI Repeatedly post in the wrong topic. For example: ask questions in the registration topic instead of this topic. Upon breach of conduct you'll be given a warning but after three strikes, you're out! Unless you do something exceptionally bad and then we'll keel haul disqualify yer on the spot! Can I enter into both the Creative Critic and Building categories? Yes, if you have the capacity to do so. But you can't critique your own creation. Do builders have to consider Creative Critic feedback? No. Builders may choose to ignore the Creative Critics - it's probably not the best strategy for attracting future votes, but it's the builder's choice. Can I win two prizes? No. Don't be greedy! Why would you offer such a large prize for this? Because we want people to engage with builders, each other, and the entries. We don't want entrants creating entry topics and then only receiving a couple of short replies. So we're offering YOU a HUGE incentive to invest the time to provide detailed responses. But I want more building categories with prizes! What makes you think we won't announce more building categories with prizes in the near future? There are now two building categories: Main Building Category Mini Set Building Category Terms & Conditions Prize Availability The sets selected as prizes must be available in each winner's home LEGO.com. For example: If winner #1 is located in the US then their prize has to be available on lego.com/en-us, if winner #2 is German their prize has to be available on lego.com/en-de, winner #3 is Australian their prize has to be available on lego.com/en-au, and so on. The winner will receive a 10320 or prize pool of equivalent value of their choosing, subject to availability as determined by the LEGO Group during September 2023. Permissions By participating or viewing, as an entrant, critic, commentator or observer, you hereby: Agree to these Terms & Conditions Agree to the Classic Pirates Terms of Use Grant Eurobricks and Classic Pirates permission to share your images, textual contributions and other media via our various websites and social media accounts. The Classic Pirates crew and Eurobricks staff reverse the right to: Revise the contest or these terms and conditions at any time. Ask Your Questions: Do you require further clarification? Did we miss something important? Do you have feedback to provide? Please create a new post in this topic clearing detailing your question or feedback...
  21. If your team can distribute the prize equally that should be fine. But it should be noted the contest is not aiming for extremely large entries as the objective is to design or redesign in the style of official LEGO sets.
  22. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! If the team wins, how gets the prize?
  23. Official news gets the views...
  24. Actually, it inspired me to use the word "render" in the FAQ. So thanks for the inspiration! You most certainly can! And with enough appeals that rule can be omitted altogether But who else will support this appeal? The rule was intended to provide all participants with an equal amount of time, and therefore the entries should not exist in any form or state of completion prior to June 28.
