I agree but I don't have a complete concept at the moment... But I'll plant a seed of an idea.... Set Name: Haven Checkpoint Category: 4 Faction: Haven Guard Description: The smugglers are trying to sneak into the harbour but can they get past the Haven checkpoint? Main Elements / Play Features: A small fort like structure with a jetty that can restrict passage of small vessels. Minifigures: 2 Haven Guards 2 Smugglers Accessories: The smugglers would have a dingy with a concealed compartment containing smuggled goods. UPDATE!!! Well dopey me! ManInATopHat had already suggested something similiar. We should have that pretty much covered with Smugglers' Hideout Attack!

Ambassador Project - Haven Guard Flag & Torso Designs
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
The Haven Guard is intended to be peripheral to the Merchants so they'd have their own flag and insignia. But so as not to confuse the matter, let's focus on the Haven Guard for now. -

Are we going to need a poll to determine which flag design is the most appropriate? That ties it in nicely with the original LEGO Pirates theme. -

Here's the two torso styles side by side... I probably should mention we flags that compliment the design - anyone good at designing flags? -

Design a NEW LEGO Pirates Sub-Theme HAVEN GUARD: TORSO & FLAG DESIGNS IMPORTANT! Those who wish to participate should first read the Design a NEW Pirate Sub-Theme Project Overview. If you'd like to submit a Merchant or Smuggler design, please visit this thread. Introduction After conducting a series of polls (first poll & second poll) we have determined the faction's name shall be "Haven Guard" and their torso colour shall be dark orange. So now what we need is a unique torso design which we can use in a LDD rendering. We also need Haven Guard Flags! Provide feedback on the designs below or submit your own! Those who wish to participate should first read the Design a NEW Pirate Sub-Theme Project Overview. Here are some designs which have been contributed so far... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Design and render by HJ Media Studios Design by Lind Whisperer | Render by Yooha The below designs based on the painting "Banquet of the Amsterdam Civic Guard in Celebration of the Peace of Münster" by Bartholomeus van der Helst. Finalising the [Brick]Haven Guard - Orange or Dark Orange?
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
It's almost time to close the poll! I'll give it until the end of the weekend for anyone who still wants to vote. -
We've had debates over whether Vikings are Pirates many times. It has been decided the LEGO Pirates Forum shall focus on piracy during the Age of Exploration and Age of Colonization so Vikings are better suited to the LEGO History Forum.

Nice work! Are you able to produce a side-by-side comparison of the lighter orange and the dark orange? -
Finalising the [Brick]Haven Guard - Orange or Dark Orange?
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Welcome aboard! You can find more information in the Project Overview thread. The LEGO Group may or may not use ideas derived from this project. We've conducted a couple of Ambassador projects in the past and ideas from those projects found their way into LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean sets and the Collectable Minifigure Series. So this time we're aiming to collect enough ideas to inspire the LEGO Group to create an entire sub-theme. If they do elect to use ideas we present, their final form will likely be different to what's submitted, but that's fine, we're just acting as a catalyst to encourage future direction. -
Finalising the [Brick]Haven Guard - Orange or Dark Orange?
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
This project is being conducted far too late to be included amongst the rumoured pirate set(s) for 2015. LEGO themes generally take 18-24 months to go from conception to production, so the aim of this project is to provide the LEGO Group with plenty of ideas for use beyond whatever may be released next year. So for whoever is worried that the Smugglers aren't piratey enough; you'll probably get more pirates before you get smugglers anyway. -

Thanks Bob I've incorporated your image into the first post. Why thank you! Not sure about the custom fabric elements as we haven't considered them yet. Probably not for each troop but maybe they would be appropriate for the leaders. It something we need to discuss further in our Definition of Design Constraints thread. Feel free to contribute to that discussion because it would be helpful to know how much custom fabric elements contribute to the overall cost and product of sets. -

So what about custom fabric elements? Royal Brick Customs has offered to assist us with torso design and can also provide custom fabric elements. -

What we need is some customizers to design a unique torso design and then actually apply that to an orange torso. Who has skills in that area? -
The poll is now closed! It has been determined the name shall be "Haven Guard" and the torso colour shall be dark orange. If anybody wishes to submit a potential torso design, visit this thread. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Haven Guard poll has concluded, check the results here... "Haven Guard" was the most popular name while Orange was the most preferred uniform. So this leaves us with some issues to finalise: The name: Should it be "Haven Guard" or "Brickhaven Guard" The reason the name "Haven Guard" was chosen by default was simply because of this following example: Let's say a well known harbour has a harbour guard... Sydney Harbour will do. Is it necessary to say "Sydney Harbour Guard" every time, or would people understand what you were referring to if you just used "habour guard"? What are some other opinions? The torso colour: Orange or Dark Orange: Are there any customizers who would like to create a unique torso design and flag designs for the Haven Guard? LDD render by Yooha LDD render by Bob De Quatre One sentence synopsis: "The ever watchful [brick]haven Guard protects Brickhaven from Smugglers and Pirates!" Poll Results

Ambassador Project - Defining the Factions
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Maybe in real life but this is a kids toy. The Merchants are honest people don't want the Smugglers using their port to sell bad things! Simple as that. Although, the backstory will be minimal so the individual can decide whatever they like. For example: the Merchants might be working with the Smugglers to sneak illegal goods into port and the Harbour Guard is trying to apprehend anybody involved, Merchant or Smuggler. -
I wasn't far off suggesting a similar idea... So I'll just add my thoughts: Description: Two Haven guards on a daring rescue mission to save the merchant from the Smugglers! Main Elements / Play Features: Could use the baseplate found in Pirates Perilous Pitfall to build up the rocky outcroppings. Minifigures: 4 Smugglers instead of 2. Accessories: Handcuffs for the Merchant prisoner.

Defining the Haven Guard (or whatever their name turns out to be)

The poll can run until Saturday (June 7) so there's still time for others to express their enthusiasm for the name. -
Defining the Haven Guard (or whatever their name turns out to be)
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
I'm not opposed to Brickhaven Guard but nobody else has supported it... yet. Although, I thought it would be obvious that the Haven Guard belonged to Port Van Brickhaven just by looking at the name. Let's say a well known harbour has a harbour guard... Sydney Harbour will do. Is it necessary to say "Sydney Harbour Guard" every time, or would people understand what you were referring to if you just used "habour guard"? What are some other opinions? -
Defining the Haven Guard (or whatever their name turns out to be)
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Historically yes, but for the purposes of a LEGO sub-theme we're not going to have a backstory that elaborate - It needs to be as simple and straight forward as possible. Therefore Haven Guards for Port van Brickhaven, Colonial Guards can for a future colony sub-theme (if we ever get round to making one). See how "Haven Guard" requires very little explanation for their role at Port Van Brickhaven? Call them the "Colonial Guard" and then there needs to be more backstory to tie the two together. -
Each faction should probably have a small ship between category 3 and category 5. Smugglers and Merchants are covered, but the Haven Guard would have a patrol boat.
