  1. Ok, we'll save them for wave 3.5! I agree photos would help illustrate the sets and perhaps attract more discussion from those who find text heavy pages detracting. But the topic author seems to have ethical concerns against using other peoples' images. As I recall; back in the mid 2000s various admins had disdain for the word in general, due to their disdain for the sets it described. So the word was banned to force forum members to write more creatively.
  2. I agree 1992-1993 marks the second wave, while 1994, I.e. the year of the Islanders marks the third wave... However, which wave do 6279 Skull Harbour, 6263 Imperial Outpost and 6254 Rocky Reef from 1995 fit into? They seem to fit better with the second wave, than with the third, Islander focused wave and fourth, Imperial Armada focused wave.
  3. At least Islanders have proven to be popular in our recent contests...
  4. Sadly this appears to be case - but let's hope they surprise us with red coats/Imperial Guards!
  5. I hate to dispel your hopes! But here's what we know: The blue coat soldier parts have been removed from the BrickLink Designer Series 6 palette, which seemingly coincides with the retirement of Eldorado Fortress later this year. Therefore, if a Caribbean Clipper remake were on the horizon, it would make more sense to keep the blue coats right where they are.
  6. Thank you for the heads up! Are these images of the final build? Looking forward to seeing how BrickPerfect modifies the Fortuna for this series... especially now the Soldier parts have been removed from the palette.
  7. I assume that's in US dollars given the country specified in your profile is the United States. But aye, $273 is still not a bad price for both those sets! So when are yer going to build them?
  8. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback! Your expectations were met as there was a topic named the Building Entries Index which existed as soon as the first entries were submitted. And at the top and bottom of that topic were "Vote Builders" and "Vote Critisc" buttons (redacted after voting closed) So it should have been possible to browse this topic, see all entries, then navigate to the respective voting topics for both Builders and Critics. And that's all the topics that were required to Vote. 1) The Building Entries Index topic was pinned to the top of the LEGO Pirates forum (unpinned after voting closed). 2) Had an announcement above the forum content on all Eurobricks forums and sub forums. 3) Had an announcement in the sidebar on desktop view 4) Had prominent "View Entries" buttons in all the administrative topics and announcement posts, on both the Eurobricks frontpage and Classic Pirates blog. With the frontpage presenting summaries like: The basic voting mechanics were available at the top of both Builder and Critic voting topics, so in conjunction with the the Building Entries Index, there should not have been any need to visit other topics to understand how to vote. That said: Agreed there were far too many topics... and that was a formality of introducing new initiatives like the Featured Threesome and First to 25 Challenges. Every time new initiative is introduced, it needs to be explained; but the explanations are often too large to fit in a single topic. So to mitigate that issue, future contests will need to be significantly simplified and downsized so a minimal number of topics are required.
  9. May I ask how much yer managed to acquire these treasures for? Is this the blog yer talking about? https://legosteveblog.blogspot.com/
  10. So you didn't go to the pinned LEGO Pirates Master Index and then Tutorial: Cleaning, Restore Your Lego Sails?
  11. Fabric sails! The Admiral Don Diego de Lego Given that my requests are not very feasible within the Bricklink Designer Program, how would you overcome the limitations?
  12. Ok, if you're happy with that extra calculation disregard my comments. I didn't vote for because I was managing the contest and it was necessary to remain impartial.
  13. The blog post certainly wasn't meaning to come across that way!
  14. Open Submission for Series 6 has begun! Builders have until September 27 to submit their designs. When the Timer reaches Zero submissions will close.
  15. @Horation, there seems to be a slight error in this poll. If I select "No" in question 1, I am still required to answer question 2... which is counterintuitive because I voted "No"
  16. I know that feeling... ironically the set I longed for was Eldorado Fortress, after seeing it in the 1991 catalogue. The largest set I acquired when I was a laddie was Forbidden Island. It was until the early 2000s when the sets began appearing on eBay, that I was able to acquire the larger sets. And I managed to get Eldorado Fortress complete with box, instructions extra soldier minfigs, and even the 1993 Pirate Ahoy Expo souvenir book for around $US75. Ahhhhhh.... the mid 2000s were such a great time for buying classic sets! I didn't discover LEGO Pirates until just before for the second wave was released. So after my initial encounter, I went back to the store a couple of months and voila - there were all new LEGO Pirate sets on the shelves! Then at the beginning of every year thereafter (well, for the next two years) I'd go to the store and wonder "When are the next pirate sets coming out..." 1993 was a year full of anticipation because the new sets didn't arrive until mid year in my waters. So I had wonder for a whole six months!
  17. Yes, indeed. Forums and social media are built on "fair use" policy, while they may vary from region to region, "fair use" is generally defined as: Fair use gives users the right to use copyrighted material without permission under certain circumstances. If a use is fair, the user need not notify or seek permission from the copyright holder. Examples of purposes that are favored by fair use: “criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, [and] research.” Use for one of these purposes is not automatically fair, and uses for other purposes can be fair. That's a very familiar story! I entered my first Dark Age towards the end of 1993... with computer games being considered more socially acceptable than LEGO at high school. So I completely missed the overall decline in set quality - and some may argue the LEGO Pirates theme peaked in 1993 anyway.
  18. (The follow responses are open statements to anyone who cares to answer, and not specifically directed at YellowFrog) Was that a limitation of the voting system or just the way it was setup for the Technic contest? Only one vote fell into contention but it was the way it was addressed publicly that was the issue. This would be my concern as well as we had difficulty getting people to vote for free. Perhaps subscriptions work for traditional LUGs in which members periodically meet at physical locations, but in the case of an online community, people generally expect everything to be for free. Also, LEGO Pirates is an extremely niche interest, and not in the same league as contest or community encompassing all LEGO themes. So on that basis, there will be always less participation. However, I'm quite happy to be proven wrong; so if there any niche online AFOL communities who approach contests with subscription based models, please provide further details...
  19. Copyright isn't an issue if you use the set images from Brick Set which originated from LUGNET around 25 years ago. Many LEGO fansites and thousands of AFOLs have shared these images throughout the past 2.5 decades. The LEGO Group is very proactive in protecting its intellectual property,so if there were an issue with using of those images, fans would have known about it years ago.
  20. Ahhhh.... but is there any logic in my reasoning? It based purely on the emotions I was feeling in a single moment. Feelings that I'd never had before, or again since. I'd place this at the top of my 1991 list. My cousin had this set before I'd encountered Buried Treasure so my LEGO Pirate obsession had yet taken affect. I recall staying over night at his place, and for a good 30 minutes I was compelled to investigate the set further. It was the first time I'd really taken any interest in LEGO of my own accord. Do you aim to acquire more classic LEGO Pirate sets to add to your collection? Or is this the final line-up? Dare I ask what happened after the first 5 years?
  21. You are correct! And that's why it's important to link directly to where you want to send people.
  22. Welcome to the LEGO Pirates Forum! Thank ye for taking the time to share some a comprehensive overview of your set rankings. I must say I'm impressed by the level of detail you've provided! So does this imply you we were a young laddie during the late 80s and early 90s? And how many LEGO Pirate sets are in your collection to this day? This was the set that sparked my love of LEGO Pirates - without it this LEGO Pirates Forum probably wouldn't be here. It wasn't so much the build that attracted me, rather it had the right balance of elements to make my imagination run wild. So, for this reason I'd place this set at Number 1.
  23. We already have a sub-forum for Pirate MOCs to separate them from the discussions - are you making the same observation between Pirate MOCs and Pirate discussions? This commonly happens with MOCs being posted in the main LEGO Pirates Forum, rather than the Pirate MOC Forum. But we could slap a huge banner at the top of each forum to direct contest participants to where they need to go./ And then X% will still miss it anyway, but it's better than nothing.
  24. Finally somebody noticed! It had not been announced suit to ensuring all the winners who's prizes will be provided by The LEGO Group were contacted and settled before the September 15 deadline. But now that's out under control... the draw winner has been announced!
  25. That's an idea I've been postulating myself! One topic would only work if the contest were significantly smaller on scale. A rules book topic was created for the Infamous Steve Contest in an attempt to tie everything together, but look how long that turned out. And it still doesn't cover everything.
