A price increase is just icing on the cake for me. Pricing has already gone beyond what I am willing to spend on most sets so that I never buy LEGO unless it is on sale. My Bricklink buying has bottomed out and I don't even check ebay anymore. I thankfully have more than enough LEGO to keep the imagination flowing but I do feel sorry for the children and families who can't afford to get great toys like LEGO.

have a laugh at Mega Blocks misfortunes...
SuvieD replied to mikey's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I honestly think MB should stick with what makes them money and expand into the teen and adult miniatures gaming instead of tops. They are already producing small plastic parts and figures, all they would need is a working game setup that is easy to play and with plenty of variety to increase challange. They could even pursue a deal with D&D or Warhammer for a simpler version of those games, something to get kids interested in playing tabletop games at a younger age which would get more of them doing so as adults and also include less serious game players to start playing. Nintendo is proving that the world is a big blue ocean and you need to get something out there to meet the needs of those not already part of their current sales demographic. -
What's the best photo hosting site?
SuvieD replied to desultor's topic in Forum Information and Help
Brickshelf. It has the most LEGO centric content, a decent search function, free and unlimited space, and is easy to use if you take a few minutes to get the basics down. Plus it is "the" place to find some of the best and brightest LEGO creations going back years and years. -
I bought three for $12 each back in the day. $95 seems ridiculous to me. To each his own though. Even at full price you could get six or so new sets (and better) in my opinion with that much money. Of course I don't have much money to buy LEGO so I rely on sales and clearance stuff. That and I don't care for SW since they started making the new movies.

Which parts? And how many of those parts? See the parts here Rockoh T3 As for me, I am always looking for chainsaw body, chainsaw blade (esp in trans), helmet visors (esp in trans red, yellow, and green), standard helmets or printed space versions, ufo armor and helmets, blasters (old style not SW), anything that looks like a space gun, airtanks, foliage or trees, zamorspheres, crystals, shutter/door holder bricks, 2x4x2 bricks with studs on side or with holes on side, octogonal pillar bricks, round bricks with fins (rocket ends), frogs, brown wolf/dogs, minifigure hands in any colors except flesh or the new greys, magnets and magnet holders of all kinds, bionical minifigure weapons, metal dectectors, boulders (round rocks), half sphere windscreens (bubble looking), any bi-level wing plates (from space series), lion head bricks, arches of any size or color, and roof slopes in red/blue/black/green/dark red/dark blue/sand green/any gray color/brown/yellow. Minifigures I am looking for are any of the new female pirate or castle figures, rock monsters from power miners, aquaraiders II (the newest diver series), M-tron, Blacktron 1&2, ufo, spyrius, futuron, space police 1, unitron, exploriens, wolfpack, forestmen, crusaders, black falcon, black knights, peasants, bionicle minifigures (not the single mold ones though), and any minigfigure with a normal body and a molded head except spongebob figures.

I am bumping this after the edit. I managed to find a few more of this set and the total is up to eleven now. Let me know if any of you are interested in one or more of the bionicle figures. Of course I also have 11 of the rest of the set and would be willing to sell or trade other parts from them as well just let me know if you are interested. I would say make me an offer for prices but most people don't want to take the trouble so instead pricing will be half of the BL average price for any parts you would want.

I have found that my tastes have changed over time and what I once thought amazing as a child is now meh. The fantasy and imagination I brought to a set is what made it great and not the set itself. Today I prize the concepts or entire series of certain themes rather than particular sets. Because I MOC and don't collect, I often buy parts or sets that mesh well with say Crusaders of Blacktron as a theme and ignore the actual sets. Besides I have digital instructions for all my childhood sets and more than likely the parts to rebuild them if I wanted to. Maybe consdier getting instructions and building something similar yourself.

So then do you also dislike insurance agencies, McDonalds, and every other company who advertises? I have never seen a company advertise the full and total 100% honest truth about what you get for you money. Perhaps it is the lack of flash-bang editing and music that prevents you from seeing this is just another marketing ploy to pocket some extra money. The truth is, advertising and marketing are 99% of the time an effort to mislabel products or trick you into buying more crap you don't need. I personally think all advertising is fudging at best and criminally misleading at worst and consumer education should be the focus. There will always be a chump willing to hand over cash for a lie. I don't want to be that chump. Look at it on the bright side. If people are buying those items they will likely have less money to spend on the things you want.

Another scam artist caught switching Lego bar codes
SuvieD replied to salty tbone's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You can't blame the register attendant either though. I recently picked up seven clearance sets that were 80% off and the stickers on them were still sitting at 50% off. I only paid $56 for $280 worth of LEGO. Deals are to be found out there and the checkout is rarely the place to catch pricing discrepencies. Though ideally any item of that size should send warning signals at least when there are no clearance stickers and the items are in bulk. The toy department and loss prevention were smart in working together as it is their job to figure this stuff out. Still, people like this are awful. Gives all the real collectors and bargain hunters a bad name. -
I picked up eleven 8941 sets for a good price and I am looking to sell off the bionicle figures from them to make back some of the cost. I am looking for $7 per figure plus shipping. I will toss in few extra silver bionicle weapons and will take requests as to which ones if you link to or add a BL picture of the part. I am willing to barter prices and of course trades are welcome too. I am looking for rock monsters and crystals from Power Miners, zamor spheres in any color, space or castle figures sold anytime before 2000, and bionicle minifigures and weapons.

Whats wrong with it? I like it plenty fine. This is very much in the style I like to build. There are plenty of details, the design is nice, and I like all the studs showing. A lot of MOCs these days are going studless which I don't care for. If I had a complaint it would be in the premise. Stone towers with buildings attached are usually defense locations not hunting lodges. The idea if fine but doesn't seem very appropriate to me. Now if you mean the ruin is used as a hunting lodge then it works for me. I am not sure what the chains and spears are doing sticking out of the wall but it adds a little something extra and from an artist pov it helps lead the eye around the MOC. The dark stone battlements on the towers top seem a little out of place but fit. Thanks for posting. MOC on!

It completely depends on why you collect and what you do with your collection. I collect LEGO generally, with a focus on older castle and space themes. I like to MOC and display what I build. I have also created several wargames that use LEGO and have enjoyed playing those with friends. I do not collect just to have though. If I am not using it or have plans for using something I will get rid of it. Decide for yourself why you are collecting and what your ultimate LEGO goals are. Only then will you know what you should focus on and how much money to spend on it. In ten years will you be kicking yourself for not saving that money to buy a new car? Will you turn around and sell it all off on ebay to put a down payment on a new house or buy a wedding ring? If you know where you want to end up, it is easier to plan now how to get there.

I saw and liked the movie. Enjoyable cast and just enough of the throwback lines to not overdo it. Scotty and Bones were great and I liked the new Kirk. He worked as Kirk, enough of Shatner to pull off role but not so much that I wanted to punch him. The storyline worked well enough for me though time travel always seems to have holes in the plot, and why not, holes in time should create holes in plot right? Personally, I found the all TV series' uninteresting. I haven't seen all the movies but those I have seen I was never really into. Star Trek has always been a little slower moving and I prefer reading to watching if the pace requires much thought. I watch movies to enhance reading or purely for entertainment and since I have not read much of the Star Trek lore the movies don't have the appeal something LoTR does for me.

Do you go to extremes to protect your precious bricks ?
SuvieD replied to green dewback's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't grind mine in the dirt or go after them with power tools. I do not go out of my way to protect them at all though. They are just a toy after all. -
As an estimate, I would guess 2100 minifigures. That wouldn't include those I am selling on BL or the various minifigure parts. I have something like 750 space figures, 650 castle, 500 blank torso figures I can use as peasants or civilians, 100 or so exoforce, and a smattering of all the other themes. Now I am curious myself as to the actual count. I guess I know how I am spending my evening.

If LEGO asked me to choose five new animals and that is what they would make: 1. squirrel 2. rabbit 3. deer 4. lion (big cat with a attachable mane, that way we also can get pathers, cougars, and leopards depending on print or color) 5. fox If I could double that 6. pig 7. goat 8. sheep 9. wolf (not that dog they have now, a real timberwolf) 10. camel I would also like to see existing animals in new colors like the bear and frog. Frogs in orange would be great great.

The shape seems inspired. The complete angular look, especially from the side, is lovely. There seems to be the problem of missing landing gear. If I had the opportunity to fly this lovely around I am not sure I would want to land often either. I think I might use some similar concepts for an Mtron moc in the future. MOC on!

I always wanted to be a jetpack trooper for Blacktron II. Something about causing mayhem throughout the universe while cruising around in a stylish white space jumpsuit. Exciting! Can't say a life in the dense pines as a forestman would be so bad either.

Technically space is the best theme in that it sits in the future where anything can happen. But there are tow reasons this thought is flawed. First, SW itself leads you to see that a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, meaning it is in the past, while the people on earth are primative so that even in our current time advanced as we are, some where out there someone is far more advanced and it is also likely someone else begins their primitive roots. Secondly, LEGO is a toy and as such it only requires a little imagination to find a use for even the most scifi portions of a SW set if you were going to use every bit of your LEGO at once in a giant display. A future display in a museum, advanced or prototype military craft, or even something like the Terminator series where things are sent back in time to alter the future. Space is a good series though. I find the majority of it very violent though. Town at least has a semblance of civility whereas castle, pirates, and space would not function much outside of conflict.

My advice is to build a miniature version as accurately as you can to temper your enthusiasm. Then after it is built, see if you are still that interested in working toward the minifig scale version. You do realize that a 1:1 minifigure version will likely require an empty garage to build it in and will either need steel internal frame to allow for it to be picked up or be built in numerous connectable sections that can only be moved by separation. If you really want to build a large ship as some builders who have built them. If you want to recreate some portion from the game (especially an RTS) build in miniature and have some friends over to play a LEGO version of the game. If you stick with it the best type I can give you is to invest in technic parts and bulk lots in colors you need and avoid buying the figures or accessories.

Huge Price Increase for Pick A Brick Items!
SuvieD replied to Eurospanol25's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The PaB seems to be in transition right now. I am wondering if they hiked the prices to slow orders down while they got everything loaded and fixed. I have done similar things on BL while I was changing inventory amounts. If the prices are for real, and I can't see how they could be, then LEGO has lost it. I was waiting for a price drop on some of the smaller more common parts, to think anyone would pay more than double what it costs to buy parts in a set isn't insane, its stupid. Not even Star Wars parts generate such prices, at least not while they are in production. Bricklink is expensive today. Four+ years ago it was not nearly as bad. Things started getting worse about the time all the SW collectors discovered BL. A lot of that has to do with the removal of the all time prices removed from the price guide. Since the prices are based on a rolling six month period it is easier to jack prices up, especially on rare or older items. Conversely, demand also has something to do with it. As the AFOL community grows, the desire for collecting or even hording certain parts begins causing the prices to rise. Not to mention the people who make a living or at least a second income off of resale, they want to increase profits and because they have so much more stock they justify a higher price because they know people would rather spend a little (or in some cases a lot) more to get everything they want from one store rather than a dozen. I wouldn't worry too much about PaB prices. At the current prices, it is not likely they will sell much of anything. Money talks far louder than any email or letter you might send them. LEGO will soon realize that these prices are too high (if they even intend them to stay like this) and will begin adjusting. LEGO won't give up on PaB so easily, I mean they just added all sorts of new parts for a reason. They won't pursue parts replacement here either. PaB is designed for bulk sales not small amounts. The more someone buys the more money LEGO makes, I think they want to keep it that way. I look forward to an official explination though. -
Excellent design and craftmanship. Boring military color but fitting. I can see this rolling over a deployable bridge and moving into range on a hostile target zone and turning it into a parking lot. A vehicle like this needs a couple support jeeps each with a high caliber barrelled gun mounted to the canopy. Maybe a little too studless for me but I like the shapes and sturdy look. Has a feeling of power in the look of it. MOC on!

I have done LEGO art myself in college. We had an assignment to create an object that conveys a negative or opposite interaction with medium that are generally very friendly. There was a Barbie doll covered in broken mirror bits and other pretty good pieces. Mine was a gun built out of LEGO set on a pedestal. The gun got a very large reaction, first for being a gun (some people actually thought it was a real gun until they inspected it for themselves) and second for being made of LEGO, a childs toy. I still have it on a shelf in my LEGO room. I even had a friend who hunts and collects firearms look it over and he was impressed with the attention to detail and how it looked and felt like holding a real gun. I think these pictures are a good use of a brand logo. LEGO remains a powerful and primarily innocent image of childhood, creativity, and safety. I do not think they are funny or vulgar. Just something to think about, and that is the sign of good art. Or so I am told

Great bell and teamwork on getting this building strat out in the open. Thanks everyone for all the effort to share.

LUGNET was going sour and I wanted another place to hang out in the Legoverse, Eurobricks was it. It probably helped that questionably illegal pictures would pop up here from time to time also. This place has gone though lots of changes since then. It is nice to be here still.
