  1. I love LEGO castle. I am still upset that I have to scavenge for it in the old colors. I do not and will not collect any part in the new dark gray other than an odd weapon here or there. It is nice to see new elements being introduced, and new colors for classic parts like flags. Now if we could get more and variable sized sets similar to the market square I would truly be happy with castle. Kingdoms is looking interesting and for the most part like a good buy. I only really buy for parts though as I don't trust LEGO to create sets worth displaying in the castle series anymore.
  2. Studs out, little to no tiles. I am becoming too old and set in my likes to appreciate the studless building style. I remember fondly the old sets of the 80's and 90's when you got more than a brick or two in each set.

The power of MOCs like this are lost to the internet. They are simply too large. My suggestion is to do this in steps. Focus on each segment at a time and make it a worthy MOC in and of itself. Then once all the parts are finished put them together and turn it into a battle scene. Buildings are often boring but their are ways to mix it up. Common tricks include, heavily greebled areas, repair work, areas under construction, repelling an attack, a prisoner escape, espionage, an accident, dramatic entry of a dignitary or ruler, or anything that shows movement/drama are great for increasing the look. For details themselves, go take a look at Keith Goldman's stuff and steal a few ideas to help you get started. Use them as he does or tweak them to suit your building style and part selection. Finally, stick with what you have. Buying loads of parts to complete a MOC does nothing to promote creativity. Using what you have forces you to get creative and can produce amazing results.
  4. Thanks for stopping in this thread. I need to finish up a research paper and find myself short a few interviews. I am not too picky about respondents as my argument is air tight but having some additional sources will help the paper. Basically, if you buy or sell on Bricklink.com you can help me out. Just answer the questions below in complete sentences in a reply to this post. Thanks in advance for your help! Questions: What would make placing (buying or selling) an order a better or more simple process for you? If a new way to place orders was implemented that would involve changes to the site that allow for accurate estimated shipping and instant payment for orders was made, why would/wouldn't it benefit Bricklink and why would/wouldn't you want to use it? Bricklink is based on seller's freedom to customize their own store and they would not be forced to use any new options, how would you feel about selling with such changes or why would you choose to/not to buy from stores that offered these services? Because these improvements could allow for faster order processing, how important to you would changes like this be? What other comments or opinions concerning this topic do you have?
  5. Buy your supplies in bulk online and consider getting a printer access to a printer that can handle printing postage. You can bubble mailers for about $0.30 per piece and plastic zip bags at $0.01 each. If you print your own postage you can save a trip to the post office as they will pick up you mail for you. You might also need a postal scale if you plan on being extremely accurate and will use it often. Check esupply.com store and gtbag.com
  6. Mariann Asanuma - 7 Excellent use of color and size. I would love to have this sitting on my work desk. Others are good but this feels nearly universal.
  7. You should always read the splash page for a store. My store says that orders may take some time and I am only able to work on the three days a week. Real life has a sneaky way of getting order delayed. Really, you have about thirty days from the purchase date until they mark an order shipped if you paid by paypal. I have only sent a few order that late and the buyer knew in advance that it was going to take a long time. Communication on both ends is the key though. Most people are very helpful and understanding.
  8. Wow, I only put a link to this on BL and here an I already got all the responses I needed. Thank you all kindly for your help. The papers and class, I am afraid, are both boring out of necessity. The prospect is a interesting one and perhaps some day it will become part of the BL universe. Changes will always come and I think something like a quick checkout is very possible for the future. Thanks again! This will be a cool topic anyway, and I will post the results here when I find some time to do so.
  9. If you buy or sell on Bricklink please take a minute to answer a quick survey for me. Click here to take survey! Your answers will be put to use in several papers for an advanced writing class this term. Once you have completed the survey post a quick comment to this topic so that it will remain visible for any members who visit the B/S/T forums. Feel free to let me know more in depth what you think about the topic and also let me know if you have previously considered a similar premise and what your conclusions are. Thank you kindly, -SuvieD
  10. +1 for Legoking An excellent trade with fast shipping and great communication.
  11. So these are great. I actually like the fact that you made the vehicles minifigure sized but the last and biggest one looks the best to me. The larger size afforded you more room and details. Have you considered building in maxifig or technic figure scale? You clearly have the talent and vision to make the transformers work; it is a shame so many details get left vague due to size constraints.
  12. Minifig death and dismemberment is common for me. I don't use parts to illustrate blood, guts, or body parts though. Obviously a headless fig is dead, and thats enough for me. Going beyond even "comically" has no appeal. Just like in video games, I prefer the poof-and-sparkles deaths to the mortal combat blood sprays and WWII brain chunks flying. I voted comic violence but many of the fan MOCs simulate real violence which to me should not be considered comic regardless of if you find it funny. Serial rapists maim and murder their victims with a smile on their face and no remorse in their heart. That should not seem comic to anybody and neither should representations of other graphic violence. I know movies like 300 are turning gory battle into an "art" but LEGO remains on the other side of the child's toy fence for me and is better represented with slap stick and comic violence than mirroring real violence.
  13. Are you really going to be that technical? Do you really care what I have to say about what cartoons I like and would you read every word I wrote about the numerous cartoons I listed many of which are duplicates to what other people wrote? By replying to this thread have I not "posted" what cartoons I like? Further is the quality of this thread improved by your eye-rolling trolling? Wouldn't your time be better spent commenting on the cartoons and starting a possible conversation about them among myself and the other members here? I noticed you already added your thoughts on some cartoons but as the title implies post about cartoons you like, not make snarky comments about how other people did post something relevant and applicable to the topic at hand. Can you not follow your own advice? Are you trying to exercise guilt tactics in a pathetic gesture of controlling the boards, are you trying to regulate what an adult poster who has been on EB for years has to post or comment, or are you venting frustration at how you in fact have no moderator powers or say about how the site is run and who is allowed to post here? Or perhaps you were not thinking at all when you posted such an asinine response to what is clearly a list of cartoons I like to a thread about cartoons in which I "posted" my favorites. Sorry if you are offended, not sorry about anything I wrote. Rather than explain why I like them I thought I would just put out the cartoons I enjoy most, many of which are repeats. In a way it works a lot like a tally so those who have the free time and interest might make comments like, "Oh wow, there are tons of people commenting about Avatar. That must be a cartoon I should check out." Which might lead to further discussion or additional lists. In case you do possibly care, I enjoy cell shaded, hand drawn cartoons featuring, comedy, action, fantasy, or drama. I dislike the traditional Japanese anime and prefer the Disney art and movie which inspired the style. No one element or cartoon is superior to me, they each have a place and purpose and like all art should on some level inspire, these cartoons have inspired me in some shape or form. Some are even poorly done but the nostalgia of watching them when I was younger and the enjoyment it gave me secures a place on my list. One I forgot to add is GIJoe.
  14. Avatar Gargoyles S1&2 Gummibears Samurai Jack Dexter's Lab Phineas & Ferb Thundar the Barbarian He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Dragonball & DBZ but not DBGT Smurfs Arthur and the knights of justice
  15. The new diving gear look sweet! This is by far my most anticipated new theme.
  16. What condition do you need the blue bricks?
  17. Dark Teal Sadly, there is hardly any of it out there.
  18. There are a number of license issues that will have to be worked out first but if Toy Story and PoP sell better than the cheesy Mickey sets from years ago, I think there is a strong possibility for some sweet stuff. Most of the Marvel heroes are extremely American which might limit their use. It would be nice to see some X-men or Avengers LEGO though. Plus LEGO is going full steam ahead in making new molds for minifigure heads so we could easily see some awesome sets and figures if Disney does expand their effort with LEGO. I am not too hopeful yet. Disney owns a lot of companies. Hopefully the new sets sell well and Disney seeks to expand their efforts.
  19. I play. I build stuff, move it around, make noises, have intense battles, and all around play with my LEGO. Not in front of company mind you but when it is just me I play just like a did as a child. I can hardly pick up a handful of bricks without playing with them. I find that playing helps me build better. If I can barely play with a MOC it isn't finished or needs to be reworked. Sadly, my compulsion and bargain hunting skills buried me in excess LEGO to the point I get sick of trying to deal with it all. Since I have been selling it off though I find my interest beginning to build again and I look forward to busting out pages worth of MOC ideas and get building. Playing is a learning experience I think most people consider childish. In some ways it is. Only once since I have been an "adult" have I ever "played" with other adults. Three of us shot fireballs, fought, and powered up dragonball Z style in a public park a few summers ago. It was an interesting experience for sure. People walking through the park must have thought we were mental asylum escapees but the people we knew that were there were amazed that we could still play like children and judging by their comments it seemed like they wish they could drop the barriers and join us. I am not sure we lose the ability to play. I think most of us box it up, trivialize it, or deem it improper behavior for an adult to engage in. On top of that we complicate play with knowledge and reality. Children can have a minifigure jump off high castle walls without a scratch. As an adult, I know full well that no man can jump fully armored off a forty foot wall, fifteen feet outward, land on his feet and then expect to do anything other than go to the hospital or morgue. Our perception often limit our ability to play like children. Of course everyone plays differently. I never smashed toys into walls or even each other at any age. I also prefered building up in place of tearing down. Many children play doing both of those things. Collecting is only an enabling for my wildest play wishes from childhood. I always wanted dozens of soldier to battle instead of seven and now I can. I never collect just to collect though. If I am not using it I am going to sell it off and put the money toward something I will use. Having for the having sake is lost to me as I don't care or want things I won't use. I do wish I had collected SW sets from 99-01 when I found so many 50-75% off as I could have made a mint but even now I can pick out sets I know will double or triple in value and I have to open them and get some use out of them. PLAY WELL Play on!
  20. My recommendation is to use these hinge bricks as an underlay for support and a frame. Using bricks and modified bricks to build the skeleton of the building you could then use tiles, plates, and decorative elements to cover the skeleton and achieve something in this look. Arches might work but them may be difficult to find in quantity or color. While the hinge brick will not give you a perfect round shape them come close and allow you to use plates and tile freely on them while arch bricks do not. This That This Alternatively, you could build round areas out of just plates which will allow you to achieve layers of color and shape but will be time and cost intensive. If you are not familiar with SNOT building techniques you should do a few searches here on the forums to become better acquainted with them. I own a BL store and I am currently getting rid of a lot of parts. If you would like to work out a bulk purchase of the parts I have listed there or from the oddles of stuff I have yet to list send me a PM. I guarantee a cheaper price than anything you will find on BL. Just let me know. Best of luck on building something so complex and detailed. And welcome to Eurobricks!
  21. I do not collect bionicle per se but I have a large box full of parts I will not use. If you are interested in a trade or to buy some parts pm me. I have: masks kraana squids armor weapons and plenty of other parts I only keep hard plastic bionicle parts in non-earth tones so I am willing to trade for those. I am also looking for slope and arches in red, yellow, blue, and white. I collect space and castle so any of those types of parts or figures would be great for trading. If you want to buy I can sell in bulk or by the piece just let me know in a pm what you want and how much you would like to spend.
  22. One can only hope. Even if it is a single year return I would certainly get some especially if the torso prints look that nice.
  23. Sounds like an amazing program for the display builders and train clubs. For myself I am looking to rely on the new assortments from PaB. I have no personal need for bulk and if the lug I belong to can use this program I hope they put my portion to good use in buildking and promoting the hobby.
  24. Great news! LEGO is really expanding minifigures this year to be more than the traditional figures. On top of that the color scheme looks great.
  25. Not a purist, though I am a show em your studs kind of guy. Extra parts are fine in mocs, I can't stand studlessness though, there is something unlego about being so smooth.
