The best thing right now being back at the GoH forum is seeing all the builds I've missed, and this one is probably the most stunning of them all Excellent work!

A Visit to Kaliphlin - The Lion's Eye Chapter 1 - Freebuild
Gideon replied to mccoyed's topic in Guilds of Historica
Excellent Kaliphlin build! I really like the desert fortress style of the build, feels like a place where bandits and dangerous creatures are plentiful so that all wealth must be shut in behind walls every night You've also managed to create a busy atmosphere with all those different races which I think fits very well along the oil road. Your style would indeed have fit very well in Kaliphlin, and I hope you will come to visit us more times when you want some change from fleshing out the Western Isle. You are very welcome to visit and build in Barqa!- 24 replies

Book III - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
@pombe Welcome to Kaliphlin! Great choice of guild I think your style of storytelling fits excellent in GoH, and the build presentation in general is top notch! I don't know how the custom in AG has been, but moving ahead I think t like these deserve their own threads. @mccoyed Always nice to have visitors to our guild and hear that you almost joined us in this book May trade between Kaliphlin and Varlyrio prosper in the moons ahead! -
Very nice color to use for thatched roofs! That whole GoH display was awesome btw, seeing such a good turnout of GoH builds at Brickworld was probably what gave me hope of a rekindling of the game

The anticipation of starting a new book and waiting eagerly to see what loose ends from the final of book II the leadership will start to tug...?

Nice sturdy storehouse and brilliant birch design! I like that you have included an interior and plenty of food A couple of minor nitpicks are that I think the interior would have been improved with a tiled floor (and maybe "stone colored" since it's indoors?) and that it seems like your pictures are a bit on the noisy side. To remedy that I think more light or a longer shutter speed is recommended. The composition of the pictures would also be improved if you took a step back and zoomed in instead, to avoid the close perspective making the front of the build being "magnified" and the sides of the build sloping outward.

Nice introduction in a lovely format! I think you should continue to present your builds and stories in this minifig-centered/comic book style way I very much like when the focus of the picture is on a specific element (usually a fig or a few figs) and the rest of the build is out of focus, it is a great way to empasize what the viewer should look at. This comic book format should probably be ok also for many of the challenges, except if the rules explicitly state something like that the only editing allowed is to remove the background (which sometimes is the case). Having most of the story in this format is great in my opinion, but including some describing text including the keywords of the context in the post can also be a good idea since text in the pictures will not be searchable. It could be a good idea to include a final shot with the whole build in the frame and in focus, it can be hidden in "spoiler tags" (see below) if it's more of a behind the scenes shot. At least for challenges that is probably required.
Hidden text and pictures...
gives:

If everyone would join Varlyrio wouldn't we have a "Book III: Guilds of Varlyrio"? Gideon will however himself visit the Western Isle in the spirit of prosperous trade between Barqa and Illaryian!

Book III - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
Lord Gideon of Barqa is confirming his loyalty to Kaliphlin! Lord Gideon is an half-elf who has travelled all over Historica as a mercenary before settling down and calling Barqa his home. There he built up a substantial fortune as a merchant and was elected to the City Council, and further became it's chairman and mayor of the city when Lord Masa left for the lordship of Aden's Gate. Most recently Gideon once again picked up his arms and led the Kaliphlin forces against the Black Spire, defeating their Kaliphlinite loyalists in the battle of the Shifting Oasis. Sigfig in battle armor: Most of my previous GoH builds, linked together roughly story-wise, can be found here: You are very welcome to include my sigfig in your stories, I especially like all the small and large builds of others visiting Barqa in the past! So to interact with my sigfig in Barqa you don't have to ask for permission. Since Lord Gideon is travelling all over Kaliphlin he can show up in other places too, but please just check with me then to avoid geographic contradictions To recreate my sigfig any red/dark red medieval civilian outfit or Kingdoms lion armor will do. The CMF elf hair (93230pb01) or Eomer helmet (10054pb01) are preferrable headgear. If you don't have any of those pieces, there are probably other hats or maybe a turban or three in Gideon's wardrobe too Civilian sigfig Hair: 93230pb01 Head: 3626bpb0628 (or something with similar facial features but different expression?) Torso: 973pb1599c01 (or other medieval outfit, preferrably red/dark red or Kingdoms lion) Legs Assembly: 970c00pb063 (or something else suitable together with the torso) Military sigfig Helmet: 10054pb01 Head: 3626bpx302 (or something with similar facial features but different expression?) Torso: 973pb0682c01 (or something else gray with gray or dark red arms) Body wear: 2587pb23 Legs Assembly: 970c86pb02 -
Book III - Varlyrio: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Great start of fleshing out the lore of Varlyrio! In my opinion you’ve captured some of the best elements of Nocturnus with all the diverse peoples and tribes, although maybe with less lava? The team is also starting to look really strong! Can’t say that I’m not extremely tempted to join, but someone has to stay behind and tend to old Barqa too I will definitely revisit the island anyways, still have a ton of Garra soldiers in a box from my previous build there. https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/96548-unrest-in-varlyrio/ -
Great fig and excellent presentation! Can’t wait to see what adventures this new character will have in Book III

Nice scene overall and great homage to an iconic classic set! (Which happens to be the first castle set I got as a kid )

Make Historica great again!

I think any changes which spark a new interest for GoH building at this stage are good changes That being said, I would not like to see more of the game move into PM threads. My experience with BoBS is that the faction thread is almost dead and that the real communication goes on in a number of PM threads instead, but only for us in the same faction... PM is still great go coordinate surprises or collabs in general of course, but not as the place where the majority of the talk goes on.

Great fig posing! Lovely use of the minifig faces

Nice scene overall, and great interiors! Looks like you are learning from the masters

I think we've more or less only seen buildings from the Varlyrian capital so far...? I would probably safely assume that Venice cannot be called representative for all of medieval Italy and that Varlyrio is much the same, only with more fantastical features too?
