I like the sleeping dead touch, very nice. A good show of rubble and destruction, though I wonder if you can perhaps add some elements to incorporate steam or something escaping out of the wasted tube and something to resemble the remains of the hiding wall.

[MOC] Another Coruscant scene
Commander Colt replied to Gerechtigkeitsliga's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Well that is certainly massive, magnificent and lorious, and I can't wait to see how it comes out! I am especially interested in seeing how the upper floor will be integrated and what kind of aesthetic it will use. -
I actually feel its fairly balanced over time, as I have the MTT as well as many BPs for both sides, though I do have to agree that recently there has been a trend for more and fancier clones in BPs. I am happy to have gotten plenty of the clone walker BP, as it had three plain clones for $10, alongside its weird little walker. Edit: To further add to the fact that there were plenty of places to get droids before, I also realized I have battle of Naboo which is another 10 battle droids

Very nice review, I am sure to get one of these to complement my pile of bomb squad troopers Not sure how i feel on the guns, i like the idea but the excecution seems a bit bulky and disproportionate.

I like how complete it is, from the color coordination to the underside, all the details seem accounted for, about as detailed as a UCS. The profile is also very sleek and the landing gear integrates well when retracted. I'm surprised that there is no way to reverse the direction of the end plate on the fin though.

I definitely like the wings, and the removal of the engines from the body, putting them further on the wings. I also enjoy the curved windshields on the side of the body, creating an interesting aesthetic. How mobile are the rear cannons? and why no astromech? I laugh at any attempts to build this for real with those hinges considering the size of the engines and wings.

Alpha 3 Nimbus Class Starfighter (The V-wing)
Commander Colt replied to Commander Colt's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I would love to! I even have a great design: However, This design, and any of that thickness, requires a very small angle, a seen with the 3x12 wedge on the left side, and the problem is, that I don't have enough of those wedges for such sharp and angled ship(as you can see by the missing wedge on the bottom of the ship)! All the other parts can be rearranged, shifted or found, but those wedges are necessary for such an angle. If you know of any way to improve my situation and get around that piece, that would be greatly appreciated! -
I enjoy this creation very much, especially the inclusion of the missiles in the open starfighter! Though I do have to ask, is the rear of the set the outside of the building or the inside, for me it looks like it could be either!

I want a Venator at UCS scale, but it will probably never come, the UCS community really prefers OT sets.
-
I can see this being a major issue for people who bricklink him though, seeing as his fig alone is almost the price of the original set! And I have to say the official one looks much better, and the change may have been a cost cutting thing as much as an error, especially if so many people have it. Although, the official pic may have the grey area simply not visible due to a too high brightness setting, and the only thing missing is the extension of the red parts, or the opposite could be true, and the red parts are there and are covered by a mistake where the grey extends down to the center from its edge, seen in the official pic.

I've gotten doubles (and more) of several BPs and have contemplated doubles of The Imperial V-wing, and I think a double of the Skiff would be appropriate, as there were two of them, and having just released the Jabba's palace, a new sail barge is probably not in the foreseeable future. And besides having two of something for recreation, some sets of which multiples are gotten is because of their pieces for use as part packs, for resale, or for their minifigs for armies.

First Thing first, I’m really sorry about the pictures, I know they’re pretty horrible, but I don’t have room or time or materials to set something up. Anyway, this here in front of you is an Alpha 3 Nimbus Class starfighter, better known by its common name, the v-wing. It is my first moc on this site, but earlier iterations of this craft are up on my Mocpages and can be viewed there. Thus, this is technically the fourth iteration of this craft and is essentially a mod of 6205 that has stretched over many years and gotten way more complex. This craft has had way too much time spent on it, and I still do not feel that it is complete. I am saying that this is the most detailed and screen accurate v-wing at the minifig scale, though at UCS there are a couple of nice ones including the fabulous one done by Brickdoctor. There are also a couple of very good ones at this scale as well, from Eric W. and EKO, but the majority are weak attempts and there is no multitude of excellent models as the x-wing has, with a brand new and even better looking moc coming out every week. Part of the problem lies in the lack of reference material for the underside and rear, which though it can be found takes time, and some references are different from others and it is hard to tell what is accurate sometimes. However, I have gotten this far, and would now like to make a list of complaints about my own model that I was hoping someone in this brilliant community could help with, kind of making this an almost finished WIP. Some problems can’t be fixed, but I believe most can. Another difficulty I have faced is the fact that while my star wars collection while not meager, is not the world’s largest and I have had to try to get around the fact that I don’t have many pieces that would fit much better in some places, and I have not made a single bricklink order for this ship, and have entirely relied on the hope that I can find the piece that I am looking for in my collection, as it is also not organized and some pieces that I have can’t be found. Anyway, I rant, and here’s my list of things that need improving: 1. The axle centers on the wings, the inverted domes, are red and do not come in dark red. 2. The wing hubs upon which the guns are positioned are too small and must be a 5 x 5 instead of the 4 x 4. 3. The dark red wing areas behind the hubs are incorrectly shaped. 4. The wings are too fragile and cannot keep the ship up. 5. The wing hubs are too thick and need to be slimmed down. 6. The connection between the hub and wings needs to be a tile not a rod, and be without the extra support. 7. The guns need small red tips 8. The small dark bley radiators around the engines need to be angled back 9. The top radiators need to be clipped at the bottom by thinner struts 10. The engine block needs to have a higher angle (however one that still keeps the cockpit sealed.) 11. The underside of the engine block needs more detailing, as well as four pipes in dark grey or bley (I don’t have enough wands or rubber pipes) 12. The axles need to be thicker 13. Maybe the cockpit needs more detailing but I have not seen a single cockpit view. 14. There need to be clips connecting the wing hubs to the hull, which would be easier with larger hubs 15. The dark red patch on the side of the hull with the symbol needs to be angled back 16. The underside of the hubs need wire detailing 17. Some colors are ambiguous in reference shots and may be off 18. That’s probably enough and if you didn’t read anything that’s ok too, the pictures are right ahead. There is room behind the pilot's chair for equipment, enough for a gun, binoculars and provisions. In this image you can kind of tell where I'm still missing a piece that I just can't find. Next Up are a couple of reference shots that illustrate my point. More images can be made available, at the same horrible quality upon request, although that was probably way more than necessary. The reference shots are links on my third version on http://mocpages.com/moc.php/285772 Thanks for reading, and plenty of Comments & Criticisms requested.

I have to put in a vote for the clone commando troopers as the!y are one division of non standard clones that look really cool and different and aren't individuals and so can be added in large numbers without confusion to an army! http://images.wikia.com/starwars/images/a/a5/RC_copy.jpg

What're your favorite and least favorite Star Wars sets?
Commander Colt replied to Loco de Lego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I happen to agree with many of the sentiments shown above and have some of my own to add. While I do feel that some of the earlier star wars sets weren’t great, I have something to back it up- my own desires when I was a child. I was in the prime target range in the early era of star wars, and I can tell you that even though I was gifted two of the sets from that range, Naboo Swamp and Anakin’s Podracer which I greatly enjoyed, I did not desire the others in the range and saw them as blocky and misshapen. It wasn’t until the EPIII started rolling that I saw potential in Star Wars, and though I saw many sets that could have been good, I chose the one that I saw at the time as the best value. That happened to be a V-wing, the first and only time that an entire star fighter was sold for ten dollars. Pessimists in the reviews all yelled at it for its shape, and yet it had all the basics that a kid needs, a ship that he could buy for his own money and that he knew he would enjoy. The people on this board are not the target audience, and the majority of hate spewed on the Hoth sets seems to be on their style as play sets with no unifying canopy. Kids don’t need that, they just need as much action, and features as they can into one thing, and that goes hand in hand with the rise of the dreaded flick fire missile. Others here rage on The Twilight, and I could see people potentially hating sets with Jar-Jar for his inclusion, but that may be due to weak source material. A lot of the problems people are having with the earlier sets are the minifigs, and that is because we have been spoiled in those terms. As the years have progressed we have reviewed sets and called all the latest minifigs the most beautiful and shown Lego that what we really want are good minifigs. Yet, as the minifigs became more detailed the prices on sets went up, we wanted printed elements yet knew that they would make the price go up, we wanted curved slopes, yet they would make the price go up. So as we have been getting more and more, we have also been paying more and more and in the end the attention to minifigs has created some ships that were below par and were overlooked as people gazed at the wonderful printing of the minifigs, with a glaring example being the thirty dollar price hike between the second and third iterations of the Slave I, where the ship barely changed and got little designer love, while the minifigs became so much more detailed and desired, that Lego was able to successfully resell a ship, with newer minifigs for Thirty Dollars More. However, the set that I believe, after all that that was truly the worst, I would have to agree with Ultimate duel, even though as I say, we are nowhere near as a target audience, I remember that when that set came out I was in the target, and I can tell you I did not want it at all. Out of the sets that I have actually owned, I would have to say the biggest disappointment was, and this is partially because I thought long and hard before every purchase whether I really wanted a set, was the 6212(?) Imperial Star Destroyer, because for me the minifigs were average and the set itself wasn’t spectacular in its given state, but the real deal breaker for me as an out of box set, I changed it soon after and found it much more to my liking, was its impracticality. It was the flagship set of the range, a giant monstrosity that every kid, having seen EPIV wanted to use to bear down upon another ship, and it simply was not moveable. This ship had such a flimsy bottom area, probably part of the reason it was at the same time a really good deal and the last time a flagship set could be had for a hundred dollars, that it was immobilized by its own mistake and while it did look great just sitting there, that was not its purpose. It had failed its purpose. Sorry about the really long rant, but it is now over and you may go back to your day , if you have not already done so. -
How much is your SW collection worth?
Commander Colt replied to Admiral-Ackbar's topic in LEGO Star Wars
$3029, in 161 sets of which 34 are star wars, my rough estimate lands it at $837 for star wars and 4 are from 1999-2000 while the rest are 2006-2012, and mine is so not worth insuring when most is in a giant pile waiting to be shuffled through, hoping to find that one long lost piece. However, most of it is in my brother's hands, sitting in heaps in his room. -
Based on those screenshots I can easily see Lego using standard black katana for the set and not worrying at all, with yours, if you could redo it I would use a trimmed dark bley hilt so that it is skinnier as well as a black katana attached interest same way but with crossguard left as is. Ifyou really wanted to go all outafter that you could try to cut the notches in the back of the blade and try to paint the blade with a shiny gloss mixed with some white to try to recreate the glow around the blade.

I Love the design, how the greeting meshes with clean lines of the walls and how the various random pieces come together to create an orderly clutter. The design of the piece comes about as close to movie accurate as you can get, and the placement of the minifigs perfectly shows their relationship and status.
-
Love the detailing and just how different they can look while being based on the same size. I wonder what scale this is mood scale?
-
Very nice art, I especially like the well decal covered art trooper. I think the legs came out well, as did the weapon, but I think that the side armor on the front is a but too big
-
Excellent moc of large capacity and depth. But you can only wonder... how do those dewbacks survive in that terrible cold?
-
The sarcasm is strong in this one... So why hasn't anybody modded the UCS Falcon to add rows upon rows of these, there are plenty of areas to put them?

Hunting Qui-Gon Jinn micro-chibi style
Commander Colt replied to Dapper-D2's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The style of the build takes a rather unconventional approach to a fairly single sided ship. The menacing design, size and shape of the original is instead replaced with a cartoonish look that blows up the cabin and shrinks the rest to make a design that is laughable and yet elegant at the same time. The Maul and speeder bike simply complete the hilarious ridiculousness that somehow makes sense and makes this moc a very fun one. -
No matter the fact that he may have taken many ideas from one source or another, the combination of those plus his own ideas has created a design that is a masterpiece and the best one of its kind, from the smooth transitions of color on the correctly proportioned head, to the spindly yet menacing design of its weapons and legs, and even to the menacing eyes that watchfully notices all motion.
