  1. Great review of a great set! What a moment in LEGO history, The first new pirate set review in over 10 years! Pirates are back baby! I love all of the new pieces, such as the telescope, new fish, new plume and the dynamite. Plus, the minifigs are superb with the detailed torsos with both front and back printing. I do hate the palm tree though.. It's lovely that it's modular, that opens up lots of possibilities. Thanks for the review! (Even though I've seen it already. )
  2. I'll definitely try a fountain! The roses also sound good, I'm quite excited to start on the courtyard, as I always like landscaping.
  3. Must not have been my post office then..... Very nice work on the van and office Mariko! The P.O. boxes look great, and like CopMike said, it has a really nice clean look to it. Nice idea with the bulletin board. It actually reminds me of the post office in the city in Germany where my relatives live, except with different colors.
  4. ISC, with the courtyard, are there any specific guidelines I need to keep in mind besides the size? Such as, do I need to add technic pins and is there one specific thing I need to include. Also, did you want to add my name in the first post next to the courtyard, butcher and jeweler? As for the space in between the outer wall and keep, I definitely think some landscaping would be nice. Perhaps some chickens pecking around like in next year's medieval market place.
  5. Thanks guys! I'm working on making a water background for the first picture, so that should connect the ship better. Next time I will certainly try and incorporate the blood into the water. As for the backwards-rowing man, he is meant to escape but I wanted to make his scared face visible. With the cleanish sails, I figured that since all of the official LEGO pirate ships have clean sails, then mine should as well. I don't think pirate sails were always dirty, that way they probably wouldn't work too well. Thanks again for the comments!
  6. I ordered some pick-a-brick pieces from LEGO S@H, produce and crates for my medium PtV contest entry and then some other pieces, mainly arches.
  7. Now that's what I call gruesome! Nice SNOT and blood effects, it really fits the contest theme well. The idea of a real "bloodbath" is rather disgusting... Some improvements you could make are: 1) Putting some black tiles on the railings would match the rest of the SNOT better. 2) The first picture is a bit chopped off at the bottom. I would maybe re-take it, so that it's easier to see it all. ================================================================== Very good work on your entry!
  8. How would you improve the sails? I plan on keeping this as is, because I still need to finish my small and medium entry, but I'd like to know what to do next time around.
  9. If you read all of the last few pages, they are posted numerous times.
  10. Thanks JimButcher! The sails are actually made of cloth, not paper. It's interesting, no one seems to like the sails, but I was pretty proud of them. Oh well, everyone can have their own opinion! Thanks again for all of the comments everyone! I really appreciate it.
  11. That's brilliant! Very accurate and... well.. cute!
  12. That's what I figured. Thanks Thrash!
  13. Nice review of a very interesting set CopMike! The design of it is actually quite nice. I wish that TLG would release more promo sets to the public...
  14. I'll try it later today. It might be a bit tough with all of the little holes on the ship though. Thanks!
  15. The sets look great, but I can not believe TLG is using the 4+ palm tree!? Besides that, I'm really pleased about the way these look! Hopefully we will get some more modular things in the future.
  16. ISC, I would be glad to make thumbnails, but I'm not sure how. I know how to make large picture links, so I assume you just have to resize them? Care to enlighten me? You have me down for the Butcher, Jeweler and courtyard right? I probably won't get them done for a few weeks though, as on Saturday I'll be leaving for vacation 1 week.
  17. I love the idea behind your entry. The trail of gunpowder is brilliant! It's also the first one I think to use fleshies. The worn roof is beautiful and the pathway is as well. I can't really think of much to improve, but here. Some things you could improve are: 1) The main thing I would do is add some plants on the right side, as it looks a bit bare. 2) I think it would be wise to include bigger pictures rather than the small ones, as the small ones make it hard to see all of the details. 3) Putting a small trans-orange piece on the end of the black stick that the pirate is carrying, would give a great torch effect that would add a lot. Or you could use a dark brown carrot with a flame like in the Indiana Jones sets. ================================================================ But, even with no changes, your entry is magnificent. Good humor, action and nice design make it an A+ MOC!
  18. I play the drums and piano as well! I really enjoy recording myself playing piano, and then recording drums on top. Nice idea for a topic!
  19. Nice improvements! The tiles make it look much better.
  20. Thanks everyone! Zorro and Guss, normally I would change the sails, however I'm not going to because I'll be leaving on saturday to go on a trip for a week and I still need to finish my medium and small entries, and I won't have much time to re-take and edit all of the pictures. Plus I kind of like them how they are. As for a digital background, I really wanted to do that, but the way the MOC was positioned (sort of vertical) it looked quite strange. Although, do you think it would look okay if the whole thing was in water? That would be easy to do. I suppose it could be a small island. I may do that!
  21. Thanks for the comments! Guss, what do you not like about the sails? Provisorak, what do you mean by this? The ship is certainly part of the entry, but with only 6 picture, I wanted to focus on the main part of the entry, which is the island. However there are many more pictures of the ship on my Flickr page. EDIT: Ooops! I just realized that I only have 5 pictures, I'll add one more of the ship.
  22. Vig. 35c A ruthless gang of pirates sail towards a tropical island with hungry appetites... They set foot on the island and start to gather the ingredients for a recipe they like to call... "Bloody Stew" Few natives survived.... Ye be findin' many more pictures o' this on me Flickr page. Thank ye for hostin' such a great contest me hearties! Good luck to everyone!
  23. Dan Church told me he didn't have the time to build the butcher and the jeweler, so there's only me now. So Arawos, feel free to try the butcher out if you want, and then the community can vote on which one to keep.
  24. If you look in the "New Pirate Sets found!" thread, the prices are listed there. I'll paste them for you, 6239 - Cannon Battle $6 6240 - Kraken Attackin' $10 6241 - Loot Island $20 6242 - Solders' Fort $50 6243 - Brickbeard's Bounty $100 8396 - Soldier's Arsenal $3.50 8397 - Pirate Survival $3.50 Pretty good prices in my opinion.
  25. Nice entry Buttons! I like the ramshackle hut with all of the plants and the floating head is fun. Some improvements you could make are: 1) If I were you, I would re-take the pictures, as they are rather blurry. Perhaps you could put 2 big pieces of white paper down for your background, so one can concentrate better on the subject of the picture. 2) Definitely give the soldier a weapon so he's not defenseless angainst the ruthless pirate! 3) The minifig's heads look a bit to friendly for the circumstance. If you have some meaner, angrier faces you should certainly use them. 4) You could put some trans-red plates or tiles next to the floating head to emulate blood. 5) The one grey tile on the left of the sand stands out a lot. You should probably change it to yellow. 6) Lastly, I would like to see a bit more of a story behind your entry to add some excitement and interest. =================================================================== You've done a good job on your entry, and I think with a few improvements and better pictures, it will be even better!
