Great review as usual Brickster! This is a really nice set I think. A lot of nice little vehicles, some good plants, and it just has a great outdoors feel to it. I rate it a very solid 4. Thanks for the review!

Presenting the second review in my 4 part series of Adventurers reviews, 5920 Island Racer! Baron Von Barron roars down the island's roads in his roadster! Will his car win, break down, or be beaten by his mystery opponent? Let's find out! 5290 Island Racer Set Info: Set Name and Number: 5920 Island Racer Theme: Adventurers Released: 2000 Pieces: 44 Minifigs: 1 Price: Around $5 originally. You can currently get this set on Bricklink for about $12. =========================================================================== Instructions: The instructions are a small fold-out page. On the front is a picture of the car driving down a rocky road. Inside, the paper has sort of a treasure map print on it. The back has a little comic with alternate models pictured. The Minifig: Here is the Baron himself! I really like this minifigure, as it has nice white epaulettes, a lovely hook hand and a head complete with moustache, scar and a monacle. Parts: A decent selection here, the red rounded piece is very interesting, that dark grey car front is nice and the wheels have a nice design. Complete Car: This is what you get when the car is all built. I really like the way the rounded dark grey pieces look when put together. In the front is a nice engine, made by sticking grey tap pieces in headlight bricks. One thing that's a bit strange is that the large red plate sticks out 1 stud on each side, the overall look though is very nice. The front piece is great in that spot. Here you can see the engine pretty well. I think it looks great for such a simple design. I think that the backside is a bit odd. That handle seems a bit large and I think some tail lights might have been nice. And everything together! Now for the all-important ratings! Price: 9/10 (I can't rate this completely accurately, but the current Bricklink prices are fair, so I'm sure the original price was pretty good.) Pieces: 7/10 (Nothing too special, but still decent.) Design: 8/10 (It looks quite nice for the small amount of pieces it has, especially the engine.) Playability: 8/10 (No special gimmicks like everyone's favorite "Flick-Fire Missle" , but it's always fun to roll cars around.) Build: 9/10 (Quick but solidly built.) Minifig 10/10 (A really great minifig for a small set.) Overall: 51/60 Bricklink Brickset Start your engines! Baron von Barron has finally found an opponent worthy of racing him. It's none other than our favorite underwater character! "Who drives in a leafy car on all the roads?" ======================================================================= Overall, I think that this is a very nice small set. It has a great minifig, a prettty good car design and good colors. I would certainly recommend it for a small Adventurers set. Stay tuned for part 3, 5925 Pontoon Plane! Thanks and happy building!

I think that it would be great if you were to put some trans-clear plates in the bucket to look like water. That way it would look more like he will be cooked in my opinion. Nice work putting more pictures in the thread, that's a nice improvement. I still think you could have a story with a bit more substance, but that's not a big deal.

Nice work Lego Parrot. I really like the speared skeletons, they look very spooky. The large rock BURP is well-used in your entry. However, there are quite a few things that could be improved upon. Some things that you could improve: 1) You can actually deep-link up to 6 pictures in your entry thread. I think you should do this so the viewer can see all of the details. 2) I think it would be nice if you wrote a little intro or story behind your entry, so that people can understand what exactly what's going on. 3) Do you perhaps have 2 pieces of white paper you could put down for a clean photo background? 4) I'm not sure what the man is doing over the barrel, but I think there should be something in the barrel that corresponds to what he's doing. ========================================================================== I think the main thing you could fix at this point would be to add a few more pictures to your entry thread and to write a little story behind your entry. Then it will be easier to appreciate what's happening. The entry looks pretty good I think. Good luck!
-
I think your entry is pretty good. Your entry's idea is very cruel and your water is lovely. The arm in the pan is hilarious! Improvements you could make with your pictures: 1) I think you definitely need to work on the blurriness of your pictures. You could probably fix it by adding some more light and making sure to use the macro feature on your camera. It would be nice if you put some white pieces of paper down for a nice clean background as well. 2) The first picture will be the one that is judged, so make sure that you make it a good one that shows all of your entry. 3) Make sure not to include more than 6 pictures in your entry thread. I think you currently have 7. You can put a link to a brickshelf or other photo hosting site folder in the thread though. ================================================================= Entry advice: 1) I would recommend using a different torso for the man with the chopped arm. If you have a soldier or islander torso, that would probably be best. 2) Maybe you could add a palm tree in one of the corners for some plant life. ================================================================= I think that your entry is pretty good, and some better pictures and a few touch-ups would make it even better. Good luck!

Happy Birthday great Reviewer's Academy member! Hope you had a great day! And to all other people with a birthday today, have a good one!

Very good entry Patriot720! Your SNOT sand and dirt is very nice. It's good that you included a palm tree, because it fills up the space nicely and adds some color. The story behind your entry is also fantastic, that certainly is a sleepy soldier! Under the arch, those pieces add a lot of detail. Even though some people may not be a big fan of it, I love how you incorperated the red from the imperial's colors into the fort as well. Some improvement ideas: 1) I'm not sure, but it could be a good idea to have 1 dead soldier on the ground that the pirate killed. 2) The way you made the torch from the fort light the dynamite's fuse is great, but I would have the torch laying where the fuse is. Where it is now, it looks more like it's just sitting there. 3) Maybe put a parrot on top of the tree if you have one. ====================================================================== I think you did a wonderful job with this. It has great design and nice colors, plus a good story to go with it. Good luck in the contest!

I love it! Lots of humor and a really nice ship. I laughed quite a bit when I read it. Good work!
-
That's a great idea with having some "caviar" in the bathtub. I think the studs look fine, they add a bit of texture like you said.

If you don't want to wait for your gallery to be moderated, you could just deep-link them. To do that, just click on the picture on your brickshelf account until you can't anymore, then copy the picture's web address. After that, here in the post window, click on the little button with a sunset picture on it above the post window, and follow instructions from there. Here is a tutorial on this if you weren't able to understand my directions: Deeplinking tutorial Hope this helps!

Very nice entry Sandy! The bulidings are beautiful and so is that curved bridge. It also has plenty of action which makes it fun to look at, plus your cannon fire and dock are brilliant as well. You did a good job with that baseplate, I wouldn't have thought of that myself. Those guys hanging off of the building on the right made me laugh! Your entry just has a really nice village feel to it. Some improvement ideas: 1) I'm not so sure about the usage of all of the Castle minifigs... You may not have enough actual pirate figs, but perhaps you could use a few more that are more neutral. 2) Personally, I also think some more blood would be nice, to add more cruelty. If you don't have enough trans-red, I'm sure plain red would look just fine. 3) Where the water hits the sand, I think some white plates or tiles placed sort of randomly by the beach would be much better than the sand blue grills. 4) I think it may look nice to make the sand extend all of the way to the dock, since it looks so nice. 5) Do you perhaps have a few more boats to put in the water? I think that would fill it up nicely. ======================================================================== Overall, I think you did an amazing job with your entry! Great buildings, wonderful story and like I said, it looks like a charming little village. Nice work and good luck!

Hah! Now that's what I call a hilarious and creative entry! You made a really good story, which I enjoyed reading a lot. The color scheme of the building is great and I love all of the details you've included, like the octopus and the fish on the walls. Those skeleton arms work nicely as well. The little pedastle where the caviar sits is beautiful with the gold, that new spyglass piece is extremely useful isn't it? You did a great job with the water area. especially with the crystal skull coral, that's just brilliant. Good usage of the new minifigs and pieces, I just got some of the new impulse sets at TRU today and they are absolutely fantastic! I really hope that this line continues for a long while. Improvements you could make: I honestly can't think of anything you could improve here. Your entry is just fantastic, tons of great humor, cruelty in a different way besides blood and just lovely design. The only thing you could possibly do would be to add a skeleton head in the water, but it's probably not worth it. Stunning work, and I must say, probably my favorite small enrtry up to this point! Good luck, but I don't think you'll be needing it!
-
It's definitely good that you tried! There's never any harm in that. You probably could at least make a great medium or small division entry if you wanted to. That wouldn't require so many pieces or minifigs.
-
Today at TRU I managed to pick up 2x Pirate Survival and 4x Soldier's Arsenal. Besides that they only had Kraken Attackin and Loot Island, but those were both sold out, or not in yet. I'm very happy!

I'm afraid your entry doesn't fit in the contest theme very well. For example you have City torsos, Castle knights, Indiana Jones torsos and some of the buildings don't fit the time period too well. I would suggest you have another look at the rules, and then adjust your entry accordingly. It doesn't look bad at all, it just needs to be fixed to be in the pirates theme. Here are a few first things that could help: 1) I would definitely try to include only pirate or imperial minifigs, and some townsfolk. That's the first thing that makes a MOC go in the Pirate theme. 2) The building in the back looks a bit too modern with the glass windows. Maybe try and add some older looking things, the Castle or new Pirates line have many good pieces for that. Good luck!

Nice work! The white bubble looks much better than the tan did. I'm waiting until the 1st to open mine as well. Only 1 more week!

Thanks everyone! I fixed the set number KimT. Provisorak, I forgot that a picture gets resized here to 640 x 480 anyway, so there's no point in making it 800 x 600. I'll make sure to take them at 640 x 480 next time, which is what I normally do anyway. Thanks again! I'll probably have part 2 up later today or tomorrow.

Presenting the first review in my 4 part series of Adventurers reviews, 1183 Mummy and Cart! Johnny and his friends have been wandering the desert for days on end, searching for food... Suddenly they see something in the distance, perhaps help!? They get closer, and suddenly realize it's nothing but an old mummy wandering around with a little cart. Let's research him a little more. Maybe we will make a scientific discovery! 1183 Mummy and Cart Set Info: Name:1183 Mummy and Cart-Was also released as set #3021 Theme:Adventurers Released:1999 Pieces:17 Price:??? I would assume $3.50 as it's an impulse type set. ========================================================= First, the instructions. Just a simple image of the mummy pushing the cart in the desert. The instructions have an interesting papyrus look to them. Minifig With this set you get the pharaoh's mummy. He has really nice printed legs and helmet, a good torso print and a good mummy head that has many uses. The mummy carries some sort of a ceremonial stick. If you can figure out what it is, let me know. Pieces Even though there aren't too many pieces, for an impulse set, the selection is quite nice. Some of the more interesting ones are a lovely printed map, 2 nice wheels and a gem. The Cart Once it's built, the cart looks pretty nice, albeit a bit strange with a map and a gem sticking out from a tan slope. All together: I'm not quite sure what exactly the mummy is doing here... By the off chance you figure it out, please do let me know! It's nice that the mummy can hold on to the cart well, and that way it stays level. ======================================================================= Now, for the final verdict! Price: 7/10 (As far as I know, it's priced the same as other impulse sets which are decently priced.) Pieces 9/10 (For an impulse set, you get some nice pieces with this.) Design: 7/10 (The cart looks good, but I'm not sure what it's really supposed to be.) Playability: 6/10 (There's not much to do beside push it, and that's not even too easy.) Overall: 29/40 Since I couldn't figure out what the cart is for, I modded it a bit, and made my own story. King Tut got tired of the same old afterlife routine of pushing a little cart around, so he decided to change things up a bit. Presenting the newest hit snack stand in ancient egypt, Tut's Treats! Oh look! Our first customer! For an impulse set, I think this is a very nice one. I've always liked Adventures sets and this one is no exception. Thanks, and happy building. Stay tuned for part 2, 5920 Island Racer

Wow! Great work infomaniac. Lots of action and lovely details. The ship has nice sails and rigging, and I really love the SNOT deck, that looks just beautiful. Your color scheme that you used for the ship is perfect in my opinion. I like the usage of white horns for waves and the trans-blue flames washing up on the beach, they turned out very well. The little imperial tower is very well-designed, the red bricks provide some nice texture and contrast. I like the hanged pirate and the dock/walkway a lot as well. Some improvement ideas: 1) I think your entry could use some more bloody bodies laying around, just for some more cruelty. ============================================================================== Frankly, I can't find anything remotely close to bad in your entry. It's a beautiful work and I think that you stand a great chance in the contest. Good luck!
-
I certainly don't think he needs to tile the fort, but I thought it might match the rest of the entry better. Anyways, I think we all agree that you did well with your improvements!
-
Nice job! The new blood effects look much better and your new pictures show the entry in a much better way. 1 more improvement idea: 1) On the rocky fort, I think it would look much better if you were to put grey or dark grey tiles or 1 x 1 slopes on the exposed studs for a smoother look to match the rest of the entry. ======================================================================== Good work on the improvements, and all the best in the contest!
-
Much better Davy Blocks. The white makes it much easier to see the subject of the picture, and the addition of more animal and plant life is very welcome. A few last ideas: 1) Personally, I think it would be best to use either only yellow or only tan for the sand, as when they are mixed it looks a bit odd. 2) The first picture is at a perfect angle, but is a bit blurry. Since the 1st one is the one that will be judged, you might want to re-take it. 3) Do you perhaps have some little white plates or tiles to place near the shoreline to look like waves? ============================================================================== You did a great job with your improvements, and I think they give you a much better chance in the contest. I once again wish you good luck!

I hope I didn't come across as rude... If so, you have my sincere apologies.

That's fine. I actually think it's a very funny and good idea, I just think it doesn't fit the time period well, but who knows, he could have been a pirate inventor!
