EB Community Castle Build: Discussion Thread
Erdbeereis replied to I Scream Clone's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
We should definitely edit the first post to include the new guidelines when we decide on them, for easy access if we forget. I know a good technique for hay bales. Just hold a bunch of yellow bars together with a rubber band. -
CONTEST: Pillage the Village - Terms & Conditions
Erdbeereis replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
You can only post 6 pictures in your entry thread, but you can post more in another folder such as Brickshelf or Flickr, and post a link to it in your entry thread. -
That's looking absolutely stunning DNL! The tower is my favorite part, especially the crumbling rocks. There are just so many wonderful details in here. This is by a long way the best entry so far! I eagerly anticipate final photos!

Nice entry for a first time Zepher! Your brick-built toucan is lovely and the planks on the dock look great as well. Here are a few improvements you could make. 1) The blue tiles on the gangplank give the effect that the planks are an extension of the dock, thus making it look slightly strange angled like that. This problem would easily be solved by switching out the blue tile for brown, black or even gray, just for a contrast to the water. 2) I actually like your idea behind this, but feel most members will think that this isn't gruesome enough for Pillage the Village. So I think you may want to reconsider your entry. I think you can pull this out in the end though! Nice work!

I didn't realize that! That is really weird! Sorry to take away from your glory.

You got a problem with that?

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.... Luke Skywalker and his merry gang join us today in reviewing the X-Wing Fighter. Will Luke manage to blow up the Death Star? 6212 X-Wing Fighter Set Info: Set Name: 6212 X-Wing Fighter Theme: Star Wars Released: 2006 Pieces: 437 Price: USD 49.99-EUR I'm not entirely sure, but one place said 69.99-GBP 39.99 Minifigs: 6 Review time! We'll start with the box. First, the front, which shows the X-Wing flying through space being chased by TIE Fighters. It also shows an image of the minifigs included with the set. Now, the back which has some of the features of the set, along with a picture of the sets that were released alongside this one back in 2006. The instruction manual The picture on the front is the same image as on the front of the box. On the back is an advertisement for the LEGO Star Wars video game. The Minifigs With this set you get a whopping 6 minifigs, 3 of which are exclusive to the set. It's really nice to get so many figs with a set that's not ridiculously overpriced. The exclusive figs are: Wedge Antilles, Han Solo in a Hoth outfit (he has a nice parka and printed legs.) and Princess Leia in a Hoth outfit. The other figs are Luke Skywalker in a pilot's uniform, R2-D2 and Chewbacca . The minifigs that come with the set are great. Some interesting parts These parts are nice. A chrome lightsaber which I really miss, a nice printed slope with a picture of the Death Star's trench and some great printed tiles. One wonderful part about this set is that there are absolutely no stickers in this set, which is always nice. The Extras I think I must have missed where to put the red plate. All built! Here is the finished set! The design is very good. I think the LEGO designers did a great job getting the look of the ship right. The front part of the ship has an interesting angle made by some hinge bricks. Cockpit The cockpit can hinge up as usual. Here is the inside with the nice printed slope. Side Guns These are simple, but look really good. Engine Like the guns, the engines are simple, but have a nice appearance. The Back This is a good picture to see the x shape of the wings. You can also see the nice wing lifting mechanism, which works really well. To make it work, you turn the technic gear, which turns a piece, and then lifts up the wings. The tension is held by the rubber bands. It works really well and adds a lot of playability. The Nose Lightsaber Compartment This is a really nice feature, as often the lightsabers or weapons that you get with a set just lie around, easy to get lost. It's nice to have it right at hand. Customization Options Now we get to the "customization" you can do with the set. The set comes with a printed tile with 5 red stripes, which is "Red 5" Luke's ship, and also comes with red and white tiles so you can make "Red 3" Wedge's ship. Now it's time to bid our friends goodbye... Brickshelf Folder Now, for the ratings! Price: 10/10 (6 minifigs, a good number of parts and a Star Wars set for $50.) Parts: 9/10 (Not a gigantic amount of pieces, but many of them are quite large.) Design: 10/10 (It looks great and has lots of nice features.) Playability: 10/10 (Quite swooshable and the wing-lifting feature is great.) Build: 9/10 (Not too hard but still took a decent amount of time. Pieces are not in numbered bags though.) Minifigs 10/10 (6 of them, and 3 are exclusive. Hoth Leia and Han are really detailed.) Overall: 58/60 Brickset Peeron Bricklink LEGO S@H What will happen when R2 retires? Conclusion I have to say, this is an amazing set that any LEGO fan would enjoy. Lots of figs, good design and nice playability make this a set that I can highly recommend. Thanks, and happy building!

My Trip to the new Lego Store (lots of pics)
Erdbeereis replied to Numbuh23's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That's a great looking LEGO store! The Pick-a-Brick looks really good. -
Really nice entry Zorro! It's a very creative (and cruel) idea. The SNOT is very good and I like how you you offset the bricks to look unfinished. A few bits of advice: 1) I would also recommend changing the blue lamp to either black or brown, for a more natural look. 2) I think it would look slightly better if you switched out the gray tiles on the bottom for black, brown or even dark grey, because I think there's not enough contrast between colors at the moment. 3) It would be good to place the soldier in a position that looks more like he's placing the bricks in the wall, like others have said. I don't think it would block the view too much if you placed him bent over on the right edge of the MOC. This is a very nice entry, and I wish you luck in the contest!

EB Community Castle Build: Discussion Thread

I still think that some parts should be 16 x 16 and others should be 16 x 32. I'm a bit confused though by that wall idea you had Cagri. I don't understand what you do with that grey area. I do the the idea of having 3 enclosed walls. All I know, is the whatever we end up doing, it shouldn't be too confusing. Should I rebuild my blacksmith area once we decide on a new format? -
That's a really nice entry Newright! The SNOT is very good and you have included many nice details. A few improvements you could make are: 1)The rules state that you can only have 6 pictures in your entry thread, so I would try to fix that. 2) I would like to see one overview picture of the MOC, as it's a bit hard to see the actual structure of the MOC with so many close-ups. Your pictures are very nice and clear though. 3) There is not very much blood... I would certainly add some blood and a few more people being attacked and the like. It looks a bit like a peaceful town scene rather than a big massacre. If you take a few of these considerations in mind, I'm sure this will turn out to be a fantastic entry! (Even though it's already great) Good work!

That's a really nice looking MOC Cagri! Lots of nice details and a smooth look. Very good! KimT, how do we plan to procede from here?
-
Although the example images show it at this height....

Cagri, while I agree that often SNOT is the better look, for me it doesn't suit Castle so well. After all, all of the classic castle set everyone loves were nowhere near as studless as they are nowadays. However, there is no reason not to make it more SNOTy. Anyway here is my entry. I was going to use a few gray tiles to give a bit smoother look, but I didn't have quite enough. So here we go! Apologies for this crooked picture. The fire with some spare logs. The Blacksmith hard at work. "Don't interrupt me!" A finely crafted helmet. Crate O' Weapons. Some of the Blacksmith's handiwork. The festive covering. Thanks!

Review: 6048 Majisto’s Magical Workshop
Erdbeereis replied to dj2005's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Great review DJ 2005! This is a really nice old Castle set. The idea of a rocky mountain hideout is a good one, and the house has many more details than I would expect. The minifigs are great especially the dragon knight. Thanks for the review! -
That's looking much better! The main thing I would adjust if I were you, would be to make the bricks underneath the dock a single color, such as grey. Right now the red sticks out a bit too much. Nice improvement!

Happy birthday Timento and Marcus Aurelius Antoninus !

A quick question, are we supposed to make our MOC have 3 walls and a roof plus catwalk? And is the roof meant to cover the entire top? Or just the catwalk part? -
The imperials respond to the pirate attack...
Erdbeereis replied to Snake...SNAKE...SNAAAAKE?!'s topic in Pirate MOCs
Nice entry Snake! I really like the idea, and it is nice and gruesome. I can think of a few improvements to make: 1) I think it would look quite a bit better if you used some tan tiles for the sand, to give it a smoother appearance. 2) The tree could be a bit larger to add some more interest to the MOC. 3) You should add a bit of blood behind the man whose head is blown off. 4) The clear piece is a bit bulky in my opinion. Perhaps you could use a few clear round 1 x 1 plates, and make it a bit shorter. I think you have done quite well with this entry! -

I will try the blacksmith forge ISC. I'm a bit busy with Pillage the village, so pardon me if I don't make it. I'll try my best though! This is a very exciting idea! By the way, I think it would be good to give the participants at least 3 weeks or so to get their entries in. That way there is enough time if bricklink orders and the like are needed. -
I can barely see the images because of the size, but from what I can see, it looks pretty good! I will make further comments when you resize your pictures.

This is looking really good Guss! I enjoyed reading about the different characters, especially myself. The little village is great and has many details. The one single thing I can think of to improve, is to add more blood and guts. I can't wait to see the end result!
