Kaliphlin Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion

Got the GoH collectable minifigs up here. Also got another teaser for my project: perhaps a road paved with green marble? What do you think about this technique other than for swampy water? -
I can't believe its already time for Collectable Minifigure Series 9 photos to start hitting the web. So in the spirit of collectable minifigs, I present Series 2 of the GoH collectable minifigs. This time we get 4 guilds each in 4 catagories- The traditional warrior, educated civilian, nobility, and notorious enemy. Since I am from Kaliphlin I will start from the right and go to the left. 1st we have the Kaliphlin warrior in traditional garb. 2nd is Kaliphlin's educated civilian. 3rd is a representation of Kaliphlin's nobility. 4th is a Titan, arguably Kaliphlin's most notorious sentient enemy. Now lets cross Kaliphlin's northern border into Avalonia. 5th is a knight, the representation of Avalonia's traditional warrior. 6th is an Avalonian educated civilian. Who better to represent this catagory than an Avalonian monk? 7th is a member of Avalonian nobility. (Disclaimer: this is not an actual member of nobility. Because of the difficulty we encountered trying to schedule a portrait session with an actual member of Avalonian nobility, we had to settle for hiring an actor to dress in the clothes of Avalonian nobilty which was much easier to obtain. 8th but not least, is the notorious Avalonian brigand, expert at all types of weaponry. For Nocturnus we start with the series 9th character, the traditional Nocturnus warrior, a scarred human that is no stranger to war. In fact that may be all he knows. 10th is a Nocturnus educated civilian. Thats right! Nocturnus does have educated individuals. However they may not be educated in the way you would expect an educated being to be. 11th is a member of the nobility in Nocturnus. Blue eyed drow? They must have been the first to invent colored contact lenses.... 12th and you knew this one was going to be on the list. Another drow. Nocturnus' most notorious enemy as well as being a member of Nocturnus nobility. However this time our subject does not hide his glowing red eyes- here he is, the drow assassin. And because we were lucky to have escaped with our lives after the encounter, we are only able to provide you with a small portrait of him. Now we come to Mitgardia, a land of strong, hearty, and often times large folk. 13th of the series is the traditional warrior of Mitgardia. What more needs to be said? 14th is an educated Mitgardian civilian. Book learning probably won't get you very far in Mitgardia and those looked upon as being the most educated some times cannot spell their own names. However they can survive for months in the icy cold mountains and wildernesses of Mitgardia with nothing more than the clothes on their back. 15th is a noble of Mitgardia. Women in LEGO world usually tend to be taller than the men and this particular subject towers above the other women... I guess the Mitgardians like the tall ladies. 16th is the last of the bunch and not a particularly friendly fellow. As the species of the far north have not been well documented, I chose a member of one of roaming orc tribes as Mitgardia's notorious enemy. These are not your ordinary orcs. Bigger, stronger, and much furryer, you don't want to meet one and much less encounter a group of these fearsome beasts. May I call them "beast"?

Nice job so far! Great character combos goining in the first one and of course you had to have the famous Nocturnian yellow daffodils
-
Excellent job! I really like the curve of the wall and the accent colors. And that tree in the back is well done as well!

Really nice entry! The best parts IMO are the stained windows and the podium. I don't know why but the rounded staircase and podium reminds me a bit of the Grossmünster in Zurich although they really don't resemble each other that much. Great job!
-
Nice job! I really like the ramp and the small gondola! The bridges are a nice touch as they are of different design than the other entries! Nice job!

Petraea University - Hall of Ancient History
Mike S replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
Hmmm, I really liked what I saw the other day but now the pics aren't showing for me. From what I remember, the stained glass and floor pattern were excellent and the overall design of the building is great as well. The only thing maybe needing improvement, as has been mentioned is the entrance is a bit low. Nice job! -

It is a teaser... I wanted it to look faded like an old soiled cloth map where it is hard to make out some of the contents. (But you should be able to figure it out from my previous post ) As it turns out I'm going to have to wait for another bricklink order to finish this build but that probably works out well I might post a wip next week if I think the build has progressed enough to warrant one. Also I put together another GoH minifig series this week that is waiting to be photographed. 4 minifigs from each guild this time in 4 catagories- Traditional warrior, educated civilian, noble blood, and notable enemy. -

Nice work on those builds! I really like how your PU build turned out and I will comment on it when I get more time. But for now, a quick post. I was able to put in probably about five hours on mynewest MOC but I think I may run out of a certain piece before I'm finished. If I ever get one of those little comment tags below the avatar, it probably will end up "always one piece short" Anyway here is another teaser for the project... -

Thanks NM! I sadly did not make any progress on my MOC last night. Although I did a bit of sorting- twice (son doesn't quite comprehend the what I'm doing and seems to think that daddy is just having fun dumping pieces from one bin into another) Hoping to get working on it tonight but kind of dragging my legs as I completed the fun part of the build and now I need to get inspired for the boring rockwork which I am working out a way to add more color than the singular grey my rocks have been heretofore. As I am now away from my bricks until this evening, I have done a bit more of the story line which has given me more ideas of vigs I might want to incorporate into the story before the MOC I am presently working on- kind of a picture story kind of deal. I thought I would post the initial paragraph or so before any of the vig sections come to play: The Path to Kakushi-shō [From the notes of Mikel Kalores in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Greater Siccus Badlands] “I had already come to know Kaliphlin as a land of mysteries and adventure but I soon was to discover a long forgotten element of Kaliphlin, almost a journey to the past as it were, a place of beauty and peace, the way I imagine the whole of Kaliphlin existed before the Sea of Sand swept over the land. I had been exploring the area around Qarkyr and had made a short excursion back into the city to replenish supplies when to my surprise, I encountered my old friend Yesil. Unlike myself, he was not at all surprised to see me. “In the area, I heard were you,” he told me in his customary odd arrangement of wording, “Only a matter of time it was I knew, before to Qarkyr for supplies came you. Business in the North, have I and honored would I be if accompany me, you would.” I was quite surprised at this request and I thought it a bit odd but I could not even think of declining such a welcoming invitation. So it was, I made the necessary preparations for my squad to remain in Qarkyr with our supplies while I journeyed north with Yesil. We set off the following day and to my surprise, we exited Qarkyr through the eastern gates. I knew the only road north was to the west of Qarkyr and I made mention of this to Yesil. “North, we do go, but to the far north, we do go not,” was his reply. to be continued.... -

Sorry for the double post but I encountered a question while doing some background research on an upcoming MOC (I'm working on The Hitchhikers Guide to the Greater Siccus Badlands again however when you see the MOC you may wonder how this question is relevent but it is). How far is it from Petraea to Qarkyr? How many days would it take for a character to walk (not ride)? Silly question but I seem to have misplaced the map with the mile markers on it. -

Still waiting 'fingers drumming' @ Kai, nice vigs. I commented more in their topics. -
Nice classroom! You seem to be becoming an expert at posing minifigs and props! Great job on the sleeping student and I like the tan used for the parchment paper!
-
This is really a great little build! Although I do agree with Kai on some possible improvements. I was wondering what could disturb the peace at first as I had missed the wolfpack guy until I saw him in the slideshow! Well posed!

Nice entry! I've had this idea working itself out in my mind for a while now and I think seeing your studded tower may have helped me solve part of it. Just need to change some colors and add a bit of texturing.... Good luck in the contest! Btw that Rhino Nocturnian fellow made me chuckle
-
Nice addition to the story and I really like the build in this one! Using the boat for shelter is a great idea and you did a great job with the transition from water to land. It reminds me of the banks of the Nile for some reason. And great cliffhanger ending, now I have some questions you better answer in the following segments...

Thanks! Thanks! and glad someone doesn't mind the cardboard background Thanks! The one thing that bothers me about the stairs is the tiles I had to put across the front to cover the studs. But other than that I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. Thanks Kai! I was looking for another ornamental piece other than my usual 1x1 round plate and I think the lever base works well here. I've tried it elsewhere and it doesn't work out so well. Thanks! I feel this might be one of my best MOCs yet although the Black Pyramid might contend. Thanks! Your Varlyrio entry actual gave me inspiration for this. Thanks! For the record concerning the name change, I was trying to get more in the Kaliphlin spirit. From my research, Masa is Japanese name meaning true sand and being that I have started building a lot of sandy MOCs recently I thought the name fit. I also am really pleased with how the lamp posts turned out. I tried several different ideas for the lamp posts before settling on this design. Thanks Wedge! And in reply to all the "Thats a lot of DK red plates", I got all the DK red plates from a single Robie House when it was on sale at Amazon.

Don't worry, I'm not going to listen to you on this one... This build is now officially finished. -
Great compact build and story! I don't know but I kind of like the bearded elfguy... kind of smooths the transition from yellow to brown imo and definately a unique character. And the pose of the drunken thug, just excellent!

Avalonian Elf Army en route to Besiege Ondyllion
Mike S replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice army! I'm jealous of all those brown ear/hairpieces. I tried twice to get them for a decent price on bricklink, but both times the seller was MIA. -
Beautiful build! I think the angles are really what does it it for this build. And I like the natural look of the dirt and stone pathway down the center!

Great job! I really like how you designed the wooden parts of the structure, the snow on the roof, and the minifig posing with the turkey.
