1. Well you of all people should be able to understand! Maybe she was pregnant :'-( That does remind me of when I had fish...I added a "sharkfish" which I was assured would not harm my others, but would instead eat the algae. The next morning I found the SKELETONS of the fish (okay, not bone but chiton, same difference) on the bottom. I'm surprised you didn't find the same thing! How horrifying that was, I was only 6 :'-(
2. Well you are a preacher...:-P
3. Thank god this old thread was revived! My computer, along with my backup HD failed a few months back, and I thought I had lost all pictures of my puppy :'-( I had completely forgotten about this thread, and thanks to some miracle, I had posted a picture of him as a baby, and imageshack still has it *wub* I saved that right away :-D
4. Jipay probably changed your group when he said you looked like a man (or rather, your springfield character does)
5. Hm, well now I understand where your Pink Star went! You knew all along |-/ Edit:
6. I'm with you LAH. I'll be buying the red one because I have a red bionicle-laden project I'm doing :-P That's about it.
7. Good. While it's always fine to have a little fun, that was getting just a BIT too off-track.
8. Little girls? You're a bit older than me darling ;-) And I don't remember ever claiming to be a gentleman :-D
9. Actually they're the same guy, and yeah, designers have a very limited repertoire that they can work with, so why Lego feels the need to make huge new expensive molds when you can just build things out of what you have is completely beyond me Well no, that's personal preference about design. But tell me something, if that bike was a one-piece mold with no moving parts and completely useless in terms of MOCing, would that be merely a matter of "taste", or would that be Lego taking the cheap way out? They're cutting down on the number of pieces, making these huge molds that have fewer uses...I mean do you know what the foundation of Lego was? A BUILDING toy. IT was meant to be something you sat down and experimented with! The models weren't even the toy, they were more suggestions, you built what you wanted, you built what inspired you! You didn't need a comic holding your hand and telling you what to imagine, you used your own head! And now they're moving away from even the construction element! Or rather, they were...as you mentioned: So 2006 sold more? Hey, didn't it also have fewer huge molds than previous years? Weren't the build slightly more complex than the 2005? Ah, so maybe if they're going back to a more complex build, and if they're using more diverse parts, the whole deal with less complexity wasn't going so well afterall? Maybe they realized they were wrong. They seem to be ret-coning everything they've done in the last 7 years, and trying to go back to their original roots. And there very likely may be no bionicle in 7 years. Hell, even if they do continue this route of positive change it may end up dead. However the WORST thing a company can do is focus on the now, and the almost. You need to have your nose in the future otherwise you get blindsided by all these things you would not have been otherwise. Mind if I ask where you get your information on their target age group? Ah! So basically the community has spoken out against their ways of limited use parts, simple builds, and won over TLG, who has used Greg as their spokesman! Thank god! Now let's hope they can do the same with the storyline ;-)
10. Actually it looks more like this... But eh
11. Forget it - Breaking Benjamin *wub*
12. All I can say is that I fear for this child's future 8-|
13. Great review! This will be at least worth it for a parts pack...and extra 3PO chance ;-)
14. No worries :-D I really love that effect too
15. Thanks for this review, and that great little comic! About the skellies though (X-D), you have to admit that besides their long arms making the skellie legs look out of proportion, that they're just made poorly. They're sticking straight out, as opposed to every other fig, which have a slight bend to make them look more natural. Also, as I'm sure you've noticed, the pegs are on angles! That makes it impossible for them to hold their weapons straight, and they can't even put their arms over their heads without stressing the plastic some... I mean they're DEAD. Well, at least undead, they're not supposed to be stiff, and personally I like the ragdoll look more, it makes them seem more dead :-P
16. Wonderful review! You really thought to take pictures of everything :-D I'm still on the fence about this, I love the figs, I love the blue, but I'm not sure if I can justify the price! I either want to buy no market street, or two of them (one to keep together, one for parts)!
17. Actually those are just the "torch" pieces, also used as skateboard wheels, I think they've been around for a bit.
18. Ah, but what have you, or can you create just with Megabloks? I've seen a few that might use a piece here or there (mainly accessories though), but rarely anything made entirely out of them! Not to mention the quality, which has also been decreasing in Lego lately (which is why need to make sure it stays at least at the level it is at now). Pretty much the only time I've seen MB used were for an odd-colored cockpit, or a different connection (double-sided plate), more to accentuate the Lego than to make something in its own right ;-) I'd love to see what you're cooking up though!
19. I could've sworn 3PO was in it...oh well, my mistake :-$
20. Well I realized that I hadn't taken any fun pics in awhile, so I took my trusty D80 out on my balcony with me to take pictures on several different settings. First is everything normal (ISO 100, Aperture 36, shutter 30") Second up is ISO H1.0 shutter 30" Aperture 36 Third is ISO H1.0 shutter 30" Aperture 5.3 Last is ISO 100 shutter 30" Aperture 5.6 All taken at around 3:45 AM
21. The first is being overly negative where you wouldn't like something no matter what they did. The second is trying to get rid of the flaws so that they don't give you an inferior product because it has a larger profit margin. I guess you're not aware of the Ambassadors then? Yes, they're well aware what goes on in the AFOL community, and in fact it has HEAVILY influenced their products over the past few years. The chess sets? The SW battle packs? The cafe corner/market street? The Millenium falcon UCS? The new castle line which returned to their roots? All from AFOL complaining about what Lego wasn't doing right, and what they should be doing. What they wanted.
22. I think it's far from picking flaws in everything they do, but rather pointing out the flaws that exist. If we don't, and we just happily play with what they give us, they'll give us crap. If we don't show dissatisfaction we'll get basically Megabloks, which you can play with, but with which you can create nothing.
23. Or maybe since you apparently aren't a fan of MOCing (which is all about finding use in a useless piece) you don't see that MOCing itself IS fun. If you consider those "shooting missiles" and squids fun...well, that's an entirely different form of fun than actually building, which is what it was originally made for. Some pieces which are just so horribly designed that they can only be used for the original purpose are usually dumped eventually, or used in themes that don't require a lot of building.
24. He's right, although his code is wrong. Say you want to link to my review gallery for example [shameless plug] using the main picture of the review. If the picture you wanted to use for the link was: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/starwars4j/Reviews/Chess/chess0001.jpg And the link location of the review folder was: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=262900 You would simply type: To get: Also this really belongs in the website forum, I'll move it for you :-)
25. Except that's the main problem people have with these large specific parts: they're limited to very few uses. Didn't you just say that the larger parts aren't harder to use, that it's just his fault for not knowing how to MOC with them? And then you try to say that some parts just aren't useful for MOCing and why should they be? Hm, maybe because the WHOLE POINT of lego is to MOC and do things yourself with your imagination rather than relying on an instruction book? I swear, these younger kids need to be told how to do everything, now people are asking why you need to MOC? Almost all lego pieces were designed with proportions to be made to fit in some (or multiple) alternate way(s) to MOC with. Hell, that's the whole point to it! Finding these connections and new uses. I guess that means the points made earlier about useless one-use parts and crappy construction have even struck a cord with the designers then...
