I have recently bought a MISB set. It's a set released in the year 1983. When I got the set, one flap was already loose. Due to old age those seals sometimes tend to fail, as we all know. So I pulled the carton box out and noticed that there was a kind of substance on one or two sealed plastic bags. It is white and sticky. That substance was also on one stud of a bigger element in the box - some plastic bags lie on it -but I could easily wipe it away with my finger. I'm wondering what it is. It looks like sticky white paint. Upon contacting the seller he could assure me that both seals were intact when he got it, and he said he had never had a look at its contents, thus not knowing anything about the matter. I believe him since I've bought things from him before. Unfortunately, I cannot post any pictures. My cameria isn't good enough so that you'd be able to see what I am describing. So my question is whether you have had similar experiences. Have you ever had a MISB set in which you found dirty plastic bags matching my description... or have you come across other peculiarities with older MISB sets?

He means the gauge. LGB tracks have the same gauge as tracks produced by Playmobil.

That motor just makes me look like a fool! I've just tried it again, and guess what: Now it works! Maybe it's a loose contact. 1974 has already pointed out that the problem can probably be put down to a bad electric connection.

Thanks for your tips! Since there is electricity for the light brick, doesn't that already indicate that there is "juice"?
-
Hi everyone! Just today I noticed that one of the two 9V motors that power a Santa Fe engine each does not work. I have no idea why since the light of the affected engine is on. So there is electricity going through the cable that is attached to the motor at one end and to the light brick at the other. But the motor doesn't move. If you push the motor, it stops after a few centimetres... if you are lucky... although the speed regulator is set at full speed. And even it it moves for some centimeters, it isn't fast. I have no idea as to what could cause the problem and how to solve it. Just several days ago it still worked. But as I said: Electricity seems to go through the motor, otherwise the light brick wouldn't go on.

The oldest set you have ever found in a toy shop?
legotrainfan replied to legotrainfan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This thought made me begin a new thread! Would be wonderful to get some of the old sets for their original prices! ...I'm daydreaming! -
Sorry, I don't follow each topic, and I have just found out that I have never answered your question. As long as a set is not out of production, you can get any of its bricks by calling TLC's customer service. This way I also got the green BURPs as well as some other rare pieces for my replica of the Vestas Wind Turbine. As soon as a set has reached the end of its production cycle, certain special elements a set consists of are also no longer produced, of course. But they still have some spare parts in stock. Just call them to find out whether they still have the elements you need. Nowadays, there is a list of all the elements that are needed in the construction manual. And each brick has a number. Just tell them the number of the brick you need and the quantitiy you want.

What's the oldest set you have ever found in an ordinary toy shop/store? So Bricklink, eBay, etc. do not count! What I'm interested in: When was the old set you found released? What set was it? And in what year did you find/buy it? I'm just curious to find out whether some people still find sets from the 80s or 90s - or sets that are even older than that - in toy shops. Feel free to mention sets that were produced after the 90s! My question is: Is it still possible to coincidentally find any precious gems in such shops or not? I can just remember buying a Santa Fe waggon 10022 quite a while after it went out of production. However, I cannot remember the year when I bought it. I just know that prices for one copy of that waggon went up like crazy on eBay. And I got that waggon in a toy shop for the price it was originally sold.

Your collection wowed me! You have some precious gems! Interesting way of increasing the value of the house, by the way.

Hi everyone! I have been asking myself why there are limited release sets. As a child I bought King's Catapult 1917 and Train Cars 2126 with money I had saved. However, finding out about those sets was always a coincidence. The sets I bought were not listed in the LEGO catalogue. I just coincidentally saw them in shops and I simply thought that I had to have them. What's actually the idea behind such sets? The copies that were produced were limited in number and that way I - and I assume many others - missed a lot of great sets. In the past I knew nothing about the existence of Train Station 2150, for instance. When Metro Station 4554was discontinued, I thought, "Now it's not available any more!" I didn't know that an identical version in red was released after its discontinuation. But I have recently bought the red one. But why not releasing such great sets in larger quantities? Why does TLC produce limited edition sets? I am just a bit frustrated because I missed some brilliant limited releases. Reason for edit: typo/word order

That's a really wonderful engine shed! And it's also nice to see that you didn't forget about humans' special needs: the restroom!

At first glance that excellent railway station looks quite simplistic. However, after a while you notice how much thought actually went into it. There are lots of little details that make the railway station look extremely realistic.

My two engines, each equipped with a 9V motor, pulled 6 waggons. But I used two speed regulators. If you only use one, the two motors won't go as fast as with a second speed regulator connected to the rails. However, I didn't let the whole train run for an eternity. So my motors never overheated. A while ago I disassembled two waggons, but this had something to do with space rather than with the output of the two motors.

Brilliant buildings! You also added a bus stop! That's a nice detaill! I'm wondering how much it would be to get all the necessary bricks for that masterpiece!

You got your childhood collection back? Who had it all the time? Or was it in your parents' attic or basement? Your collection looks as if it is in great condition. Some of your instructions look like new. You've got some great sets! Enjoy building all those gems!

Oh my goodness! Those locomotives are simply beautiful! And there is no problem when they are on curcy track? Can they go through curves? And how fast are they actually?

I bought 10224 Town Hall... and I am going to get another copy of that small Chima set, namely Ewar's Acro fighter. I already got one when I ordered two copies of the magnificent Horizon Express a while ago. Actually I should be happy about getting a LEGO set for free, but I am not really into the Legends of Chima theme.

The Emerald Night has one or two constructional flaws. They might be the cause for the problems you are experiencing with that set. Use the search function to find threads about the Emerald Night... or you can read what is written here.

Antp, I don't know what I like better! Watching the trains running on your layout or the cat that is trying to figure out what to do with them. Cats are so curious and so playful.

I bought two copies of the Horizon Express.

End Of the World: Here We Go
legotrainfan replied to KotZ's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Is it blood? I thought it was magma moving its way up and thus appearing on the surface of the Earth through a mighty opening in its crust. This would explain why a minifig is slowly disappearing in it.- 7 replies

Some may be envying our US friends since this magnificent set is already available in America - I think I also belong to those - but, fortunately, Jan. 1st is a wonderful date anyway! I think many of us will stay up anyway because of it being New Year's Eve on the day before its release and, after enjoying the fireworks that are set off to introduce the new year, we can rush to the computer and order what we have long been waiting for! ...or are you just staying awake to buy the Horizon Express?! I'd not be surprised if I got a 'yes' as a reply from some people!
