That's one of the most BS reasons for a proto drop I've ever heard of.

Quoted for truth. The color scheme and aesthetics are probably the most important things to me in judging a theme- two things that can be pretty well described... In terms of the Power Police, I've still got a torch and pitchfork reserved for such an occasion.

I agree. UFO figs are great. Nice variety, too. We had five different kinds in one theme! It's true, different themes appeal to different people, and I too am glad LEGO's trying new ideas. Also, does this count?

Hm, I wonder if I have some of that laying around...

1- To be fair I didn't have the Alien Avenger, but it looked a little strange to me. I did have all of the sets besides the two biggest ones, and I loved 'em all. Minifigs are the strongest part of the theme IMO. 2- Definitely more of a 50s style here. You're probably right. 3- Well, I understand that line of thinking, but after all is said or done I still prefer my Recon Robot to any of the manga-style Exo-Force models I've seen. I think it's possible we'll get another mecha line in the future, possibly much better, but given the sales of Exo-Force it'll be awhile.

Tumor? :P Well, we definitely differ in tastes. I think Malum's aesthetics are some of the best I've seen from Bionicle in ages. He actually looks like a fire warrior. I agree that Gresh is awesome tough. I have Strakk, and I love him. His axe is just too cool, and like Malum, I actually believe he's an ice warrior.

Really? I think pretty much all of the Glatorian are better than him... and I'd never get him over Malum.

Ew, Tarix looks even worse in real life.

It's true, different people enjoy different reviews. My theme reviews are very text heavy because, well, when you're reviewing a classic theme it tends to merit a lot of commentary. But I try to take a lot of pictures, too, because I know how much people like those. I have trouble finding a good space for photoshooting. My bed works for the most part, but I have no completely white walls to shoot against. I'm not sure what people do.

Well, it's important to remember that Spyrius isn't TRYING to be like Armored Core, it's trying to be generic science fiction. I was put off by the robots too, at first, but now that I have them I appreciate them more. I hated Exo-Force for the most part- skeletal designs are inexcusable when LEGO has so much more to work with. But I must admit, an Armored Core-ish theme would be amazing. I also loved UFO. The bigger sets, not so much, but the range of small vehicles really impressed me. The Warp Wing Figher is one of my favorite Space sets ever. Also, the minifigs are great too. Glad to hear that someone else enjoyed this theme.

I fail to see how EB is harmful to children at all...

Sounded backwards. The abundance of old Bionicle sets would tend to imply that they aren't selling well, not that they are.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this post.

Such as the sophisticated flick-fire missiles?
-
I'd like that. M-Tron might turn into another Power Miners, since the idea of a cargo transport business is something LEGO would probably market to younger kids, but Blacktron and Ice Planet have potential.
-
Pretty good review, but yes, this set is pretty unremarkable. :P
-
I'm a sucker for Space Police II and M-Tron like everyone else, and I'd probably agree with that assessment. But, this theme is often overlooked, and I do think it's one of the better ones. It's not for everybody. Thanks!

I didn't know you worked at Target, DV.

The book/film analogy isn't quite valid, since Eurobricks reviews lack any "story" whatsoever and expect you to make up your own mind without holding your hand through it. Which is how I like my reviews, at least with LEGO sets. Also, I'm afraid a lot of EB photography is at least as good as your BZP pics.
-
Thank you. :) I think this theme is excellent, definitely worthwhile to Space fans.

Theme Review: Orient Expedition
Algernon replied to Sandy's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This makes me miss Adventurers... I never collected them, but I rather wish I had. Great stuff. BTW, we're on the front page! -
Yeah, the base and Saucer Scout seemed a little lacking to me. Somehow, the robo-guardian makes a better base.
-
My Target had the most pathetic LEGO selection I've ever seen. The only 09 set they had was ONE Pirate set. Everything else was Bionicle vehicles that weren't on sale.

Do we have a map of Bara Magna yet?

Honestly BZP reviews annoy me, because the text-to-pic ratio is ridiculously high. Good EB reviews describe the functions and show you how the set works so you can make up your own mind- generally, BZP reviews seem to rant on and on about "the build" and other somewhat unimportant aspects of the set with less of a focus on pictorial overview.
