I give your review 10/10 for enthusiasm! That's a lot of effort you went to to get it all together. If Lego had more fans like you, there would be no sales problems. Actually, maybe there would be, because too many people would not buy the sets but build their own from instructions. Yikes! A hit team is on its way to your house. We KNOW where you live. Seriously, good work! Thanks for all the pics.

For the money, this is a fun set full of useful bits and bobs. The kids get 1-2 hours of fun out of it, and then it goes into hte parts bin with no guilt. Easily the best of the Spongebob sets for the money.

Have a look at bricklink - none to be found MISB. Pretty rare.... It's only 14 year old (1992) so probably will go cheaper than say.... 6080 MISB. $250. Let's have some speculation peeps!

Look at this beauty. http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-LEGO-4554-METR...bayphotohosting I'm not a train fan, but this is a set that woudl make you buy a train just so you can have a backdrop for this beautiful station. It's one of those sets that blurs the line between a toy and between art (not that you can't be both) Prediction... $250

Glendale, California LEGO Store Finds
gylman replied to dunamis's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
It seems that 8421 did not sell al that well. All over eBay it rarely sells for over $120 which is significatntly below original retail. Its a great, but very expensive, parts pack. Too bad - I hope Lego does not take it as a sign that large technic constructions are not commercially viable. Truth is that model was big, but did relatively little. We need smaller, but more complex, models. -
i do this as well, however, i think it's a very unfair and not even a correct way of organising an auction. It is, however, part of the fun of eBay. Agree with what's been said. Patience. Look for spelling errors and wrong or no set numbers, so searches don't bring bring them up. MY impression is also that sets sell for higher on weekend evenings and evenings in general. Of course, that's when the smart sellers list, but you can always find an exception here or there.

My name is Gylman, and I'nm a Legoholic My best bargoons have from S@H sales, but the selection is poor, especially this year. Places like Walmart Kmart, Winners (in CAnada) can ahve great sales on semi-decent product that is 1-2 years old, but again, this has seemed much less prominent this year. I used to prowl those stores routinely, but I've stopped doing that due to low yield. Gone are the days when I could pick up a Metroliner re-issue for $50, Adventurers/Technic sets at 60$% off, etc. I think there is much less on sale this year than last few , presumably because the product is selling better and they are not overproducing. Bricklink almost never costs less than buying direct from Lego on current items. eBay is the best bargain place, but after you're done with the shipping cost it often isn't nearly as good a bargoon as you thought. In general, the best eBay bargains are for bulk lots, but if you cost out the time you spend sorting and cleaning it probably ends up costing more than you would have saved if you bought mint sealed items from Lego directly. Once in a while you find an incredible eBay bargain, usually because the seller has mis-listed the item, or is in a country far away and people don't want to wait or mail money. However, these are getting fewer and fewer, and if you look at all the time you have to spend to look for those bargoons, it's quickly obbvious that it's not a cost savings. Unless, of course, you enjoy scrolling through page after page of eBay lego listings, which I do 8-

If You Were Johnny Thunder...

Boy that's a good one! I have lots of choices. Just one eh? Damn. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/gylman/5571/p6280192.jpg Sorry the picture is sideways. Too tired to fix it. In that case, I think the Schrade Navitool (Compass, mirror light, various sharp things, compartment for matches) would be best. That's the one in the front of the picture. However, one of the Victornoxes with a survival kit would be good too. Better quality than the Schrade.... but no compass or mirror. On the other hand, if I took my entire technic collection with me, I could probably build whatever I needed, no? -
6090 was not a great castle anyway, but the "OK" tail end of a waning classic-castle line which peaked with 6085, 6086 and arguably the forestmen. The Black Falcon and Guarded Inn castle re-releases were worthwhile from my point of view, but I vainly have hoped for something original and bigger. Naive me. This release I think make it as clear as anything ever has that we will never see another really good castle from TLC again. And if the Euro price is any indicator, there is practically no chance it will sell well enough to justify any further attempts. EDIT: price just came up. $150 Canadian for 871 parts. Not great, but not devastatingly bad. Probably it will be easily available on eBay for $100 US, which is reasonable.

In the description they say "this sets recreates the classic castle 6090..." BLECH Not.

http://shop.lego.com/ switch your country to Canada See the picture. Go OOOOH AHHHHHH Wait for it to go on sale.

Yikes. He's bigger than my kids! Maybe the best thing I've ever seen from you (and that's saying a lot). So solid and proportioned. I don't feel qualified to criticize it in any way but....... (I will offer a humble thought anyway). The head..Can the head be a bit bigger? The elbows: Are those cones at the elbow necessary?- they just jut out and disrupt his shapely body (I say that in the most heterosexual manner, of course). I don't think the discs at the elbow seeme quite right. Love the hands! How posable is he? The elbow seems to move well, but can he bend his knees without collapsing under the weight? But seriously, what a masterpiece.

yes its good of you to mention this, i find im often strained for pieces aswell. My solution may be a bit crazy but it was basically to buy 2006 new elements for $381 US $441 Can in hopes that it would suffice my lego needs for at least 3 years. Now the question i have to ask myself is why even buy sets? Isn't buying in bulk generally better as long as your seller has a good feedback profile and you are satisfied with the store policy? I predict that in 3 months you will be looking hungrily at another Bricklink purchase. You can never have enough parts. Once a MOC is started, you have several stages where you realize you don't have JUST the right part, or the right quantity of a part. If you bought enough elements for the next 3 years then I'll eat my bionicle parts bin! What you've really done is enter a slippery (but very fun) slope which rapidly ends up in a regular cycle of purchasing. Enjoy, and don't sweat the money - what's life for? :-)
-
I know we've had this debate before, but I still think that the truck looks weird - not proportional. However, it looks like this will be one of the very few 2006 items I will buy as soon as it's available. I have a lot of pent-up demand to release

nononono! are you insane?! you don't open the box! you just gently take it in your hands, threaten everybody who comes near it, stare at it for a while, listen to the parts falling from side of the box to the other and put it back into the vault... untill tomorrow... then you open the vault again... you just gently take it in your hands... oh well... you get the story by now, don't ya? :-$ Clearly Sneffie understands. If I could get this, it would sit in my home office, in all its MISB beauty, with that big beautiful picture shining like a beacon of glory. Every month or two I would dust it off, make sure it was not being shined upon by any direct sunlight, and maybe changed its position again. And yes, about 1-2 years from now it woudl go into the vault for a while. But I would know it was there! ANYONE GOTTA PROBLEM WID DAT! *sing* HUH?

Final value $320 (predicted 310).

How did this promo expert come to be a promo expert? He has an awesome collection of his own, and has been collecting them for many years. No official "promo expert" certification, I'm afraid, but he's never let me wrong, and seem to know a lot of people who collect rare Lego thingamabobs and whoozits.
-
Word from my Promo expert is that this is almost certainly not real.
-
Agree that this looks like a phoney. I will put in a call to my "expert". Will update.

My opposition would be to an elitist system where a few are "honoured" based on the quality of their MOCs, and chosen by some admin or committee. We all know who the leet moc'ers in this site, we don't need titles to tell us that. HOwever, using the titles to show that you are a good MOC'er would lead to excessive competitition. While I am all for competition (I have been pondering sponsoring an xPOD contest later this year when I have some time), it should not be wound up into people's identity on the forum. That's too competitive. I have no opposition to a system where anyone can state their favourite theme and forum where they are likely to be found. Like wearing a T-shirt saying which rock band you favour. Heck, I suspect my most active forum would be "buy and sell", which in truth is not a totally inaccurate reflection of what I do with Lego. Here is how I think we should do it: People should be allowed to pick a theme or two that they want to be "known" as favouring. Subtheme can be alllowed to be mentioned, but not necessary like theatre:Starwars. or History:Classic Castle Your themes cannot be changed every 2 weeks just because you got a new set you like. It has to stay for at least a few months I would say. Otherwise people would drive the admins insane, and in any case, for true fans, theme loves don't change. If people want, they should be encouraged to submit MOCs within their theme. Whether we want to keep track of how many mocs peoplemake, and how good they are.... I am dubious. If you all want to go ahead with htis, I suggest we get together, maybe in the forusm, maybe on Chat, and brainstorm the list of themes/subthemes that are usable. We can then post this list somehwere, and people can pick. We can't let people just make their own names. They should be picked from a list. But, we need to provide a complete list. Oh, and Brickminer, I have no problem with you comment - I agree with what you say. Jipay's comment is the key. It is entirely correct.

I think this is foolish, unnecessary, and potentially destructive. I will go on record as saying that if nominated for a tag (which is unlikely these days, since i barely have time to wipe my butt, let alone build anything looking at) I will respectfully decline. Cheers Gyl (Mr. Keychain) Man

I was not going to buy this, as it is totally overpriced in Canada, along with all of the 2006 releases, but any time I hear "tons of gears and shafts running everywhere", somethings in my frontal lobe snaps and my primitive Lego buying instincts take over. One copy of this set has been sold to me today, PURELY because of your review Gandalf. TLC owes you a commision. Cheers (I think) Gyl
