1. so do you think this could be a good idea, gylman ???however, if it every were to happen, you couldn't get a "castle" only tag... as the forum that castle is included in is the "History and Adventure" Forum... so, if the tags were according to your forum "affiliation" (based on your favorite theme), then your tag would include Castle, Knights Kingdom, Adventurers, Wild West, and Vikings. would that still be cool ??? Yep, it would still be cool. But, the truth is most people wouldn't have a clue what "Lego History and Adventure" means. Actually, I changed my mind. Put me down for.... KEYCHAIN! :-D http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/gylman/k...uland_house.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/gylman/k...ss_on_table.jpg What? no Keychain forum? What kind of a place is this? I'm going to Legofan. Wait.... they've been down for 3 months now.....OK, Lugnet! Wait no, they're all psycho..... OK. Fine. I'll stay. :-)
2. Hey, if we're doing theme affiliations, put me down for castle! (or Technic)
3. The Orient Adventure games and cmics are still available. They are among the best that TLC has ever done. http://www.lego.com/eng/orient/story.asp THESE are what hooked my kids on Lego, and on Adventurers in particular. So sad to think that we might not have any more of these.
4. I find the thought of Lego being sold to a "maximum sharehold value" kind of corporate mentality to be highly disturbing, but I wonder how much of this is a psychological gut response, but not really rational. Most often, the people buying the company would seek to position it as a premium product, not as a commodity. That's is, after all, the best way to a profit, not fighting with the other bottom dwellers for every last crumb. Buying TLC only to to turn it into Megabloks on steroids would be retarded. The only risk is that someone does this in order to squeeze some short term cash and does not care about the medium or long term. Someone who has never actualyl played with Lego.
5. I have seen many a forum become entangled in stupid fights about post counts, rank, seniority, etc etc. I'm just afraid this will detract from the casual friendly atmosphere here.
6. All this ranking stuff seems childish to me. We are here to enjoy hobby. I think Jipay's idea is good.
7. hm... some one who's willing to spend 231 dollars has got to be a guy with infinite bucks as well! :-P I did see a boxed one on ebay just the other day for a lot less... but you're after MISB? outch! you're just asking for it! :-P Heh, heh :-$ [practices explanation to wife, who comes across the PayPal bill when perusing his Mastercard account] <excuse 1> Well, I've been working ALOT in the last few months. Getting pretty worn down, but my bank account is doing all right. Don't I deserve a reward? WIFE's REPLY: "Don't I deserve a reward for putting up with you? Don't the kids deserve to eat?" <excuse 2> I've bought almost no 2006 Lego this year. I would rather get this set than a Batcave and an ISD any time. WIFE's REPLY: "WTF is an ISD?. ANyway, the 2006 Armani lineup is quite good!" <excuse 3> It was late at night when I bid. I was tired. Not thinking clearly. I thought I was bidding $23.10 :-D WIFE's REPLY: "It's called 'bid retraction' darling. Look it up on eBay help. Then get some professsional help. Oh, and I just saw a really nice Armani purse on eBay...." MY RIPOSTE: "Hey, there's sleep disorder like that, when people do stuff they are not aware of. A man killed his wife a few years ago, and was acquitted on the basis that it was a sleep disorder, like sleep walking. Surely buying a classic MISB Lego set is not as bad as killing your wife?" I can't think of a castle set that is harder to find MISB than this one - maybe 6085/6080 if you look at bricklink, but I have seen both MISB on eBay a few times in the last year . Never seen 6086 before. And the box for 6086 is much nicer than for 6080 and 6085. This is the kind of Lego set that is bought for for MISB display only..... NOT as a parts back 8-
8. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=6067207959 Some people say this is the best Lego castle ever made, although I personally don't agree (raised baseplate is the problem). I'm out on this one. Tried, but I think there is some guy with infinite bucks there who just in some insane bid. I predict $310 final value. Sigh. Gyl
9. The Makuta set is pretty cheap used on eBay and has lots of useful parts, especially the hinges for the legs. http://guide.lugnet.com/set/8593 What you will find is that to build something serious you need lots of copies of the same part - repetition and colour scheme are what make a construction look good. Random mixed up parts from 8 different sets end up looking like poo. You can buy tons of bulk part lots on eBay, although often they are 75% useless garbage parts, and only 25% parts you can use. I have pretty much every set, and lots of spare parts. I can sell you some parts if you want.... tell me what you want.I can also sell you Makuta, or any set you want pretty much. PM me if interested. Cheers. Gyl
10. But will the quality of the brick remain the same? That is the key concern. I presume TLC Is aware of this nd would not compromise with at least this aspect of their production, otherwise long term this will be the end of TLC. When we can no longer tell the difference between a Lego brick and MB or <shudders> Bestlock brick, then it's the end. Hopefully that day will never come. Other than that, TLC should do whatever it takes to survive in this world.
11. I am not saying it is operative in this particular auction, which coudl easily be a shop owner, or thieving employee thereof, but I think think the following sequence happens to a lot of people, with variations. They start out small, rediscovering a childhood love, from the point of view of an adult with spare money. They get increasingly obsessed. They buy, initially build, then just collect. Over several years they really go crazy, buy more than they need, can't stop buying (especially when they see something they KNOW is a bargain") They build up a massive space consuming collection. Increasingly they fall behind building/cataloging/sorting the Lego (whatever they do with it) The boxes pile up Guilt over wasted money piles up. At some point they look around and realize that their "hobby" is not sensible, they can't build or use all they bought, there is no more room to put it. Look at that room! Where does that person sleep? What could they do with all that Lego If they are calm, they gradually sell it off, keep a cherished fraction. Some, however, over-react and sell the whole thing off at once. Also, I think many of us go through phases when Lego is not as attractive as it seemed a few months before, usually when there are other stresses. This waxes and wanes. However, again some people over-react during the low periods, and oversell their collection. Just my attempt at pop psychology.
12. Frankly, I find more than half the fun to be in searching for bargains, buying, waiting for the box to arrive, building (some of them), etc. Buying it all at once eliminates most of the fun.
13. I vaguely recall Imperial Trading Posta as one of the more expensvie eBay sellers. They have lots of good stuff, but very overpriced.
14. As a technic fan, I am not very enthusiastic about this set. It is not particularly mechanically interesting, I don't find it very attractive, and it takes up too much space. I fear it will be flimsy, but can't judge that yet. I have always loved best those Technic sets which packed a lot of functions into a small tight package. This set is the opposite of that. I can't tell if it's motorized. I think not. That's too bad, having a motor and a remote control operation on this set might have saved it. We can always add that on.... It looks like a good parts pack, depending on cost of course. It will drive the price of 1x4 chain links down, which is nice. Oh, and one more negative thing. No classic technic beams as far as I can see. At least the giant crane truck from last year had a ton of 1x16 classic beams. $0.02
15. The keychains do not fall apart. What happens to them is that the faces and other print get worn off over time by rubbing keys etc, in your pocket.
16. Well, not really all glued together, otherwise they would be stiff, no? In fact, all parts are mobile. Head rotates, arms and legs move. I forget if hair/hats move on the head. I believe the only glue used is trunk to legs. The metal pin in the middle of the head which the keychain attaches to probably keeps the head on the body so it can't easily come off.
17. When we first saw picks of this set a few months ago, it was clear that it was going to be the best parts pack in a long time - indeed this is so, and a very reasonable US$ price for what you are getting. I'll definitely be getting a couple of these.
18. Magnet is inside (you can see it through the leg studholes), and works through plastic. THey are regular minifigs otherwise, but I think some parts are glued (will check tomorrow - I have magnets all over my office, but none at home). EDIT: arms, hands, headgear, head come off easily. Body does not sepaerate from legs so that's the only place they used glue.
19. A great EB debut indeed! And another Adventurer lover to boot! Aces all around *y* Love the detailing on the ship, from the pressure gauge on the balloon tanks to the sextant at the captain's wheel. Gyl
20. As lego MOCs go, these are very nice. I am not sure, however, your future bride will be flattered by the thought. You look quite good, but she looks.....errrr.. how do I say this..... ermm....... rather manly. 8-|
21. Parts in stock, cost per part, price point are more practical compared to a real classic like 6080 and 6085. Too bad though.
22. If real, this could be TLCs effort to pacify AFOLs who have been clamouring for a return to CC. They could be testing the waters for this type of product. A cross between 6090 and 6098 is EXACTLY right - that's what it is. It's an OK set, and I am pleased to not see any one-piece-wall-and-window-of-doom element. I may buy it just to do my bit to make it successful so they make more of them The little forge is a beautiful touch. And is it possible that TLC is actually able to make a castle without a useless catapult? There may be hope for the future.
23. Absolutely excellent. I usually get wind of the keychain releases in advance - these were a total surprise to me. Best treat I've had in ages. The magnets are great too. :-) :-P
24. http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=KC757 OK, well, maybe not huge, except for keychain collecting freaks like me. But, a pleassant surprise. Can the Joker, Two Face, Catwoman, Riddler and others be far behind?? EDIT: OMG, the joker too! but only in Europe. http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=4493759&cn=155&d=21&t=7 and catwoman! http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=4493766&cn=155&d=21&t=7 YES! I have something to live for!! (if any European EBers are willing to buy these for me at S@H and ship to me... I would be most grateful). Will trade or pay through paypal.
25. Well, let's look at this tower. I cut and pasted the tower and put some lines pointing to the elements I don't like. Fat brick as base one piece wall and window of doom next then a one piece turret top (then some actual lego pieces) then another one piece turret top then a one piece roof Not <insert that tiresome argument>? In this tower alone 5 huge pieces make up up most of the structure. There's no building here at all. It's not really all that different from this http://guide.lugnet.com/set/4779
