    HELP ME!!!

perhaps I should say nothing, since I have been totally disappointed with the Batman sets this year, but choosing the least bad (in my own opinion and no one else's) to me is the Batcave. Arkham looks like Harry Potter to me, and Exo Force is a whole thing I have had no use for from the beginnning. Heck Bionicle is far more interesting than Exo Force if you want humanoid stuff. So, Buy the batcave, and them pick up some of those other nice villain figs from Bricklink or ebay or from a magnet set. Please don't flame me you Batman and Exo-Force lovers. PEACE UPON LEGO LEGO and GOOD MOCing TO ALL MEN AND WOMEN.
  3. I haven't had a chance unti today to look at these with the attention they deserve. Truly, this is a great piece of work. We all talk about how we would like to see another Adventurers theme, but you have actually gone out and done it. I've never seen anything like this before. It feels very authentic. I think your #2 larger castle set is as good or better than anything TLC has done with something that size. It looks good from far, from near, and the parts selection is great. I never much like all the cars and assorted vehicles that TLC puts into all its sets, and I would have used the extra parts to embellish on the Castle, but that's just me. Clearly what you have created is authentic to how they do it. Sam's tank is hilarious, if not particularly realistic looking. Kids would like that a lot I bet. You need a strong female sidekick (or villain) though - I always like that best about the adventurers - having Pippin Read or Jing Lee to a lesser extent. I never feel qualified to critique something that I know I could not do myself - I can just sit back and admire. And hope that TLC gets the message. The Adventurers MUST NOT DIE!
  4. LOL, I have all of them! But they are planned for a space themed display. First a castle-ish theme, which will hold my castle keychains, new and old, as well as pirates, as well as the Adventurers. Then, the space display. At my current pace, I imagine space won't make it to bat until 2007.
  5. The sculpture is just the Lego kit made from spare parts. Had to make minor mods to accomodate the "piercings". The gray MF is actually sterling silver, made for and licensed by Lego. Dunno how many they made, but I have seen one other person who had a silver brick, and a silver skeleton, and that's it. I would love to know how many they made..... it may be very rare. The shiny silver one in the middle is actually just regular metal. It is quite a bit less rare, and was given to employees, salespeople, etc a few years ago ("toy of the century"). The two on either side, the fig and the brick, are real silver. OOOOOOOHHHHH. I think that much silver must be worth... oh.. say.... about... .,.. ... 2 dollars! Woot! Hey Mattz, glad to see you are back. You have been absent for a LOOONG time. Hope all's well.
  6. There is something profound about this, but I just can't put my finger on it. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/gylman/k...an/wholeman.jpg Whole gallery, when moderated http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=196698 Now, onward to my castle/adventurers keychain display!
  7. Welcome. You will find canucks are more than well represented here .I believe there are more Toronto members here than any one single city in the world. Cheers. G
  8. why do you americans always think you've got the biggest? :-P if you check the annual reports, you'll see europe takes 58%, US+Canada 29%; Belgium, for instance, buys 2 million lego sets every year, not bad for a population of only 10 million people... in fact, that's one of the reasons that I, as a european, think Lego is leaning too much toward the US market/US culture... I think the reason is that the European market is saturated. Lego owns Europe. In the US there is far more competition. There is more room for growth in the American market. Also, I am not sure what the demographics are for children in Europe vs North Am, but my impression is that there are some issues with childbirth rate in Europe, if Lego thinks that far ahead that is...
  9. I need to reread this threat while on some mind altering substance. - I'm sure it will be even more entertaining. Honestly, I have never had a part missing. Every time I thought something was missing, it ended up being under the rug, or stuck to my foot, or whatever. I have never had a warped part. Is this a North America vs Europe thing? Are our boxes packed or quality controlled differently than in Europe? My biggest issue with S@H has been the rare dented Lego box in an overly soft shipping carton. Since it was going for parts, I didn't try to get a new one.
  10. LOL, I AM the boss. I have a work office and home office. My work office is not insane with Lego. Usually a few sets, which I turn over every year or two. Lego minifigs stuck to my PC, a couple of cars and the Knight bus promo sitting on my desk. I had a bunch of Bohrok perched in odd positions all over the place, but I kept knocking them over, so eventually I brought them home. Visitors are usually amused and play with my Dragon Fortress or Pneumatic. What they say behind my back I have no idea. I am known for being slighty offbeat though - I doubt the Lego makes my reputation any worse than it is. At home, my office is insane. Covered with Lego. I can't find anything on my bookshelves because Lego boxes are everywhere. Oh, and WHAT KIDS TOY were you talking about? :-D G
  11. I wasn't, it was an oversized minifig model. Uh... err... *cough*... errrm... hehe... you know... I... uh... *ahem*... I'd... well... I've always liked Canada, you know... LOL :-D Well, tell ya what, I'll sell it to you for what I paid for it from Bricklink, and it will be a lot cleaner when you get it than when I got it. My 2 hours of cleaning thrown in for free! Instructions intact, but hole punched and an "x" on each page (the previous user put an X on each page to show he had completed it), no box. I will also gladly make it part or all of a trade it for any of a variety of MISB classic sets, including 6080 (King's Castle - i'd do that as a 1:1 trade), 8862, some of the Forestmen sets, some of the Paradisa sets, etc etc. But only for MISBies, though. I have all these sets in opened condition, but the best of the best I want to have MISB to display around my office, like trophies. G
  12. I thought the ferrari car were preety cool. My favorite though (and one of my all time favorites) is the Ferrari Sceudara transport truck. (sorry, i know i spelt that wrong) One of the best look sets lego ever made. Was that a sculpture?? Didn't know that. Sculpture or not, I agree it was totally excellent. This and the Building Bonanza were the best sets of 2005 IMHO I built the dragon from spare parts this year, and found it quite excellent too. Yoda and Darth Maul never appealed, and I never tried them. I have the Statue of Liberty, and it is so so. I'll probably sell it fairly soon.
  13. Well, you'll make a 9V man out of me yet.....
  14. Continuing along a previous (TRAIN RELATED :-/ ) line of discussion.... it seems to me that it would be easier to motorize this train with 9V than with RC, as the RC engines are significantly bigger. Is that correct??
  15. Thanks Hobbes. I'll check it out. Seriously, although it may suck for the hard-core train fans, the Xmas train might actually be a real show stopper at our house. We have never done train before mostly because it seemed like a bottomless pit of money I would fall into, but maybe this year we'll do the train together with the advent calendar. Xmas is the best Lego tim at our house, not only because I get to buy some for everyone, but becuase I actually have the time to play with it with my kids.
  16. Depends on what you want to do: 1. With one of those new packs of tracks (8 curves/8 straights) you have a decent oval to push it around. That'd be the cheapest way. 2. I read somewhere that RC equipment will be available seperately but I don't know which (motor, receiver, control...). Depending on which it will be you could make it RC. That's the not-so-sure-if-possible-at all-and-if-how-expensive way. 3. The most expensive way would be to buy 9V track, a 9V motor and a speed regulator. It's the most fun way, though. 9V accessories are still available now, but who knows what fall/winter will look like... Well, if someone has never been into trains before, it woudl be kinda self defeating to start with 9V trains now that they are being phased out. Maybe a used RC on eBay.... they haven't been around long enough to get into significant eBay resale cycle, but maybe by Xmas... Is the old 9V track compatible with RC? (i.e., just use it as track, not a power source). Any reason not to buy a buncgh of that used from eBay?
  17. A train with no train track? No motor? OK, so if TLC wants to sell this, who will they sell it to? People who already are train fans? Doubt that, since they seem to all hate this. People who are not train fans but TLC wants to start to buy trains? Well, if they have to shell out double the money for motor and track, they won't buy it. Or, they won't know that they have to, and then will be mighty pissed on Xmas day. So, I repeat my questions to you train cogniscenti - what's the cheapest way to get this Xmas train to be useful on Xmas day - with a track and motor? Please advise.
  18. Agree - big mistake if no motor! What's the cheapest way to get one of the new motor (RC) systems?
  19. Legofan.org is as close to TLC as you can get without being employed by TLC. They are pretty much a mouthpiece for TLC. If it's there, indicated as a set for retail sale, chances are it's for real (unless someone hacked into Legofan - which given their computer problems in the last few months is of course sadly possible :-(
  20. I think that if you press it too soon after the last time, the software sees it as a "flood" request (meaning too much information is requested by one user too soon) and blocks it. Many forums have this setting at 30 secs, etc. I get this when I double click the new posts by mistake. Or when I forgot I clicked, and clicked it again right away.
  21. As a non-train fan (I have a Metroliner Legends release that is likely to sit unused in my storage area forever), I can say that this set is more than likely to end up as our Xmas display set, and likely will make me buy the train station too (10027 I think),which until now I had no reason to buy. It all depends on who you are marketing to. If you are marketing to a NON-train fan, or children and their parents, at Xmas-time their perspective will be different. I am more likely to buy this set than the 787. Now, once again, we await the price point wiht trepidation...... DON'T BLOW IT TLC
  22. Jeez you guys have a lot of pent up anger to release. the button nose is horrible of course. Breath deeply...
  23. Also, sculptures tend to be fun to build, but then just kinda sit there and eventually turn into parts packs (unless you can resell them on eBay). So, depending on one's intentions.... this could be either a great white parts pack, or a fun build then resale, or a huge waste of money.
  24. It's a sculpture. NOT for swishing. They tend to look blocky up close, but much better at a distance, displayed on a shelf , etc. I'm mixed on this one. We shall see what the price is... that will determine likelihood of purchase.
  25. ROFL X-D That is hilarious Gyl !! What troubles me is a MB part in a valuable Lego creation !! Once again another less crappy Exo hairstyle skittle dude can behead that MB part !! Imagine on !! *yoda* Finally! a use for those annoying technic projectile launchers and dozens of kinds of useless catapults we get with all our sets (although I like the one with the Army of Vikings and Heavy ARtillery Wagon)! The Gundam's head will fall off even if the missile misses by a foot!
