  1. I was thinking the same at first but then realised that the head part seems to be molded !! So we are pretty screwed for that alternative ;-) *yoda* Well, I guess we could use Lego for all but the head, and then use the head from Megabloks. But then, is there any such place like Bricklink where you can buy single parts for Megablocks. Maybe there is a site called "shitlink", or "craplink", or "fallapartinyourhandlink" or something..... :-) I wouldn't want to buy the whole set, although given how cheap (both meanings) all MB items are, it may not be impossible. So many issues to ponder..... I need a drink.
  2. Umm... helicopter? :-D Thanks, that wasn't there yesterday :'-) Maybe he was monitoring the discussion on EB.
  3. I remember a long time ago suggesting a Mobile Suit Gundam license for TLC. Sigh. This is so much nicer than ExoFarce. However, I think there are cost issues with licenses - I wonder how much money Megablocks can make with this given their low cost items and need to pay licenses. Maybe TLC figured it just wasn't worth the trouble. Can't help but think, though, what could have been...
  4. I remember I posted up his gallery about 6 months ago for people to see. http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=3779 The fire truck is new, as are a few others. I tried to replicate some of his vehicles, and although I could get mine to look almost like his, they were always very flimsy. I wonder how solid his vehicles are. But they sure are beautiful. THIS is someone that TLC should use as a master builder, and license his vehicles. I am always more impressed by small MOCs that show amazing details than by big huge MOCs that are a testimonial more to the builder's stamina than their ingenuity. This guy may be in the top 3 of all the MOCs I've ever seen (assuming his MOCs are less flimsy than my attempts at copying his vehicles have been).
  5. Wasn't King Leo's Castle part of the first Knights Kingdom theme released in 2000, so therefore its not Classic Castle. That might explain why you don't want to own it. Quite so. I used the wrong term. Substittue "large Lego castle from the 20th century" for "classic" in that senten ce of mine.
  6. Exactly! It's not a bad set, but it's not a Legend in my opinion, and I think other classic castle fans would agree. Who decides what sets become Legends? There was definately no vote for this set. To tell you the truth, I think Lego discovered surplus supply of this set in one of it's warehouses (because it never sold way back when), and made some modifications, added a few new pieces, and slapped the name LEGEND on it. That would be a sad and cynical thing. I doubt it. I think that the dumbing down of the castle sets relates to Legos attempt to cope with the diminishing attention span and "free play time" available to the kids of today vs the kids of 20 years ago. Classic castle was much more about building. KK3 is more about roleplaying. I think that TLC believes that if they made the castle take too long to build, the kids would just give up and go play a game on their PC, or watch TV or play with their transformers toys that come prebuilt. Frankly, and sadly, they may be right.
  7. BSB (which cost wise runs about the same as SES on average) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 140$ for set + box.... GOOD deal. Box looked nice too!
  8. Agree that they hardly picked a "legend" with this pseudo 6090. 6080, 6085, 6086 - those are legends. Even a smaller re-release like 6066 or 6077 from the Forestmen would be a treat. It seems to me that a castle made of basic bricks would be cheaper to make than one with specialized pieces, but then we are talking many more bricks numerically. Also the old sets seemed significantly more generous with figs, and those cost money. Oh well, time and time again I have to remind myself that they are not selling to me, but to a 6-12 year old audience.
  9. That's a tough question. I may edit in more answers. 1) the old castles looked like castles (6080, 6085, 6086). I'm not sure what the Castle of Morcia, or Vladek's, or the Tower of Ages or whatever look like, but not castles. 2) The old castles were constructed nearly brick by brick except for those wall-window sections which I must confess I never liked. Due to the large number of large pieces in recent castles, I would describe the process with modern castles as often more of "assembly", rather than "building". 3) The colours were far more sensible with classic castle 4) The building was downright clever for some of the older castles (6074 for example) http://www.peeron.com/scans/6074-1/5/
  10. One concern that may not be a real problem.... it may be rather visually disorienting to have your skin switch every time you switch subforums. I don't recall ever being on a forum that switched skins from topic to topic. Just a thought. Not sure if it's a real problem.
  11. I liked the adventurers skin too. Best we've had so far in my opinion. Where did it go? Now I'm back to Batman, which is too hard on my eyes. Switching to default....
  12. If you got a good condition box for the SES, then you did well. Othewise, so so. Besides, what did shipping cost. That's part of the price. Welcome to Eurobricks Mr. Smee. No doubt Mr. Phes will soon be taking you under his wing.
  13. Clearly Starwars4J you are right. That is the potential of LDD. It is hopeless to think that AFOLs would design official Lego sets, because: a) these things are not done well by committee. Yet, who would you select. Have a competition? b) talent is not enough. THe part selection and markets have to be economically viable. AFOL MOCers will not do this well enough c) It's not like the guys at Lego are idiots. The reason we and AFOLs are usually not happy with their sets is that for the most part the people here are the elite of Lego fans, and we are NOT the target market. Look at the Lego Factory sets. I believe they did not sell well at all, mostly I believe due to pricing issues, and also because that is not the kind of set a 6-12 year salivates at the sight of. But, for true believers, use LDD. Perhaps the right thing to do is to create product lines (pirate, space, train) using LDD, and post the instructions in a common site, or have Lego host it, and then people can peruse them. But only the best of the best should be posted, not bazillions of parts packs or simple little sets like we have now. I don't believe that AFOLs and MOCers would care much about money. The glory of having your set sell well for Lego would be more than enough. Look at the Blacksmith Shop by Dan Siskind. Bragging rights for a generation.
  14. I don't understand - what is this item?
  15. Thanks. You're right about the crazy colour scheme. It was mostly intentional. Maybe "riot of colours" might be a good name for this display. I've been at the keychain thing for about 2 years. Getting those last few oldies, however, is going to be very hard. maybe impossible.
  16. Yeah, a really good condition box MISB set which is one of "important" sets (4554 certainly was) is really getting up there these days. This particular seller has a lot of very cool things MISB available, apparently old stock that has been in storage. I would probably pay this kind of money for a 6080 castle MISB excellent condition box, but realistically that would cost even more! The only one of which I know for sale is on Bricklink for 1500, and while that price may be partially negotiable, I doubt it would go below 1000$. Cheers
  17. I think what happened there was that Mariac put in a bid of 250, when the bidding was at 210. Then if someone else bids at say, 220, since Mariac put in 250 before hand, it justs bumps up the price to 220, with Mariac still on top. At least I think that's what happens... Maniac kept trying again and again, raising the bid by 10 dollars each time, until at 305 he had enough to take the high bid over from Chuikinwah, who had put in his maximum of 300 earlier. Then Chuikinwah put in 451.50 to crush Maniac. This stood until a few hours before the end, when Ostpass took over. Then, Johnl sniped the auction at the very end, with 457.77, but then put in an insurance bid of at least 461.50 (it could have been more, but eBay just needed 5 dollars more than ostpass's maximum bid of 456.50 Madness, but entertaining.
  18. Well, there you go. It blew us all away. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 $461.50!!
  19. Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments. The system guys on top are mostly my oldest and most valuable keychains. There are about 6 more fabuland keychains of which I know that I don't have, and if and when get them they will gradually replace the system guys on top of the carousel. I am approaching 200 keychains. Not quite complete, but getting close. Only the real oldies elude me. I am planning similar thematic displays for 1) castle/adventurers/pirate (about 30) 2) space incl. Starwars (about 30-40) 3) probably one for spiderman/batman, smaller scale, since the total # of keychains is about 12. I still have that massive white rotating one which I will use for the rest, which are basically town and sports figs. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=137846 As for "keychain silliness"... it's just my way of trying to not take all this collecting business too seriously. But it is buckets of fun making these little displays. I seem to never have the time to sit down and make something more substantial these days, so this keeps me in the groove.
  20. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=193849 Latest keychain display system for my fabuland keychains. Turning the little crank handle in the window on the bottom rotates the top floor around so all can be seen. The merry go round also turns to display a bunch of other old keychains.
  21. I think. My brother and I got about 5 or 6 sets at the same time when my parents came back from a trip to Germany. This one seems most familiar. Altenatively it was this one, which is still at my parents' how 35 years and two countries later. My kids have played with it. Either way, my Lego love affair began in 1971. Probly before most of the people on EB were born.
  22. I personally have no use for the Batman line, except for their nice keychains. Haven't bought one set, don't plan to. Too many specialized pieces, stickers, giant roofs and walls, etc etc. THis being said, if TLC makes money from it, let them make as much as they want. It's obvious that a kid in a store, faced with a generic castle vs that superficially slick batcave, would plead with his mom to get the batcave. It's only 2 weeks later, when the batman set sits unused that the mother wonders whether the castle set woudl have been a better investment. With regards to future Batman sets, isn't a bank, a GOOD bank, with a vault, and tellers, etc, an obvious future Batman set? That would be good for everyone, not just Batman fans. They could intergrate Wayne Manor somehow with the existing batcave set. That would also be something that does not necessarily only add to Batman. What I would definitely NOT want to see is an endless lineup of cheap 100 part "vehicle" sets.
  23. Safe trip, and enjoy your new habitat. I would probably pick Australia as the place I would most like to live in the whole world. Kinda of life Canada, but less anal I hear. Cheers.
  24. There are some questions that should not be asked, and some answers that need not be known.
