  1. "Hm, well as long as we are protected, we can try to finish him off now. Do not hold back, eheh..." Hybros attacks the Shade from the front row with the Twin Kunai, twice.
  2. Hybros waits expectantly for Pretzel to heal Soryx to full health before the Hunter continued his attacks. He checks on the Baron and Moke to make sure they're okay.
  3. A shiver shoots down Hybros' spine. The Shade was really beginning to get to him. "Hm.... elvish? This does not appear to be any sort of elf I have ever encountered, eheh... but then, neither were those gnomes. Perhaps this... elf, if that is what it is, was inflicted with the same plague that the gnomes of Zylstra have been..." He turned his gaze to the fallen Moke and Baron, and grimaced. "Let us hope we can get to the bottom of this before it spreads..."
  4. OOC: I'd rather not risk him rolling Special Damage. He can constantly heal Soryx instead with the chance of the Angel remaining.
  5. Soryx equips the helmet, and prepares to attack the Shade from the front row the following round. Hybros does nothing, but notes the Shade's odd behavior and speech. He shakes his head. "Where could this thing have come from? Em, maybe you can talk to it... I hear that Rangers are well-versed in all types of languages, eheh..." OOC: Maybe some autorolling could be in order, with Soryx attacking after next round and not stopping until he is injured. When/if he is injured, Pretzel should heal him until successful. Pretzel should always be first in the BO.

  7. So then the way this works is how CallMePie and others have thought it worked? *Immune to Fire* means the enemy is not affected by weapons with rubies in them, no matter what other gems or multipliers may be present, correct?
  8. "As long as we are taking our time, Em should hand his helmet to Soryx so that he is better protected. The Monk should go first, protecting us from the attack this round, and healing Soryx on consequent rounds as he attacks the Shade. Perhaps it would be suitable to heal yourself this round, Monk."
  9. Hybros smiles as the Baron is safely put down without being seriously injured. "Well done, Soryx. I think I can trust you now. This Shade is all yours, heheh..." "Am I the only one who brought Phoenix Essences? You do have gold, do you not Jeaux? It appears you made a miscalculation before signing up for this quest, eheh..." Hybros revives Em and then does nothing. "Soryx will be needing that helmet of yours."
  10. Exactly. Pie made the Baron in 98 immune to fire just so I couldn't attack him with my most powerful weapon.
  11. I agree with CallMePie and Zepher. Immune means immune, and should mean "not affected by the element," not "0x damage, with the possibility of that being nullified by a weakness to a weapon's element". If this isn't the ruling, then fine, but if this is nothing new it should have been clarified long ago. Many QMs have run their battles in the way described above, and it'd be nice to have some consistency.

  13. OOC: Hybros should be up 25 health. "Soryx, attack the Baron with just one of your axes, striking him twice may be too much at this point, hehe... Allow me to distract him first." Hybros attacks the Baron from the front row with Justice, repeating with his second turn if his first attack misses. If it succeeds, he attacks Gnome C from the front with his Sword.
  14. Hey UQers, I will update the thread tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, busy weekend.
  15. I almost wish each player would keep some sort of index of their characters' most important moments (they don't always happen in quests). I started to keep a biography of Hybros on my profile page, but it's been a very long time since I updated it. Right now I don't follow any particular character's story closely (some more than others), but that means that for some, knowledge of another character's story is limited to their own character's interactions with them. You just get bits-and-pieces of someone else's story, more similar to real life than a story in which you follow many characters' paths. I'm not sure if that's for better or for worse, but there are definitely a lot of blank spots on the map for me as far as other people's characters go.
  16. Exactly. Any battle that becomes unbalanced by buffs is usually going to last less than ten rounds anyway.
  17. Exactly. There'd be no point in buffing in the first place if the QM is going to rebalance anyway. That's just not fair. Taking consumables in-battle eliminates the chance of the QM changing anything about the enemies to balance a buff (or rather, they shouldn't, but you know, surprise boss revival and all that). The bottom line is, battles should be properly balance before taking any buffs into account. That means that they should be easy enough to win without any buffs at all (if with some difficulty), and challenging enough where the enemies aren't steamrolled if heroes are buffed. It's a fine line, and easier said than done, but it has been done before by QMs. Again, I think limiting consumable use to in-battle only would remedy this problem by quite a bit. I don't have Hybros use consumables as often anymore.
  18. Hybros tries to focus on the battle and drown out the chatter between Jeaux and Pretzel. He downs a Grand Potion and attacks Gnome C from the front row with his Sword.
  19. I think you're oversimplifying things. Take a look at the battle in 98, none of us buffed beforehand, but it took some strategizing to work out a way where we could beat the relatively tough enemies using consumables.
  20. Can we get a confirmation on this? I think it's been done both ways where multiple items can be received by the same character in one turn, or a turn has to be spent for each item. For example, I seem to remember being able to hand off three potions in one turn to the same person. What's the rule on this?
  21. Exactly. Just balance the battles where no heroes buff beforehand (because it wouldn't be allowed). Any and all buffing would take place during the battle, at the expense of turns, thus the buffing would be that much more advantageous. It's a more cost-effective way that doesn't just let heroes be super-powerful before every battle.
  22. Go ahead. Seriously, I think everything would be so much easier to balance if we only allowed consumable use in battles. You could even extend it to potions and remedies if you want to emphasize the role of clerics. You'd also prevent remedying negative effects or healing damage outside of battle for certain actions (Boomers eats a rotten apple and is poisoned for 4, but cannot remedy it until in a battle or nurtured by Ellaria). You'd also prevent QMs re-balancing battles to account for buffed heroes, and buffing would actually be more useful at the expense of costing a round or two to use the consumables. And battles could be a lot more fun this way. I would like to try it out as a QM or see it tried in another quest.
  23. OOC: Right, but it still might be safer to just let Soryx target him to lessen the chance of "using up" his other special. On another note, it might also be wise for Em to hand off his Frost Helmet to Soryx this round: he can receive both the helmet and the axes in one turn if I'm not mistaken, and can spend next turn equipping the helmet to ensure that he doesn't get OHKO'd from the front row when attacking the Shade. Hybros groans and sheathes his Sword, following Jeaux. After handing off the axes, he switches targets to the Baron, attacking with his Twin Kunai from the front row (twice). He puts the Grand Potion away, not needing healing this round.
  24. "Hm, you are right, Monk. I certainly do not want the Baron dead, even if he is in this state. Should we rethink our strategy...?" OOC: There's a 1/9 chance that Soryx will kill the Baron next round. We could wear him down with our attacks at the risk of him knocking us all out again with that special, or take the risk with the next roll. There is a much higher chance he'll knock us out at least once before we get his health low enough. Edit: Wait, I can give him my Axes this round to attack the Baron with, eliminating the chance to kill him completely when he attacks next. That means Em should attack Baron this round. Sorry for all the OOC. Summary: Monk Heals Hybros Hybros drinks Grand Potion/Attacks Gnome Hybros hands axes off Soryx receives Hybros thinks for a moment, then digs in his pack for the Dastan Dual Axes, handing them to Soryx in place of his second turn. "You should know how to use these better than I. They are a bit dull, and less lethal than that sword of yours. Be careful with the Baron, we do not want him dead." "I thought these might be useful, heheh..."
