Heroica RPG - Quest #118: The Tale of the Stolen Spirits
JimBee replied to Flipz's topic in The Heroica Archive
Hybros drank up, at this point feeling more than a little tipsy, but felt new power coursing through his veins. He shook his head to try to clear his mind. The statue gave him an oddly familiar feeling, but he wondered whether it was from the statue itself, the drinks, or... something else. He thought for a moment on his quest to find his people. Here he was, doing small jobs for Heroica when he could be looking for a way to complete his life's work. Maybe they weren't mutually exclusive, but still he couldn't help but to feel rather useless.- 506 replies

It's definitely got that JJ Abrams vibe - lots of swooping shots and dramatically lit sets - check out the stormie shot. I hope it's not too similar to the last two Star Trek movies in that sense.

Hybros inspected the plant idly, then picked up the newspaper to read it. "Maybe that is where the people are, and not the tower. We will have to find out. Lead the way, Ellaria."- 506 replies

"Yes, I was locked in a dungeon most of that time, but I remember you fighting Thothwick. That was a long time ago, before we knew about this hero business to well, eheh... Still, I hear of heroes fighting each other. I can only hope that that is not our future, Docken."- 506 replies

The latter. There's always been an overarching plan for Hybros, but the exact details have been up in the air, and the way that he would achieve the goal has been (and still is) a mystery. I think he's changed a lot as a character due to the circumstances that he becomes involved in, and his views and personality have been altered since the beginning. For example, he's still timid and cautious, but isn't afraid to be aggressive when he needs to in order to get the job done. Also, he's become less selfish and one to "look out for himself" and more utilitarian as time has progressed. Most of the changes are not of my own doing either; the quests he's been on and the characters he's interacted with have shaped him, and there has been some more direct development on the parts of Zepher, CallMePie and Sandy with their stories and NPCs. That's me speaking for my character. To anyone who puts an emphasis on roleplaying, in my opinion it's always better to let the game form the character, not the other way around (although the line can blur sometimes).

"Do not worry, it will be like old times, right Docken? It would be difficult to find something worse than the Red Assassin that we fought together." "Hm, yes, and these experiments in the tower... perhaps they have some sort of device to create more people. I have seen it before." Hybros bends down and inspects the severed hand, trying to determine if it was similar to the one they found at the campsite. OOC: Oh yes, thanks Scuba for the sets. And I forgot to mention earlier Flipz, loved the Layton reference.- 506 replies

"Hm... I am sure we will find the meaning of these notes later on. I agree we should check the rest of the town for further clues before entering the tower." Hybros perked up. Heroica RPG - Quest #118: The Tale of the Stolen Spirits
JimBee replied to Flipz's topic in The Heroica Archive
Hybros stares at the half-giant, whose name he still had yet to find out. And his dragon... the imp had only fought against dragons before, never beside one. It was a gratifying experience, and the azure-scaled serpent was good in battle. He just hoped that he wouldn't have to face this one some day. He remembered stories about dragons in the Low Kingdoms before he came to Eubric. Creatures of wealth and power, so large that they could block out the sun. He never thought that he would meet one, until his third quest in Heroica. The stories were exaggerated, yes, but Hybros had not seen anything so simultaneously ferocious and majestic. He recalled the fear that that dragon had stirred, but the imp stood strong with his companions in a grueling battle. But what he remembered most was the dragon and its young finally giving up, and taking to the skies westward towards their home in Dastan. Hybros wondered what became of them. "All that for a pile of gold... Heh! I suppose I am not much different... eheh..." he remarked to himself. He tugged on Ellaria's sleeve. "Psst, ehehm... who is that large man that we are traveling with? We have not made our acquaintance and... ehem, it seems I am too small for him to notice." OOC: The rare instance when being Lucky is a bad thing: being a Chi Monk.- 506 replies

Hybros brushes off his hands. "Well, that was not so bad, eheh... I wonder who conjured up those flesh golems, though... has anyone seen such creatures before?" "We may as well look at that storekeeprs note... and the key must open up that tower. So much for searching the whole town, right Ellaria? Hehehe..." Hybros looks around the basement for anything useful. "Docken, did you not find another note upstairs?"- 506 replies

Wait for me!(?) Admittedly the change is a bit much for just a class change, but who says people can't change all on their own? Maybe tie it to recent events in Nerwen's life, perhaps the stress of exiling an emperor, saving two kingdoms and all of the events of Debts has finally gotten to her. Or maybe they've called for a change in her outlook. I don't know, but from a character perspective it seems like she's lost her marbles.

Ah, that makes sense, thanks. So... Lucina is exactly what Roy was to Marth in Melee. Sweet spot or no, that's not a big enough difference. Same with Dr. Mario. They were both "officially" considered clones in Melee, and I don't think they're different enough now. I just don't see the point in having them in the game at all. And I do think Lucas and Wolf were confirmed as DLC, but hopefully they won't cost money. Reason to buy Nintendo products: they won't sell you a half-finished game for full price then charge you extra for "DLC". I don't know how the game will play on a regular Wii U pad, but I definitely don't want to use the Wii Remote/Nunchuck as controllers. It feels like the only proper way to play Smash is with a GameCube controller, and the adapter for Wii U costs another $50... It's funny how Smash is attracting all these Wii U sales and probably then some because of the add-ons. This game alone was a huge marketing strategy for Nintendo, and I have no doubt their sales will soar with the release of this game. Good for them because I heard that before this Wii U sales were low, which kind of makes me think that the new Smash Bros. was only made for that purpose. It plays about the same as Brawl (the graphics aren't all that different either), and overall feels like a stripped-down version of it (no Subspace Emissary or any solid campaign mode, new features like 8-man Smash and maybe even custom movesets seem gimmicky). It might as well be Brawl for the Wii, which came out almost 7 years ago. I may just be a cranky old skeptic, but to me it feels like the new Smash isn't all that new. I've read that Sakurai and company found the making of this game much more of a stressful process than previously, and it seems like they weren't too enthused about making another game either. There's also that bit about why Sakurai took out the campaign mode in the first place. Was he really that torn up about Internet spoilers or did he just need an excuse to not seek bigger goals with Smash 4? I've always been a Nintendo fan but to me it seems like they're really stretching for profits here. I haven't really been excited about this game since it was announced, unlike Brawl when I would obsessively check for every daily update on the Smash Dojo. Maybe it's just me, maybe not. All the power to Nintendo if they can pull in Wii U sales with this game, but I find myself doubting more and more that I'll be one of the people to buy a system just to play it. In other news, you can now play Smash while not paying attention in calculus.

Just so you know, the Smaller Axe only allows dual-strike for axes. The item description has not been updated but Zepher made the correction in 102. Just warning you because I made an offer for that prior to knowing about the correction, as well. If you had other plans for it then by all means ignore this. I also agree that the effect bombs should have a hefty price increase, for the reasons already mentioned.

Come to think of it, wouldn't any spellcaster with an *absorb element* artifact effectively be able to heal themselves by casting a spell of said element on themselves? Er, well, barring the chance that they roll SHIELD and cause AoE damage to the entire party... so not as good or confusing as a healing staff...

Those are all good points, especially that last one. The classes that I plan on going for in the future will typically use the same weapons. I was hoping to upgrade some of them to fit certain needs, but I also didn't realize the bit about poison/curse damage not counting towards a SOAH kill... hm...
