  1. Wow! Thanks for the info. The Little Eagle is just adorable and very high on my list of favorite polybags. And it looks great next to the Fierce Flyer.
  2. I would support $5US a month. Maybe free for those under 25... who tend to be students and or unemployed. Also I would waive the fee for mods, academy reviewers, etc., who already have paid more than enough with their time. Anyone selling on the forum should definitely be paying the fee, and sales (both sellers and buyers) probably should be limited to paying members. This could help with the lurker problem making folks join and pay before they can sell. If registered users are inactive, they could receive the same email telling them about the change and providing a three month period to switch to the monthly payment site or be automatically placed in the free version group. There could be a lesser version open to the public and non-payers except for those excluded above. It might exclude set reviews and contests/raffles/drawings, etc. I pay for the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Consumer Reports online, and they save me thousands of dollars some years. EB provides similar value to those who know how to use it. If the number of active users fell by half, would that be disastrous? There could be a hardship waiver if someone who has been active (maybe 25 posts per year) is unable to pay. But the reality is that we all buy LEGO, and many sets costs more than 60US, the proposed price of an annual EB membership. While it would be cool to get a free ride on LEGO paying for the server, we would lose our independence, and it would put LEGO in an awkward position having to turn down the other forums' request for server funding. I would rather feel free to say what I honestly feel about LEGO without worrying about their pulling their sponsorship of our server. (While I honestly detest online and most ads, I have not really noticed the ones on EB.)
  3. Thanks for the kinda sorta update on status of Parisian Cafe…guess we'll need some new initials because Palace Cinema if I recall is nicknamed PC? How about ParC? Does that offend anyone anywhere? Or is it officially the Parisian Restaurant, in which case it could be nicknamed PR….duh, do we already have one of these? Would be great to hear when it might be available so we could figure out our holiday cash flow and have enough left to buy it when it does arrive.
  4. Nada, nilch, nothing, and I loved it! No way I would go in a store on Black Friday! Trying to build all the sets lying around here is enough without adding more to the pandemonium. (But I did win three new Architecture sets on eBay yesterday ..Farnsworth, Rockefeller Center, and the Brandenburg Gate for a total of 70.US plus 17. shipping.) And am still waiting for the Parisian Cafe to show up.
  5. Wow! That does seem like an unusual place to see a LEGO ad! Here is the Youtube link, but I could not get it to load yet. Thanks for the notice….can't wait to see the ad! Wow! The ad just ran from the link I posted. It is awesome! Congrats LEGO! Targeting young fathers is brilliant!!!
  6. Wow! Choices for scale, flooring, walls, colors, etc. are just outstanding. Congratulations!
  7. OtW, that is a hilarious response….I hate it but I gotta build it!!!! Not big on malls either, but I do make an exception for our LEGO store on weekdays midday when there is not much traffic. I hope that they do make it available early because we love to build stuff on holidays, and this one looks like a winner. May have to purchase two of them to combine into a large building. Let us know if you do manage to hit the brakes at the mall and find out what is up.
  8. Have heard rumors that this is already being sold somewhere. Has anyone heard anything and where it might be available? We would love to build this modular over the Christmas holiday. Thanks!
  9. Wow! Very nice ideas and designs. Trying to finish building our WV sets…they take forever to build and seem to be missing some parts, which makes the process even slower. It seems that the entire WV theme just jumped out of nowhere the past two years and is now a real winner for LEGO. The addition of many new add ons to the WV market setting will be exciting as we begin to interpret what WV means to each of us. Thanks for the contest and for the ideas folks are sharing now. An exciting time for WV!
  10. Wow! Some nice sets! Love the dark pink car! Thanks!
  11. Taj Mahal...four days as a family build w hubby, son home from uni and myself mainly sorting. Then a full day for hubby to build wooden base containing lighting wires that operate from a switch on the wall. It looks wonderful, and we all had a part in it!
  12. Incredible build! Details are so entertaining. Way to yo!
  13. Wow! What store had the Cafe in stock? Did they let you buy it? Sometimes they have it in the back but can't sell it yet. Raleigh said they did not have it. I did come away with the small free PAB box, a free keychain, a Hobbit poster, 200US of small sets at full price, two more free PAB boxes, the free second in the series holiday set (truck for tree delivery) and triple points, so it was fine. Very few people showed up the first 30 minutes of the one hour before regular store opening time.
  14. Off the wall, your comments are well written and fun to read. Apply to me as well except that being a woman, I eyed the other sex.... Shay, I like your description of the service at your store! Concierge LEGO shopping makes me smile. And it is a helluva lot cheaper than Neiman Marcus or Sachs! I will be at the Raleigh store at 8.30 (80 min from now) w a folding chair and blue frame glasses if someone wants to email me and be my guest. My family is sleeping in after a big night out. Never been to one of these so it should be fun. I do stop by this store more than once a month and like the staff and seeing what is new in person. The invitation process sounds quite random to me, so there is no reason to be pissed off about it. They can't invite everyone every year. Glad they have it period. Not many sets I need at this point as I rarely buy multiples due to lack of space but I am excited about modulars like the new cafe and Creator houses. Cheers!
  15. My girlfriend from here (Raleigh NC) will be flying through Brisbane in early May. Anyone live in that area?
  16. Darth, If you make a list of the set numbers and quantities you want, we can look into it for you. It is hard to find many of them because of their fleeting availability in all outlets everywhere. Also we would need to know which polybags are available anywhere in Oz so that we don't ship something you can find there. Is anyone from Australia coming to the US east coast in the next five months? Maybe you could take back some polybags for fellow EBers. One of my best friends is attending her daughter's wedding there in May. Will get the details of where she is going and if it looks like any of the ten folks in their extended family will have space in their bags going over. I would be glad to coordinate this effort if you want. Fingers crossed!
  17. Wow! Fantastic inside and outside! Thanks for the photo of the real buildings, too.
  18. Congratulations! Glad you held your first event and planned the rest. Looks like everyone had a good time. LEGO building is perfect for those cold days spent indoors during the winter. Good luck at the next events!
  19. This morning the Wall Street Journal US version has an article about the competitions held in Billund for hiring LEGO designers. An interesting read…. http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303460004579193901642418812?KEYWORDS=lego
  20. I, too, am a huge fan of polybags, and it appears that the US supply is random. Must depend on how many are made and how many are sold at each stage of the marketing. A few end at Five Below or Target after a year or more. There does not appear to be a pattern of how the process works and when to expect them in a particular store. It seems that the best approach is to buy all that you may possibly want when you first spot them because many don't seem to last long in the stores. And they are a wonderful source of some parts and definitely worth collecting. It would be nice to have an idea of what is coming out and for how long, but they seem to be treated as afterthoughts.
  21. This is a great build because it looks wonderful and does not require the very expensive large palm tree leaves. Has anyone noticed how expensive palm tree parts have gotten since they seem to no longer be offering the old style palm trees in sets for over ten years? Does anyone know why TLG quit making the old style palm trees? They are much more beautiful than the new style of "palm tree" used in the Seaside House 7436....that tree really is ugly! Fortunately we saved the old palm trees in my son's pirate sets and my old Paradisa sets, but I do wish that they still made them. They are my favorite LEGO trees along with the cypresses. (MOD: Do we need a new topic: What happened to the old style of Palm Trees? Thanks!)
  22. WOW! That is absolutely gorgeous! Wonderful choice of colors! Congratulations!
  23. I am coveting the 50 by 50 black baseplate! Wish they offered those in lots of colors and at a reasonable price! Lovely parts BTW…thanks for the show and tell!
  24. What a fantastic contest with so many creative entries from all over the world! Thanks for using an inexpensive polybag that has so much meaning for those of us growing up with THE VW VAN!
  25. Wow! A wonderful addition to a Western Civ course. Outstanding microscale buildings make the whole MOC sparkle. Congratulations on a fine map, too!
