Laugh. I went to the Lego store last night and found myself looking for it though I KNOW that's unrealistic. While I was there I built 3 minifigures for $10. And thought about the fact that this set has 3 minifigures. So that's half the cost right there.

I'm not thrilled at the figures but I'm still planning to buy 2-3 if I can get my hands on them before they sell out!

How heavy is he to cart around? Doesn't seem like something you can keep in your back pocket at least

Thank you for sharing. I wish they hadn't put lipstick on ALL the figures :( It doesn't look great. The frustrated/surprised side looks better because you can barely see it.

If people have that perception, especially in America, then it can't be Lego's fault that "people" have that perception Personally, I prefer the smiley face heads you can decide for yourself who they are to an overbearance of large-lipstick heads. I don't wear lipstick. Few of my friends wear lipstick (esp for working outside) and I find that stereotype overbearing. I'm really annoyed this new Research Institute set ALL the minifigs have really thick lipstick as if to say "SEE. They have to be LADIES. MEN don't wear lipstick" Guess what. A lot of us ladies don't either.

My 6, almost 7 year old, does most of his free-form building with Duplos (I also have an almost-3 year old so we have the Duplos out and I've been amazed at how much my son prefers playing with those versus the regular Lego he also owns) And, over the last couple of weeks, since he got a couple of the blue guys, Mixels. He takes the Mixels apart and reworks them into new figures on a daily basis. I think they are less intimidating because they are not supposed to look like anything any particular.

Please show me the research that is determining what this "majority view" you are referring to is? In particular, I suspect that girls playing with minifigures tend to make more of the minifigures girls than boys who play with minifigures. So if your experience is mostly as a boy who played with their guy friends, then you are going to run into lots of people assuming most of the minifigures are boys. But if you are a girl playing with their girl friends, experience will show more of these minifigures being treated as girls as well as boys. In which case, the research would show its the user that sets the gender on the pieces. As more boys played with Lego after it specialized towards boys (end of the 1980s? early 1990s?) then yes there is going to be a greater perception of the minifigures being boys But before minifigures there were Homemaker figures (all of my first Lego people were Homemaker figures), and those were definitely made as both male and female so I don't see any "of course" about all the indeterminate Lego figures being meant to be male.

Does the boat in Ariel's Magic Kiss really float on water?

This girl is completely uninterested in Zelda or Adventure Time and I'll be picking up at least 2 sets of Research Institute. Maybe 3. I could even see ways to acquire 4 or 5. 1 for me 1 for my son who wants the dinosaur 1 for my niece to hold for when she graduates high school 1 for my next door neighbor's daughter and 1 to hold onto for a birthday party gift. At $20 its a perfect price for that. As for Space Marines... I didn't see the set in question. But as soon as I hear the words I think Games Workshop, which has Space Marines (or at least, had 10-15 years ago). I wonder if they looked similar?

I LOVE that video of the balloon. Especially that it comes with pictures for the non-video savvy among us :)

There was a time when some MTG cards were worth quite a bit. Moxes. And one of the earliest expansion sets -- Arabian Nights maybe? Alpha and Beta cards.

That would explain why I figured that was "Right" Back then is when I got into Lego. Then was out for a while.

Agreed. I would REALLY love to have the Birds project win. Got some ideas to purchase it for as gifts already. I know people would buy Dr. Who because of the licensing. But I'm not personally interested.

The Lego Friends Karate Studio has a Karate Helmet that has a "Stand" You might go look at how they did that. Lego 41002

Talking about which. Will the 2013 Winter Village be available this Christmas or should I get it this summer while I can?

Are you sure he still has it? If he's in his Dark Ages, he could have given the set away at a White Elephant gift exchange one year. -
They were. Frozen came out at Thanksgiving and we were hearing about Disney Princess set (and may have even known WHICH princess sets) before that.
