That's where that big dark red plate goes, hidden at the bottom????? If I wasn't so OCD about having the correct parts, I would definitely have changed the color of that one, that was an expensive plate. I'm still a few hundred parts away from beginning building, oh, and that pesky instruction book, gotta find one of those for under a couple hundred dollars. Construction looks good, this will keep me going to get mine ordered and commence building.

Wow, now that is a nice Lego room. Personally, for our small parts, we went to Wal-mart and got a box for fishing tackle for about $6. It has all the little dividers and you can move them around if you need more or less space. We also have the Sterilite bins for separating colors, and since we don't have a huge inventory, it doesn't take up too much space.

"The Dark Ages" - How long were you away from Lego?
LegoDad replied to Duck's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Though the years are different, this is pretty much it for me too. I played with legos from about 1981 until 1991(14 years old, about when most of us outgrow legos and find girls, cars, etc.) My mom put all my legos away when I went to college, never to be heard from again. Flash forward to Christmas 2010, my son is 4 and a half, and he gets a Lego Star Wars set as a gift, and I was amazed at how much Lego had changed, and of course, all my own childhood memories came back. I busted out all my old Lego sets to show him to build. Of course, they were not "cool" like his new one, so I decided to sell them, and was pleasantly surprised that vintage Lego was worth something. A year and a half later, we have a basement full of new Lego, a few thousand less in the bank account, as dad and son can't get enough, and his mom thinks I'm crazy. I have my modulars, he has Star Wars and City galore, and his younger sister likes to pull their heads off. Our next project is getting parts for 10179. -
Your thread and jFox's were my inspiration. My wife saw the box from my first bricklink order and was "What the hell is that"? I failed to mention the cost to her.

jFox, thanks again for all your help on this project. Unfortunately, no more 10179 manuals are available at Lego.com, I was totally bummed when I put in my order yesterday. My price is seriously piling up since I had very small inventory with which to work, and would like to do this right, meaning purchasing the expensive pieces at some point. Lego was out of the yellow technic piece for now, so I'm getting those FREE!! Lego loves giving things away if you are nice, trust me, I've received free pieces, VIP points, etc. Anyway, my piece progress as of now is: Inventory: 879 pieces.....$0.00 Bricklink #1: 1767 pieces.....$190.00 Lego.com: 1050 pieces.....$215.00 Bricklink #2: 953 pieces.....$201.00 4649 pieces......$606.00 Honestly, this is more than I was hoping to spend on this project, but will still save some money, and have the fun of building it.

Many thanks for all your help, it was amazing going through the catalog for this set on Bricklink and seeing that you would need "150" of this and that. More of one part than a lot of entire sets produced. That's funny about that bley tube, I've been searching for it's old grey counterpart for over a year now for my cloud city, only part I need for that set. EDIT: After going through my inventory, which is small, I have a good start of 879 pieces toward this set. Bricklinking will commence shortly.

$50 for the manual isn't bad, new versions on ebay and bricklink are all over $100, most around $150-200. My biggest concern is where to put this thing, it's bigger than any Legos we have displayed in the basement. The Death Star is there, but nothing of this magnitude. I am lucky enough to have a fairly large Bricklink store near me, so I will be able to fill about half of the total order with no shipping. Are then specific pieces that you recommend going through Lego vs. Bricklink? I have my Wanted List all ready, but couldn't find the tab so that pieces ordered will be deleted from my wanted list, that would save a lot of time.

After reading this and the other MF thread, I am definitely going to do this. I finished Bricklinking and Shop@Homeing Cafe Corner, so I need a new project. I had no idea you could get instructions from Lego, did I read that right? Are they official instructions or remakes? I don't have a huge inventory, so unfortunately I will be ordering about the whole freaking thing. Good luck to you guys and keep us updated.

Updating my sale finds, last weekend picked up Airport 7894 for $2.

I got about 95-99% of mine from Lego Direct both from PAB and by selecting the set and getting the parts. Lego had the dark red roof pieces when I ordered, but I had to prod them for them, they originally told me they were out, but after looking a little deeper, they "found" some. Both orders there were about $330 combined. I got lucky and found the arch and grey door from ebay CHEAP, just looked for lots where people really didn't know what they had. I got a whole lot of arches with the dark blue one for under $10, and a whole lot of doors with the grey one for $8, plus my son gets to keep all the other parts, so we're both happy. I also got the birds from ebay for about .75 a piece, all from the same seller. I still don't have the original white panels, and honestly, not sure I will unless I find a hell of a deal, because I'm not going to spend $5 per panel when only a select few will even know the difference.

Just last weekend at a garage sale, I picked up several bags of Legos for my son, but for my resale to continue my habit, picked up a 7623 IJ Temple Escape, 7781 Two Face Escape, and 7782 Batwing/Joker's Aerial Assault, all for $20! 7781 wasn't complete, and missing figs, but still an amazing deal. Last year at another garage sale, picked up a bin of Legos that included 7623 Temple Escape, 4502 X-wing, and 4501 Mos Eisley Cantina, also for $20.

I think Han and Carbonite Han are taking up the top row.

This is excellent, all it needs is a shoot at the bottom to eject Luke out and you're good to go. You're right, a system scale landing platform would be impossible, but I think that area is very recognizable with CC, and not including it is doing it a disservice also, a catch 22 if you will. I guess the set could include a smaller scale slave and/or MF like the Death Star did with the mini TIE advanced. And let's face it, the DS played fast and loose with keeping with dimensions throughout the set, and we all still love it. Amazing work done here, and can't imagine the hours put it, would love to see it built, or better yet, produced by LEGO.

I found some(relatively) pretty cheap still on ebay, I think about $.70 a piece. I couldn't find many bricklinkers that had 4 of them new. You are correct that many of the pricey parts can be traded out for another color and nobody will ever notice. Heck, most of the dark blue parts that are expensive are completely hidden. I guess I am a purist in that sense. Plus, If I do sell someday, the closer to original the better. Still not sure I will spend the $$ on the instructions for CC though, OUCH!
-
Pick a Brick(online) for sure won't have: -the doors -dark blue arches and pillars -correct white panels 1x2x3 -dark bley birds -possibly the dark red roof bricks, but someone said they made more I would try to get as many parts from PaB as you can, as they are generally cheaper than Bricklink, and you are paying a low shipping cost. As others have said on Bricklink, create a wanted list by doing a set search by cataloging the set number, and going through the inventory. Then go to your wanted list, search "by shop", and you will see shops that have what you want, allowing you to order from as few shops as possible, keeping shipping costs down. Once you figure out a lot of the nuances of Bricklink, it is very handy, with tons of info.

I voted for an R5 unit and Queen Amidala, I expect her to win in a landslide. Probably one of the most anticipated figures from the PT. I love all the redesigns that have occured for the summer wave, but she's the best. I won't buy the Gungan Sub for her, she'll be purchased separately.

Sorry to start a bank drivethru debate, I thought they were more common than they are I guess. Still would be cool though, especially if you could make the tube work. Didn't Power Miners, or something like that years back have a pneumatic device?
-
I don't envy you guys at all when it comes to shipping prices. We can send stuff around the US for next to nothing, assuming the seller isn't gouging you. I have sent some ebay stuff overseas, but for global express(to get tracking) the buyer is looking at $40 for a small box. That same box around the states is probably $8-10. Getting stuff shipped from Lego was kind of pricey for me getting all the CC parts, but I had enough VIP points to cover it, and more, helping reduce my price a bit.

That is unfortunate, I was hoping it would get beefed up a little bit. Thanks for the pics, that garage is great. A very nice recreation of the old Metro Tower.

What is Your Favorite Lego Star Wars Year?
LegoDad replied to JackJonespaw's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I went with 2007, but '06-'08 were all good years. The 6200 series and 7600 series were great. 10179 just pushes it over the top, greatest set of all time. -
HA! Yeah, almost all banks in the states have drive through. I suppose some large metro (New York) banks don't have the space for them, but every bank in my city has a drive through, even the large ones downtown.
-
Yeah, it would be hard to pay that for instructions, I personally don't have them for the set, but would like to get them to complete it. I just got back into Lego this last year after my son got a Lego set for Christmas '10, and I got hooked again after not even looking at them since I was about 13(a long time ago ), so I missed out on the first 3 mods if you include Market St as one. Probably spent about $3000 this last year on different lines of Lego for me and my son both to mess around with. Sold my old ones for about $750, so that helped curb the price. My wife thinks i'm crazy, but I really don't spend money on other things like video games and such, so there was plenty of money to feed this (now) addiction.

Well, I was going to get this set anyways, since I want to have all the modulars, but seeing the pictures only makes the purchase that much easier. I am really liking this building, from the color scheme, the interior details, minifig selection, some new pieces, etc. The use of the garage door panels for the skylights is really cool too, if it has been done before, I haven't seen it, so I was impressed at the resourcefulness. The main entrance is very nice also. Overall, I think the only thing anybody could complain about is the price, but with the increased piece count and minifigs, I guess what would you expect. I hope the haunted house isn't in the modular line, I am not excited about that, but I know my son will be, as he's all into the Monster Fighters that are coming out. This is the perfect building to add to the modular line, and rounds out everybody's towns very well. I would love to see a modular police headquarters, even though we seem to be inundated with police/fire themes in Lego. I think a bank headquarters would be cool too, with a drive through of course! And even though there was the theater with the Town Plan, one of those with a big marquee would be great.

Mind you, I'm in the states, but it cost me around $350 to build this from scratch. The only pieces I am missing are the correct 1x2x3 panels for the windows, I have found everything else that is correct to the instructions. Ebay has been my friend for the dark blue arch and bley door, got them pretty cheap compared to bricklink, just looked for lots that had them in them, and gave the extra pieces to my son. Bought all the general pieces from Lego, as they had about 98% of the parts needed for the set. If you want instructions, they are going to run you about $100 it looks like from Bricklink, pretty outrageous.

WOW, thanks for the show pics. That made my night. Jabbas Palace, Skiff are no brainers. I love the Sith Troopers, the guy with them, and Queen Amidala, will Bricklink or Ebay those. I'm not into TOR game stuff, but the figures for them are really cool, the ships, not so much. CW Padme is very unfortunate looking, but wasn't buying that anyway.
