  1. I have to agree. But, my solution would be to have a dedicated Builder's Block thread, that could be stickied, and then you have only one question thread which would keep the forum cleaner, and make it easier to find solutions.
  2. When I first saw this, I thought it was an aircraft pushback tug, but then you showed off the real truck, and I got it. I like how in the video, you show perfectly the advantages of this configuration. But, let's hope you don't have to drive over a leaf, this thing could get hung up really easily.

  4. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: LEGO NEEDS TO BRING BACK RACERS. This is not a Technic set. It embodies basically nothing that makes Technic Technic. A set like this would be a much better as a Racers model.
  5. Gah, why does this always happen when I'm about to head on a trip away from my collection? Oh well, I'll have plenty of time when I come back. This might just be the most open ended contest we have had ever.
  6. I can not for the life of me understand how this travesty has more parts than the Spider Crane, yet can have so few functions and technical aspects. This is just terrible. Where are all these parts going?
  7. Gad, I thought Lego was above this kind of corporate megablocks. I guess not. "We won't change anything", they said. It was a lie. It was all a lie. I kind of hate the conflict of interests, and sadly, there seems to be little we can do about it, besides jump ship. What's next, Lego buying fan forums? Price regulations on how much you can charge? I also hate the previous owners of Bricklink for throwing their fans under the bus. They could have said no. But, they don't care, they made their money. I'm really sad, because Brickowl tends to be more expensive.
  8. I've seen part photodegrade/fade, but I've never seen them do this.
  9. No, but in years past, the response to new sets has been far more positive, with a few neutral, and very few negatives. And even then, the negatives are usually something like "I need to mod this", or "This type of set doesn't appeal to me, it's an X and I prefer Y". Now, the response to sets is overall a lot more negative, and I was thinking, is this just my nostalgia, or my standards changing as I mature? But, I look at this forum, and almost everyone is like this. Almost everyone does not like the direction Technic is going. And, the negatives are more due to design than taste. Like, this set we are discussing, there is basically nothing worth modding, because there are so few redeeming features. It's only good as a parts pack.
  10. I have not seen this often in Lego, and most other applications use a motor control system that's actually rated for the application, rather than having to kludge one together like this. It's a good idea, though.
  11. I'm not sure. You could have the LA geared such that the control knob is geared up, making operation faster, or a work gear mechanism using the gear racks and holders, or maybe even a ratcheting mechanism like on the boom. Or pneumatics, of course. There are many ways to skin this cat, but I'm not sure what's best.
  12. What? No B model? Is Lego going to be ditching B models for all of Technic? I sure hope not. I don't build B models often, but some look really good, and it gives you two options right off the bat with a set. And, sometimes a B model is so good it drives purchases of the set, to get duplicates to display as the B model. I sure hope Lego isn't having trouble with their designers. Or, maybe we have something really big in 2020 that is the reason for this. I'll just be upset if they're doing it purely as a cost saving measure. The only thing about this set I don't like is the fact that it uses a linear actuator for the boom. Often times, manually cranked linear actuators are a real pain and tedious to use. Other than that, it's a very nice mid scale set. Although, I still want to see Lego make a nice 9 axle crane, which I think they could do.
  13. http://www.minifigsandbricks.co.uk/ You might give these guys a try. On my side of the pond we have a franchise called Bricks and Minifigs, and they buy all kinds of stuff. You might not get as much as Ebay or Bricklink, but it is easier. I think you could also find other independent Lego shops in the UK, but there are brick and mortar stores that will buy used sets.
  14. Honestly, this approach would probably end up with something breaking no matter what, given that you have XL motors and thin 20z bevel gears. It would be far better to extend the space between the motors and use full 20z gears. What is this going to be used for? I feel like you are going to break a lot of gears if this is some kind of drivetrain for a vehicle.
  15. I don't think there is any way to get a good estimate of parts in a MOC, there are just too many variables at play. Even with weight, you can have lots of parts that don't weigh much, or a few that weigh a lot, which would skew your results. Same thing goes with dimensions. Given how the MOC in question is not only big but also almost solid, I'd guess at least 6000 parts, possibly more.
  16. I like this so far, but I still think you have room for an actual gearbox like others have suggested. It might not be quite as compact, but luckily for you, you only have 4 speeds to contend with.
  17. Unfortunately, with regards to B models, I feel that some sets are just too specialized to have a B model, while still having it be different from the A model. I find it just as bad honestly when the set has a B model that is just changing the topping, like 9398. Honestly, would 42099 be any better if it had a B model that was just the same chassis with a different body? I don't think so. I also think that licensing comes into play, because 3 of the 4 models this year that don't have B models are licensed. Or, due to the ongoing Control+ development, there was not enough time to spare to make B models. It may also be that with Control+ models, there are no B models because that would require coming up with a whole new profile, and all of the attendant crap like achievements.
  18. Pics or it didn't happen. It sounds cool, but I have trouble picturing it, and pics of progress would be helpful, for anyone who wants to build a crane.
  19. The wheels are mounted on the black pieces shown in this picture.
  20. I'm willing to bet that the tow truck would not be able to lift the crane off the ground, but it could lift the front of the crane up enough to move it. A 4 axle mobile crane like a Liebherr LTM 1070 4.2 only weighs about 40 tons, going for 10 tons per axle, so I don't think that's beyond the realm of possibility for a large tow truck. But, I think you may have actually been seeing a truck crane, not a mobile crane. There is a distinction, believe it or not. All terrain cranes are like 42009, and can be quite heavy. They have specialized carriers, and usually have single tires. Truck cranes based on a standard truck chassis, minus the cab, and are lighter, so I think that is what you were seeing. Well, real crawler cranes exist, some even have telescopic booms, but there is nothing like this. (Currently.) I'm sure such a thing could exist, but there is no direct real world equivalent.
  21. You know, something irritates me about the price. But not for this set. This set costs what you'd expect as set with 4108 parts to cost, about $450. So, why can't 42099 cost only $90-120? Or even better, the recent tracked racer things. Why can't they be like $50? The massively inflated prices of those sets make little sense if this set does not have that RC tax added to it. Or, maybe there's something I'm missing here.
  22. How? How did you make a B model that looks better than the A model?
  23. Those tire are actually just an LDD stand in for these ones: These are from set 8675, and apparently have very good grip.
