Build from Lego sets that I own
Sjuip replied to jaap's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I know, I know!! It's in your extensive list "what to want for LDD5"! But it won't hurt to shout it out aloud again, can it? Yep. I tried that also - no joy either. Somehow the newer LDD versions don't like the old *.lif files. Shame! Anyway, I keep the stock of old *.lif - just in case... -
Build from Lego sets that I own
Sjuip replied to jaap's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Welkom, Jaap! Here is a (little) explanation for the 'Filter Bricks by Boxes' - as far as my own knowledge goes (I am a Windows user). As you might have already found out, this option enables to use the program with a limited amount of bricks (i.e. from a certain set). In the present version of LDD (4.2.5) I doubt whether there are many people using it. In the early days of LDD, many Creator sets were listed under this button. That way, you could see - during building in LDD - whether or not you had enough real bricks from a set to actually build the model. I myself used this option a lot with Set 10183 Hobby Train: it was a true sport to find out if you could build a new MOC from that set purely on the computer. There were two downsides: - You can only filter by single set. In other words: you cannot build from the contents of several sets combined together. - Only a limited amount of sets were available in LDD. There used to be much more than are available now, but still limited, mainly to Creator sets. The contents are/were available through *.lif files that are/were installed with the LDD software (in Windows they are in a folder named 'Pallettes'). To make full use of the filter option, LEGO would have to add a *.lif file for each individual set ever released. That would be the equivalent of the databases that form the set inventories that you can find om www.peeron.com and www.bricklink.com . Obviously, that is not going to happen. Somewhere along the line in Version 3 or the earlier editions of Version 4, they changed the amount of, and the accessability to, the *.lif files . Previous lif-files (such as my beloved 10183) were removed and the program no longer recognised lif-files that were manually added (as I used to do with lif-files from earlier editions). So: only for a very few currently enabled sets you can check brick availability when building something else. And no, you cannot make and import inventories from sets to overcome this - you can load a Set LXF and disassemble it in LDD (make neat rows of parts ), store as a inventory LXF and use it for new builds. And no, the filter option does not allow you to combine inventories fro multiple sets.... Personally, I would love to have the possibility to the filter against more sets. Top of the bill would be if LDD would allow the creation of custom-build LIF-files - that would enable you to make your own inventories to toy around with... -
The strangest thing! I am pretty sure it worked before (pre-4.2.5), since I reported it here, when we were discussing duplicates. But: Flexible Rail Track (64022) does not (no longer?) attach to any other type of Rail Tracks, neither to the logical 53400/53401, but also not to 74746/74747, nor the switch points 75541/75542! EDIT: This bug has been solved partially in LDD version 4.3.5: FlexTrack 64022 now does connect with RC Tracks 53400/53401.

[KEY TOPIC] Official LEGO Sets made in LDD

It took some creative LDD building, this monster , but finally here it is! 4957 - Ferris Wheel - Theme: Creator [bricklink] [brickset] [Peeron] 4957 Version 1 LXF Notes: - No issues with bricks, colours, decorations or adhesives!! Only the two White Rubber V-Belts (70902) are placed separately. - Major fault: I could not get the supporting frame to link up with the ground plate. The supposed angles of the beams are outside LDD tolerances . Therefore, the linking axles in the bottom ends are not connected (the frame and wheel 'float' above the ground plate). The model is built from instructions. I do not own the set, so I do not know how much strain the beams of the supporting frame are under in the actual model. - If anybody can get the frame to link up: let me know!- 5,046 replies

You beat me to it, Zinfinion! I just had figured out how to scaffold and free-move the thingie in place (brilliant idea from Superkalle ), when I saw your reply. Good work. I can now amend the LXF for the Train Station Set.
-
When trying with the real bricks I already sensed it was too loose and therefore difficult for LDD. So indeed, it is not actually a LDD bug. Anyway, good to hear that you already checked and that it's not 'recommended' anymore. I have not yet tried to scaffold or 'free-move' it in it's place - will check.

4556 - Train Station - Theme: Trains [bricklink] [brickset] [Peeron] 4556 LXF Notes: - Different decorations on minifig faces. - Different or missing decorations on minifig torsos. - Different decoration on Tile 2x2 (gauges). - Missing decoration on Container Box Door 4346 (mail) and on Tile 1x2 (arrow). - LDD does not allow Brick 1x1 with Four Studs (4733) to fit on Tile 2x2 with Pin (2460), probably due to illegal method. Problem has been reported here. Therefore Tile with Pin is replaced by Plate 2x2 with 1 Stud (87580). - Window 1x4x6 (6160) not in LDD. Replaced with Window 1x4x6 Frame with 3 Panes (57894) with Glass 57895. But maybe even more important: this thread now contains the LXFs of all TRAINS sets from 1998 to the present day (and all except one from 1993-2011 ...) Edit: problem with turnstile solved with help from Zinfinion and Superkalle.- 5,046 replies

A small problem of which I'm not even sure whether is legal build (to current standards, at least): LDD does not allow Brick 1x1 with Four Knobs (4733) to be fitted on the pin of Tile 2x2 with Vertical Pin (2460). See picture. I encountered this little bugger while rebuilding Train Station (Set 4556) in LDD 4.2.5. In the set, this construction is used for a turnstile - so after fitting, the brick should be able to move easily. See instructions - page 13 and 14. I have tried this with the real bricks. It does fit without strain - the Brick fits loosely, because the wider outer edges of the Pin fit into the spaces that are left open by the four knobs on the sides.

Digital Designer Language Problems
Sjuip replied to shauneeee's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Welcome to the forum! I assume you have tried to change the language setting via 'Edit' and 'Preferences'? If not, please do try. If that is not working either, I probably cannot offer you a solution other than making sure that all 'traces' of LDD (files, register entries) should be removed from your system before reinstalling. Could it be that you are using an operating system (e.g. Windows) that is installed with a different (German?) language setting? I have experienced problems with other programs that also couldn't be installed in English, since the OS was non-English. -
A minor bug in one of the new parts. It concerns 92712 Conveyor Belt 4x16 (mis-spelled 'conveyer' in LDD ). You can fit technic axles to the axle bushes at either end of the belt frame (coloured orange in real life). But: if you then select both the belt and the axles by using the connected selection tool (and clicking on the belt), the program does not recognise the connection. If you start moving it around, the axles stay behind. It does see the connection, though, when you click (in connected selection) on the axle..... . Then the belt including the axles can be moved around..

Some newies questions about LDD 4.2.5
Sjuip replied to Hoexbroe's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
You can move parts that LDD does not recognise as connected simultaneously with the others, though, with the group function. As far as I understand it, the group function 'remembers' relative positions of bricks. If you have all elements (connected and not-connected) together in a group and you rotate/move this group, even the parts that are not recognised as being connected will move/rotate (since they belong to the group). -
Most wanted bricks for next LDD update
Sjuip replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I would like to request an 'oldie-goldie' that is still going strong. It has been used in 28 sets from from 1974 till 2011. Part 3492c01 - Crane Bucket - Complete Assembly (Top, Jaws, Spring) I know, it is not really a part needed for daring constructions, but a true City or Minifig sized construction model is incomplete without it... -

Costy, Couldn't help noticing that your Garage employees are parolees: they have the body decoration that is normally used for prisoners (on white bodies). I would not buy a second hand car there . With the new version 4.2.5 of LDD, the correct minifig body for the blue bodied minifigs is there, though it is not visible in the Extended Mode Decoration Tool. Switch to the regular LDD mode and search for "mini upper part". Check the blue coloured bodies: the required decoration with the orange stripes, breast pockets and white sweater is there! Simply pick it and switch back to Extended.- 5,046 replies
