Hello everyone! I have been thinking for quite a while to make my very first 8x8 trialtruck. After studying different designs by different builders, I found that there is two main techniques. The first one is to build a 8x8 Tatra. Simple, Simple, Simple, since my Tatra Suspension design is very modular, resulting in it being super easy to make into a 8x8. So, I do not want to do that because the whole purpose of technic is to challenge yourself! My other common option is to make a multiple-axis pendular suspension. If you didnt understand that, I mean a suspension that holds a double-axle unit, and has a pivot point on the middle of the double-axle unit, and also another pivot point mounted on the pivot holder going side-to side. I probably just confused you more, but those who did get it...thanks :D
Anyways, I am hoping to build something with multi-pivotal suspension, kind of like Sheepo's Lizard 8X8. I am probably going to use 3X PF XL motors, two for the front axle unit, and one for the rear axle unit. The motors will all be MOA or motor-on-axle. I am also hoping to use dual steering up-front, powered by a PF M Motor.
Dual battery boxes & a winch are a high probability too.
that is what I was thinking of making.
Next, let me move on to some questions...
1.) how would I make a frame to accommodate the dual-pivot?
2.) should I put some type of linkages between the two axles?
3.) how can I add shock absorbers?!?
Thanks for reading. below are some of the ideas in pictures I was thinking of using:
