Sweet! Looks just like it, too! Now you need to make a diamond one so you sing Tobuscus' "I can Swing my Sword" song. BTW, the Inventory/Health HUD is a nice touch, but only 23 cobblestone? Not gonna be building much with that.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 10 Discussion
Laura Beinbrech replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I finally was able to get down to the "local" LEGO store (if you can call 2 hours away local) and went through every dadgum series 10 pack they had, and didn't find ONE Sea Captain or Medusa... IMO, they have entirely too many baseball catchers, sad clowns and motorcycle mechanics in this series (seriously, like every other fig that I felt was a motorcycle mechanic and every third was either a sad clown or baseball catcher). On the plus side, there were also a TON of Revolutionary War soldiers, so I was able to get a decent amount of blue coats (6 out of the 8 I ended up buying.... I could have had a lot more, but I wanted to leave some for other people)... Of the remaining ones, I did get a Sky diver (if you ditched his helmet and parachute, replaced his hip joint with a dark bley one and gave him a medium azure space helmet, he'd be fit right in with the ADU forces, and I happen to have an extra ADU helmet) and a Tomahawk warrior... If they ever get these in at the local Voldemart or Target, I might also be interested in picking up a few Amazons, Roman Centurions and some more Tomahawk warriors, but aside from those and the Medusa and Sea Captain, this series is pretty much a miss for me...- 1,076 replies

Rufus, don't feel too bad about dropping this project off for 6 months.... It's been about 5 months since I was last active on EB myself (mainly due to issues with getting settled into a new house and playing lots of Minecraft, well mostly minecraft), and was happy to see this finished when I came back. You did an excellent job, and I just had a flash of insight/idea: You kept mentioning all the parts you had to replace because they were chewed on, and I had a lot of chewed on parts from some of my old Classic Pirate sets that survived my first dark age... The main reason my parts were chewed was because that was practically the only way to get some of the longer plates separated, and even as an adult with greater hand strength, I've also slightly nicked plates with my fingernails trying to separate them. Now one thing I've noticed, starting in the second half of 2012 was that LEGO started including the new orange Brick Separators in every set that was about $50 or more (i.e. larger sets), and I'm wondering if feedback from parents/AFOLs regarding tendencies of kids to separate plates with their teeth was behind this new policy. If so, then kudos to LEGO, and hopefully 20 years from now when some kid is trying to restore their "classic" Lord of the Rings set, they won't have the heartache of chewed up parts to deal with.

What he said. I particularly love the way you created the large windows on the fab by combining all the different standard window sizes into one groovy pattern.

Review: LEGO The Lone Ranger: 79106 – Cavalry Builder Set
Laura Beinbrech replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Licensed
Wow! This set turned out even better than I hoped it would when I first heard the rumors late last year. It is interesting that you mentioned the Frontier patrol set, since I happen to have one that I bought brand-new back in 1997, and unfortunately, I only bought one. This set is essentially a beefed up version of that classic set, and THIS time I won't make the mistake of ONLY buying one (I'm getting at LEAST 3).- 26 replies

Classic Blacktron I was always one of my favorite Space themes, and you've done righteously by it, I'd say! I especially like the fact that you decided to use the Blacktron I color scheme for the vehicles.

2013 Friends Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Laura Beinbrech replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in LEGO Town
Wow, I come back from my moving/Minecraft-induced hiatus and find this thread. I definitely like the upcoming friends sets, particularly the fact that they've actually included some boys for a change (even if they DO look kinda like Justin Bieber). I'm definitely going to have to get the Dolphin cruiser, which should come as no surprise to those who are familiar with my usual builds Of course, I'll likely end up militarizing it, but I just love the fact they have the boat hulls in white. Also, I found the new series 2 collectible animal mini sets at the local target the other day and got the bunny one for my wife, which resulted in much squee from her end. I'm also thinking about getting the Rehersal stage set, mainly for Stephanie's outfit... With a bit of tweaking, I could easily make her into an anime-style Magical girl. -
Next CUUSOO set: 21103 Back to the Futureâ„¢ Time Machine
Laura Beinbrech replied to Blakstone's topic in LEGO Licensed
Well, considering that Lone Ranger is a DISNEY license, and how Disney tends to be extreme copyright zealots, then I can say that it's pretty much a given, hence why Pirates was dropped as soon as PoTC came out.... Anyways, I'm really happy that the Delorean is getting made! I'm defintely getting at least two (one for me and one for my wife). -
Interesting idea, taking the mobile HQ and turning it into a stationary outpost..... I am also one (which is why the Blue Squad is my favorite Galaxy Squad team, since they can be almost seamlessly integrated into the Alien Conquest line), and have a couple ADU-based MOCs and MODs on the way (including one that's based on a certain jet plane from a popular PC shooter from the '90s).

(MOD) ADU Mobile Command Center (Earth Defense HQ Mod)
Laura Beinbrech replied to Laura Beinbrech's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Thanks again for the kind words, guys! Mr. Timms: I was already able to obtain a Jet Copter for $10 less than MSRP through brick link and posted my initial mod to it... I'm in the process of revising said mod and making a red & white version of it and will be hopefully posting them soon... I need to set up my new light box and give it a good test run first, though. -
Me too! I liked everything about that set except the small ADU prison pod wagon... Even the small Alien interceptor that came with it. Of course I had to go and modify the heck out of it, but still I liked the overall design of the set.

REVIEW: 75001 Republic Troopers vs. Sith Troopers
Laura Beinbrech replied to Moexy's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm definitely buying multiples of these! They will be very useful in my own setting, and two of the Sith speeders can be combined with one of the Kraang Lab Escape sets to make some little Alien Conquests flying saucers.... -
Fleet of the Terrarian Confederation: Dropship BumbleBee
Laura Beinbrech replied to MrBrick&BoB's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Oh, and here I was thinking that the Commissar was Ciaphas Cain... ;) Good job on it, though: The WH 40K Space Marine and Commissar were instantly recognizable. -
I second this motion, shall we move to vote? Personally, I'm either going to just wait until the sets are available at the local Voldemart/Target or just buy them when I go down to the LEGO store... As much as I like them (particularly the Swarm interceptor... Loads of useful bits there), I don't feel like paying Toys R Us' loan shark prices for them....

Glad you guys were amused. ;)

...Or you could just call it , since I don't thing GW has a trademark on that term....
-
So, what he's basically saying is that "Da red wunz goes fasta!" ....I didn't know Billy was an Ork. Definitely is reflected in the designs of their vehicles, though.
-
I'm with you guys: I don't care what they call them as long as they get made.

Well, actually, "Space Marine" is registered by Games Workshop, however space marine is not, for the simple expedient that they are two common words used in the English language, and no copyright or trademark law allows such to be registered.... Who knew that a simple capitalization could cause so much trouble. Of course, that's why the only GW products I'll buy is some of the Black Library books... Games Workshop is the Apple and Micro$oft of the tabletop gaming world: They'll sue anybody and everybody who makes anything even remotely like theirs (including Blizzard, another company that's infamous for sending in the lawyers at the slightest provocation). Here's hoping everything gets sorted out soon.

Excellent point: I've found similar trends with real-life place names: For instance, if you know Japanese, pretty much all Japanese town names go from being highly exotic and strange to downright boring: e.g., Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Nagasaki all mean Eastern Capitol, Big Hill, Capitol City and Long Point (as in the geographical meaning), respectively... Perhaps some of these set names were the result of things getting "lost in translation", but who knows....
-
That probably is it: Back in the good old days (mid-late 1980's and early '90s), we didn't have this "internet" thingy, so there wasn't as much pressure to get preliminary info out, and sets were available for AT LEAST two years, and themes usually lasted longer... Back in them days, you had sets with awesome names like the Blacktron Battrax! Futuron Star Defender 200! Space Police (I) Galactic Peace Keeper! and other cool names. Now, you have sets being only available for a year (or less!) and themes that usually only last a year, two at most, unless they're licensed (Ninjago and Space Police III were the two BIG exceptions), and the names of the non-licensed themes (with the exception of, again, Ninjago and Space Police III) tend to be rather simplistic and, somewhat rushed. Of course, I usually don't care because when I buy a set it either (a) gets built once, if at all, then added to the piece inventory or (b) moderately to heavily modified if I particularly like the design, with the minifigs being assigned to one of my pre-existing factions. My main criteria for set buying are (a) what kind of useful/interesting pieces does it have that I can't just get via PAB or easily Brick Link and (b) how useful the minifigs are for my collection, and I could care less about the "official" back story, even in licensed sets (I've bought at least 4 Hoth Rebel Battle packs just so I could use the troopers' torsos for the Federal Republic regular army and the sergeant's torso for the CSA Marines, and the Uruk-Hai battle pack just for the Orcs). Interestingly enough, this is pretty much how it was when I was a kid, with the main exception that I would ALWAYS at least build the set according to the instructions at least once before dismantling it or modifying it....
-
OK, I'm in with you guys on this one... I happen to have a faction that has red and white aircraft, so I was also rather disappointed with the lack of any Red team vehicles.
-
Actually I was quite ecstatic when I found out that they were using the ADU blue for the blue squad, since that meant that I could use them to keep expanding my ADU ranks without having to rely on Brick Link.

Awesome work on your diorama, Julandrius! I love the wrecked cargo ship left stranded after the worst of the flooding receeded.

I just realized something recently: The Swarm Interceptor looks like a white and light blue version of one of the common enemy planes in Raptor: Call of the Shadows (an old DOS game in a similar style to Gradius): ...I wonder if it's just a coincidence or if someone on the Galaxy Squad team is a Raptor fan....
