I'm going to the Jedi Temple to start my training, I hope!
SlyOwl replied to Legostein's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm not so sure about that - contests are an important form of publicity for forums, and encourage members to join. But it's your decision Oh, and looking forward to that castle -

I'll add my voice to the chorus of praise! I think it's a good thing that the Battle of Endor came with those 2x2x3 slopes in light bley - otherwise you'd be paying $5 a piece for the singular release of the part in light grey in one of the pirate sets (can't remember which offhand). Very nice use of the 8x8 grill and that otherwise rather useless grey slopey thing BTW, you should really consider entering the MCCV on Classic-Castle... -
Disqualified. Thanks for pointing that out The Creative Critiquing in this topic so far will still be counted, though
-
It's possible they were basing it on Steve Witt's statement -

Nice! The roof is becoming one of my favourite techniques these days (even though I am yet to use it myself), and the Indy fig parts fit in really well here. The subtle ground texturing and colouring, with the well dispersed plants, add a lot to this. The non-boxiness of the landscaping is a definite improvement on San Pedro.

Jungle island/Polynesian tribal area sounds good. A raft and a shark too, perhaps? Could two of the ships be fighting, using the ice-cream or skeleton arm cannon smoke techniques? Good luck with the display!
-
Yup, that's fine Just build it all yourself

Now I'll have to get my hands on some train-ish pieces! Now then, wasn't there a pirate who robbed a train, Morgan as I recall...?
-
800x600 or smaller, either orientation. The "violent" aspect of this MOC is permissible - the implied "violence" may never happen, it's down to the viewer's innterpretation of who is outside of whether this fits. I think it's Girl Guides selling cookies.
-
Congrats to the winners Train is something I'll have to start thinking about doing now...
-
I should have got more of these sets at the time - they were way above their contemporaries back then, and with the new parts and colours available should be fantastic nowadays. Signed!

Great interview, and thanks Iz for volunteering! Australian accents crack me up Got a question of my own: What do you think of the Durmstrang ship? (Pirates + HP) Would "North Sea" pirates appeal to you?
-
Please don't bump old threads unless you've got something to add. Thanks

'Behind The Helm' Episode #11 - Cap'n Blackmoor
SlyOwl replied to Captain Zuloo's topic in LEGO Pirates
I enjoyed the interview, thanks guys (and gal)! I'm looking forwards to the icecream technique unveiling already I must get me some of those sometime... 40cm for a brickbuilt ship? That's still pretty huge. And it's good to know that pirates, even if they are land-based, still exist to disrupt people's gnomes! -
First up, welcome to Eurobricks! The old Bluecoats are generally said to be French, and the old Redcoats are English, as these match the uniforms of the time most closely. The Armada troops are Spanish, or sometimes Portuguese. The new Redcoats have no specific country assigned to them, but they are mostly English the the eyes of fans. Be sure to check out the Great Pirate Torso Library for custom designs, and this thread has got a discussion about what the different factions represent.
-
Ooh, nice looking and cheap! I may just get some when the more piratey/civilian torsos become available. Tell me, how well does the bicorn sticker fit? - Does it crinkle over the curved surface?
-
It looks useful enough for MOCing with - I would personally like to see some moulded wood elements from Lego. Imagine a 2x2 round brick, with grooves on the sides, which could be stacked to make pillars/trees. The grooves would not be symmetrical all the way around, so the brick could be rotated 90' each time, to give a varying pattern.

Hmm... seems pretty common to me! (I was also thinking the exo-force hair in red was an "official" part, but I was thinking of the other type) The plain black ones are non-production, but I was suggesting a way not to have to spend more
-
The majority of these are non-production parts, no? I have noticed that over time, the speckling on my viking helmet as decreased, probably as a result of the weak acid in my skin. You might be able to brasso/use some cleaning liquid to remove the speckle from a standard helmet to achieve a black one. But that's all the suggestions I've got
-
Good on you! This is very reminiscent of those on the Cape Flats, and you've got loads of the details in there - from the corrugated iron and road-side stall to the decrepit car and tyres on the ground. I would suggest to convert the two trees into telegraph poles going diagonally over the diorama, as those were a more common sight than trees, as I recall. The chaotic nature of the slum makes it difficult to make it aesthetically photographical as a whole, but in this instance I like it: each individual shot is a different perspective from a street-eye view, with a different focus. Keep it up!
-
Looking good! By the way, we prefer if you just update your original thread, instead of creating a new one each time. I'll merge these and update your first post I guess what you're saying is that the level of detail in this one could be condensed to the size of a Small Category, and thus would probably fare better in the eyes of the voters.
-
As said earlier, this fits The Calm After the Storm theme very well, despite the violent connontations - after all, these are implied in the contest's name! So this MOC is allowed, but Christo may want to - and may - adjust his entry according to what the voters are looking for.
-
Thanks for the comments all! Thanks, Otters It's my most emotional MOC to date. It's a bit cheeky really. The section with the glass is actually attached to the wall behind it, and the 1x2 tile wedges in the gap, quite firmly. And congrats to you too! Now then, what about sweatshops... I'm not so sure how many songs there are out there that can be so easily translated into brick, but I do have plans for a parody verison of this song, and perhaps a song from Les Miserables. It reminds me of dry, dusty flagstones, not tarmac (which is old dark grey in my eye) Thanks Fangy! Told you I'd do Town someday Only trouble is Mr Walrus can't hold onto it...

I fixed up your entry images; right click on the image and select "Copy image location". I'll close this, as the question is answered.

In your post, you've got the code correct. However, the URLs you've used don't exist on the internet, only on your computer (http://Desktop/Classic-Pirates/DSC00143.jpg) What you need to do is upload them to a website, and then take the URLs from there. I would recommend www.brickshelf.com, and you can see a tutorial here. Hope this helps, and looking forward to seeing your MOC!
