  1. I'm opening mine day-by-day too. Brickbeard! A great start, and nice to get spare eps too. Table and lantern - cute addition. Can't wait to open today's (which I'm trying to forget it something about a red mug and a parrot...) It adds a slightly gothic touch, which may appeal to her.

  5. We're going to let this one into the contest, as an exception to the rule It's late, but we've got big hearts (but don't try us!)
  6. Brickshelf is back! I finished this last weekend, but didn't want to clog up Flickr with loads of photos of it... See the pirate version here
  7. Alright, ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED! Voting will begin shortly; all Creative Critiquing will be considered until the end of the voting, so what you post in the voting thread and meantime will be considered. Pretty much...
  8. Seriously epic stuff - well done I love the non-minifig scale; kind of reminds me of tin soldiers, yet more poseable. You must have spent a small fortune on that army!
  9. Technically Midnight EST (so +6 hours or so from GMT), but we're not going to be tight, so early tomorrow is good as well.
  10. Here's the Brickset page...
  11. Just to add to what Zuloo said, as the category sizes are based around the baseplate size, the overlap from the ribs isn't really a problem, as they don't give an unfair advantage in terms of total space used up for the "content" (in this case golf action) of the scene. In conjunction with the overlap on the other side, however, it ends up a little excessive. Then again, I think to myself - "as this would fit into the small category by removing a row of sand green bricks, surely it isn't worth asking him to remove them, and just let it stay in the small category?" The decision is borderline, but this belongs in the Medium Category. Knock off a row of bricks (preferably two), and we'll let it slip into the small category, should you want that.
  12. Hehe, good to see it here! As I said on Flickr, I really like this MOC as a whole - there's a nice variation in styles and landscape within a managable baseplate size. My only criticism would be the slightly square edges of the beach on the far side.
  13. Hey, no problem! Good luck in both
  14. Lucymorgan is a spammer/spambot --> banned. This ended a while back, so closed.
  15. One week left, and over 50 entries so far... time to start building - or wrapping up! Rules - - - Creative Critic - - - Prizes
  16. Sooo shiny! That's a lot of chromey-goodness. I always see your pics on brickshelf, never understand them, but love them nonetheless!
  17. Thanks again everyone As I said on Flickr, yup; seems like it! Hinge plates. I tried with SNOT bricks, but the palm leaf pieces don't hold on well because they have to be tilted to achieve the desired effect. Room... something like that!
  18. Hey, thanks for the great review Atlantis looks really promising, something I may keep my eye on. The fig is top notch (always nice to get another scared face) and those new barb/tooth parts look great. They look like they're made of the softer plastic muskets are made of - ?
  19. Mariann Asanuma (Model Gal) reviews 8058 Atlantis Guardian of the Deep for us Check it out here!
  20. Thankyou all Already taken it apart... Maybe it'll be okay in the Eastern Life category, but if not... I wanted to do one, but no, I ran out of time. Sure, go for it! You must have a really weird house though!
  21. Thanks everyone Last week was very stormy and cold, so I think I conveyed some of that into the MOC It's my simplified sorting system that lets me build this fast - essentially by colour, not type. Yeah, BF Arabian helmets. Not that many bricks (I'll post pics some day...) - just efficient use. I ran out of light grey/bley for this, so ended up stacking plates, and then those ran out, so I used the backs of various slope bricks... Vikings really could have gone the extra mile there... My collection is mainly light grey, not light bley, so those bricks are only used (and at random, not specifically placed) if I come across them. I tend to use tiles more on the lower walls (don't know why, but I do ), and around "features", such as windows, doors, corners, buttresses. I like using 2 1x2 tiles on different levels, slightly offset, as the basic "unit" of brickwork - it doesn't look extravagant like loads of tiles do together on a blank wall, or understated like a single tile, and it isn't symmetrical. Other texturing e.g. grill bricks, log bricks, follows a similar pattern, apart from it is mainly in the areas where I expect war damage to have occurred e.g. towers, battlements. I prefer to use log bricks over larger areas, to either simulate large areas of damage or missing plaster. Ultimately I try to get an even texture across the building, without it looking too forced; random, yet ordered to avoid blank areas. For this particular MOC, I was only going to use tiles for texturing, but I ran out of bricks, so ended up using log and grill bricks anyway. Cheers again
  22. You've got a great sense of action here, using mainly classic pieces, if I'm not mistaken. Regarding categories, this seems to fit best within the medium category, but technically it fits within the large category (16+ studs in one dimension). A solution to this would be to build the MOC diagonally across a 16x16 area, as it would largely fit. Currently this entry, if placed diagonally across a 16x16 square overlaps a bit too much - a reduction by a little bit would make the staff feel more at ease with the category placement. Of course, you're welcome to big-up this entry, and enter it in the large category e.g. a shark-boat race (or octopus-boat vs shark-boat vs crocodile-boat race...)
  23. Somewhere between Bavaria and Russia, it is so cold that normal yellow figs are frozen into fleshies! And for KimT's sake, there's some massive pics here
  24. What Zuloo said. Duh As this game ended a long time ago, this seems better closed.
  25. Nannan Zhang is selling MOCs from many well-reputed builders, purely as a charitable enterprise! Bricklink Store Discussion in forum
