"Glad to see the one without a screw loose is leading the gang. Mostly because the upper class that lived here, the ones loyal to Faust, left as soon as he dropped in. The ones here... We're not exactly loyalitsts, but we don't suppport Vorpalis either. We're just a town of scared people, and I don't think Vorpalis really wants to touch us. He seems more intent on wiping away Faust and his followers then really harming "innocents." Just... Just, please, try to move here as fast as you can. I'm not sure if you've tangled with the dragon yet, but we don't want him here."

During their bickering, the party realizes that the fog here was visibly clearer than other areas of Moone... Why? "Good to see some people are holding onto their wits too, unlike some of your travelling companions... Nevertheless, you're welcome in Yukumo. I'm Lucy. You? Hate to tell you, but Yukumo never had many shops to begin with. We're a tourist town, and our claim to fame? Our hot springs. Because of that, most of it is dedicated to catering to visitors, while the citizens here usually go to Mermont or Algon for shopping. And... There's nothing really left of Algon anymore." Eyes downcast, Lucy pauses and continues. "So yeah. We have a pantry, but due to the food shortages now that Vorpalis conquered Mermont, and all of the people pouring in from Algon, we're only rationing out food to citizens of Yukumo or Algon. Sorry. We have a bunch of new vending machines some scientist guy installed just recently for tourists - he's there at the Hot Springs, tinkering with something. Want me to walk you there?"

Heroica RPG- Quest #137: Where the Dead Go to Live
Endgame replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
I stand behind Throlar and glance at the animal tucked beneath the store. -
I love how polarized the party ended up on Charon.
-
"I measure how formidable someone is based on how lethal they are. I am virtually never outright afraid of someone, because besides my... condition, I can think of a way to kill virtually anyone. Not Charon. I suspect he could've killed us before we could've done much of anything." Sandman shakes his head and looks away from the poor woman as Lind speaks. "I thought we already established communication was not your forte back in the garden." Meanwhile, the woman raises an eyebrow, looking confused. "Are you on drugs?"
-
"Already used Urshanabi." Charon looks to Warlen. "On the bright side, very few get two chances at the Vorpal Conqueror. And speaking of which..." Charon stops in his tracks, lifts his cane, and uses it to tear open a portal. "Out you go. Pleasure talking to you." The party steps through the ring of light. Eschaton flickers away, and the smoggy Moone returns... "Warlen as correct. Charon was... I think terrifying was the right word. I think." The party finds themselves transported from the serene gardens of Charon's realm to the slightly dilapidated gate to Yukumo. "...Care to explain why you guys just poofed in from thin air?" "Someone else besides me should, I imagine."

"Southern Ennon - Nathuz and Draida bay, right? Nice place. I ask, if only to prove my point that we have a global operation. Used to be a village of magicians there, studied in Earth magic. Used magical golems to protect the village. Smart. Thought it would've been a good idea to try and animate the smalles mountain of the Nathuz range as a golem. Not smart. Containing them was an... effort, but at least no blood was shed. Damn idiots would've sent a huge rock slide hurtling towards Draida otherwise. You're sharp, Skrall - I was waiting for one of you to catch onto the name thing. As soon as someone nails down my name in a text, I change it. Been using Charon for a solid twelve centuries now, but its beginning to outlive its use, I think..." "Right now about a single minute has passed in Moone. We're almost at our stop..." QM Note: I'm about to fall asleep on the keyboard, so I'll have to get you to Yukumo tomorrow. Hope you enjoyed this 3 page bonanza in eschaton.

Heroica RPG- Quest #137: Where the Dead Go to Live
Endgame replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Makes me wonder if it was just the bandages covering her ears..." -
"The flowers have the benficial properties of looking and smelling nice." Charon chooses to let Jinnipher and Lind "discuss" things in their own way, turning to Warlen. Charon chuckles. I was not a malicious one it sounded like a laugh a mentor may give, before educating their student. "I can't blame you. Gods exist in some shape or form. I served one. Does yours exist, though? That's the beauty of faith, Warlen. It's for you to choose. For as much as people preach about "following their faith", they're the ones who choose what to believe, aren't they? Of course gods ang angels plain to me. I've walked amongst some very high profile individuals, I suppose you could say. Are there powers above me? Of course. I'm second in command here, after all. Are there powers greater than the boss? I can think of three of them that walk Olegaia, plus, y'know the Gods. Is there something above them? Who knows! That's the joy of faith. Asking questions, and molding your beliefs to them depending on the answer. Me, I have all of my questions answered. I can tell you don't. But there's still more than enough time left to pursue the answers you seek. Does that help you out at all?" "I see your Munchkin friend has many answers, Warlen. But time will tell if they're correct. Maybe they are! But maybe they aren't."
-
Not all knowing. He's lived a long while, and can tell when someone lies, but his knowledge is pretty limited to the usual sources besides that.
-
It's more intriguing this way, honestly.
-
"Because the fact that you didn't grow up in a barren, mountainous wasteland... You can thank us." "Are you meaning to say that you're the one from the "Ennoc's Sword" story?" "I had a cameo, yes... It was myself and the boss that made this place livable. Mostly the latter. There was no godly sword, but we were able to terraform this place well enough. If the worshipers of Ennoc want to take credit, then why not?"

Eschaton was rather beuatiful. Karie's ponytail swayed in the pleasant breeze as she looked around. The sky was as clear as crystal, the stars sparkling a brilliant white. Lush, green - more of a teal, really - grass sways in the breeze, along with fields and fields of white flowers. Through the large stone obelisks, Karie peeks out and sees the land dipping down into a caldera of sorts, with stone pillars much like the ones lining this path - except several magnitudes bigger - surrounding it.

Mostly because today is a not-busy today, so I can reply as the posts crop up instead of in chunks. Allows for some pretty good conversations. Totally not setting things up for my next and final quest, nope.. (Building the rest of Eschaton is gonna be a bitch...)
-
I'm guessing that you do't want them in LDD, otherwise I'd be happy to chip in.
-
"I'm a spirit of another realm. You got that right. But the boss isn't. He was born in, raised in, had children in your world, and wants to see it prosper. He has every right to influence it, then, doesn't he? Plans for annihilating him, hm. I hear stabbing helps. Sau, you're a Moon Elf. You grew up in Moone, didn't you? You didnt live on nay sort of mountain, right?"
-
"No one here is claiming to be a god, and no one here is taking away your destiny or your free will. You're trying to do in Moone what we've done for a while now: change history." "I was referring more to our philosophy then understanding our plan. Our plan is to save lives more than we kill. Easy-peasy. A child could understand it. But understand wasn't the right word. I think "accept" would make more sense there, really. Tell me, Skrall, where are you from?"
-
"Sometimes, tragedies must occur for the rest of the world to prosper. Believe it or not, The Regret would've been the least evil being to try and consume the Lifespark, if the visions the boss has had are to be believed. It was best to allow his plan to follow through and be cut short at the decesive battle, then to swoop in and leave the Lifespark for an even worse person. Because at least with The Regret, he would've eventually ended your suffering. Actions have consequences, beyond what you or I can really understand. And sometimes, we will let a thousand people die - or perhaps even destory a thousand - to save two thousnd people in the near future. It is a philosophy that is beyond the scope of human reasons. I do not expect you or want you to understand. From your perspective, it is absurd. But it's what is best."
-
"Why didn't we? Because you did." Charon shrugs. " We weren't neccasary then. My Master can see the future via visions, you know. And he saw The Regret would lose. Simple as that. We're not here to micromanage, or stick our nose into the case of every megalomaniacal freak with a messiah complex. We're here to prevent you from cocking everything up so badly, you, say, sink half a continent." Charon says his last few words with a definite edge. "That happened when we chose to give you the benefit of the doubt. Never again will that happen as long as we live."
-
"That silver clad mockery of a mollusk who claimed he was "immeasurably old", despite being a percent of my age?"
-
"Bit of both, really. There's a few other factors in play too, but those are thigs you'll likely never learn."
-
"Who said we wanted to be known? Not much further now. I'm fairly certain if you disembarked here, you'd end up in the ocean, so lets not..."
-
"Because our operation was the one who crowned the very first Emperor of Dastan. That is the scale on which we influence history. All for the greater good, of course - all of our work is for humanity's benefit. Perhaps you've even heard or read of another act we're responsible for. We've been cropping up in history, guiding the flow of events, since the dawn of time. Not once have our acts been attirubted to our actual names - they've gotten damn close to mine, but the boss? You'll never find him in any history book, ancient text, or Dodekube - despite the fact that he should be in all of them."
-
"Oh, here, in Eschaton? I'm plenty welcome. If the heaven I presided over was half this nice, I would have never made my meteoric exit even if they put me on janitorial duty. No, here, I'm second in command. The work we do is... interesting, to say the least. You could say we're arbiters, or judges, of sorts. Ever heard of a place called Dastan?"
-
"Though the parting with my former god was amicable, and there's only one way for an angel to go down after his dismissal. Namely, down, at an incredibly fast rate... It's all fun and games until you re-enter the atmosphere."
