Heroica RPG - Quest #99: Six Thousand Feet Under

QM Note: Then I'll get the library update up quick, so Claire can turn back into Erdathcath! Loot disbirution will be editted onto this post. With the loot distributed, the party decides to return to the room with the locked door, and find it open. The mural on the wall flinches as the light enters its "eye", its twisting causing the door to churn open. The party ascends the spiral staircase stored inside, escaping from the hellish basement. They force open the locked door from the other side... ...And find themselves in the foyer they were in orginally. They approach the locked door, and key in the password: F O R E V E R M O R E With the password keyed in, the door springs in. Gears grind and hiss, and the door opens, revealing the library... Books are piled up as high as the eye can see, surrounding the spherical room. There was only two breaks in the cascade of literaturer: A table, holding a journal entry and some sort of glowing mushroom... And a door to the north. The Bookmark pipes up again. "The green tendrils on that mushroom, the Sporecelius Mycelium - that's the antidote! Just get them to swallow it, and they'll be back to normal in no time." -
"Glad that is over with... Now, the Faculty Office and whatever room that insipid door is guarding are the only rooms left, correct?"

It just seems like artificial difficulty, in my mind. I'd prefer 3,000 HP and only some immunities to 2,000 and immune to everything.
-
Wouldn't relying on the party's strength include the items and weapons they have obtained? Using "immune to all negative effects" rarely increases the challenge, it just makes them a lot less approachable. It simplifies what may have otherwise been a good fight with a few tweaks to severals rolls of the die for a week or two. It removes a significant amount of strategy, and can just make battles long slogs. Also, now that poison stacks, it can actual deal a fair bit of damage, while not being crippling. Had we been allowed to use poison on Aureole, it would've made the fight so much less stressful.

"...I... want to escape this. I don't want to live like this... Please, whatever you are, cast the spe-" "Not so fast. Unfortunately, the only female personality i know how to immerse so far is Claire's. So, if you don't mind, Lynne, I'm going to wait until Erdathcath gets the antidote." "O-okay... Lets... Move on, I suppose? Head up?" -

"Quite the opposite. I realize it is something of a... breach of contract, so to speak, but I think immersion could actually be used medically here. She is clearly mentally distrubed. It'd be delicate, but I may be able to meld her mind with another character from literature to cure some of the trauma... So, I suppose I am proposing a partial immersion. Big difference is, if we were to leave the druid alone for about a week, she would forgot her old self entirely and permanently. With a partial immersion, Lynne will remember herself, just with some new quirks and less trauma." -

"You... Don't understand... There is still a huge portion of my mind right now, screaming "Get in the chair! Get in there, and wait for your Master!" It keeps telling me to obey, over and over... But I-I'm trying to fight it. If I ever attempt to pledge my allegiance to The Regret again, I want that woman... Claire, right...? To shoot me. I want her to shoot me... And kill me, just like the other Devils, if I regress. ...O-okay?" The Bookmark pipes up. "I may have something of a solution for this..." -

He was not! Only machine in the quest that doesn't, for whatever reason, despite the fact The Giant has more organic speech... You are correct about my fonts, however. How did quoting something cause the font to change?
-
It really is frustrating. The worst way to make a battle is to make a battle where players don't have options. One or two, maybe, all of them, no. And Poison should almost never be an immunity, unless it fits thematically.

QM Note: Something came up - nothing bad, though! I'll autoroll in a bit. -
Like I said: If you have good strategy in my quests, you will be able to get through without eating too many Phoenix Essences. If you wing it, you will die.
-
Your trump card being those silly healing staves? Also, just a fair warning: The boss of 99 is going to have one of the most gory ways to hit a enemy, ever, in Heroica. Also, interesting to note: The devils have less collective HP and SP than the Dauntlets, if I did my maths right.
-
One reason is that many healing classes have healing specials that heal the entire party. if the attackers go first and get beat up, the cleric has the potential to patch them up. You can also set conditional actions, allowing clerics to heal whoever gets wounded. However, in later quests, with introduction of new QMs, battle styles, passive specials, items, classes, etc., battle orders are now a lot more variable.
-
Imagine 99 without you strategizing, Flipz. It's one of my personal beliefs that battles should be able to be trumped without too much damage if strategized for well. That's why you only have suffered one knockout out of 5 battles in 99. Except bosses. My bosses are always a constant game of "Minimize your losses and just try to survive!"
