  1. I push a stone golem (Rock 8) towards my equally undead adversary.
  2. The water pipes, flakes of corrosion and rust being scattered as they spurt out water periodically, only serve to sustain the noxious fungus on the wall. However, the growth itself might have even been sustaining itself on something else, as well, the miasma of plants seeming extraordinarily overgown - especially in such horrid conditions. Vindsval inspects the table, and finds: 1 Potion 1 Tonic 1 Grating Stone (can be used on one weapon to boost its WP value by 1.) He turns to Isaac's horrid scrawl, this one seeming decidedly older than all the others.
  3. "Are your remarks meant to sting? Allow me to enligtehn you about something, little angel. I have killed one of your ilk. How did you not detect that, little angel? Has being tethered to a mortal made you weak? But, then again... Considering I devoured one of your kind, I suppose you're hardly immortal either. So shall I tear off your wings, devour your soul, and sever you from your precious Ennoc forever, little angel? Or will you desert the prideful fool and leave him to die?"
  4. "The only one here who has been a dissapointment here thus far is you, Johon. You have somehow lost the trust of one of your closest friends - to her, you have sunk below the man who was once her most mortal enemy. I'm surprised you survived your little jaunt forward in time, Johon. Usually the weak are obliterated. perhpas the price you paid ewas not your life for that trip... But rather, your memories and decency. Leaving me with nothing but a lonely, foolish man whom I must kill out of mercy." 5. The door practically falls to pieces as Vindsval forges onwards, leaving the quiet serenity of the room before to an even worse trash heap than before. Unlike the room prior, this corridor was dripping with water from the ceiling, thick pathces of moss and fungus latching onto all surfaces. Shivering pipes spurt water at random intervals, allowing the sickly plants to multiply. Indeed, the entire room had an aura of disease to it... What will the party do?
  6. I tap my foot as I wait for festivities to commence. "Are we all certain this isn't just some trap to extort our money and kill us?" My time in the Academy had made me paranoid, it seems.
  7. QM Note: Point taken! My fault for screwing up the battle description, so consider the damage undone.
  8. The beast's movements, much like his previous fight, are cold and calculated. His huge, gnarled body moves with scary precision and grace, many heroes only dodging and counterattacking within an inch of recieving one of the beast's devestating attacks. An arrow from Mortimer disorients the villain for a brief time, allowing Boomingham to destroy one of his sabers. He quickly exacts revenge on Masson and Erdathcath for the rest of the party's attacks, before sweeping Mortimer off his feet with a well placed jab of his saber. With the first skirmish over, The Regret leaps back, laughing. His horrid fangs are twisted into the distinct shape of a smile. "Not bad, not bad at all... I expected no less from the finest of vermin. So, whose turn is it next? I do believe it's... Mine!" The Regret's Turn: >The Regret VS Karie: Tailitzer Shot (A Tailitzer shot is launched!) >The Regret VS Jeaux: Deep Fears (Jeaux becomes Fragile and Doomed) >The Regret VS Masson: Indoctrination (Masson becomes Hexed and Doomed) The Regret suddenly unleashes a barrage of attacks and spells of his own! "AHAHAHA! Surprised?" Masson's mind is too thoroughly ensnared to be surprised, regressing to his prior brainwashing. His voice drones on as he shambles across the wasteland with a zombie-like gait. "I am... The Devil Commander... Obey... Obey The Regret... I am the Devil Commander... Obey... Obey The Regret..." "W-We... We can't afford him doing *cough* that! Masson, he's... L-listen, I *wheeze* notice that *wheeze* his spine started glowing when he did that. M-maybe if we *cough* hit it, we can disrupt him?" The Regret's Turn >At the end of every round, The Regret gets a number of moves equal to how many the heroes allow. >For each move, he randomly selects a hero and an attack. >The Regret cannot target the same target twice in one of his turns. >The party can reduce the number of moves The regret can take by attacking his spine. 11. I'll add your loot from the Monolith battle tomorrow, 105ers. For now, The Regret awaits your challenge/battle order! And trust me, the real fun begins after round one.
  12. The door has been scrubbed clean, pristine white wood staring back at Salt as he inspects the door. Even the frame was perfect and clean, the hinges finely oiled to prevent squeaking. It seems like this entire room was built to please, or comfort, someone. Next to the door is a pile of cleaning supplies: Bottles of chemicals, a bucket filled with water, a pair of latex gloves, adult sized... Plucking some items from the supplies, they find some things that might be of use to them. 50 Gold 2 Potions 2 Tonics What will the party do next?
  13. "Hm. If that is truly how this duel will be decided... Then I already know who the victor shall be." The Regret's tone was cryptic, with no arrogance or sorrow. "But although this is where I want to confront you, my inner sanctum is hardly the place for our grand battle. The Lifespark is here, and within the darkness is several of my agents, not to mention the various materials I've acquired over our many crusades. No... Hardly a place for battle, indeed. I do have a penchant for illusions, however... let me see if I remember that old spell, shall I?" The Regret's hands surge with ether before his sabers vanish for a moment, his gnarled claws digging into seemingly nothing. As his hands pulse with ether, he suddenly tears them away, the darkness around the heroes and the abyss around them fracturing like glass. White lines crisscross the sky and the abyss before they shatter with a burst of light, leaving the heroes in a desolate, snowy wasteland... Alone, with The Regret. Huge walls of ice rise on all sides, with little hope of escape for the heroes. "Excellent. I truly did want to dignify you with a duel in front of the Lifespark, heroes - for your dying breaths to be of the beautiful inferno as my claws stripped you of your flesh - but I cannot simply allow vermin to scurry around the power of the gods. Do understand, please. But I think now is the perfect time to show you just what kind of power I have locked within my soul. For two years, these Lifespark embers have been trying to break free and obliterate me. Don't you understand? Inside my spirit is the power of the gods, a power that submits to ME! Your demise is certain... You have performed feats I never thought humans could possibly manage, heroes. And for that, I commend you. I've come to develop a grudging sort of respect for you, and yet even more hatred for the sins you have committed in my Citadel. But all of that? it ends here. It ends NOW. En garde, heroes of Heroica!" With that, The Regret regenerates the sabers in his hand, and with a terifying speed and ominous grace, the abomination of light and darkness doing battle with the heroes at long last. "Two *wheeze* years, since The Regret ruined Luosh... One, since he *cough* killed Ayla. We have to stop him, here, and now! he can't be allowed to harm another soul!" "To think, he created all of those Oculoids, and Seerus, and... He's responsible for my sister, heroes. He's why she's not here with me. We all know what we gotta do." "Even if his conquest does fail - Which I'm not sure it will - the thousands of lives outside, tens of thousands of people, are doomed if we lose here. This is one battle we must win!" With stakes above the heroes' comprehension hanging in the balance, it was time for the final battle! PREPARE FOR THE FINAL BATTLE! "I've been waiting for this for a long, long time." 14. Also, 105ers, when I come back him with a Christmas tree, I'll start up the final battle!
  15. Suggestion: Allow them to buy as many cards as they like, but when the time comes, they have to narrow down their pool to only a select few. (E.g. They buy 100, and when purchasing closes, everyone has a period of time to choose which 20 cards to keep and which cards to ditch.)
  16. I very much enjoyed 111, Khorne! Going to Dastan was something I definitely didn't expect, and I think the quest benefitted hugely from it. I think Dastan is an area tied with Eubric in terms of cultue. The place seems just so alive, and I think your builds and characters captured the area very well. The battles were very well balanced, I thought. There wasn't any knock outs, but they all seemed important and relevant, and in gneeral it kept enough of sense of danger to mix with the foreign aspect of the quest. Because, really, that's what this was: Lynne and the others heading out into a world they didn't really understand well. We covered a lot of Dastan in a relatively short amount of time, and for that I applaud you. Pacing took a hit in the later half, but I can't help but feel my sporadic activity was repsonsible. In regards to Lynne: I too like the direction where she's going, but I understand what I'm saying. I'm a bit surprised that someone (such as Polly) didn't come outright ask her what her deal was, considering the whole curious child aspect, but it makes sense considering how qucikyl she got over the whole greenskin thing. I've definitely alluded to what her past has done to her, but I'll try to make a few more references to her actual past now. Thanks for the adivce!
  17. It makes sense that he did. They're not that much better than the Gambler choice. For getting the odds up to an 8 card to 25% instead of 16% warrants a 150 gold increase in price from Gambler to Shark, but not much more.
  18. Well, no, that's one of the reasons I don't want to do it, because I'd be denying someone a class they could actually use. Also, Sandy, when do the bouts begin/how long is the signup period?
  19. I'm referring to this: (DLL was the first to mention it, though.) But you were right inside that Perfect Regret had an even more Perfect form. ALSO: It's really tempting to just 2,000 gold into the decamon tournament, since I don't plan on questing as Sorrow ever again...
  20. Special thanks to Sandy for 105's third and final interlude! It would seem Brickdoctor was correct when he mentioned Immaculately Perfect Regret. (Also, trust me, the contents of that interlude surprised me too. )
  21. "Agreed..." The abomination states simply. He brandishes his shimmering sabers, advancing towards the party with a stance carried only be a murderer... "Have you any last words, heroes? Before I put a swift end to this charade?" ----------------------------------------------- [interlude] Somewhere below Eubric… “Barbie, I need to talk to you. Now that we’re alone.” “What is it, Ulric-dear? Are you finally confessing your undying love for me?” “Not exactly, no. I want to know what you are hiding. I went through all that trouble to destroy the Tower of Babel for you, to keep your secret safe. You owe me the truth.” “Then my secret wouldn’t be safe anymore, would it?” “But how is it even possible for a human to have such power as you do? You can bend the laws of nature to your will, yet you just sit upon your powers.” “Are you flattering me or mocking me, dear? I like to take my time with things. Besides, there are beings that excel me in power. Like that progg in his citadel. If he doesn’t give the Heroicans a run for their money, I don’t know what will.” “What progg? Why are you holding these things from me?” “Because they are none of your concern, dear. The progg upsets the balance of the world, which only works to our benefit. Chaos cannot be controlled, but it can be abused. I learned that a long time ago.” “How long? I don’t even know how old you are, Barbie!” “Don’t you know it is rude to ask a lady of her age, darling? You know I’ve seen entire civilizations rise and fall, continents sink to the bottom of the ocean and lush grasslands swept under a desert. But I have always survived because I’ve known when to bail out.” “So the day I see you gone is the day I know I’ve failed?” “You’re smart, Ulric. That’s why I like you so.” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- QM Note: I'll give everyone until tomorrow to respond, and then I'll hopefully have the time to post the final battle!
  22. QM Note: Massive workload + computer issues = another obnoxiously long delay... Vindsval inspects the potions, and finds each of them to be medicines or cures of some sort. They each have increasingly bizzare names, with many labels on them: "Failed, Potential, and Progress Made." There is only one bottle that has a unique label, however: "Bleach: Volatile. Solution?" The bed's pink sheets, lingering scent of rot and perfume, and floral patterns allude to the fact it was neither the voice of the boy or the doctor that slept in the bed, but rather someone else entirely...
  23. Lynne's look towards Orel begins to turn venomous. "Treason? He's made his own choice, Orel, and he has that right.Faith isn't contractual. It's a thing that may change." The woman crosses her arms. "What's the punishment for treason, exactly?"
  24. "Yeah, I... I'm nervous for what's to come. I still don't understand how we're gonna defeat him, but..." "...Two *wheeze* years, since we had to fight him. This... This won't be easy, but, we gotta try. Ad... Yeah, Boomingham. I don't know what the machine was talking about, but... We need to *cough* be at eachother's backs, especially now. We have a monster to kill." "Well. Not much else to do but confront the final battle head on, is there?" The party ascends the steps revealed by the deserted crowd, the gnawing cold greeting them as they realized they were stepping out onto the Citadel roof one more time. The party stands on a massive observation deck, looking over the carnage of the Lonely Island. They stand on a stone platform rising out of grim looking water. Masson peers over the edge... "The hunters... Some of them are gunning it for the front door. Alatreon succeeded. I just hope that, well, we do." The party crosses the platform and begins to ascend up the stairs, the staircase seemingly endless. Steel spikes rise up alongside the staircase, the remnants of the mountain that was consumed by the Citadel, the heroes reaching its uppermost peak. As they climb the stairs, an oppressive blanket of snow obscuring their vision and the wind threatening to fling them into the abyss, the party hears the voices of the deceased in the wind. Some they had heard that day, others from The Regret's past... All of them, wriggling out of The Regret's ehtereal grasp to impart just a few words of encouragement to the group as they appraoched the very end of their journey. First, the voice of the Daranzas. "You've gotten this far, heroes. Finish the job." "Three milleniums ago, I created a monster... But that is not to say he became evil as an extent of my meddling. Heroes. Right my wrongs. End this three thousand year saga, once and for all." Next, Octus, The Regret's son... "My father was a kind creature, heroes. What's inside that shell? I don't know, anymore. But I trust you will destroy that disgrace to my father's name. I believe in you guys..." Next, the stumbling voice of Royce Cour. "It's... Well, I didn't quite expect... This. No, I didn't... I didn't think that the fates of my son and my family, and well, uh, you, would be... Caught up with that... Thing. Masson. Yes, it is... Me. I wish I could talk longer, but The Regret, he's... Blocking us out... I just... Good luck. Good luck, son, heroes. Good... luck." Masson trembles a bit, looking around frantically as he clutches to Karie, looking both relieved and concerned. "Dad, was that... Really you? Uh, thanks... Dad..." And finally, one unfamiliar voice rings out in the heroes minds - well, unfamiliar to all but Johon and Punii. It speaks, its voice hoarse but its tone resolute. "Heroes. Just a few steps above you is where I was created - as was Prometheus. It is our origin, and where this story began. Heroes... The Regret has locked himself in his own twisted version of the past. He destroys all who try to shatter his own delusion, preferring to torture himself with the false history his pain-stricken mind has made - blocking out all the voices who tell him otherwise. You cannot allow his visions to be realized. The future is in your hands, Heroes of Heroica... and I know that you will use it well. I know you will. You have the trusts and blessings of I, the Mythrogg, heroes. Farewell, and may you return victorious." The party's HP and Ether is fully restored by the words of the last voice as they approach the grand doors to The Regret's inner sanctum. The voices recede and the party find themselves in front of a gargantuan door. Before they can attempt they can open it, it grinds open of its own accord, the entire tower seeming to shake as it opens. Inside was nothing but the purest darkness they had ever witnessed... Tendrils of blackness creep out of the breach, ushering the heroes inside. Reluctantly they enter, their vision being obscured by a horrid miasma. The roar of winter outside ceases as they step into the darkness, being replaced by an eerie silence. They walk across a stone bridge that seems to stretch into infinity, wondering when they would encounter The Regret. The darkness urroudning them seems almost sentient, closing in, until it is repelled by an even stronger force. Waves of power ripple over the heroes, feeling simultaneously freezing and burning. The power rocks them to the core, even the residual heat of the lifespark nearly flooring the heroes. They progress onwards, until they lay eyes on the Lifespark itself... and its weilder. The green inferno roars over the heroes, choked by the shadows surrounding it. The party looks back and sees their flickering shadows, stretched across the huge expense, still feeling the power of the Lifespark assault them. The Regret stands in front of it, silhouetted by the divine inferno. He seems undaunted by the Lifespark - and somehow detects the heroes' entry. "Hello, heroes. End of the line. And what a glorious, final visage it is, isn't it? it's beautiful, the Lifespark. They say the power of the gods is all locked up in that little flame. Embers can be exploited, sure... But the whole flame has been so tantilizingly out of my reach for so long. It's all I need to erase humanity, and make Olegaia a paradise. ...I don't plan on destorying the world, heroes. It's a common misconception, but no. I love this world, or at leasy I did. Once upon a time. Olegaia would be close for perfection, if not for the multiplying disease infesting it. I hardly think I need to name it by now, heroes. It was humanity that made me. made me what I am. The Progg you see before you now is a result of centuries upon centuries of abuse, spiritual shredding, isolation, labor, abandonment... All the work of mankind. And who is to say your species won't one day create a more malevolent monster than I? One that won't settle for the extinction of humans, but will destory all of this world and what it has to offer? What then? Even you heroes have committed sins in this Citadel not even I have. Even you, the finest of humanity, are rotten to the core. A Progg I knew named Aquos was conflicted over being cast as the villain. I have no such reservations, heroes. Humanity must die, and Olegaia must be made a paradise once more. Beofre man creates an even larger apocalypse than I. Can't you understand, heroes? There can be no more Regrets!" The Regret turns to the heroes, his body beginning to morph and ripple. "I cannot roam this planet knowing a plague still infests it, heroes. So I will destroy each and every one of you -even if Must mutilate my body and soul a hundred times more. It's been two years, heroes. Two years since our last battle. But since then... Three embers of the Lifespark have now fused into my soul. I am now not only immortal, but I have power enough to sweep you aside in an instant. You impressed me when you killed the Monolith Mk II, truly. I never thought any human could ever destroy such a machine. But myself? You've walked into a darkness with no way of escape, heroes. You've signed your own death warrant. Even the power of the gods kneels to me here, heroes! Last time, I prolonged the battle... I held back before revealing my power. No. No more of that. What do you say we skip right to the interesting bit...?" The Regret's claws lurch towards his face plate, latching onto the gnarled bars and pulling them open. His carapace factures and cracks, a massive burst of light exploding from his mauled body before a cloud of darkness emerges from The Regret. The black miasma swirls and solidifies, the white carapace of his body turning a sinister black and enveloping the mass of darkness. Light bursts out as his bones and armor locks together, a massive beast emerging from The Regret. In a burst of putrid smoke the Lifespark turns a ghostly white as The Regret's new form takes shape, a behemoth of darkness looming over them, with an aura of pure power surging from his body. Light begins emerging from his gnarled exoskeleton, sharp spines exploding out of his body. Weapons of light manfiest in his hands... His eyes open, completing the transformation, before the party realizes that they're not eyes at all: They're the three embers of the Lifespark The Regret's soul had absorbed, all three embers in clear view. Tiny veins crisscross his body and the darkness inside his fanged maw, the three embers pulsating like hearts. "You've come so far, heroes, and you fought so very well. Never did I think a mere band of humans could scale my Citadel. But your adventure - your lives - end here!"
